27 And morning having come, all the chief priests and the elders of the people took counsel against Jesus, so as to put him to death;
2 and having bound him, they did lead away, and delivered him up to Pontius Pilate, the governor.
3 Then Judas -- he who delivered him up -- having seen that he was condemned, having repented, brought back the thirty silverlings to the chief priests, and to the elders, saying,
4 `I did sin, having delivered up innocent blood;' and they said, `What -- to us? thou shalt see!'
5 and having cast down the silverlings in the sanctuary, he departed, and having gone away, he did strangle himself.
6 And the chief priests having taken the silverlings, said, `It is not lawful to put them to the treasury, seeing it is the price of blood;'
7 and having taken counsel, they bought with them the field of the potter, for the burial of strangers;
8 therefore was that field called, `Field of blood,' unto this day.
9 Then was fulfilled that spoken through Jeremiah the prophet, saying, `And I took the thirty silverlings, the price of him who hath been priced, whom they of the sons of Israel did price,
10 and gave them for the field of the potter, as the Lord did appoint to me.'
11 And Jesus stood before the governor, and the governor did question him, saying, `Art thou the king of the Jews!' And Jesus said to him, `Thou sayest.'
12 And in his being accused by the chief priests and the elders, he did not answer any thing,
13 then saith Pilate to him, `Dost thou not hear how many things they witness against thee?'
14 And he did not answer him, not even to one word, so that the governor did wonder greatly.
15 And at the feast the governor had been accustomed to release one to the multitude, a prisoner, whom they willed,
16 and they had then a noted prisoner, called Barabbas,
17 they therefore having been gathered together, Pilate said to them, `Whom will ye I shall release to you? Barabbas or Jesus who is called Christ?'
18 for he had known that because of envy they had delivered him up.
19 And as he is sitting on the tribunal, his wife sent unto him, saying, `Nothing -- to thee and to that righteous one, for many things did I suffer to-day in a dream because of him.'
20 And the chief priests and the elders did persuade the multitudes that they might ask for themselves Barabbas, and might destroy Jesus;
21 and the governor answering said to them, `Which of the two will ye [that] I shall release to you?' And they said, `Barabbas.'
22 Pilate saith to them, `What then shall I do with Jesus who is called Christ?' They all say to him, `Let be crucified!'
23 And the governor said, `Why, what evil did he?' and they were crying out the more, saying, `Let be crucified.'
24 And Pilate having seen that it profiteth nothing, but rather a tumult is made, having taken water, he did wash the hands before the multitude, saying, `I am innocent from the blood of this righteous one; ye -- ye shall see;'
25 and all the people answering said, `His blood [is] upon us, and upon our children!'
26 Then did he release to them Barabbas, and having scourged Jesus, he delivered [him] up that he may be crucified;
27 then the soldiers of the governor having taken Jesus to the Praetorium, did gather to him all the band;
28 and having unclothed him, they put around him a crimson cloak,
29 and having plaited him a crown out of thorns they put [it] on his head, and a reed in his right hand, and having kneeled before him, they were mocking him, saying, `Hail, the king of the Jews.'
30 And having spit on him, they took the reed, and were smiting on his head;
31 and when they had mocked him, they took off from him the cloak, and put on him his own garments, and led him away to crucify [him].
32 And coming forth, they found a man, a Cyrenian, by name Simon: him they impressed that he might bear his cross;
33 and having come to a place called Golgotha, that is called Place of a Skull,
34 they gave him to drink vinegar mixed with gall, and having tasted, he would not drink.
35 And having crucified him, they divided his garments, casting a lot, that it might be fulfilled that was spoken by the prophet, `They divided my garments to themselves, and over my vesture they cast a lot;'
36 and sitting down, they were watching him there,
37 and they put up over his head, his accusation written, `This is Jesus, the king of the Jews.'
38 Then crucified with him are two robbers, one on the right hand, and one on the left,
39 and those passing by were speaking evil of him, wagging their heads,
40 and saying, `Thou that art throwing down the sanctuary, and in three days building [it], save thyself; if Son thou art of God, come down from the cross.'
41 And in like manner also the chief priests mocking, with the scribes and elders, said,
42 `Others he saved; himself he is not able to save! If he be King of Israel, let him come down now from the cross, and we will believe him;
43 he hath trusted on God, let Him now deliver him, if He wish him, because he said -- Son of God I am;'
44 with the same also the robbers, who were crucified with him, were reproaching him.
