Tree of Life Version
16 These were those selected from the community, princes of their ancestral tribes. They were heads of the thousands of Israel.
17 So Moses and Aaron took these men designated by name. 18 They assembled all the community on the first day of the second month. They declared their lineage according to their families, the households of their forefathers, with the number of the names of those 20 years old and upward being listed individually.

16 These were the men appointed from the community, the leaders(A) of their ancestral tribes.(B) They were the heads of the clans of Israel.(C)
17 Moses and Aaron took these men whose names had been specified, 18 and they called the whole community together on the first day of the second month.(D) The people registered their ancestry(E) by their clans and families,(F) and the men twenty years old or more(G) were listed by name, one by one,
