Timothy and Epaphroditus

¹⁹ I hope in the Lord Jesus to send Timothy^(A) to you soon,^(B) that I also may be cheered when I receive news about you.

¹⁷ For this reason I have sent to you^(A) Timothy,^(B) my son^(C) whom I love, who is faithful in the Lord. He will remind you of my way of life in Christ Jesus, which agrees with what I teach everywhere in every church.^(D)

Timothy’s Encouraging Report

⁶ But Timothy^(A) has just now come to us from you^(B) and has brought good news about your faith and love.^(C) He has told us that you always have pleasant memories of us and that you long to see us, just as we also long to see you.^{(D) 7} Therefore, brothers and sisters, in all our distress and persecution we were encouraged about you because of your faith. ⁸ For now we really live, since you are standing firm^(E) in the Lord.

² We sent Timothy,^(A) who is our brother and co-worker^(B) in God’s service in spreading the gospel of Christ,^(C) to strengthen and encourage you in your faith,

⁸ I am sending him to you for the express purpose that you may know about our^[a] circumstances and that he may encourage your hearts.^{(A) 9} He is coming with Onesimus,^(B) our faithful and dear brother, who is one of you.^(C) They will tell you everything that is happening here.

To all God’s holy people^(B) in Christ Jesus at Philippi,^(C) together with the overseers^(D) and deacons^[a]:^(E)

⁵ because I hear about your love for all his holy people^(A) and your faith in the Lord Jesus.^{(B) 6} I pray that your partnership with us in the faith may be effective in deepening your understanding of every good thing we share for the sake of Christ. ⁷ Your love has given me great joy and encouragement,^(C) because you, brother, have refreshed^(D) the hearts of the Lord’s people.

²⁸ Therefore I am all the more eager to send him,^(A) so that when you see him again you may be glad and I may have less anxiety.

³ It gave me great joy when some believers^(A) came and testified about your faithfulness to the truth, telling how you continue to walk in it.^{(B) 4} I have no greater joy than to hear that my children^(C) are walking in the truth.^(D)
