17 И рече Господ на Моисея, думайки:
2 кажи на синовете Израилеви и вземи от тях по жезъл от коляно, от всичките им началници според колената, дванайсет жезъла, и името на всекиго напиши върху жезъла му;
3 Аароновото име напиши на Левиевия жезъл, защото (те трябва да дадат) един жезъл от началника на своето коляно;
4 (A)и ги тури в скинията на събранието, пред ковчега на откровението, дето ви се явявам;
5 и когото Аз избера, неговият жезъл ще покара; и така ще умиря ропота на синовете Израилеви, който дигат против вас.
6 И рече Моисей на синовете Израилеви, и всичките им началници му дадоха, от всеки началник по жезъл, дванайсет жезъла, според колената си; и Аароновият жезъл беше между жезлите им.
7 Тогава Моисей тури жезлите пред лицето Господне в скинията на откровението.
8 (B)На другия ден влезе Моисей (и Аарон) в скинията на откровението, и ето, Аароновият жезъл, от Левиевия дом, бе покарал, напъпил, цъфнал и родил миндали.
9 И изнесе Моисей всички жезли от пред лицето Господне пред всички синове Израилеви; и те видяха това и взеха всеки жезъла си.
10 (C)И рече Господ на Моисея: тури пак Аароновия жезъл пред ковчега на откровението да се пази, като личба за непокорните, та ропотът им против Мене да престане, и те да не измрат.
11 Моисей направи това: както му заповяда Господ, така и направи.
12 И рекоха синовете Израилеви на Моисея: ето, ние мрем, гинем, всички загинваме!
13 (D)Всеки, който се приближи до скинията Господня, умира: дали не ще измрем всички?

The Budding of Aaron’s Staff
17 [a]The Lord said to Moses, 2 “Speak to the Israelites and get twelve staffs(A) from them, one from the leader of each of their ancestral tribes.(B) Write the name of each man on his staff. 3 On the staff of Levi write Aaron’s name,(C) for there must be one staff for the head of each ancestral tribe. 4 Place them in the tent of meeting(D) in front of the ark of the covenant law,(E) where I meet with you.(F) 5 The staff belonging to the man I choose(G) will sprout,(H) and I will rid myself of this constant grumbling(I) against you by the Israelites.”
6 So Moses spoke to the Israelites, and their leaders gave him twelve staffs, one for the leader of each of their ancestral tribes, and Aaron’s staff was among them. 7 Moses placed the staffs before the Lord in the tent of the covenant law.(J)
8 The next day Moses entered the tent(K) and saw that Aaron’s staff,(L) which represented the tribe of Levi, had not only sprouted but had budded, blossomed and produced almonds.(M) 9 Then Moses brought out all the staffs(N) from the Lord’s presence to all the Israelites. They looked at them, and each of the leaders took his own staff.
10 The Lord said to Moses, “Put back Aaron’s staff(O) in front of the ark of the covenant law, to be kept as a sign to the rebellious.(P) This will put an end to their grumbling against me, so that they will not die.” 11 Moses did just as the Lord commanded him.
12 The Israelites said to Moses, “We will die! We are lost, we are all lost!(Q) 13 Anyone who even comes near the tabernacle of the Lord will die.(R) Are we all going to die?”

The Budding of Aaron’s Rod
17 And the Lord spoke to Moses, saying: 2 “Speak to the children of Israel, and get from them a rod from each father’s house, all their leaders according to their fathers’ houses—twelve rods. Write each man’s name on his rod. 3 And you shall write Aaron’s name on the rod of Levi. For there shall be one rod for the head of each father’s house. 4 Then you shall place them in the tabernacle of meeting before (A)the Testimony, (B)where I meet with you. 5 And it shall be that the rod of the man (C)whom I choose will blossom; thus I will rid Myself of the complaints of the children of Israel, (D)which they make against you.”
6 So Moses spoke to the children of Israel, and each of their leaders gave him a rod apiece, for each leader according to their fathers’ houses, twelve rods; and the rod of Aaron was among their rods. 7 And Moses placed the rods before the Lord in (E)the tabernacle of witness.
8 Now it came to pass on the next day that Moses went into the tabernacle of witness, and behold, the (F)rod of Aaron, of the house of Levi, had sprouted and put forth buds, had produced blossoms and yielded ripe almonds. 9 Then Moses brought out all the rods from before the Lord to all the children of Israel; and they looked, and each man took his rod.
10 And the Lord said to Moses, “Bring (G)Aaron’s rod back before the Testimony, to be kept (H)as a sign against the rebels, (I)that you may put their complaints away from Me, lest they die.” 11 Thus did Moses; just as the Lord had commanded him, so he did.
12 So the children of Israel spoke to Moses, saying, “Surely we die, we perish, we all perish! 13 (J)Whoever even comes near the tabernacle of the Lord must die. Shall we all utterly die?”
