²⁸ Therefore, since we are receiving a kingdom that cannot be shaken,^(A) let us be thankful, and so worship God acceptably with reverence and awe,^{(B) 29} for our “God is a consuming fire.”^[a](C)

²¹ The sight was so terrifying that Moses said, “I am trembling with fear.”^[a](A)

Do Everything Without Grumbling

¹² Therefore, my dear friends, as you have always obeyed—not only in my presence, but now much more in my absence—continue to work out your salvation with fear and trembling,^(A)

⁸ So I was left alone,^(A) gazing at this great vision; I had no strength left,^(B) my face turned deathly pale^(C) and I was helpless.^{(D) 9} Then I heard him speaking, and as I listened to him, I fell into a deep sleep, my face to the ground.^(E)

¹⁰ A hand touched me^(F) and set me trembling on my hands and knees.^{(G) 11} He said, “Daniel, you who are highly esteemed,^(H) consider carefully the words I am about to speak to you, and stand up,^(I) for I have now been sent to you.” And when he said this to me, I stood up trembling.

²⁷ Because your heart was responsive^(A) and you humbled^(B) yourself before God when you heard what he spoke against this place and its people, and because you humbled yourself before me and tore your robes and wept in my presence, I have heard you, declares the Lord.
