Jesus Is Lord of the Sabbath(A)(B)
12 At that time Jesus went through the grainfields on the Sabbath. His disciples were hungry and began to pick some heads of grain(C) and eat them. 2 When the Pharisees saw this, they said to him, “Look! Your disciples are doing what is unlawful on the Sabbath.”(D)
3 He answered, “Haven’t you read what David did when he and his companions were hungry?(E) 4 He entered the house of God, and he and his companions ate the consecrated bread—which was not lawful for them to do, but only for the priests.(F) 5 Or haven’t you read in the Law that the priests on Sabbath duty in the temple desecrate the Sabbath(G) and yet are innocent? 6 I tell you that something greater than the temple is here.(H) 7 If you had known what these words mean, ‘I desire mercy, not sacrifice,’[a](I) you would not have condemned the innocent. 8 For the Son of Man(J) is Lord of the Sabbath.”
9 Going on from that place, he went into their synagogue, 10 and a man with a shriveled hand was there. Looking for a reason to bring charges against Jesus,(K) they asked him, “Is it lawful to heal on the Sabbath?”(L)
11 He said to them, “If any of you has a sheep and it falls into a pit on the Sabbath, will you not take hold of it and lift it out?(M) 12 How much more valuable is a person than a sheep!(N) Therefore it is lawful to do good on the Sabbath.”
13 Then he said to the man, “Stretch out your hand.” So he stretched it out and it was completely restored, just as sound as the other. 14 But the Pharisees went out and plotted how they might kill Jesus.(O)
God’s Chosen Servant
15 Aware of this, Jesus withdrew from that place. A large crowd followed him, and he healed all who were ill.(P) 16 He warned them not to tell others about him.(Q) 17 This was to fulfill(R) what was spoken through the prophet Isaiah:
18 “Here is my servant whom I have chosen,
the one I love, in whom I delight;(S)
I will put my Spirit on him,(T)
and he will proclaim justice to the nations.
19 He will not quarrel or cry out;
no one will hear his voice in the streets.
20 A bruised reed he will not break,
and a smoldering wick he will not snuff out,
till he has brought justice through to victory.
21 In his name the nations will put their hope.”[b](U)
Jesus and Beelzebul(V)
22 Then they brought him a demon-possessed man who was blind and mute, and Jesus healed him, so that he could both talk and see.(W) 23 All the people were astonished and said, “Could this be the Son of David?”(X)
24 But when the Pharisees heard this, they said, “It is only by Beelzebul,(Y) the prince of demons, that this fellow drives out demons.”(Z)
25 Jesus knew their thoughts(AA) and said to them, “Every kingdom divided against itself will be ruined, and every city or household divided against itself will not stand. 26 If Satan(AB) drives out Satan, he is divided against himself. How then can his kingdom stand? 27 And if I drive out demons by Beelzebul,(AC) by whom do your people(AD) drive them out? So then, they will be your judges. 28 But if it is by the Spirit of God that I drive out demons, then the kingdom of God(AE) has come upon you.
29 “Or again, how can anyone enter a strong man’s house and carry off his possessions unless he first ties up the strong man? Then he can plunder his house.
