That Which Defiles(A)
7 The Pharisees and some of the teachers of the law who had come from Jerusalem gathered around Jesus 2 and saw some of his disciples eating food with hands that were defiled,(B) that is, unwashed. 3 (The Pharisees and all the Jews do not eat unless they give their hands a ceremonial washing, holding to the tradition of the elders.(C) 4 When they come from the marketplace they do not eat unless they wash. And they observe many other traditions, such as the washing of cups, pitchers and kettles.[a])(D)
5 So the Pharisees and teachers of the law asked Jesus, “Why don’t your disciples live according to the tradition of the elders(E) instead of eating their food with defiled hands?”
6 He replied, “Isaiah was right when he prophesied about you hypocrites; as it is written:
“‘These people honor me with their lips,
but their hearts are far from me.
7 They worship me in vain;
their teachings are merely human rules.’[b](F)
8 You have let go of the commands of God and are holding on to human traditions.”(G)
9 And he continued, “You have a fine way of setting aside the commands of God in order to observe[c] your own traditions!(H) 10 For Moses said, ‘Honor your father and mother,’[d](I) and, ‘Anyone who curses their father or mother is to be put to death.’[e](J) 11 But you say(K) that if anyone declares that what might have been used to help their father or mother is Corban (that is, devoted to God)— 12 then you no longer let them do anything for their father or mother. 13 Thus you nullify the word of God(L) by your tradition(M) that you have handed down. And you do many things like that.”
14 Again Jesus called the crowd to him and said, “Listen to me, everyone, and understand this. 15 Nothing outside a person can defile them by going into them. Rather, it is what comes out of a person that defiles them.” [16] [f]
17 After he had left the crowd and entered the house, his disciples asked him(N) about this parable. 18 “Are you so dull?” he asked. “Don’t you see that nothing that enters a person from the outside can defile them? 19 For it doesn’t go into their heart but into their stomach, and then out of the body.” (In saying this, Jesus declared all foods(O) clean.)(P)
20 He went on: “What comes out of a person is what defiles them. 21 For it is from within, out of a person’s heart, that evil thoughts come—sexual immorality, theft, murder, 22 adultery, greed,(Q) malice, deceit, lewdness, envy, slander, arrogance and folly. 23 All these evils come from inside and defile a person.”
Jesus Honors a Syrophoenician Woman’s Faith(R)
24 Jesus left that place and went to the vicinity of Tyre.[g](S) He entered a house and did not want anyone to know it; yet he could not keep his presence secret. 25 In fact, as soon as she heard about him, a woman whose little daughter was possessed by an impure spirit(T) came and fell at his feet. 26 The woman was a Greek, born in Syrian Phoenicia. She begged Jesus to drive the demon out of her daughter.
27 “First let the children eat all they want,” he told her, “for it is not right to take the children’s bread and toss it to the dogs.”
28 “Lord,” she replied, “even the dogs under the table eat the children’s crumbs.”
29 Then he told her, “For such a reply, you may go; the demon has left your daughter.”
30 She went home and found her child lying on the bed, and the demon gone.
Jesus Heals a Deaf and Mute Man(U)
31 Then Jesus left the vicinity of Tyre(V) and went through Sidon, down to the Sea of Galilee(W) and into the region of the Decapolis.[h](X) 32 There some people brought to him a man who was deaf and could hardly talk,(Y) and they begged Jesus to place his hand on(Z) him.
33 After he took him aside, away from the crowd, Jesus put his fingers into the man’s ears. Then he spit(AA) and touched the man’s tongue. 34 He looked up to heaven(AB) and with a deep sigh(AC) said to him, “Ephphatha!” (which means “Be opened!”). 35 At this, the man’s ears were opened, his tongue was loosened and he began to speak plainly.(AD)
36 Jesus commanded them not to tell anyone.(AE) But the more he did so, the more they kept talking about it. 37 People were overwhelmed with amazement. “He has done everything well,” they said. “He even makes the deaf hear and the mute speak.”

Die Pharisäer und die Überlieferung der Alten
7 Und es versammelten sich bei ihm die Pharisäer und etliche Schriftgelehrte, die von Jerusalem gekommen waren;
2 und als sie einige seiner Jünger mit unreinen, das heißt mit ungewaschenen Händen Brot essen sahen, tadelten sie es.
3 Denn die Pharisäer und alle Juden essen nicht, wenn sie sich nicht zuvor gründlich die Hände gewaschen haben, weil sie die Überlieferung der Alten halten.
4 Und wenn sie vom Markt kommen, essen sie nicht, ohne sich gewaschen zu haben. Und noch vieles andere haben sie zu halten angenommen, nämlich Waschungen von Bechern und Krügen und ehernem Geschirr und Polstern.
