20 Then Moses said to them, “If you will do this—if you will arm yourselves before the Lord for battle(A) 21 and if all of you who are armed cross over the Jordan before the Lord until he has driven his enemies out before him(B) 22 then when the land is subdued before the Lord, you may return(C) and be free from your obligation to the Lord and to Israel. And this land will be your possession(D) before the Lord.(E)

23 “But if you fail to do this, you will be sinning against the Lord; and you may be sure that your sin will find you out.(F) 24 Build cities for your women and children, and pens for your flocks,(G) but do what you have promised.(H)

25 The Gadites and Reubenites said to Moses, “We your servants will do as our lord commands.(I) 26 Our children and wives, our flocks and herds will remain here in the cities of Gilead.(J) 27 But your servants, every man who is armed for battle, will cross over to fight(K) before the Lord, just as our lord says.”

28 Then Moses gave orders about them(L) to Eleazar the priest and Joshua son of Nun(M) and to the family heads of the Israelite tribes.(N) 29 He said to them, “If the Gadites and Reubenites, every man armed for battle, cross over the Jordan with you before the Lord, then when the land is subdued before you,(O) you must give them the land of Gilead as their possession.(P) 30 But if they do not cross over(Q) with you armed, they must accept their possession with you in Canaan.(R)

31 The Gadites and Reubenites answered, “Your servants will do what the Lord has said.(S) 32 We will cross over before the Lord into Canaan armed,(T) but the property we inherit will be on this side of the Jordan.(U)

33 Then Moses gave to the Gadites,(V) the Reubenites and the half-tribe of Manasseh(W) son of Joseph the kingdom of Sihon king of the Amorites(X) and the kingdom of Og king of Bashan(Y)—the whole land with its cities and the territory around them.(Z)

34 The Gadites built up Dibon, Ataroth, Aroer,(AA) 35 Atroth Shophan, Jazer,(AB) Jogbehah,(AC) 36 Beth Nimrah(AD) and Beth Haran as fortified cities, and built pens for their flocks.(AE) 37 And the Reubenites rebuilt Heshbon,(AF) Elealeh(AG) and Kiriathaim,(AH) 38 as well as Nebo(AI) and Baal Meon (these names were changed) and Sibmah.(AJ) They gave names to the cities they rebuilt.

39 The descendants of Makir(AK) son of Manasseh went to Gilead,(AL) captured it and drove out the Amorites(AM) who were there. 40 So Moses gave Gilead to the Makirites,(AN) the descendants of Manasseh, and they settled there. 41 Jair,(AO) a descendant of Manasseh, captured their settlements and called them Havvoth Jair.[a](AP) 42 And Nobah captured Kenath(AQ) and its surrounding settlements and called it Nobah(AR) after himself.(AS)

Stages in Israel’s Journey

48 They left the mountains of Abarim(CM) and camped on the plains of Moab(CN) by the Jordan(CO) across from Jericho.(CP) 49 There on the plains of Moab they camped along the Jordan from Beth Jeshimoth(CQ) to Abel Shittim.(CR)

50 On the plains of Moab by the Jordan across from Jericho(CS) the Lord said to Moses, 51 “Speak to the Israelites and say to them: ‘When you cross the Jordan into Canaan,(CT) 52 drive out all the inhabitants of the land before you. Destroy all their carved images and their cast idols, and demolish all their high places.(CU) 53 Take possession of the land and settle in it, for I have given you the land to possess.(CV) 54 Distribute the land by lot,(CW) according to your clans.(CX) To a larger group give a larger inheritance, and to a smaller group a smaller one.(CY) Whatever falls to them by lot will be theirs. Distribute it according to your ancestral tribes.(CZ)

55 “‘But if you do not drive out the inhabitants of the land, those you allow to remain will become barbs in your eyes and thorns(DA) in your sides. They will give you trouble in the land where you will live. 56 And then I will do to you what I plan to do to them.(DB)’”

Boundaries of Canaan

34 The Lord said to Moses, “Command the Israelites and say to them: ‘When you enter Canaan,(DC) the land that will be allotted to you as an inheritance(DD) is to have these boundaries:(DE)

“‘Your southern side will include some of the Desert of Zin(DF) along the border of Edom. Your southern boundary will start in the east from the southern end of the Dead Sea,(DG) cross south of Scorpion Pass,(DH) continue on to Zin and go south of Kadesh Barnea.(DI) Then it will go to Hazar Addar and over to Azmon,(DJ) where it will turn, join the Wadi of Egypt(DK) and end at the Mediterranean Sea.