30 “Whoever is not with me is against me, and whoever does not gather with me scatters.(AF) 31 And so I tell you, every kind of sin and slander can be forgiven, but blasphemy against the Spirit will not be forgiven.(AG) 32 Anyone who speaks a word against the Son of Man will be forgiven, but anyone who speaks against the Holy Spirit will not be forgiven, either in this age(AH) or in the age to come.(AI)
33 “Make a tree good and its fruit will be good, or make a tree bad and its fruit will be bad, for a tree is recognized by its fruit.(AJ) 34 You brood of vipers,(AK) how can you who are evil say anything good? For the mouth speaks(AL) what the heart is full of. 35 A good man brings good things out of the good stored up in him, and an evil man brings evil things out of the evil stored up in him. 36 But I tell you that everyone will have to give account on the day of judgment for every empty word they have spoken. 37 For by your words you will be acquitted, and by your words you will be condemned.”(AM)
The Sign of Jonah(AN)(AO)
38 Then some of the Pharisees and teachers of the law said to him, “Teacher, we want to see a sign(AP) from you.”(AQ)
39 He answered, “A wicked and adulterous generation asks for a sign! But none will be given it except the sign of the prophet Jonah.(AR) 40 For as Jonah was three days and three nights in the belly of a huge fish,(AS) so the Son of Man(AT) will be three days and three nights in the heart of the earth.(AU) 41 The men of Nineveh(AV) will stand up at the judgment with this generation and condemn it; for they repented at the preaching of Jonah,(AW) and now something greater than Jonah is here. 42 The Queen of the South will rise at the judgment with this generation and condemn it; for she came(AX) from the ends of the earth to listen to Solomon’s wisdom, and now something greater than Solomon is here.
43 “When an impure spirit comes out of a person, it goes through arid places seeking rest and does not find it. 44 Then it says, ‘I will return to the house I left.’ When it arrives, it finds the house unoccupied, swept clean and put in order. 45 Then it goes and takes with it seven other spirits more wicked than itself, and they go in and live there. And the final condition of that person is worse than the first.(AY) That is how it will be with this wicked generation.”
Jesus’ Mother and Brothers(AZ)
46 While Jesus was still talking to the crowd, his mother(BA) and brothers(BB) stood outside, wanting to speak to him. 47 Someone told him, “Your mother and brothers are standing outside, wanting to speak to you.”
48 He replied to him, “Who is my mother, and who are my brothers?” 49 Pointing to his disciples, he said, “Here are my mother and my brothers. 50 For whoever does the will of my Father in heaven(BC) is my brother and sister and mother.”

12 At that time Jesus went on the sabbath day through the corn; and his disciples were an hungred, and began to pluck the ears of corn and to eat.
2 But when the Pharisees saw it, they said unto him, Behold, thy disciples do that which is not lawful to do upon the sabbath day.
3 But he said unto them, Have ye not read what David did, when he was an hungred, and they that were with him;
4 How he entered into the house of God, and did eat the shewbread, which was not lawful for him to eat, neither for them which were with him, but only for the priests?
5 Or have ye not read in the law, how that on the sabbath days the priests in the temple profane the sabbath, and are blameless?
6 But I say unto you, That in this place is one greater than the temple.
7 But if ye had known what this meaneth, I will have mercy, and not sacrifice, ye would not have condemned the guiltless.
8 For the Son of man is Lord even of the sabbath day.
9 And when he was departed thence, he went into their synagogue:
10 And, behold, there was a man which had his hand withered. And they asked him, saying, Is it lawful to heal on the sabbath days? that they might accuse him.
11 And he said unto them, What man shall there be among you, that shall have one sheep, and if it fall into a pit on the sabbath day, will he not lay hold on it, and lift it out?
12 How much then is a man better than a sheep? Wherefore it is lawful to do well on the sabbath days.
13 Then saith he to the man, Stretch forth thine hand. And he stretched it forth; and it was restored whole, like as the other.
14 Then the Pharisees went out, and held a council against him, how they might destroy him.

27 And if I by Beelzebub cast out devils, by whom do your children cast them out? therefore they shall be your judges.
28 But if I cast out devils by the Spirit of God, then the kingdom of God is come unto you.
29 Or else how can one enter into a strong man's house, and spoil his goods, except he first bind the strong man? and then he will spoil his house.

35 A good man out of the good treasure of the heart bringeth forth good things: and an evil man out of the evil treasure bringeth forth evil things.
36 But I say unto you, That every idle word that men shall speak, they shall give account thereof in the day of judgment.
37 For by thy words thou shalt be justified, and by thy words thou shalt be condemned.
38 Then certain of the scribes and of the Pharisees answered, saying, Master, we would see a sign from thee.
39 But he answered and said unto them, An evil and adulterous generation seeketh after a sign; and there shall no sign be given to it, but the sign of the prophet Jonas:

42 The queen of the south shall rise up in the judgment with this generation, and shall condemn it: for she came from the uttermost parts of the earth to hear the wisdom of Solomon; and, behold, a greater than Solomon is here.