45 And from the sixth hour darkness came over all the land unto the ninth hour,
46 and about the ninth hour Jesus cried out with a great voice, saying, `Eli, Eli, lama sabachthani?' that is, `My God, my God, why didst Thou forsake me?'
47 And certain of those standing there having heard, said -- `Elijah he doth call;'
48 and immediately, one of them having run, and having taken a spunge, having filled [it] with vinegar, and having put [it] on a reed, was giving him to drink,
49 but the rest said, `Let alone, let us see if Elijah doth come -- about to save him.'
50 And Jesus having again cried with a great voice, yielded the spirit;
51 and lo, the vail of the sanctuary was rent in two from top unto bottom, and the earth did quake, and the rocks were rent,
52 and the tombs were opened, and many bodies of the saints who have fallen asleep, arose,
53 and having come forth out of the tombs after his rising, they went into the holy city, and appeared to many.
54 And the centurion, and those with him watching Jesus, having seen the earthquake, and the things that were done, were exceedingly afraid, saying, `Truly this was God's Son.'
55 And there were there many women beholding from afar, who did follow Jesus from Galilee, ministering to him,
56 among whom was Mary the Magdalene, and Mary the mother of James and of Joses, and the mother of the sons of Zebedee.
57 And evening having come, there came a rich man, from Arimathea, named Joseph, who also himself was discipled to Jesus,
58 he having gone near to Pilate, asked for himself the body of Jesus; then Pilate commanded the body to be given back.
59 And having taken the body, Joseph wrapped it in clean linen,
60 and laid it in his new tomb, that he hewed in the rock, and having rolled a great stone to the door of the tomb, he went away;
61 and there were there Mary the Magdalene, and the other Mary, sitting over-against the sepulchre.
62 And on the morrow that is after the preparation, were gathered together the chief priests, and the Pharisees, unto Pilate,
63 saying, `Sir, we have remembered that that deceiver said while yet living, After three days I do rise;
64 command, then, the sepulchre to be made secure till the third day, lest his disciples, having come by night, may steal him away, and may say to the people, He rose from the dead, and the last deceit shall be worse than the first.'
65 And Pilate said to them, `Ye have a watch, go away, make secure -- as ye have known;'
66 and they, having gone, did make the sepulchre secure, having sealed the stone, together with the watch.

27 Y VENIDA la mañana, entraron en consejo todos los príncipes de los sacerdotes, y los ancianos del pueblo, contra Jesús, para entregarle á muerte.
2 Y le llevaron atado, y le entregaron á Poncio Pilato presidente.
3 Entonces Judas, el que le había entregado, viendo que era condenado, volvió arrepentido las treinta piezas de plata á los príncipes de los sacerdotes y á los ancianos,
4 Diciendo: Yo he pecado entregando la sangre inocente. Mas ellos dijeron: ¿Qué se nos da á nosotros? Viéras lo tú.
5 Y arrojando las piezas de plata en el templo, partióse; y fué, y se ahorcó.
6 Y los príncipes de los sacerdotes, tomando las piezas de plata, dijeron: No es lícito echarlas en el tesoro de los dones, porque es precio de sangre.
7 Mas habido consejo, compraron con ellas el campo del alfarero, por sepultura para los extranjeros.
8 Por lo cual fué llamado aquel campo, Campo de sangre, hasta el día de hoy.
9 Entonces se cumplió lo que fué dicho por el profeta Jeremías, que dijo: Y tomaron las treinta piezas de plata, precio del apreciado, que fué apreciado por los hijos de Israel;
10 Y las dieron para el campo del alfarero, como me ordenó el Señor.

16 Y tenían entonces un preso famoso que se llamaba Barrabás.
17 Y juntos ellos, les dijo Pilato; ¿Cuál queréis que os suelte? ¿á Barrabás ó á Jesús que se dice el Cristo?
18 Porque sabía que por envidia le habían entregado.
19 Y estando él sentado en el tribunal, su mujer envió á él, diciendo: No tengas que ver con aquel justo; porque hoy he padecido muchas cosas en sueños por causa de él.
