Lord of the sabbath
12 At that time Jesus went through the cornfields on the sabbath. His disciples were hungry, and they began to pluck ears of corn and eat them. 2 When the Pharisees observed this they said to him, “Look here! Your disciples are doing something that’s not permitted on the sabbath!”
3 “Did you never read what David did?” replied Jesus. “When he and his men were hungry, 4 they went into God’s house and ate the holy bread which neither he nor his men were allowed to eat—only the priests had that right. 5 Or didn’t you read in the law that the priests in the Temple do things on the sabbath which are against sabbath law—and they aren’t guilty? 6 Let me tell you this: something greater than the Temple is here. 7 If you’d known what this saying means:
Mercy, not sacrifice, is what I really want—
you wouldn’t have passed judgment on blameless people. 8 Yes, you see: the son of man is master of the sabbath, too.”
9 He left the place and went into their synagogue, 10 where there was a man with a withered hand.
They put the question to him: “Is it lawful to heal on the sabbath?”
(They asked this so that they could frame a charge against him.)
11 “Supposing one of you has just one sheep,” replied Jesus, “and it falls into a ditch on the sabbath. You’ll grab it and haul it out, won’t you? 12 Well then, think how much more important a human being is than a sheep! So, you see, it is permitted to do good on the sabbath.”
13 Then he said to the man, “Stretch your hand out.” He stretched it out, and it was restored to health, just like the other one. 14 But the Pharisees went off and plotted against him, with the intention of doing away with him.
The servant
15 Jesus discovered the plots against him, and left the district. Large crowds followed him, and he healed them all, 16 giving them strict instructions not to tell people about him. 17 This was so that what was spoken through Isaiah the prophet might come true:
18 Look! Here’s my servant, whom I chose;
my beloved one, my heart’s delight.
My spirit I will place on him,
and he’ll announce true judgment
to the whole wide world.
19 He will not argue, nor will he
lift up his voice and shout aloud;
nobody in the streets will hear
his voice. 20 He will not break the damaged
reed, or snuff the guttering lamp,
until his judgment wins the day.
21 The world will hope upon his name.
Jesus and Beelzebul
22 They brought to Jesus a man who was possessed by a demon that made him unable to see or speak. Jesus healed him, so that the sick man was able to talk and see. 23 All the crowds were astonished.
“He can’t be David’s Son, can he?” they said.
24 The Pharisees heard this.
“The fellow can only cast out demons,” they said, “because he’s in league with Beelzebul, the prince of demons!”
25 Jesus knew their thoughts. “Suppose a kingdom is split down the middle,” he said to them. “It’ll go to rack and ruin! If a city or a household is split down the middle, it’s doomed! 26 And if the satan drives out the satan, he’s split down the middle—so how can his kingdom stay standing?
27 “What’s more, if I cast out demons by Beelzebul, whose power are your people channeling when they cast them out? Yes, they’ll tell you what’s what! 28 But if I’m casting out demons because I’m in league with God’s spirit—well, then, God’s kingdom has arrived on your doorstep!
29 “Look at it like this. Suppose you want to break into a strong man’s house and steal his belongings. How are you going to do that unless you first tie up the strong man? Then you can plunder his house to your heart’s content. 30 If you’re not with me, you’re against me. Unless you’re gathering the flock with me, you’re scattering it.
31 “So let me tell you this: people will be forgiven for every sin and blasphemy; but blasphemy against the spirit will not be forgiven. 32 If anyone speaks a word against the son of man, it will be forgiven. But if anyone speaks a word against the holy spirit, it won’t be forgiven, either in the present age or in the age to come.”
The sign of Jonah
33 “You must make up your mind between two possibilities,” Jesus went on. “Either the tree is good, in which case its fruit is good; or the tree is bad, in which case its fruit is bad. You can tell the tree by its fruits, after all.