5 Daraufhin fragten ihn die Pharisäer und Schriftgelehrten: Warum wandeln deine Jünger nicht nach der Überlieferung der Alten, sondern essen das Brot mit ungewaschenen Händen?
6 Er aber antwortete und sprach zu ihnen: Trefflich hat Jesaja von euch Heuchlern geweissagt, wie geschrieben steht: »Dieses Volk ehrt mich mit den Lippen, doch ihr Herz ist fern von mir.
7 Vergeblich aber verehren sie mich, weil sie Lehren vortragen, die Menschengebote sind.«[a]
8 Denn ihr verlasst das Gebot Gottes und haltet die Überlieferung der Menschen ein, Waschungen von Krügen und Bechern; und viele andere ähnliche Dinge tut ihr.
9 Und er sprach zu ihnen: Trefflich verwerft ihr das Gebot Gottes, um eure Überlieferung festzuhalten.
10 Denn Mose hat gesagt: »Du sollst deinen Vater und deine Mutter ehren!«, und: »Wer Vater oder Mutter flucht, der soll des Todes sterben!«[b]
11 Ihr aber lehrt [so]: Wenn jemand zum Vater oder zur Mutter spricht: »Korban«, das heißt zur Weihegabe[c] ist bestimmt, was dir von mir zugutekommen sollte!,
12 dann gestattet ihr ihm auch fortan nicht mehr, irgendetwas für seinen Vater oder seine Mutter zu tun;
13 und so hebt ihr mit eurer Überlieferung, die ihr weitergegeben habt, das Wort Gottes auf; und viele ähnliche Dinge tut ihr.
Das Herz des Menschen: Quelle der Verunreinigung
14 Und er rief die ganze Volksmenge zu sich und sprach zu ihnen: Hört mir alle zu und versteht!
15 Nichts, was außerhalb des Menschen ist und in ihn hineinkommt, kann ihn verunreinigen; sondern was aus ihm herauskommt, das ist es, was den Menschen verunreinigt.
16 Wenn jemand Ohren hat zu hören, der höre!
17 Und als er von der Menge weg nach Hause gegangen war, fragten ihn seine Jünger über das Gleichnis.
18 Und er sprach zu ihnen: Seid auch ihr so unverständig? Begreift ihr nicht, dass alles, was von außen in den Menschen hineinkommt, ihn nicht verunreinigen kann?
19 Denn es kommt nicht in sein Herz, sondern in den Bauch und wird auf dem natürlichen Weg, der alle Speisen reinigt, ausgeschieden.
20 Er sprach aber: Was aus dem Menschen herauskommt, das verunreinigt den Menschen.
21 Denn von innen, aus dem Herzen des Menschen, kommen die bösen Gedanken hervor, Ehebruch, Unzucht, Mord,
22 Diebstahl, Geiz, Bosheit, Betrug, Zügellosigkeit, Neid, Lästerung, Hochmut, Unvernunft.
23 All dieses Böse kommt von innen heraus und verunreinigt den Menschen.
Jesus und die Frau aus Syrophönizien
24 Und er brach auf von dort und begab sich in die Gegend von Tyrus und Zidon und trat in das Haus, wollte aber nicht, dass es jemand erfuhr, und konnte doch nicht verborgen bleiben.
25 Denn eine Frau hatte von ihm gehört, deren Tochter einen unreinen Geist hatte, und sie kam und fiel ihm zu Füßen
26 — die Frau war aber eine Griechin, aus Syrophönizien gebürtig —, und sie bat ihn, den Dämon aus ihrer Tochter auszutreiben.
27 Aber Jesus sprach zu ihr: Lass zuvor die Kinder satt werden! Denn es ist nicht recht, dass man das Brot der Kinder nimmt und es den Hunden hinwirft!
28 Sie aber antwortete und sprach zu ihm: Ja, Herr; und doch essen die Hunde unter dem Tisch von den Brosamen der Kinder!
29 Und er sprach zu ihr: Um dieses Wortes willen geh hin; der Dämon ist aus deiner Tochter ausgefahren!
30 Und als sie in ihr Haus kam, fand sie, dass der Dämon ausgefahren war und die Tochter auf dem Bett lag.
Die Heilung eines Taubstummen
31 Und er verließ das Gebiet von Tyrus und Zidon wieder und begab sich zum See von Galiläa, mitten durch das Gebiet der Zehn Städte.
32 Und sie brachten einen Tauben zu ihm, der kaum reden konnte, und baten ihn, ihm die Hand aufzulegen.
33 Und er nahm ihn beiseite, weg von der Volksmenge, legte seine Finger in seine Ohren und berührte seine Zunge mit Speichel.