20 Mas los príncipes de los sacerdotes y los ancianos, persuadieron al pueblo que pidiese á Barrabás, y á Jesús matase.
21 Y respondiendo el presidente les dijo: ¿Cuál de los dos queréis que os suelte? Y ellos dijeron: á Barrabás.
22 Pilato les dijo: ¿Qué pues haré de Jesús que se dice el Cristo? Dícenle todos: Sea crucificado.
23 Y el presidente les dijo: Pues ¿qué mal ha hecho? Mas ellos gritaban más, diciendo: Sea crucificado.
24 Y viendo Pilato que nada adelantaba, antes se hacía más alboroto, tomando agua se lavó las manos delante del pueblo, diciendo: Inocente soy yo de la sangre de este justo veréis lo vosotros.
25 Y respondiendo todo el pueblo, dijo: Su sangre sea sobre nosotros, y sobre nuestros hijos.
26 Entonces les soltó á Barrabás: y habiendo azotado á Jesús, le entregó para ser crucificado.
27 Entonces los soldados del presidente llevaron á Jesús al pretorio, y juntaron á él toda la cuadrilla;
28 Y desnudándole, le echaron encima un manto de grana;
29 Y pusieron sobre su cabeza una corona tejida de espinas, y una caña en su mano derecha; é hincando la rodilla delante de él, le burlaban, diciendo: Salve, Rey de los Judíos!
30 Y escupiendo en él, tomaron la caña, y le herían en la cabeza.
31 Y después que le hubieron escarnecido, le desnudaron el manto, y le vistieron de sus vestidos, y le llevaron para crucificarle.
32 Y saliendo, hallaron á un Cireneo, que se llamaba Simón: á éste cargaron para que llevase su cruz.
33 Y como llegaron al lugar que se llamaba Gólgotha, que es dicho, El lugar de la calavera,
34 Le dieron á beber vinagre mezclado con hiel: y gustando, no quiso beber lo
35 Y después que le hubieron crucificado, repartieron sus vestidos, echando suertes: para que se cumpliese lo que fué dicho por el profeta: Se repartieron mis vestidos, y sobre mi ropa echaron suertes.
36 Y sentados le guardaban allí.
37 Y pusieron sobre su cabeza su causa escrita: ESTE ES JESUS EL REY DE LOS JUDIOS.
38 Entonces crucificaron con él dos ladrones, uno á la derecha, y otro á la izquierda.
39 Y los que pasaban, le decían injurias, meneando sus cabezas,
40 Y diciendo: Tú, el que derribas el templo, y en tres días lo reedificas, sálvate á ti mismo: si eres Hijo de Dios, desciende de la cruz.
41 De esta manera también los príncipes de los sacerdotes, escarneciendo con los escribas y los Fariseos y los ancianos, decían:
42 á otros salvó, á sí mismo no puede salvar: si es el Rey de Israel, descienda ahora de la cruz, y creeremos en él.
43 Confió en Dios: líbrele ahora si le quiere: porque ha dicho: Soy Hijo de Dios.
44 Lo mismo también le zaherían los ladrones que estaban crucificados con él.
45 Y desde la hora de sexta fueron tinieblas sobre toda la tierra hasta la hora de nona.
46 Y cerca de la hora de nona, Jesús exclamó con grande voz, diciendo: Eli, Eli, ¿lama sabachtani? Esto es: Dios mío, Dios mío, ¿por qué me has desamparado?
47 Y algunos de los que estaban allí, oyéndolo, decían: A Elías llama éste.
48 Y luego, corriendo uno de ellos, tomó una esponja, y la hinchió de vinagre, y poniéndola en una caña, dábale de beber.
49 Y los otros decían: Deja, veamos si viene Elías á librarle.
50 Mas Jesús, habiendo otra vez exclamado con grande voz, dió el espíritu.
51 Y he aquí, el velo del templo se rompió en dos, de alto á bajo: y la tierra tembló, y las piedras se hendieron;
52 Y abriéronse los sepulcros, y muchos cuerpos de santos que habían dormido, se levantaron;
53 Y salidos de los sepulcros, después de su resurrección, vinieron á la santa ciudad, y aparecieron á muchos.
54 Y el centurión, y los que estaban con él guardando á Jesús, visto el terremoto, y las cosas que habían sido hechas, temieron en gran manera, diciendo: Verdaderamente Hijo de Dios era éste.
55 Y estaban allí muchas mujeres mirando de lejos, las cuales habían seguido de Galilea á Jesús, sirviéndole:
56 Entre las cuales estaban María Magdalena, y María la madre de Jacobo y de José, y la madre de los hijos de Zebedeo.
57 Y como fué la tarde del día, vino un hombre rico de Arimatea, llamado José, el cual también había sido discípulo de Jesús.