34 “You’re a family of snakes! How can you say good things when you’re bad inside? What the mouth speaks is what fills the heart. 35 A good person produces good things from a good storeroom; an evil person produces evil things from an evil storeroom. 36 Let me tell you this: on judgment day people will have to own up to every trivial word they say. 37 Yes: you will be vindicated by your own words—and you will be condemned by your own words.”
38 “Teacher,” responded some of the scribes and Pharisees. “We would like to see a sign from you.”
39 “This wicked and immoral generation is looking for a sign,” replied Jesus. “But no sign will be given to it—except the sign of Jonah. 40 Jonah, you see, was in the stomach of the sea-monster for three days and three nights—and in the same way the son of man will be in the heart of the earth for three days and three nights. 41 The men of Nineveh will rise up at the judgment along with this generation and will condemn it. They, after all, repented when they heard Jonah’s warnings! And, in case you hadn’t noticed, something greater than Jonah is here. 42 The Queen of the South will be raised at the judgment with this generation and will condemn it. She, after all, came from the ends of the earth to hear the wisdom of Solomon! And, in case you hadn’t noticed, something greater than Solomon is here.”
Jesus’ true family
43 “When the unclean spirit goes out of a person,” Jesus continued, “it goes wandering through waterless places looking for somewhere to rest, and doesn’t find anywhere. 44 Then it says, ‘I’ll go back to my house, the one I left.’ When it gets there it finds it standing empty, clean and tidy. 45 Then it goes out and collects seven other spirits to join it, spirits worse than itself. They go in and take up residence there. The poor person ends up worse off than they were to start with! And that’s what will happen with this wicked generation.”
46 Suddenly, while he was speaking to the crowds, his mother and his brothers came and stood outside, hoping for a chance to speak to him.
47 “Look,” someone said to him, “your mother and your brothers are standing outside wanting to speak to you.”
48 “Who is my mother?” said Jesus to the person who had spoken to him. “Who are my brothers?”
49 Then he stretched out his hand towards his disciples.
“Look!” he said. “Here are my mother and my brothers. 50 Yes; anyone who does what my heavenly father wants is my brother, and my sister, and my mother.”

