Yahweh Has Chosen Zion

A Song of Ascents.

132 Remember, O Yahweh, on David’s behalf,
All (A)his affliction;
How he swore to Yahweh
And vowed to (B)the Mighty One of Jacob,
“Surely I will not come into [a](C)my house,
Nor [b]lie in the [c]comfort of my bed;
I will not (D)give sleep to my eyes
Or slumber to my eyelids,
Until I find a (E)place for Yahweh,
[d]A dwelling place for (F)the Mighty One of Jacob.”

Behold, we heard of it in (G)Ephrathah,
We found it in the (H)fields of [e]Jaar.
Let us come into His [f](I)dwelling place;
Let us (J)worship at the (K)footstool of His feet.
(L)Arise, O Yahweh, to Your (M)resting place,
You and the ark of Your (N)strength.
Let Your priests be (O)clothed with righteousness,
And let Your (P)holy ones sing for joy.

10 For the sake of David Your servant,
Do not turn away the face of Your (Q)anointed.
11 Yahweh has (R)sworn to David
A truth from which He will not turn back:
(S)Of the fruit of your [g]body I will set upon your throne.
12 If your sons keep My covenant
And My testimony which I will teach them,
Their sons also shall (T)sit upon your throne forever.”

13 For Yahweh has (U)chosen Zion;
He has (V)desired it for His habitation.
14 “This is My (W)resting place forever;
Here I will (X)inhabit, for I have desired it.
15 I will abundantly (Y)bless her provision;
I will (Z)satisfy her needy with bread.
16 Her (AA)priests also I will clothe with salvation,
And her (AB)holy ones will sing loudly for joy.
17 There I will cause the (AC)horn of David to spring up;
I have prepared a (AD)lamp for Mine anointed.
18 His enemies I will (AE)clothe with shame,
But upon him, his (AF)crown shall blossom.”

Remember David and His Son

Heading
A song of the ascents.

David’s Oath

Remember for David’s sake, O Lord, all his afflictions.
Remember how he swore to the Lord.
He made a vow to the Mighty One of Jacob:
“I will not enter my own house.[a]
I will not get into my own bed.[b]
I will not allow my eyes to sleep
or my eyelids to slumber,
until I find a place for the Lord,
a dwelling for the Mighty One of Jacob.”

Israel’s Response

Yes, we heard about it in Ephrathah.
We found it in the fields of Ja’ar.
Let us go to his dwelling place.
Let us bow down at his footstool.
Arise, O Lord, come to your resting place,
    you and the ark of your strength.
May your priests be clothed with righteousness.
May your favored ones shout for joy.
10 For the sake of David your servant,
do not reject the face of your Anointed One.[c]

The Lord’s Oath

11 The Lord swore to David
    a truth from which he will not turn back:
“From the fruit of your body
    I will place kings on your throne.
12 If your sons keep my covenant
and my testimonies that I teach them,
then their sons will sit on your throne forever.”
13 For the Lord has chosen Zion.
He has desired it for his dwelling.
14 “This is my resting place forever.
Here I will live, for I have desired it.
15 I will bless her greatly with food.
I will satisfy Zion’s poor with bread.
16 I will clothe her priests with salvation,
and her favored ones will shout for joy.
17 There I will make a horn shoot up for David.
I will set up a lamp for my Anointed One.
18 I will clothe his enemies with shame,
but on him his crown will be beautiful.”