58 Este llegó á Pilato, y pidió el cuerpo de Jesús: entonces Pilato mandó que se le diese el cuerpo.
59 Y tomando José el cuerpo, lo envolvió en una sábana limpia,
60 Y lo puso en su sepulcro nuevo, que había labrado en la peña: y revuelta una grande piedra á la puerta del sepulcro, se fué.

64 Manda, pues, que se asegure el sepulcro hasta el día tercero; porque no vengan sus discípulos de noche, y le hurten, y digan al pueblo: Resucitó de los muertos. Y será el postrer error peor que el primero.
65 Y Pilato les dijo: Tenéis una guardia: id, aseguradlo como sabéis.
66 Y yendo ellos, aseguraron el sepulcro, sellando la piedra, con la guardia.

Judas Hangs Himself
27 Early in the morning, all the chief priests and the elders of the people made their plans how to have Jesus executed.(A) 2 So they bound him, led him away and handed him over(B) to Pilate the governor.(C)
3 When Judas, who had betrayed him,(D) saw that Jesus was condemned, he was seized with remorse and returned the thirty pieces of silver(E) to the chief priests and the elders. 4 “I have sinned,” he said, “for I have betrayed innocent blood.”
“What is that to us?” they replied. “That’s your responsibility.”(F)
5 So Judas threw the money into the temple(G) and left. Then he went away and hanged himself.(H)
6 The chief priests picked up the coins and said, “It is against the law to put this into the treasury, since it is blood money.” 7 So they decided to use the money to buy the potter’s field as a burial place for foreigners. 8 That is why it has been called the Field of Blood(I) to this day. 9 Then what was spoken by Jeremiah the prophet was fulfilled:(J) “They took the thirty pieces of silver, the price set on him by the people of Israel, 10 and they used them to buy the potter’s field, as the Lord commanded me.”[a](K)
Jesus Before Pilate(L)
11 Meanwhile Jesus stood before the governor, and the governor asked him, “Are you the king of the Jews?”(M)
“You have said so,” Jesus replied.
12 When he was accused by the chief priests and the elders, he gave no answer.(N) 13 Then Pilate asked him, “Don’t you hear the testimony they are bringing against you?”(O) 14 But Jesus made no reply,(P) not even to a single charge—to the great amazement of the governor.
15 Now it was the governor’s custom at the festival to release a prisoner(Q) chosen by the crowd. 16 At that time they had a well-known prisoner whose name was Jesus[b] Barabbas. 17 So when the crowd had gathered, Pilate asked them, “Which one do you want me to release to you: Jesus Barabbas, or Jesus who is called the Messiah?”(R) 18 For he knew it was out of self-interest that they had handed Jesus over to him.
19 While Pilate was sitting on the judge’s seat,(S) his wife sent him this message: “Don’t have anything to do with that innocent(T) man, for I have suffered a great deal today in a dream(U) because of him.”
20 But the chief priests and the elders persuaded the crowd to ask for Barabbas and to have Jesus executed.(V)
21 “Which of the two do you want me to release to you?” asked the governor.
“Barabbas,” they answered.
22 “What shall I do, then, with Jesus who is called the Messiah?”(W) Pilate asked.
They all answered, “Crucify him!”
23 “Why? What crime has he committed?” asked Pilate.
But they shouted all the louder, “Crucify him!”
24 When Pilate saw that he was getting nowhere, but that instead an uproar(X) was starting, he took water and washed his hands(Y) in front of the crowd. “I am innocent of this man’s blood,”(Z) he said. “It is your responsibility!”(AA)
25 All the people answered, “His blood is on us and on our children!”(AB)
26 Then he released Barabbas to them. But he had Jesus flogged,(AC) and handed him over to be crucified.
The Soldiers Mock Jesus(AD)
27 Then the governor’s soldiers took Jesus into the Praetorium(AE) and gathered the whole company of soldiers around him. 28 They stripped him and put a scarlet robe on him,(AF) 29 and then twisted together a crown of thorns and set it on his head. They put a staff in his right hand. Then they knelt in front of him and mocked him. “Hail, king of the Jews!” they said.(AG) 30 They spit on him, and took the staff and struck him on the head again and again.(AH) 31 After they had mocked him, they took off the robe and put his own clothes on him. Then they led him away to crucify him.(AI)
The Crucifixion of Jesus(AJ)
32 As they were going out,(AK) they met a man from Cyrene,(AL) named Simon, and they forced him to carry the cross.(AM) 33 They came to a place called Golgotha (which means “the place of the skull”).(AN) 34 There they offered Jesus wine to drink, mixed with gall;(AO) but after tasting it, he refused to drink it. 35 When they had crucified him, they divided up his clothes by casting lots.(AP) 36 And sitting down, they kept watch(AQ) over him there. 37 Above his head they placed the written charge against him: this is jesus, the king of the jews.