安息日的問題
12 那時，耶穌在安息日經過一片麥田。祂的門徒餓了，便隨手搓麥穗吃。 2 法利賽人看見後，對耶穌說：「你看，你的門徒做了在安息日不准做的事！」
3 耶穌回答說：「你們沒有讀過大衛的事蹟嗎？當時他和部下餓了， 4 進入上帝的殿，吃了獻給上帝的供餅。這餅只有祭司才可以吃，大衛和部下是不准吃的。 5 此外律法書又記載，安息日，祭司在聖殿裡觸犯了守安息日的規條也不算有罪。你們沒有讀過嗎？ 6 我告訴你們，這裡有一人比聖殿更偉大， 7 如果你們明白『我喜愛憐憫之心，而非祭物』這句經文的意義，就不會冤枉無辜了。 8 因為人子是安息日的主。」
9 耶穌離開那裡，走進會堂， 10 裡面有個人，一隻手是萎縮的。法利賽人企圖找藉口控告耶穌，就問祂：「安息日可不可以醫病呢？」
11 耶穌回答說：「如果你們有一隻羊在安息日掉進坑裡，難道你們不把牠拉上來嗎？ 12 人比羊要貴重多了！所以在安息日行善合情合理。」
13 於是，耶穌轉過身來對那人說：「把手伸出來！」那人一伸手，手就復原了，跟另一隻手一樣健康。 14 法利賽人卻走了出去，策劃怎樣除掉耶穌。
上帝的僕人
15 耶穌知道了，就離開那個地方。很多人跟隨祂，耶穌醫好了其中所有患病的人， 16 吩咐他們不要洩露祂的身分。 17 這是要應驗以賽亞先知的話：
18 「看啊！我所揀選、
所眷愛、所喜悅的僕人，
我要將我的靈賜給祂，
祂要向萬邦宣揚正義。
19 祂不爭競，不喧嚷，
街上也聽不見祂的聲音。
20 壓傷的蘆葦，祂不折斷；
將殘的燈火，祂不吹滅；
祂終必使正義得勝。
21 普世都要仰望祂的聖名。」
22 有人帶一個被鬼附身、又瞎又啞的人來見耶穌，耶穌便醫好他，使他能說能看。 23 眾人都很驚奇，就說：「這人會不會是大衛的那個後裔？」 24 法利賽人聽見後卻說：「祂不過是靠鬼王別西卜趕鬼罷了。」
25 耶穌知道他們的心思，就說：「一個國內部自相紛爭，必然滅亡；一座城、一個家內部自相紛爭，必然崩潰。 26 若撒旦驅逐撒旦，就是自相紛爭，牠的國怎能維持呢？ 27 若我是靠別西卜趕鬼，你們的子弟又是靠誰趕鬼呢？為此，他們要審判你們。 28 若我是靠上帝的靈趕鬼，就是上帝的國已降臨在你們中間了。
29 「人如何進入壯漢家中搶奪他的財物呢？除非先把那壯漢捆綁起來，才有可能搶劫他的家。
30 「不與我為友就是與我為敵；不助我召集就是故意拆散。 31 所以我告訴你們，一切的罪和褻瀆的話都可以得到赦免，但褻瀆聖靈的罪必得不到赦免。 32 說話得罪人子的，還可以得到赦免；但那些說話冒犯聖靈的，今生永世都得不到赦免。
樹與果
33 「好樹結好果子，壞樹結壞果子，看果子就能知道樹的好壞。 34 你們這些毒蛇的後代！你們心裡邪惡，又怎能講出好話呢？因為心裡充滿的，口裡自然會說出來。 35 善人心存良善，就從他裡面發出良善；惡人心存邪惡，就從他裡面發出邪惡。 36 我告訴你們，在審判之日，人將為自己所說的每一句閒話負責， 37 因為將來要憑你口中的話來判斷你是否有罪。」
求神蹟
38 當時，有幾個律法教師和法利賽人對耶穌說：「老師，我們想要看你行個神蹟。」 39 耶穌回答說：「一個邪惡淫亂的世代想看神蹟，可是除了約拿先知的神蹟以外，再沒有神蹟給他們看。 40 約拿在大魚腹中三日三夜，人子也要在地裡三日三夜。 41 在審判的日子，尼尼微人和這世代的人都要起來[a]，尼尼微人要定這個世代的罪，因為他們聽到約拿的宣告，就悔改了。看啊！這裡有一人比約拿更偉大。 42 在審判的日子，南方的女王和這世代的人都要起來，她要定這個世代的罪，因為她曾不遠千里來聽所羅門王的智言慧語。看啊！這裡有一人比所羅門王更偉大。
乘虛而入
43 「有一個污鬼離開了牠以前所附的人，在乾旱無水之地四處遊蕩，尋找安歇之處，卻沒有找到。 44 於是牠說，『我要回到老地方。』牠回去後，看見裡面空著，打掃得又乾淨又整齊， 45 就去帶來了七個比自己更邪惡的鬼一起住在那裡。那人的下場比從前更慘了。這個邪惡的世代也會這樣。」
真正的親屬
46 耶穌還在和眾人說話的時候，祂的母親和兄弟站在外面，想要跟祂說話。 47 有人告訴祂：「你的母親和兄弟在外面有話要跟你說。」
48 耶穌說：「誰是我的母親？誰是我的兄弟？」 49 祂伸出手來指著門徒說：「你們看！這些人就是我的母親和我的兄弟。 50 凡遵行我天父旨意的人都是我的弟兄、姊妹和母親。」

12 ¶ En aquel tiempo iba Jesús por los sembrados en día de sábado; y sus discípulos tenían hambre, y comenzaron a coger espigas, y a comer.
2 Y viéndolo los fariseos, le dijeron: He aquí tus discípulos hacen lo que no es lícito hacer en sábado.
3 Y él les dijo: ¿No habéis leído qué hizo David, teniendo él hambre y los que con él estaban;
4 cómo entró en la Casa de Dios, y comió los panes de la proposición, que no le era lícito comer, ni a los que estaban con él, sino sólo a los sacerdotes?