34 Dann blickte er zum Himmel auf, seufzte und sprach zu ihm: Ephata!, das heißt: Tu dich auf!
35 Und sogleich wurden seine Ohren aufgetan und das Band seiner Zunge gelöst, und er redete richtig.
36 Und er gebot ihnen, sie sollten es niemand sagen; aber je mehr er es ihnen gebot, desto mehr machten sie es bekannt.
37 Und sie erstaunten über die Maßen und sprachen: Er hat alles wohlgemacht! Die Tauben macht er hören und die Sprachlosen reden!

Lo que contamina al hombre
7 (A)Los fariseos, y algunos de los escribas que habían venido de Jerusalén(B), se reunieron alrededor de Él; 2 y vieron que algunos de Sus discípulos comían el pan con manos inmundas(C), es decir, sin lavar. 3 (Porque los fariseos y todos los judíos no comen a menos que se laven las manos cuidadosamente[a], observando así la tradición de los ancianos(D). 4 Cuando vuelven de la plaza, no comen a menos que se laven[b]; y hay muchas otras cosas que han recibido para observarlas, como el lavamiento[c] de los vasos(E), de los cántaros y de las vasijas de cobre.)
5 Así que los fariseos y los escribas le preguntaron*: «¿Por qué Tus discípulos no andan conforme a la tradición de los ancianos(F), sino que comen[d] con manos inmundas[e](G)?». 6 Jesús les respondió: «Bien profetizó Isaías de ustedes, hipócritas, como está escrito:
“Este pueblo con los labios me honra,
Pero su corazón está muy lejos de Mí(H) .
7 -”Mas en vano me rinden culto,
Enseñando como doctrinas preceptos de hombres(I) ”.
8 Dejando el mandamiento de Dios, ustedes se aferran a la tradición de los hombres(J) ».
9 También les decía: «Astutamente[f]ustedes violan el mandamiento de Dios para guardar su tradición(K). 10 Porque Moisés dijo: “Honra a tu padre y a tu madre(L)”; y: “El que hable mal de su padre o de su madre, que muera[g](M)”. 11 Pero ustedes dicen: “Si un hombre dice al padre o a la madre: ‘Cualquier cosa mía con que pudieras beneficiarte es corbán(N) (es decir, ofrenda[h] a Dios)’”, 12 ya no le dejan hacer nada en favor de su padre o de su madre; 13 invalidando así la palabra de Dios por la tradición(O)de ustedes, la cual han transmitido, y hacen muchas cosas semejantes a estas».
14 Llamando de nuevo a la multitud, Jesús les decía: «Escuchen todos lo que les digo y entiendan: 15 no hay nada fuera del hombre que al entrar en él pueda contaminarlo; sino que lo que sale de adentro del hombre es lo que contamina al hombre. 16 [i]Si alguno tiene oídos para oír, que oiga».
17 Cuando Jesús dejó a la multitud y entró en casa(P), Sus discípulos le preguntaron acerca de la parábola(Q). 18 «¿También ustedes son tan faltos de entendimiento?», les dijo*. «¿No comprenden que todo lo que de afuera entra al hombre no lo puede contaminar, 19 porque no entra en su corazón, sino en el estómago[j], y se elimina[k]?». Jesús declaró así limpios(R) todos los alimentos(S).
20 También decía: «Lo que sale del hombre, eso es lo que contamina al hombre(T). 21 Porque de adentro, del corazón de los hombres, salen los malos pensamientos, fornicaciones[l], robos, homicidios, adulterios, 22 avaricias, maldades, engaños, sensualidad, envidia[m](U), calumnia, orgullo[n]e insensatez. 23 Todas estas maldades de adentro salen, y contaminan al hombre».
La mujer sirofenicia
24 (V)Levantándose de allí, Jesús se fue a la región de Tiro[o](W), y entrando en una casa, no quería que nadie lo supiera, pero[p] no pudo pasar inadvertido; 25 sino que enseguida, al oír hablar de Él, una mujer cuya hijita tenía un espíritu inmundo, fue y se postró a Sus pies. 26 La mujer era gentil[q], sirofenicia de nacimiento; y le rogaba que echara al demonio fuera de su hija.
27 Y Jesús le decía: «Deja que primero los hijos se sacien, pues no está bien[r]tomar el pan de los hijos y echarlo a los perrillos». 28 «Es cierto, Señor», le dijo* ella; «pero aun los perrillos debajo de la mesa comen las migajas de los hijos». 29 Jesús le dijo: «Por esta respuesta[s], vete; ya el demonio ha salido de tu hija». 30 Cuando ella volvió a su casa, halló que la niña estaba acostada[t] en la cama, y que el demonio había salido.