38 Two rebels were crucified with him,(AR) one on his right and one on his left. 39 Those who passed by hurled insults at him, shaking their heads(AS) 40 and saying, “You who are going to destroy the temple and build it in three days,(AT) save yourself!(AU) Come down from the cross, if you are the Son of God!”(AV) 41 In the same way the chief priests, the teachers of the law and the elders mocked him. 42 “He saved others,” they said, “but he can’t save himself! He’s the king of Israel!(AW) Let him come down now from the cross, and we will believe(AX) in him. 43 He trusts in God. Let God rescue him(AY) now if he wants him, for he said, ‘I am the Son of God.’” 44 In the same way the rebels who were crucified with him also heaped insults on him.
The Death of Jesus(AZ)
45 From noon until three in the afternoon darkness(BA) came over all the land. 46 About three in the afternoon Jesus cried out in a loud voice, “Eli, Eli,[c] lema sabachthani?” (which means “My God, my God, why have you forsaken me?”).[d](BB)
47 When some of those standing there heard this, they said, “He’s calling Elijah.”
48 Immediately one of them ran and got a sponge. He filled it with wine vinegar,(BC) put it on a staff, and offered it to Jesus to drink. 49 The rest said, “Now leave him alone. Let’s see if Elijah comes to save him.”
50 And when Jesus had cried out again in a loud voice, he gave up his spirit.(BD)
51 At that moment the curtain of the temple(BE) was torn in two from top to bottom. The earth shook, the rocks split(BF) 52 and the tombs broke open. The bodies of many holy people who had died were raised to life. 53 They came out of the tombs after Jesus’ resurrection and[e] went into the holy city(BG) and appeared to many people.
54 When the centurion and those with him who were guarding(BH) Jesus saw the earthquake and all that had happened, they were terrified, and exclaimed, “Surely he was the Son of God!”(BI)
55 Many women were there, watching from a distance. They had followed Jesus from Galilee to care for his needs.(BJ) 56 Among them were Mary Magdalene, Mary the mother of James and Joseph,[f] and the mother of Zebedee’s sons.(BK)
The Burial of Jesus(BL)
57 As evening approached, there came a rich man from Arimathea, named Joseph, who had himself become a disciple of Jesus. 58 Going to Pilate, he asked for Jesus’ body, and Pilate ordered that it be given to him. 59 Joseph took the body, wrapped it in a clean linen cloth, 60 and placed it in his own new tomb(BM) that he had cut out of the rock. He rolled a big stone in front of the entrance to the tomb and went away. 61 Mary Magdalene and the other Mary were sitting there opposite the tomb.
The Guard at the Tomb
62 The next day, the one after Preparation Day, the chief priests and the Pharisees went to Pilate. 63 “Sir,” they said, “we remember that while he was still alive that deceiver said, ‘After three days I will rise again.’(BN) 64 So give the order for the tomb to be made secure until the third day. Otherwise, his disciples may come and steal the body(BO) and tell the people that he has been raised from the dead. This last deception will be worse than the first.”
65 “Take a guard,”(BP) Pilate answered. “Go, make the tomb as secure as you know how.” 66 So they went and made the tomb secure by putting a seal(BQ) on the stone(BR) and posting the guard.(BS)

15 Tuwing Pista ng Paglampas ng Anghel, nakaugalian na ng Gobernador na magpalaya ng isang bilanggo na gustong palayain ng mga tao. 16 Nang panahong iyon, may isang kilalang bilanggo na ang pangalan ay Barabas. 17 Nang magtipon ang mga tao, tinanong sila ni Pilato, “Sino ang gusto ninyong palayain ko? Si Barabas o si Jesus na tinatawag na Cristo?” 18 Alam ni Pilato na pagkainggit ang nagtulak sa pamunuan ng mga Judio na dalhin sa kanya si Jesus.