5 O ¿no habéis leído en la ley, que los sábados en el Templo los sacerdotes profanan el sábado, y son sin culpa?
6 Pues os digo que uno mayor que el Templo está aquí.
7 Mas si supieras qué es: Misericordia quiero y no sacrificio, no condenarías a los inocentes:
8 Porque Señor aún del sábado, es el Hijo del hombre.
9 Y partiendo de allí, vino a la sinagoga de ellos.
10 Y he aquí había allí un hombre que tenía una mano seca; y le preguntaron, diciendo: ¿Es lícito curar en sábado?, por acusarle.
11 Y él les dijo: ¿Qué hombre habrá de vosotros, que tenga una oveja, y si cayere ésta en una fosa en sábado, no le echa mano, y la levanta?
12 Pues ¿cuánto más vale un hombre que una oveja? Así que, lícito es en los sábados hacer bien.
13 Entonces dijo a aquel hombre: Extiende tu mano. Y él la extendió, y fue restituida sana como la otra.
14 ¶ Y salidos los fariseos, tuvieron consejo contra él para destruirle.
15 Mas sabiéndolo Jesús, se apartó de allí; y le siguieron grandes multitudes, y sanaba a todos.
16 Y él les encargaba rigurosamente que no le descubrieran;
17 para que se cumpliera lo que estaba dicho por el profeta Isaías, que dijo:
18 He aquí mi siervo, al cual he escogido; mi Amado, en el cual se agrada mi alma; pondré mi Espíritu sobre él y a los gentiles anunciará juicio.
19 No contenderá, ni voceará; ni nadie oirá en las calles su voz.
20 La caña cascada no quebrará, y el pábilo que humea no apagará, hasta que saque a victoria el juicio.
21 Y en su Nombre esperarán los gentiles.
22 ¶ Entonces fue traído a él un endemoniado, ciego y mudo, y le sanó; de tal manera, que el ciego y mudo hablaba y veía.
23 Y las multitudes estaban fuera de sí, y decían: ¿Es éste aquel Hijo de David?
24 Mas los fariseos, oyéndolo, decían: Este no echa fuera los demonios, sino por Beelzebú, príncipe de los demonios.
25 Y Jesús, como sabía los pensamientos de ellos, les dijo: Todo reino dividido contra sí mismo, es desolado; y toda ciudad o casa dividida contra sí misma, no permanecerá.
26 Y si Satanás echa fuera a Satanás, contra sí mismo está dividido; ¿cómo, pues, permanecerá su reino?
27 Y si yo por Beelzebú echo fuera los demonios, ¿vuestros hijos por quién los echan? Por tanto, ellos serán vuestros jueces.
28 Y si por el Espíritu de Dios yo echo fuera los demonios, ciertamente ha llegado a vosotros el Reino de Dios.
29 Porque, ¿cómo puede alguno entrar en la casa del hombre fuerte, y saquear sus alhajas, si primero no prendiere al hombre fuerte; y entonces saqueará su casa?
30 El que no es conmigo, contra mí es; y el que conmigo no coge, derrama.
31 Por tanto os digo: Todo pecado y blasfemia será perdonado a los hombres; mas la blasfemia contra el Espíritu no le será perdonada a los hombres.
32 Y cualquiera que hablare contra el Hijo del hombre, le será perdonado; mas cualquiera que hablare contra el Espíritu Santo, no le será perdonado, ni en este siglo, ni en el venidero.
33 O haced el árbol bueno, y su fruto bueno, o haced el árbol podrido, y su fruto podrido; porque por el fruto es conocido el árbol.
34 Generación de víboras, ¿cómo podéis hablar bien, siendo malos? Porque de la abundancia del corazón habla la boca.
35 El hombre bueno del buen tesoro del corazón saca buenas cosas; y el hombre malo del mal tesoro saca malas cosas.
36 Mas yo os digo, que toda palabra ociosa que hablaren los hombres, de ella darán cuenta en el día del juicio;
37 porque por tus palabras serás justificado, y por tus palabras serás condenado.