43 When the unclean spirit is gone out of a man, he walketh through dry places, seeking rest, and findeth none.
44 Then he saith, I will return into my house from whence I came out; and when he is come, he findeth it empty, swept, and garnished.
45 Then goeth he, and taketh with himself seven other spirits more wicked than himself, and they enter in and dwell there: and the last state of that man is worse than the first. Even so shall it be also unto this wicked generation.
46 While he yet talked to the people, behold, his mother and his brethren stood without, desiring to speak with him.
47 Then one said unto him, Behold, thy mother and thy brethren stand without, desiring to speak with thee.
48 But he answered and said unto him that told him, Who is my mother? and who are my brethren?
49 And he stretched forth his hand toward his disciples, and said, Behold my mother and my brethren!
50 For whosoever shall do the will of my Father which is in heaven, the same is my brother, and sister, and mother.

Jesus Is Lord of the Sabbath Day
12 One Sabbath day Jesus walked through the grainfields. His disciples were hungry. So they began to break off some heads of grain and eat them. 2 The Pharisees saw this. They said to Jesus, “Look! It is against the Law to do this on the Sabbath day. But your disciples are doing it anyway!”
3 Jesus answered, “Haven’t you read about what David did? He and his men were hungry. 4 So he entered the house of God. He and his men ate the holy bread. Only priests were allowed to eat it. 5 Haven’t you read the Law? It tells how every Sabbath day the priests in the temple have to do their work on that day. But they are not considered guilty. 6 I tell you that something more important than the temple is here. 7 Scripture says, ‘I want mercy and not sacrifice.’ (Hosea 6:6) You don’t know what those words mean. If you did, you would not bring charges against those who are not guilty. 8 The Son of Man is Lord of the Sabbath day.”
9 Going on from that place, Jesus went into their synagogue. 10 A man with a weak and twisted hand was there. The Pharisees were trying to accuse Jesus of a crime. So they asked him, “Does the Law allow us to heal on the Sabbath day?”
11 He said to them, “What if one of your sheep falls into a pit on the Sabbath day? Won’t you take hold of it and lift it out? 12 A person is worth more than sheep! So the Law allows us to do good on the Sabbath day.”
13 Then Jesus said to the man, “Stretch out your hand.” So he stretched it out. It had been made as good as new. It was just as good as the other hand. 14 But the Pharisees went out and planned how to kill Jesus.
God’s Chosen Servant
15 Jesus knew all about the Pharisees’ plans. So he left that place. A large crowd followed him, and he healed all who were sick. 16 But he warned them not to tell other people about him. 17 This was to make what was spoken through the prophet Isaiah come true. It says,
18 “Here is my servant. I have chosen him.
He is the one I love. I am very pleased with him.
I will put my Spirit on him.
He will announce to the nations that everything will be made right.
19 He will not argue or cry out.
No one will hear his voice in the streets.
20 He will not break a bent twig.
He will not put out a dimly burning flame.
He will make right win over wrong.
21 The nations will put their hope in him.” (Isaiah 42:1–4)
Jesus and Beelzebul
22 A man controlled by demons was brought to Jesus. The man was blind and could not speak. Jesus healed him. Then the man could speak and see. 23 All the people were amazed. They said, “Could this be the Son of David?”
24 The Pharisees heard this. So they said, “This fellow drives out demons by the power of Beelzebul, the prince of demons.”
25 Jesus knew what they were thinking. So he said to them, “Every kingdom that fights against itself will be destroyed. Every city or family that is divided against itself will not stand. 26 If Satan drives out Satan, he fights against himself. Then how can his kingdom stand? 27 You say I drive out demons by the power of Beelzebul. Then by whose power do your people drive them out? So then, they will be your judges. 28 But suppose I drive out demons by the Spirit of God. Then the kingdom of God has come to you.