Curación de un sordomudo
31 (X)Volviendo Jesús a salir de la región de Tiro(Y), pasó por Sidón(Z) y llegó al mar de Galilea(AA), atravesando la región de Decápolis(AB). 32 Y le trajeron* a uno que era sordo y tartamudo, y le rogaron* que pusiera la mano sobre él(AC). 33 Entonces Jesús, tomándolo aparte de la multitud, a solas, le metió los dedos en los oídos, y escupiendo(AD), le tocó la lengua con la saliva; 34 y levantando los ojos al cielo, suspiró profundamente(AE) y le dijo*: «¡Effatá!», esto es, «¡Abrete!».
35 Al instante se abrieron sus oídos, y desapareció[u] el impedimento[v] de su lengua, y hablaba con claridad. 36 Jesús les ordenó que a nadie se lo dijeran(AF); pero mientras más se lo ordenaba, tanto más ellos lo proclamaban(AG). 37 Y estaban asombrados en gran manera, y decían: «Todo lo ha hecho bien; aun a los sordos hace oír y a los mudos hablar».

7 Then came together unto him the Pharisees, and certain of the scribes, which came from Jerusalem.
2 And when they saw some of his disciples eat bread with defiled, that is to say, with unwashen, hands, they found fault.
3 For the Pharisees, and all the Jews, except they wash their hands oft, eat not, holding the tradition of the elders.
4 And when they come from the market, except they wash, they eat not. And many other things there be, which they have received to hold, as the washing of cups, and pots, brasen vessels, and of tables.
5 Then the Pharisees and scribes asked him, Why walk not thy disciples according to the tradition of the elders, but eat bread with unwashen hands?
6 He answered and said unto them, Well hath Esaias prophesied of you hypocrites, as it is written, This people honoureth me with their lips, but their heart is far from me.
7 Howbeit in vain do they worship me, teaching for doctrines the commandments of men.
8 For laying aside the commandment of God, ye hold the tradition of men, as the washing of pots and cups: and many other such like things ye do.
9 And he said unto them, Full well ye reject the commandment of God, that ye may keep your own tradition.
10 For Moses said, Honour thy father and thy mother; and, Whoso curseth father or mother, let him die the death:
11 But ye say, If a man shall say to his father or mother, It is Corban, that is to say, a gift, by whatsoever thou mightest be profited by me; he shall be free.
12 And ye suffer him no more to do ought for his father or his mother;
13 Making the word of God of none effect through your tradition, which ye have delivered: and many such like things do ye.
14 And when he had called all the people unto him, he said unto them, Hearken unto me every one of you, and understand:
15 There is nothing from without a man, that entering into him can defile him: but the things which come out of him, those are they that defile the man.
16 If any man have ears to hear, let him hear.
17 And when he was entered into the house from the people, his disciples asked him concerning the parable.
18 And he saith unto them, Are ye so without understanding also? Do ye not perceive, that whatsoever thing from without entereth into the man, it cannot defile him;
19 Because it entereth not into his heart, but into the belly, and goeth out into the draught, purging all meats?
20 And he said, That which cometh out of the man, that defileth the man.
21 For from within, out of the heart of men, proceed evil thoughts, adulteries, fornications, murders,
22 Thefts, covetousness, wickedness, deceit, lasciviousness, an evil eye, blasphemy, pride, foolishness:
23 All these evil things come from within, and defile the man.
24 And from thence he arose, and went into the borders of Tyre and Sidon, and entered into an house, and would have no man know it: but he could not be hid.
25 For a certain woman, whose young daughter had an unclean spirit, heard of him, and came and fell at his feet:
26 The woman was a Greek, a Syrophenician by nation; and she besought him that he would cast forth the devil out of her daughter.
27 But Jesus said unto her, Let the children first be filled: for it is not meet to take the children's bread, and to cast it unto the dogs.
28 And she answered and said unto him, Yes, Lord: yet the dogs under the table eat of the children's crumbs.
29 And he said unto her, For this saying go thy way; the devil is gone out of thy daughter.
30 And when she was come to her house, she found the devil gone out, and her daughter laid upon the bed.
31 And again, departing from the coasts of Tyre and Sidon, he came unto the sea of Galilee, through the midst of the coasts of Decapolis.
32 And they bring unto him one that was deaf, and had an impediment in his speech; and they beseech him to put his hand upon him.
33 And he took him aside from the multitude, and put his fingers into his ears, and he spit, and touched his tongue;
34 And looking up to heaven, he sighed, and saith unto him, Ephphatha, that is, Be opened.
35 And straightway his ears were opened, and the string of his tongue was loosed, and he spake plain.
36 And he charged them that they should tell no man: but the more he charged them, so much the more a great deal they published it;
37 And were beyond measure astonished, saying, He hath done all things well: he maketh both the deaf to hear, and the dumb to speak.