“‘Your western boundary will be the coast of the Mediterranean Sea.(DL) This will be your boundary on the west.(DM)

“‘For your northern boundary,(DN) run a line from the Mediterranean Sea to Mount Hor(DO) and from Mount Hor to Lebo Hamath.(DP) Then the boundary will go to Zedad, continue to Ziphron and end at Hazar Enan. This will be your boundary on the north.

10 “‘For your eastern boundary,(DQ) run a line from Hazar Enan to Shepham. 11 The boundary will go down from Shepham to Riblah(DR) on the east side of Ain(DS) and continue along the slopes east of the Sea of Galilee.[d](DT) 12 Then the boundary will go down along the Jordan and end at the Dead Sea.

“‘This will be your land, with its boundaries on every side.’”

13 Moses commanded the Israelites: “Assign this land by lot(DU) as an inheritance.(DV) The Lord has ordered that it be given to the nine and a half tribes, 14 because the families of the tribe of Reuben, the tribe of Gad and the half-tribe of Manasseh have received their inheritance.(DW) 15 These two and a half tribes have received their inheritance east of the Jordan across from Jericho, toward the sunrise.”

16 The Lord said to Moses, 17 “These are the names of the men who are to assign the land for you as an inheritance: Eleazar the priest and Joshua(DX) son of Nun. 18 And appoint one leader from each tribe to help(DY) assign the land.(DZ) 19 These are their names:(EA)

Caleb(EB) son of Jephunneh,

from the tribe of Judah;(EC)

20 Shemuel son of Ammihud,

from the tribe of Simeon;(ED)

21 Elidad son of Kislon,

from the tribe of Benjamin;(EE)

22 Bukki son of Jogli,

the leader from the tribe of Dan;

23 Hanniel son of Ephod,

the leader from the tribe of Manasseh(EF) son of Joseph;

24 Kemuel son of Shiphtan,

the leader from the tribe of Ephraim(EG) son of Joseph;

25 Elizaphan son of Parnak,

the leader from the tribe of Zebulun;(EH)

26 Paltiel son of Azzan,

the leader from the tribe of Issachar;

27 Ahihud son of Shelomi,

the leader from the tribe of Asher;(EI)

28 Pedahel son of Ammihud,

the leader from the tribe of Naphtali.”

29 These are the men the Lord commanded to assign the inheritance to the Israelites in the land of Canaan.(EJ)

Towns for the Levites

35 On the plains of Moab by the Jordan across from Jericho,(EK) the Lord said to Moses, “Command the Israelites to give the Levites towns to live in(EL) from the inheritance the Israelites will possess. And give them pasturelands(EM) around the towns. Then they will have towns to live in and pasturelands for the cattle they own and all their other animals.(EN)

“The pasturelands around the towns that you give the Levites will extend a thousand cubits[e] from the town wall. Outside the town, measure two thousand cubits[f](EO) on the east side, two thousand on the south side, two thousand on the west and two thousand on the north, with the town in the center. They will have this area as pastureland for the towns.(EP)

Cities of Refuge(EQ)

“Six of the towns you give the Levites will be cities of refuge, to which a person who has killed someone may flee.(ER) In addition, give them forty-two other towns. In all you must give the Levites forty-eight towns, together with their pasturelands. The towns you give the Levites from the land the Israelites possess are to be given in proportion to the inheritance of each tribe: Take many towns from a tribe that has many, but few from one that has few.”(ES)

Then the Lord said to Moses: 10 “Speak to the Israelites and say to them: ‘When you cross the Jordan into Canaan,(ET) 11 select some towns to be your cities of refuge, to which a person who has killed someone(EU) accidentally(EV) may flee. 12 They will be places of refuge from the avenger,(EW) so that anyone accused of murder(EX) may not die before they stand trial before the assembly.(EY) 13 These six towns you give will be your cities of refuge.(EZ) 14 Give three on this side of the Jordan and three in Canaan as cities of refuge. 15 These six towns will be a place of refuge for Israelites and for foreigners residing among them, so that anyone who has killed another accidentally can flee there.