29 “Or think about this. How can you enter a strong man’s house and just take what the man owns? You must first tie him up. Then you can rob his house.
30 “Anyone who is not with me is against me. Anyone who does not gather sheep with me scatters them. 31 So here is what I tell you. Every kind of sin and every evil word spoken against God will be forgiven. But speaking evil things against the Holy Spirit will not be forgiven. 32 Anyone who speaks a word against the Son of Man will be forgiven. But anyone who speaks against the Holy Spirit will not be forgiven. A person like that won’t be forgiven either now or in days to come.
33 “If you make a tree good, its fruit will be good. If you make a tree bad, its fruit will be bad. You can tell a tree by its fruit. 34 You nest of poisonous snakes! How can you who are evil say anything good? Your mouths say everything that is in your hearts. 35 A good man says good things. These come from the good that is stored up inside him. An evil man says evil things. These come from the evil that is stored up inside him. 36 But here is what I tell you. On judgment day, everyone will have to account for every empty word they have spoken. 37 By your words you will be found guilty or not guilty.”
The Sign of Jonah
38 Some of the Pharisees and the teachers of the law came to Jesus. They said, “Teacher, we want to see a sign from you.”
39 He answered, “Evil and unfaithful people ask for a sign! But none will be given except the sign of the prophet Jonah. 40 Jonah was in the belly of a huge fish for three days and three nights. Something like that will happen to the Son of Man. He will spend three days and three nights in the grave. 41 The men of Nineveh will stand up on judgment day with the people now living. And the Ninevites will prove that these people are guilty. The men of Nineveh turned away from their sins when Jonah preached to them. And now something more important than Jonah is here. 42 The Queen of the South will stand up on judgment day with the people now living. And she will prove that they are guilty. She came from very far away to listen to Solomon’s wisdom. And now something more important than Solomon is here.
43 “What happens when an evil spirit comes out of a person? It goes through dry areas looking for a place to rest. But it doesn’t find it. 44 Then it says, ‘I will return to the house I left.’ When it arrives there, it finds the house empty. The house has been swept clean and put in order. 45 Then the evil spirit goes and takes with it seven other spirits more evil than itself. They go in and live there. That person is worse off than before. That is how it will be with the evil people of today.”

3 耶稣对他们说:“大卫和那些与他在一起的人饥饿时所做的事,你们难道没有读过吗? 4 他不是进了神的殿[a],和他们吃了[b]陈设饼吗?这饼是他和那些与他在一起的人不可以吃的,唯有祭司才可以吃。 5 再者,你们难道没有在律法书上读过:当安息日,祭司们在圣殿里触犯了安息日,也是无罪的吗? 6 但是我告诉你们:比圣殿更大的就在这里! 7 你们如果明白‘我要的是怜悯,而不是祭祀’[c]这话是什么意思,就不会把无罪的定为有罪了。 8 因为人子是安息日的主。”
治愈手萎缩的人
9 耶稣离开那地方,进了他们的会堂。 10 看哪,有个一只手枯萎的人。有些人就问耶稣,说:“在安息日使人痊愈,是否可以呢?”这是为要控告耶稣。
11 耶稣对他们说:“你们当中有哪一个人,如果他有一只羊在安息日掉进坑里,他不会抓住羊,把它拉上来呢? 12 人比羊重要多了!所以,在安息日做好事是可以的。”
13 于是耶稣对那个人说:“伸出你的手!”他一伸出来,手就复原了,和另一只一样健全。 14 那些法利赛人就出去,商议怎样对付耶稣,好除灭他。
神的仆人
15 耶稣知道了,就离开那里。有一大群人跟随他,耶稣使他们都痊愈了, 16 并且告诫他们不要把他传扬出去。 17 这是为要应验那藉着先知以赛亚所说的话:
18 “看哪,我所拣选的仆人,
我所爱的,心所喜悦的。
我要把我的灵赐给他,
他要向外邦人宣扬审判的事。
19 他不争竞、不喧嚷,
大街[d]上也没有人听见他的声音。
20 压伤的芦苇,他不折断;
将熄的灯火,他不吹灭,
直到他使公义得胜,
21 外邦人将要仰望他的名。”[e]
自相纷争
22 那时,一个有鬼魔附身、又瞎又哑的人被带到耶稣那里。耶稣使他痊愈,那哑巴就能说话,也能看见了。 23 众人都十分惊讶,说:“难道这个人就是‘大卫的后裔’?”
