³⁶ “Teacher, which is the great commandment in the Law?” ³⁷ And he said to him, ^(A)“You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind. ³⁸ This is the great and first commandment. ³⁹ And ^(B)a second is like it: ^(C)You shall love your neighbor as yourself. ^40 (D)On these two commandments depend ^(E)all the Law and the Prophets.”

^34 (A)A new commandment ^(B)I give to you, ^(C)that you love one another: ^(D)just as I have loved you, you also are to love one another. ^35 (E)By this all people will know that you are my disciples, if you have love for one another.”

³ Jesus answered him, “Truly, truly, I say to you, unless one is ^(A)born ^(B)again^[a] he cannot ^(C)see the kingdom of God.” ⁴ Nicodemus said to him, “How can a man be born when he is old? Can he enter a second time into his mother's womb and be born?” ⁵ Jesus answered, “Truly, truly, I say to you, unless one is born ^(D)of water and the Spirit, he cannot enter the kingdom of God. ^6 (E)That which is born of the flesh is ^(F)flesh, and that which is born of the Spirit is spirit.^{[b] 7 (G)}Do not marvel that I said to you, ‘You^[c] must be born ^(H)again.’

Jesus Promises the Holy Spirit

^15 (A)“If you love me, you will ^(B)keep my commandments. ¹⁶ And I will ask the Father, and he will give you another ^(C)Helper,^[a] to be with you forever, ¹⁷ even ^(D)the Spirit of truth, ^(E)whom the world cannot receive, because it neither sees him nor knows him. You know him, for he dwells with you and ^(F)will be^[b] in you.

^21 (A)Whoever has my commandments and ^(B)keeps them, he it is who loves me. And ^(C)he who loves me ^(D)will be loved by my Father, and I will love him and ^(E)manifest myself to him.” ^22 (F)Judas (not Iscariot) said to him, “Lord, how is it ^(G)that you will manifest yourself to us, and not to the world?” ²³ Jesus answered him, ^(H)“If anyone loves me, he will keep my word, and my Father will love him, and ^(I)we will come to him and ^(J)make our home with him.

²⁶ But the ^(A)Helper, the Holy Spirit, ^(B)whom the Father will send in my name, ^(C)he will teach you all things and ^(D)bring to your remembrance all that I have said to you.

³ For ^(A)this is the love of God, that we ^(B)keep his commandments. And ^(C)his commandments are not burdensome. ⁴ For ^(D)everyone who has been born of God overcomes the world. And this is the victory that has overcome the world—^(E)our faith.

³³ But ^(A)seek first ^(B)the kingdom of God and his righteousness, ^(C)and all these things will be added to you.