16 “‘If anyone strikes someone a fatal blow with an iron object, that person is a murderer; the murderer is to be put to death.(FA) 17 Or if anyone is holding a stone and strikes someone a fatal blow with it, that person is a murderer; the murderer is to be put to death. 18 Or if anyone is holding a wooden object and strikes someone a fatal blow with it, that person is a murderer; the murderer is to be put to death. 19 The avenger of blood(FB) shall put the murderer to death; when the avenger comes upon the murderer, the avenger shall put the murderer to death.(FC) 20 If anyone with malice aforethought shoves another or throws something at them intentionally(FD) so that they die 21 or if out of enmity one person hits another with their fist so that the other dies, that person is to be put to death;(FE) that person is a murderer. The avenger of blood(FF) shall put the murderer to death when they meet.

22 “‘But if without enmity someone suddenly pushes another or throws something at them unintentionally(FG) 23 or, without seeing them, drops on them a stone heavy enough to kill them, and they die, then since that other person was not an enemy and no harm was intended, 24 the assembly(FH) must judge between the accused and the avenger of blood according to these regulations. 25 The assembly must protect the one accused of murder from the avenger of blood and send the accused back to the city of refuge to which they fled. The accused must stay there until the death of the high priest,(FI) who was anointed(FJ) with the holy oil.(FK)

26 “‘But if the accused ever goes outside the limits of the city of refuge to which they fled 27 and the avenger of blood finds them outside the city, the avenger of blood may kill the accused without being guilty of murder. 28 The accused must stay in the city of refuge until the death of the high priest; only after the death of the high priest may they return to their own property.

29 “‘This is to have the force of law(FL) for you throughout the generations to come,(FM) wherever you live.(FN)

30 “‘Anyone who kills a person is to be put to death as a murderer only on the testimony of witnesses. But no one is to be put to death on the testimony of only one witness.(FO)

31 “‘Do not accept a ransom(FP) for the life of a murderer, who deserves to die. They are to be put to death.

32 “‘Do not accept a ransom for anyone who has fled to a city of refuge and so allow them to go back and live on their own land before the death of the high priest.

33 “‘Do not pollute the land where you are. Bloodshed pollutes the land,(FQ) and atonement cannot be made for the land on which blood has been shed, except by the blood of the one who shed it. 34 Do not defile the land(FR) where you live and where I dwell,(FS) for I, the Lord, dwell among the Israelites.’”

Inheritance of Zelophehad’s Daughters(FT)

36 The family heads of the clan of Gilead(FU) son of Makir,(FV) the son of Manasseh, who were from the clans of the descendants of Joseph,(FW) came and spoke before Moses and the leaders,(FX) the heads of the Israelite families. They said, “When the Lord commanded my lord to give the land as an inheritance to the Israelites by lot,(FY) he ordered you to give the inheritance of our brother Zelophehad(FZ) to his daughters. Now suppose they marry men from other Israelite tribes; then their inheritance will be taken from our ancestral inheritance and added to that of the tribe they marry into. And so part of the inheritance allotted to us will be taken away. When the Year of Jubilee(GA) for the Israelites comes, their inheritance will be added to that of the tribe into which they marry, and their property will be taken from the tribal inheritance of our ancestors.”

Then at the Lord’s command Moses gave this order to the Israelites: “What the tribe of the descendants of Joseph is saying is right. This is what the Lord commands for Zelophehad’s daughters: They may marry anyone they please as long as they marry within their father’s tribal clan. No inheritance(GB) in Israel is to pass from one tribe to another, for every Israelite shall keep the tribal inheritance of their ancestors. Every daughter who inherits land in any Israelite tribe must marry someone in her father’s tribal clan,(GC) so that every Israelite will possess the inheritance of their ancestors. No inheritance may pass from one tribe to another, for each Israelite tribe is to keep the land it inherits.”