19 Habang nakaupo si Pilato sa hukuman, nagpadala ang kanyang asawa ng ganitong mensahe: “Huwag mong pakialaman ang taong iyan na walang kasalanan, sapagkat nabagabag ako nang husto dahil sa panaginip ko tungkol sa kanya.”
20 Pero sinulsulan ng mga namamahalang pari at ng mga pinuno ng mga Judio ang mga tao na hilingin kay Pilato na si Barabas ang palayain, at si Jesus ang ipapatay. 21 Kaya nagtanong ulit si Pilato sa mga tao, “Sino sa dalawa ang gusto ninyong palayain ko?” Sumigaw sila, “Si Barabas!” 22 Nagtanong pa ulit si Pilato, “Ano ngayon ang gagawin ko kay Jesus na tinatawag na Cristo?” Sumagot ang mga tao, “Ipako siya sa krus!” 23 Tinanong sila ni Pilato, “Bakit, ano ba ang ginawa niyang kasalanan?” Pero lalo pang sumigaw ang mga tao, “Ipako siya sa krus!” 24 Nang makita ni Pilato na wala siyang magagawa dahil nagsisimula nang magkagulo ang mga tao, nagpakuha siya ng tubig at naghugas ng kamay sa harap ng mga tao at sinabi, “Wala akong pananagutan sa kamatayan ng taong ito. Kayo ang dapat managot. Malinis ang kamay ko sa bagay na ito.” 25 Sumagot ang mga tao, “Kami at ang mga anak namin ang mananagot sa kanyang kamatayan!” 26 Pagkatapos, pinalaya ni Pilato si Barabas. Pero si Jesus ay ipinahagupit niya at saka ibinigay sa mga sundalo upang ipako sa krus.
Pinahirapan ng mga Sundalo si Jesus(E)
27 Dinala ng mga sundalo si Jesus sa loob ng palasyo ng gobernador, at nagtipon ang buong batalyon ng mga sundalo sa paligid niya. 28 Hinubaran nila siya at sinuotan ng pulang kapa. 29 Gumawa sila ng koronang tinik at ipinutong sa kanya, at ipinahawak ang tungkod sa kanyang kanang kamay bilang setro[b] niya. Lumuhod sila sa harap niya at pakutyang sinabi, “Mabuhay ang Hari ng mga Judio!” 30 Dinuraan nila si Jesus at kinuha ang tungkod sa kanyang kamay at paulit-ulit nilang inihampas sa kanyang ulo. 31 Matapos nilang kutyain si Jesus, hinubad nila sa kanya ang kapa at isinuot muli sa kanya ang damit niya. Pagkatapos, dinala nila siya sa labas ng lungsod upang ipako sa krus.
Ipinako sa Krus si Jesus(F)
32 Nang nasa labas na sila ng lungsod, nakita nila ang isang lalaking taga-Cyrene na ang pangalan ay Simon. Sapilitan nilang ipinapasan sa kanya ang krus ni Jesus. 33 Pagdating nila sa lugar na tinatawag na Golgota, na ang ibig sabihin ay “lugar ng bungo,” 34 pinainom nila si Jesus ng alak na hinaluan ng apdo, pero nang matikman ito ni Jesus ay hindi niya ininom.
35 Ipinako nila si Jesus sa krus, at pinaghati-hatian nila ang kanyang mga damit sa pamamagitan ng palabunutan. 36 Pagkatapos, naupo sila at binantayan si Jesus. 37 Naglagay sila ng karatula sa ulunan ni Jesus, at ganito ang nakasulat na paratang laban sa kanya: “Ito si Jesus, ang Hari ng mga Judio.” 38 May dalawa ring tulisan na ipinako sa krus kasabay ni Jesus, isa sa kanan at isa sa kaliwa.
39 Ininsulto si Jesus ng mga taong napapadaan doon. Napapailing sila 40 at sinasabi, “Hindi baʼt sinasabi mong gigibain mo ang templo at muli mong itatayo sa loob ng tatlong araw? Bakit hindi mo iligtas ang iyong sarili? Kung ikaw nga ang Anak ng Dios, bumaba ka sa krus!” 41 Ganoon din ang pangungutya ng mga namamahalang pari, ng mga tagapagturo ng Kautusan at ng mga pinuno ng mga Judio. Sinabi nila, 42 “Iniligtas niya ang iba, pero hindi niya mailigtas ang kanyang sarili. Hindi baʼt siya ang Hari ng Israel? Kung bababa siya sa krus, maniniwala na kami sa kanya. 43 Nagtitiwala siya sa Dios at sinasabi niyang siya ang Anak ng Dios. Ngayon, tingnan natin kung talagang ililigtas siya ng Dios!” 44 Maging ang mga tulisang ipinakong kasama niya ay nang-insulto rin sa kanya.
