^35 (A)For I have come ^(B)to set a man against his father, and a daughter against her mother, and a daughter-in-law against her mother-in-law. ^36 (C)And a person's enemies will be those of his own household.

⁵³ They will be divided, ^(A)father against son and son against father, mother against daughter and daughter against mother, mother-in-law against her daughter-in-law and daughter-in-law against mother-in-law.”

^21 (A)Brother will deliver brother over to death, and the father his child, and children will rise against parents and have them put to death,

² For people will be ^(A)lovers of self, ^(B)lovers of money, ^(C)proud, ^(D)arrogant, abusive, ^(E)disobedient to their parents, ungrateful, unholy, ^3 (F)heartless, unappeasable, slanderous, without self-control, brutal, ^(G)not loving good,

⁷ Father and mother ^(A)are treated with contempt in you; the sojourner ^(B)suffers extortion in your midst; the fatherless and the widow ^(C)are wronged in you.

^18 (A)I am not speaking of all of you; I know ^(B)whom I have chosen. But ^(C)the Scripture will be fulfilled,^{[a] (D)}‘He who ate my bread has lifted his heel against me.’