38 ¶ Entonces respondiendo algunos de los escribas y de los fariseos, diciendo: Maestro, deseamos ver de ti señal.
39 Y él respondió, y les dijo: La generación mala y adúltera demanda señal; mas señal no le será dada, sino la señal de Jonás profeta.
40 Porque como estuvo Jonás en el vientre de la ballena tres días y tres noches, así estará el Hijo del hombre en el corazón de la tierra tres días y tres noches.
41 Los hombres de Nínive se levantarán en el juicio con esta generación, y la condenarán; porque ellos se arrepintieron a la predicación de Jonás; y he aquí más que Jonás en este lugar.
42 La reina del austro se levantará en el juicio con esta generación, y la condenará; porque vino de los fines de la tierra para oír la sabiduría de Salomón; y he aquí más que Salomón en este lugar.
43 Cuando el espíritu inmundo ha salido del hombre, anda por lugares secos, buscando reposo, y no lo halla.
44 Entonces dice: Me volveré a mi casa de donde salí; y cuando viene, la halla desocupada, barrida y adornada.
45 Entonces va, y toma consigo otros siete espíritus peores que él, y entrados, moran allí; y son peores las postrimerías del tal hombre que las primeras. Así también acontecerá a esta generación mala.
46 ¶ Y estando él aún hablando a la multitud, he aquí su madre y sus hermanos estaban fuera, que le querían hablar.
47 Y le dijo uno: He aquí tu madre y tus hermanos están fuera, y te quieren hablar.
48 Y respondiendo él al que le decía esto, dijo: ¿Quién es mi madre y quiénes son mis hermanos?
49 Y extendiendo su mano hacia sus discípulos, dijo: He aquí mi madre y mis hermanos.
50 Porque todo aquel que hace la voluntad de mi Padre que está en los cielos, ese es mi hermano, y hermana, y madre.

Jesus Is Lord of the Sabbath(A)(B)
12 At that time Jesus went through the grainfields on the Sabbath. His disciples were hungry and began to pick some heads of grain(C) and eat them. 2 When the Pharisees saw this, they said to him, “Look! Your disciples are doing what is unlawful on the Sabbath.”(D)
3 He answered, “Haven’t you read what David did when he and his companions were hungry?(E) 4 He entered the house of God, and he and his companions ate the consecrated bread—which was not lawful for them to do, but only for the priests.(F) 5 Or haven’t you read in the Law that the priests on Sabbath duty in the temple desecrate the Sabbath(G) and yet are innocent? 6 I tell you that something greater than the temple is here.(H) 7 If you had known what these words mean, ‘I desire mercy, not sacrifice,’[a](I) you would not have condemned the innocent. 8 For the Son of Man(J) is Lord of the Sabbath.”
9 Going on from that place, he went into their synagogue, 10 and a man with a shriveled hand was there. Looking for a reason to bring charges against Jesus,(K) they asked him, “Is it lawful to heal on the Sabbath?”(L)
11 He said to them, “If any of you has a sheep and it falls into a pit on the Sabbath, will you not take hold of it and lift it out?(M) 12 How much more valuable is a person than a sheep!(N) Therefore it is lawful to do good on the Sabbath.”
13 Then he said to the man, “Stretch out your hand.” So he stretched it out and it was completely restored, just as sound as the other. 14 But the Pharisees went out and plotted how they might kill Jesus.(O)
God’s Chosen Servant
15 Aware of this, Jesus withdrew from that place. A large crowd followed him, and he healed all who were ill.(P) 16 He warned them not to tell others about him.(Q) 17 This was to fulfill(R) what was spoken through the prophet Isaiah:
18 “Here is my servant whom I have chosen,
the one I love, in whom I delight;(S)
I will put my Spirit on him,(T)
and he will proclaim justice to the nations.
19 He will not quarrel or cry out;
no one will hear his voice in the streets.
