John the Baptist Prepares the Way(A)
3 In those days (B)John the Baptist came preaching (C)in the wilderness of Judea, 2 and saying, “Repent, for (D)the kingdom of heaven is at hand!” 3 For this is he who was spoken of by the prophet Isaiah, saying:
(E)“The voice of one crying in the wilderness:
(F)‘Prepare the way of the Lord;
Make His paths straight.’ ”
4 Now (G)John himself was clothed in camel’s hair, with a leather belt around his waist; and his food was (H)locusts and (I)wild honey. 5 (J)Then Jerusalem, all Judea, and all the region around the Jordan went out to him 6 (K)and were baptized by him in the Jordan, confessing their sins.
7 But when he saw many of the Pharisees and Sadducees coming to his baptism, he said to them, (L)“Brood of vipers! Who warned you to flee from (M)the wrath to come? 8 Therefore bear fruits worthy of repentance, 9 and do not think to say to yourselves, (N)‘We have Abraham as our father.’ For I say to you that God is able to raise up children to Abraham from these stones. 10 And even now the ax is laid to the root of the trees. (O)Therefore every tree which does not bear good fruit is cut down and thrown into the fire. 11 (P)I indeed baptize you with water unto repentance, but He who is coming after me is mightier than I, whose sandals I am not worthy to carry. (Q)He will baptize you with the Holy Spirit [a]and fire. 12 (R)His winnowing fan is in His hand, and He will thoroughly clean out His threshing floor, and gather His wheat into the barn; but He will (S)burn up the chaff with unquenchable fire.”
John Baptizes Jesus(T)
13 (U)Then Jesus came (V)from Galilee to John at the Jordan to be baptized by him. 14 And John tried to prevent Him, saying, “I need to be baptized by You, and are You coming to me?”
15 But Jesus answered and said to him, “Permit it to be so now, for thus it is fitting for us to fulfill all righteousness.” Then he allowed Him.
16 (W)When He had been baptized, Jesus came up immediately from the water; and behold, the heavens were opened to Him, and [b]He saw (X)the Spirit of God descending like a dove and alighting upon Him. 17 (Y)And suddenly a voice came from heaven, saying, (Z)“This is My beloved Son, in whom I am well pleased.”

3 Lè a te rive, Janbatis ki te vin nan zòn dezè rejyon Jide. 2 Jan t ap di moun yo: “Repanti, chanje jan n ap viv lavi nou, paske wayòm Bondye a rive sou nou.” 3 Se sou Janbatis Ezayi t ap pale, lè l te di:
“Gen yon vwa nan dezè a k ap pale byen fò:
Fè chemen pou Senyè a.
Fè wout yo byen dwat devant l.”(A)
4 Jan te abiye ak yon rad ki fèt ak plim po chamo. Li te gen yon sentiwon an kui nan ren li. Li te konn manje krikèt ak siwo myèl. 5 Moun te soti Jerizalèm, nan tout rejyon Jide a, ak nan tout zòn rivyè Jouden an pou yo vin tande Jan. 6 Yo te konfese peche yo epi Jan te batize yo nan rivyè Jouden an.
7 Pami moun yo ki t ap vin resevwa batèm Jan an, te gen anpil Farizyen ak Sadiseyen. Lè Jan wè sa, li di yo: “Bann ras vipè! Kilès ki fè nou konnen pou n chape anba jijman kolè Bondye ki pa lwen vini an? 8 Enben, se pou nou montre nou repanti nan jan n ap viv. 9 Pa chita ap di: Se pitit Abraram nou ye! Paske, m ap di nou franchman, Bondye ka fè wòch sa yo fè pitit pou Abraram. 10 Rach la gentan pare pou koupe pyebwa yo depi nan rasin. Nenpòt pyebwa ki pa pwodui bonjan fwi, y ap koupe l epi jete l nan dife a.
11 Mwen menm, mwen batize nou nan dlo pou montre chanjman nan kè nou ak nan lavi nou. Men, sila a k ap vin apre m nan, li ka fè plis pase m. Mwen pa diy ase pou m sèvi kòm esklav pou delase sandal nan pye l. Li menm l ap batize nou nan Sentespri ak nan dife. 12 Li gen laye l nan men l pou l ka separe bon grenn yo ak pay yo.[a] L ap mete bon grenn yo nan depo, epi l ap lage pay yo nan yon dife ki p ap janm etenn.”

13 Nan menm epòk la, Jezi soti nan rejyon Galile, li vini bò larivyè Jouden an paske li te vle pou Jan batize l. 14 Men, Jan t ap chache yon fason pou l di non. Li di Jezi konsa: “Se mwen ki ta pou vin jwenn ou pou ou batize m, pouki ou vin jwenn mwen?”
15 Lè sa a, Jezi reponn li: “Kite tout bagay fèt kon sa pou kounye a. Nou dwe fè tout sa ki dwat pou akonpli plan Bondye.” Apre sa, Jan te vin dakò pou l batize Jezi.
16 Se kon sa Jezi te resevwa batèm nan. Touswit apre li te soti nan dlo a, syèl la te louvri. Lè sa a, Jezi wè Sentespri a tankou yon pijon ki t ap desann sou li. 17 Epi yon vwa soti nan syèl la, li di: “Sa a se pitit mwen renmen anpil la. Li fè kè m kontan anpil.”
