²⁹ “Fellow Israelites,^(C) I can tell you confidently that the patriarch^(D) David died and was buried,^(E) and his tomb is here^(F) to this day. ³⁰ But he was a prophet and knew that God had promised him on oath that he would place one of his descendants on his throne.^{(G) 31} Seeing what was to come, he spoke of the resurrection of the Messiah, that he was not abandoned to the realm of the dead, nor did his body see decay.^(H)

³⁵ So it is also stated elsewhere:

³⁶ “Now when David had served God’s purpose in his own generation, he fell asleep;^(B) he was buried with his ancestors^(C) and his body decayed. ³⁷ But the one whom God raised from the dead^(D) did not see decay.

³⁸ “Therefore, my friends, I want you to know that through Jesus the forgiveness of sins is proclaimed to you.^(E)

¹⁸ I am the Living One; I was dead,^(A) and now look, I am alive for ever and ever!^(B) And I hold the keys of death and Hades.^(C)

¹³ The sea gave up the dead that were in it, and death and Hades^(A) gave up the dead^(B) that were in them, and each person was judged according to what they had done.^(C)

²³ In Hades, where he was in torment, he looked up and saw Abraham far away, with Lazarus by his side.

³⁵ The angel answered, “The Holy Spirit will come on you,^(A) and the power of the Most High^(B) will overshadow you. So the holy one^(C) to be born will be called^[a] the Son of God.^(D)