20 A bruised reed he will not break,
and a smoldering wick he will not snuff out,
till he has brought justice through to victory.
21 In his name the nations will put their hope.”[b](U)
Jesus and Beelzebul(V)
22 Then they brought him a demon-possessed man who was blind and mute, and Jesus healed him, so that he could both talk and see.(W) 23 All the people were astonished and said, “Could this be the Son of David?”(X)
24 But when the Pharisees heard this, they said, “It is only by Beelzebul,(Y) the prince of demons, that this fellow drives out demons.”(Z)
25 Jesus knew their thoughts(AA) and said to them, “Every kingdom divided against itself will be ruined, and every city or household divided against itself will not stand. 26 If Satan(AB) drives out Satan, he is divided against himself. How then can his kingdom stand? 27 And if I drive out demons by Beelzebul,(AC) by whom do your people(AD) drive them out? So then, they will be your judges. 28 But if it is by the Spirit of God that I drive out demons, then the kingdom of God(AE) has come upon you.
29 “Or again, how can anyone enter a strong man’s house and carry off his possessions unless he first ties up the strong man? Then he can plunder his house.
30 “Whoever is not with me is against me, and whoever does not gather with me scatters.(AF) 31 And so I tell you, every kind of sin and slander can be forgiven, but blasphemy against the Spirit will not be forgiven.(AG) 32 Anyone who speaks a word against the Son of Man will be forgiven, but anyone who speaks against the Holy Spirit will not be forgiven, either in this age(AH) or in the age to come.(AI)
33 “Make a tree good and its fruit will be good, or make a tree bad and its fruit will be bad, for a tree is recognized by its fruit.(AJ) 34 You brood of vipers,(AK) how can you who are evil say anything good? For the mouth speaks(AL) what the heart is full of. 35 A good man brings good things out of the good stored up in him, and an evil man brings evil things out of the evil stored up in him. 36 But I tell you that everyone will have to give account on the day of judgment for every empty word they have spoken. 37 For by your words you will be acquitted, and by your words you will be condemned.”(AM)
The Sign of Jonah(AN)(AO)
38 Then some of the Pharisees and teachers of the law said to him, “Teacher, we want to see a sign(AP) from you.”(AQ)
39 He answered, “A wicked and adulterous generation asks for a sign! But none will be given it except the sign of the prophet Jonah.(AR) 40 For as Jonah was three days and three nights in the belly of a huge fish,(AS) so the Son of Man(AT) will be three days and three nights in the heart of the earth.(AU) 41 The men of Nineveh(AV) will stand up at the judgment with this generation and condemn it; for they repented at the preaching of Jonah,(AW) and now something greater than Jonah is here. 42 The Queen of the South will rise at the judgment with this generation and condemn it; for she came(AX) from the ends of the earth to listen to Solomon’s wisdom, and now something greater than Solomon is here.
43 “When an impure spirit comes out of a person, it goes through arid places seeking rest and does not find it. 44 Then it says, ‘I will return to the house I left.’ When it arrives, it finds the house unoccupied, swept clean and put in order. 45 Then it goes and takes with it seven other spirits more wicked than itself, and they go in and live there. And the final condition of that person is worse than the first.(AY) That is how it will be with this wicked generation.”
Jesus’ Mother and Brothers(AZ)
46 While Jesus was still talking to the crowd, his mother(BA) and brothers(BB) stood outside, wanting to speak to him. 47 Someone told him, “Your mother and brothers are standing outside, wanting to speak to you.”
48 He replied to him, “Who is my mother, and who are my brothers?” 49 Pointing to his disciples, he said, “Here are my mother and my brothers. 50 For whoever does the will of my Father in heaven(BC) is my brother and sister and mother.”

12 How much then is a man better than a sheep? Wherefore it is lawful to do well on the sabbath days.
13 Then saith he to the man, Stretch forth thine hand. And he stretched it forth; and it was restored whole, like as the other.