10 So Zelophehad’s daughters did as the Lord commanded Moses. 11 Zelophehad’s daughters—Mahlah, Tirzah, Hoglah, Milkah and Noah(GD)—married their cousins on their father’s side. 12 They married within the clans of the descendants of Manasseh son of Joseph, and their inheritance remained in their father’s tribe and clan.(GE)

13 These are the commands and regulations the Lord gave through Moses(GF) to the Israelites on the plains of Moab by the Jordan across from Jericho.(GG)

The Command to Leave Horeb

These are the words Moses spoke to all Israel in the wilderness east of the Jordan(GH)—that is, in the Arabah(GI)—opposite Suph, between Paran(GJ) and Tophel, Laban, Hazeroth and Dizahab. (It takes eleven days to go from Horeb(GK) to Kadesh Barnea(GL) by the Mount Seir(GM) road.)(GN)

In the fortieth year,(GO) on the first day of the eleventh month,(GP) Moses proclaimed(GQ) to the Israelites all that the Lord had commanded him concerning them. This was after he had defeated Sihon(GR) king of the Amorites,(GS) who reigned in Heshbon,(GT) and at Edrei had defeated Og(GU) king of Bashan, who reigned in Ashtaroth.(GV)

East of the Jordan in the territory of Moab,(GW) Moses began to expound this law, saying:

The Lord our God said to us(GX) at Horeb,(GY) “You have stayed long enough(GZ) at this mountain. Break camp and advance into the hill country of the Amorites;(HA) go to all the neighboring peoples in the Arabah,(HB) in the mountains, in the western foothills, in the Negev(HC) and along the coast, to the land of the Canaanites(HD) and to Lebanon,(HE) as far as the great river, the Euphrates.(HF) See, I have given you this land(HG).(HH) Go in and take possession of the land the Lord swore(HI) he would give to your fathers—to Abraham, Isaac and Jacob—and to their descendants after them.”

The Appointment of Leaders

At that time I said to you, “You are too heavy a burden(HJ) for me to carry alone.(HK) 10 The Lord your God has increased(HL) your numbers(HM) so that today you are as numerous(HN) as the stars in the sky.(HO) 11 May the Lord, the God of your ancestors, increase(HP) you a thousand times and bless you as he has promised!(HQ) 12 But how can I bear your problems and your burdens and your disputes all by myself?(HR) 13 Choose some wise, understanding and respected men(HS) from each of your tribes, and I will set them over you.”

14 You answered me, “What you propose to do is good.”

15 So I took(HT) the leading men of your tribes,(HU) wise and respected men,(HV) and appointed them to have authority over you—as commanders(HW) of thousands, of hundreds, of fifties and of tens and as tribal officials.(HX) 16 And I charged your judges at that time, “Hear the disputes between your people and judge(HY) fairly,(HZ) whether the case is between two Israelites or between an Israelite and a foreigner residing among you.(IA) 17 Do not show partiality(IB) in judging; hear both small and great alike. Do not be afraid of anyone,(IC) for judgment belongs to God. Bring me any case too hard for you, and I will hear it.”(ID) 18 And at that time I told you everything you were to do.(IE)

Spies Sent Out

19 Then, as the Lord our God commanded us, we set out from Horeb and went toward the hill country of the Amorites(IF) through all that vast and dreadful wilderness(IG) that you have seen, and so we reached Kadesh Barnea.(IH) 20 Then I said to you, “You have reached the hill country of the Amorites, which the Lord our God is giving us. 21 See, the Lord your God has given you the land. Go up and take possession(II) of it as the Lord, the God of your ancestors, told you. Do not be afraid;(IJ) do not be discouraged.”(IK)

22 Then all of you came to me and said, “Let us send men ahead to spy(IL) out the land(IM) for us and bring back a report about the route we are to take and the towns we will come to.”

23 The idea seemed good to me; so I selected(IN) twelve of you, one man from each tribe. 24 They left and went up into the hill country, and came to the Valley of Eshkol(IO) and explored it. 25 Taking with them some of the fruit of the land, they brought it down to us and reported,(IP) “It is a good land(IQ) that the Lord our God is giving us.”(IR)

Rebellion Against the Lord

26 But you were unwilling to go up;(IS) you rebelled(IT) against the command of the Lord your God. 27 You grumbled(IU) in your tents and said, “The Lord hates us; so he brought us out of Egypt to deliver us into the hands of the Amorites to destroy us. 28 Where can we go? Our brothers have made our hearts melt in fear. They say, ‘The people are stronger and taller(IV) than we are; the cities are large, with walls up to the sky. We even saw the Anakites(IW) there.’”

29 Then I said to you, “Do not be terrified; do not be afraid(IX) of them.(IY) 30 The Lord your God, who is going before you, will fight(IZ) for you, as he did for you in Egypt, before your very eyes, 31 and in the wilderness. There you saw how the Lord your God carried(JA) you, as a father carries his son, all the way you went until you reached this place.”(JB)

32 In spite of this,(JC) you did not trust(JD) in the Lord your God, 33 who went ahead of you on your journey, in fire by night and in a cloud by day,(JE) to search(JF) out places for you to camp and to show you the way you should go.