24 但法利赛人听见了却说:“这个人如果不是靠着鬼魔的王别西卜,就不能驱赶鬼魔!”
25 耶稣知道他们的想法,就对他们说:“任何一个国家,如果自相纷争就成为荒芜;任何一个城或家庭,如果自相纷争就站立不住。 26 如果撒旦驱赶撒旦,就是自相纷争,它的国怎么能站立得住呢? 27 如果我是靠别西卜驱赶鬼魔,那么,你们的子弟是靠谁驱赶鬼魔呢?为此,你们的子弟就将要成为你们的审判者了。 28 然而,如果我藉着神的灵驱赶鬼魔,那么,神的国就已经临到你们了。 29 人怎么能进入一个壮士的家抢夺他的东西呢?如果不先把那壮士捆住,就不能抢夺他的家。 30 不与我在一起的,就是在反对我;不与我一起收集的,就是在拆散。 31 为此,我告诉你们:人一切的罪和亵渎的话都能被赦免,但亵渎圣灵却不能被赦免。 32 凡是说话抵挡人子的,还能被赦免;但如果有人说话抵挡圣灵,无论在这世代,或在将要来的世代,都不能被赦免。
树与果
33 “你们让一棵树好,它的果子就好;你们让一棵树坏,它的果子就坏;这样,一棵树是凭着果子被认出来。 34 你们这些毒蛇的子孙!你们做为恶人,怎么能说出善的来呢?因为心里所充满的,口里就说出来。 35 好人从他心里[f]所存的善,发出善来;坏人从他心里所存的恶,发出恶来。 36 我告诉你们:人所说的每一句无益的话,在那审判的日子,句句都要做出交代, 37 因为凭你的话,你将被称为义;也凭你的话,你将被定有罪。”
约拿的神迹
38 当时,有一些经文士和法利赛人对耶稣说:“老师,我们希望你显个神迹给我们看。”
39 耶稣回答他们,说:“一个邪恶、淫乱的世代会寻求神迹;可是除了先知约拿的神迹以外,不会有神迹赐给它了。 40 就是说,正如约拿在大鱼的肚子里三天三夜,人子也照样将要在地心三天三夜。 41 在审判的时候,尼尼微人将要与这世代一起复活[g],并且要定这世代的罪,因为尼尼微人因着约拿的传道就悔改了。看,比约拿更大的就在这里! 42 在审判的时候,南方的女王[h]将要与这世代一起复活[i],并且要定这世代的罪,因为她从极远的地方来,要听所罗门智慧的话语。看,比所罗门更大的就在这里!
污灵返回
43 “有个污灵从一个人身上出来以后,走遍无水之地,寻找安歇的地方,却找不到, 44 就说:‘我要回到我离开的那屋里去。’于是它回去,发现那里空着,已被打扫干净,摆设整齐, 45 就去带了另外七个比自己更邪恶的灵,进去住在那里。那个人最后的情况就比先前更坏了。这邪恶的世代也将是这样。”
真正的亲属
46 耶稣正在向人群讲话,这时候他的母亲和弟弟们[j]站在外面,想要和他说话。 47 有人告诉他:“看,你母亲和弟弟们站在外面,想和你说话。”[k]
48 耶稣回答那对他说话的人,说:“我的母亲是谁呢?我的弟兄是谁呢?” 49 他就伸手指着他的门徒们,说:“看,我的母亲、我的弟兄! 50 因为凡是遵行我天父旨意的人,他才是我的弟兄、姐妹和母亲。”