14 Then the Pharisees went out, and held a council against him, how they might destroy him.
15 But when Jesus knew it, he withdrew himself from thence: and great multitudes followed him, and he healed them all;
16 And charged them that they should not make him known:
17 That it might be fulfilled which was spoken by Esaias the prophet, saying,
18 Behold my servant, whom I have chosen; my beloved, in whom my soul is well pleased: I will put my spirit upon him, and he shall shew judgment to the Gentiles.
19 He shall not strive, nor cry; neither shall any man hear his voice in the streets.
20 A bruised reed shall he not break, and smoking flax shall he not quench, till he send forth judgment unto victory.
21 And in his name shall the Gentiles trust.
22 Then was brought unto him one possessed with a devil, blind, and dumb: and he healed him, insomuch that the blind and dumb both spake and saw.
23 And all the people were amazed, and said, Is not this the son of David?
24 But when the Pharisees heard it, they said, This fellow doth not cast out devils, but by Beelzebub the prince of the devils.
25 And Jesus knew their thoughts, and said unto them, Every kingdom divided against itself is brought to desolation; and every city or house divided against itself shall not stand:
26 And if Satan cast out Satan, he is divided against himself; how shall then his kingdom stand?
27 And if I by Beelzebub cast out devils, by whom do your children cast them out? therefore they shall be your judges.
28 But if I cast out devils by the Spirit of God, then the kingdom of God is come unto you.
29 Or else how can one enter into a strong man's house, and spoil his goods, except he first bind the strong man? and then he will spoil his house.
30 He that is not with me is against me; and he that gathereth not with me scattereth abroad.
31 Wherefore I say unto you, All manner of sin and blasphemy shall be forgiven unto men: but the blasphemy against the Holy Ghost shall not be forgiven unto men.
32 And whosoever speaketh a word against the Son of man, it shall be forgiven him: but whosoever speaketh against the Holy Ghost, it shall not be forgiven him, neither in this world, neither in the world to come.
33 Either make the tree good, and his fruit good; or else make the tree corrupt, and his fruit corrupt: for the tree is known by his fruit.
34 O generation of vipers, how can ye, being evil, speak good things? for out of the abundance of the heart the mouth speaketh.
35 A good man out of the good treasure of the heart bringeth forth good things: and an evil man out of the evil treasure bringeth forth evil things.
36 But I say unto you, That every idle word that men shall speak, they shall give account thereof in the day of judgment.
37 For by thy words thou shalt be justified, and by thy words thou shalt be condemned.
38 Then certain of the scribes and of the Pharisees answered, saying, Master, we would see a sign from thee.
39 But he answered and said unto them, An evil and adulterous generation seeketh after a sign; and there shall no sign be given to it, but the sign of the prophet Jonas:
40 For as Jonas was three days and three nights in the whale's belly; so shall the Son of man be three days and three nights in the heart of the earth.
41 The men of Nineveh shall rise in judgment with this generation, and shall condemn it: because they repented at the preaching of Jonas; and, behold, a greater than Jonas is here.
42 The queen of the south shall rise up in the judgment with this generation, and shall condemn it: for she came from the uttermost parts of the earth to hear the wisdom of Solomon; and, behold, a greater than Solomon is here.
43 When the unclean spirit is gone out of a man, he walketh through dry places, seeking rest, and findeth none.
44 Then he saith, I will return into my house from whence I came out; and when he is come, he findeth it empty, swept, and garnished.
45 Then goeth he, and taketh with himself seven other spirits more wicked than himself, and they enter in and dwell there: and the last state of that man is worse than the first. Even so shall it be also unto this wicked generation.
46 While he yet talked to the people, behold, his mother and his brethren stood without, desiring to speak with him.
47 Then one said unto him, Behold, thy mother and thy brethren stand without, desiring to speak with thee.
48 But he answered and said unto him that told him, Who is my mother? and who are my brethren?
49 And he stretched forth his hand toward his disciples, and said, Behold my mother and my brethren!
50 For whosoever shall do the will of my Father which is in heaven, the same is my brother, and sister, and mother.