Ang Pagkamatay ni Jesus(G)
45 Nang mag-alas dose na ng tanghali, dumilim ang buong lupain sa loob ng tatlong oras. 46 Nang mag-alas tres na ng hapon, sumigaw si Jesus nang malakas, “Eloi, Eloi, lema sabachtani?” na ang ibig sabihin ay “Dios ko, Dios ko, bakit mo ako pinabayaan?”[c] 47 Nang marinig iyon ng mga nakatayo roon, sinabi nila, “Tinatawag niya si Elias.” 48 Agad namang tumakbo ang isang tao at kumuha ng espongha at isinawsaw sa maasim na alak. Ikinabit niya ito sa dulo ng isang patpat at idinampi sa bibig ni Jesus upang sipsipin niya. 49 Pero sinabi naman ng iba, “Hayaan mo siya. Tingnan natin kung darating nga si Elias para iligtas siya.” 50 Muling sumigaw nang malakas si Jesus at nalagutan ng hininga.
51 Nang sandali ring iyon, nahati mula sa itaas hanggang sa ibaba ang kurtina sa loob ng templo. Lumindol sa buong lupain at nagkabitak-bitak ang mga bato. 52 Nabuksan ang mga libingan at maraming banal[d] ang muling nabuhay. 53 Lumabas sila ng libingan, at nang muling mabuhay si Jesus, pumunta sila sa Jerusalem[e] at marami ang nakakita sa kanila.
54 Ang kapitan at ang kanyang mga sundalo na nagbabantay kay Jesus ay nasindak nang mayanig ang lupa at nang makita ang mga pangyayari. Sinabi nila, “Totoo ngang siya ang Anak ng Dios!” 55 Sa di-kalayuan ay maraming babae na nanonood sa mga pangyayari. Noong umalis si Jesus sa Galilea, sumunod ang mga babaeng ito sa kanya at tinulungan siya sa kanyang mga pangangailangan. 56 Kabilang sa kanila si Maria na taga-Magdala,[f] si Maria na ina nina Santiago at Jose, at ang asawa ni Zebedee.
Ang Paglilibing kay Jesus(H)
57 Nang magtakip-silim, isang mayamang lalaki na taga-Arimatea ang dumating. Siya ay si Jose na isa ring tagasunod ni Jesus. 58 Pumunta siya kay Pilato at hiningi ang bangkay ni Jesus. At iniutos naman ni Pilato na ibigay ito sa kanya. 59 Kaya kinuha ni Jose ang bangkay at binalot ng malinis na telang linen. 60 Inilagay niya ito sa bagong libingang hinukay sa gilid ng burol, na ipinagawa niya para sana sa sarili. Pagkatapos, pinagulong niya ang isang malaking bato upang takpan ang pintuan ng libingan, at saka siya umalis. 61 Si Maria na taga-Magdala at ang isa pang Maria ay naroong nakaupo sa harap ng libingan.
Naglagay ng mga Guwardya sa Libingan
62 Kinabukasan, Araw ng Pamamahinga, pumunta ang mga namamahalang pari at ang mga Pariseo kay Pilato. 63 Sinabi nila, “Natatandaan po namin na noong buhay pa ang mapagpanggap na iyon, sinabi niya na mabubuhay daw siyang muli pagkatapos ng tatlong araw. 64 Kaya mabuti sigurong pabantayan po ninyo ang kanyang libingan sa mga susunod na araw, dahil baka nakawin ng mga tagasunod niya ang kanyang bangkay at ipamalitang nabuhay siya. Kapag nangyari ito, mas magiging masahol pa ang pandarayang ito kaysa sa noong una.” 65 Sumagot si Pilato sa kanila, “May mga guwardya kayo. Kayo na ang magpabantay ayon sa nalalaman ninyo.” 66 Kaya pumunta sila sa libingan, at tinatakan nila ang bato na nakatakip sa libingan upang malaman nila kung may nagbukas, at nag-iwan sila roon ng ilang mga bantay.