34 When the Lord heard(JG) what you said, he was angry(JH) and solemnly swore:(JI) 35 “No one from this evil generation shall see the good land(JJ) I swore to give your ancestors, 36 except Caleb(JK) son of Jephunneh. He will see it, and I will give him and his descendants the land he set his feet on, because he followed the Lord wholeheartedly.(JL)

37 Because of you the Lord became angry(JM) with me also and said, “You shall not enter(JN) it, either. 38 But your assistant, Joshua(JO) son of Nun, will enter it. Encourage(JP) him, because he will lead(JQ) Israel to inherit(JR) it. 39 And the little ones that you said would be taken captive,(JS) your children who do not yet know(JT) good from bad—they will enter the land. I will give it to them and they will take possession of it. 40 But as for you, turn around and set out toward the desert along the route to the Red Sea.[g](JU)

41 Then you replied, “We have sinned against the Lord. We will go up and fight, as the Lord our God commanded us.” So every one of you put on his weapons, thinking it easy to go up into the hill country.

42 But the Lord said to me, “Tell them, ‘Do not go up and fight, because I will not be with you. You will be defeated by your enemies.’”(JV)

43 So I told you, but you would not listen. You rebelled against the Lord’s command and in your arrogance you marched up into the hill country. 44 The Amorites who lived in those hills came out against you; they chased you like a swarm of bees(JW) and beat you down from Seir(JX) all the way to Hormah.(JY) 45 You came back and wept before the Lord,(JZ) but he paid no attention(KA) to your weeping and turned a deaf ear(KB) to you. 46 And so you stayed in Kadesh(KC) many days—all the time you spent there.

Wanderings in the Wilderness

Then we turned back and set out toward the wilderness along the route to the Red Sea,[h](KD) as the Lord had directed me. For a long time we made our way around the hill country of Seir.(KE)

Then the Lord said to me, “You have made your way around this hill country long enough;(KF) now turn north. Give the people these orders:(KG) ‘You are about to pass through the territory of your relatives the descendants of Esau,(KH) who live in Seir.(KI) They will be afraid(KJ) of you, but be very careful. Do not provoke them to war, for I will not give you any of their land, not even enough to put your foot on. I have given Esau the hill country of Seir as his own.(KK) You are to pay them in silver for the food you eat and the water you drink.’”

The Lord your God has blessed you in all the work of your hands. He has watched(KL) over your journey through this vast wilderness.(KM) These forty years(KN) the Lord your God has been with you, and you have not lacked anything.(KO)

So we went on past our relatives the descendants of Esau, who live in Seir. We turned from(KP) the Arabah(KQ) road, which comes up from Elath and Ezion Geber,(KR) and traveled along the desert road of Moab.(KS)

Then the Lord said to me, “Do not harass the Moabites or provoke them to war, for I will not give you any part of their land. I have given Ar(KT) to the descendants of Lot(KU) as a possession.”

10 (The Emites(KV) used to live there—a people strong and numerous, and as tall as the Anakites.(KW) 11 Like the Anakites, they too were considered Rephaites,(KX) but the Moabites called them Emites. 12 Horites(KY) used to live in Seir, but the descendants of Esau drove them out. They destroyed the Horites from before them and settled in their place, just as Israel did(KZ) in the land the Lord gave them as their possession.)

13 And the Lord said, “Now get up and cross the Zered Valley.(LA)” So we crossed the valley.

14 Thirty-eight years(LB) passed from the time we left Kadesh Barnea(LC) until we crossed the Zered Valley. By then, that entire generation(LD) of fighting men had perished from the camp, as the Lord had sworn to them.(LE) 15 The Lord’s hand was against them until he had completely eliminated(LF) them from the camp.

16 Now when the last of these fighting men among the people had died, 17 the Lord said to me, 18 “Today you are to pass by the region of Moab at Ar.(LG) 19 When you come to the Ammonites,(LH) do not harass them or provoke them to war,(LI) for I will not give you possession of any land belonging to the Ammonites. I have given it as a possession to the descendants of Lot.(LJ)

20 (That too was considered a land of the Rephaites,(LK) who used to live there; but the Ammonites called them Zamzummites. 21 They were a people strong and numerous, and as tall as the Anakites.(LL) The Lord destroyed them from before the Ammonites, who drove them out and settled in their place. 22 The Lord had done the same for the descendants of Esau, who lived in Seir,(LM) when he destroyed the Horites from before them. They drove them out and have lived in their place to this day. 23 And as for the Avvites(LN) who lived in villages as far as Gaza,(LO) the Caphtorites(LP) coming out from Caphtor[i](LQ) destroyed them and settled in their place.)

Defeat of Sihon King of Heshbon

24 “Set out now and cross the Arnon Gorge.(LR) See, I have given into your hand Sihon the Amorite,(LS) king of Heshbon, and his country. Begin to take possession of it and engage(LT) him in battle. 25 This very day I will begin to put the terror(LU) and fear(LV) of you on all the nations under heaven. They will hear reports of you and will tremble(LW) and be in anguish because of you.”

26 From the Desert of Kedemoth(LX) I sent messengers to Sihon(LY) king of Heshbon offering peace(LZ) and saying, 27 “Let us pass through your country. We will stay on the main road; we will not turn aside to the right or to the left.(MA) 28 Sell us food to eat(MB) and water to drink for their price in silver. Only let us pass through on foot(MC) 29 as the descendants of Esau, who live in Seir, and the Moabites, who live in Ar, did for us—until we cross the Jordan into the land the Lord our God is giving us.” 30 But Sihon king of Heshbon refused to let us pass through. For the Lord(MD) your God had made his spirit stubborn(ME) and his heart obstinate(MF) in order to give him into your hands,(MG) as he has now done.

31 The Lord said to me, “See, I have begun to deliver Sihon and his country over to you. Now begin to conquer and possess his land.”(MH)

32 When Sihon and all his army came out to meet us in battle(MI) at Jahaz, 33 the Lord our God delivered(MJ) him over to us and we struck him down,(MK) together with his sons and his whole army. 34 At that time we took all his towns and completely destroyed[j](ML) them—men, women and children. We left no survivors. 35 But the livestock(MM) and the plunder(MN) from the towns we had captured we carried off for ourselves. 36 From Aroer(MO) on the rim of the Arnon Gorge, and from the town in the gorge, even as far as Gilead,(MP) not one town was too strong for us. The Lord our God gave(MQ) us all of them. 37 But in accordance with the command of the Lord our God,(MR) you did not encroach on any of the land of the Ammonites,(MS) neither the land along the course of the Jabbok(MT) nor that around the towns in the hills.

Defeat of Og King of Bashan

Next we turned and went up along the road toward Bashan, and Og king of Bashan(MU) with his whole army marched out to meet us in battle at Edrei.(MV) The Lord said to me, “Do not be afraid(MW) of him, for I have delivered him into your hands, along with his whole army and his land. Do to him what you did to Sihon king of the Amorites, who reigned in Heshbon.”

So the Lord our God also gave into our hands Og king of Bashan and all his army. We struck them down,(MX) leaving no survivors.(MY) At that time we took all his cities.(MZ) There was not one of the sixty cities that we did not take from them—the whole region of Argob, Og’s kingdom(NA) in Bashan.(NB) All these cities were fortified with high walls and with gates and bars, and there were also a great many unwalled villages. We completely destroyed[k] them, as we had done with Sihon king of Heshbon, destroying[l](NC) every city—men, women and children. But all the livestock(ND) and the plunder from their cities we carried off for ourselves.

So at that time we took from these two kings of the Amorites(NE) the territory east of the Jordan, from the Arnon Gorge as far as Mount Hermon.(NF) (Hermon is called Sirion(NG) by the Sidonians; the Amorites call it Senir.)(NH) 10 We took all the towns on the plateau, and all Gilead, and all Bashan as far as Salekah(NI) and Edrei, towns of Og’s kingdom in Bashan. 11 (Og king of Bashan was the last of the Rephaites.(NJ) His bed was decorated with iron and was more than nine cubits long and four cubits wide.[m] It is still in Rabbah(NK) of the Ammonites.)

Division of the Land

12 Of the land that we took over at that time, I gave the Reubenites and the Gadites the territory north of Aroer(NL) by the Arnon Gorge, including half the hill country of Gilead, together with its towns.
