Worldwide English (New Testament)
4 Jesus began to teach people by the sea again. Many people came to him. So he got in a boat on the sea and sat down. The people were by the sea on the land.
2 He told the people stories and taught them many things.
3 He said, `Listen. A man went out to sow some seed.
4 As he sowed it, some of the seed fell on the road. Birds came and ate the seed.
5 Some seed fell on the stony ground. Not much ground covered the stones. The seed started to grow right away because it was not deep in the ground.
6 When the sun began to shine, it was too hot for the new plants. They died because they had no roots.
7 Some seed fell among the weeds. The weeds grew up and made the new plants die. So no seeds grew on them.
8 But some seed fell on good ground. That seed grew and the plants gave more seed. Some plants gave thirty seeds. Some gave sixty. And some gave a hundred.'
9 Jesus said to them, `Everyone who has ears to hear, listen!'
10 Later, Jesus was alone. Then the twelve disciples and the other people who were there asked him about the stories.
11 He said to them, `You can learn the secret things about the kingdom of God. But we must use stories to tell the other people.
12 `They may look and look, but they will not see. They may listen and listen, but they will not understand. If they did understand, they would turn back to God and he would forgive them for the wrong things they have done.'
13 Jesus said also, `Do you not understand this story? How then are you going to understand all the stories?
14 The man who sows the seed tells God's message.
15 Those beside the road are like people who hear the message. But as soon as they hear it, Satan comes and takes it out of their hearts
16 The seed that fell on the stony ground is the same. It is like people who hear the message and as soon as they hear it they are very glad.
17 They believe it for a short time. When trouble or a hard time comes because of the message, they stop believing.
18 The seed that fell among the weeds is like people who hear the message.
19 But they think about the things of this world. They want to get money and other things to be happy. These things push the message out of their hearts. No good comes from it.
20 But some seed fell on good ground. That is like people who hear the message and understand it. Much good comes from it. Some people are like the seed that made thirty seeds. Some people are like the seed that gave sixty. Some people are like the seed that gave a hundred.'
21 Then Jesus said to them, `People do not bring a light and put it under a basket or under a bed. But they put it on the place for a lamp.
22 Everything that is hidden will be seen. Everything that is secret will be known and come out to be seen.
23 Everyone who has ears to hear, listen!'
24 And Jesus said, `Take care how you listen. How much you give to others is how much will be given to you. You who obey God will get more than you give.
25 Anyone who has some will get more. But he who does not have anything, even the little that he has will be taken away from him.'
26 And Jesus said, `The kingdom of God is like this. A man sows some seed in the ground.
27 Then he goes on just as he did before. He sleeps at night and wakes up in the morning. The seed begins to grow but he doesn't know what makes it grow.
28 The ground itself makes the seed grow. First the plant comes up. Then it begins to have seed of its own. After a while the harvest is ready.
29 When the harvest is really ready, he cuts it right away because the harvest time has come.'
30 And Jesus said, `What is the kingdom of God like? What shall I say it is like?
31 It is like this. A mustard seed is the smallest seed that is ever planted in the earth.
32 But the plant that grows from that seed is bigger than any other plant. It puts out very big branches. The birds come and live in its branches.'
33 Jesus told the people many stories like this. He told them as much of God's words as they were able to understand.
34 He did not tell them anything without a story. When he was alone with his disciples, he told them the meaning of the stories.
35 In the evening of that day, Jesus said to his disciples, `Let us cross over to the other side of the sea.'
36 The disciples left the people and took Jesus away in the boat he was in. Other little boats were with him.
37 A very strong wind began to blow. Water came in the boat. It began to fill up with water.
38 Jesus was in the back end of the boat, sleeping with his head on a pillow. The disciples woke him up. `Master,' they shouted. `We will die! Do you not care?'
39 Then Jesus got up. He said to the wind and the sea, `Stop!' The wind stopped. Then all was quiet.
40 Then he said to the disciples, `Why do you fear? Do you not believe in God?'
41 The disciples were surprised. They said to each other, `What kind of man is this? Even the wind and the sea obey him.'

બી વાવનાર એક ખેડૂત વિષેની વાર્તા

4 બીજી એક વખત ઈસુએ સરોવરની બાજુમાં ઉપદેશ શરૂ કર્યો. ઘણા બધા લોકો ઈસુની આજુબાજુ ભેગા થયા. તેથી તે હોડીમાં ચઢ્યો અને ત્યાં બેઠો. બધા જ લોકો પાણીની બાાજુમાં સમુદ્રને કાંઠે રહ્યાં. 2 ઈસુએ હોડીમાંથી જ લોકોને ઉપદેશ આપ્યો. ઈસુએ તેઓને શીખવવા માટે ઘણી વાર્તાઓનો ઉપયોગ કર્યો. તેણે કહ્યું:
3 “ધ્યાનથી સાંભળો! એક ખેડૂત તેના બી વાવવા માટે બહાર નીકળ્યો. 4 જ્યારે ખેડૂત વાવતો હતો, કેટલાંક બી રસ્તાની બાજુએ પડ્યા. પક્ષીઓ આવ્યાં અને પેલાં બધા બી ખાઈ ગયાં. 5 કેટલાંક બી ખડકાળ જમીન પર પડ્યાં. જ્યાં પૂરતી માટી ન હતી. ત્યાં બી ઘણા ઝડપથી ઊગ્યાં કારણ કે જમીન બહુ ઊંડી ન હતી. 6 પણ સુર્ય ઊગ્યો ત્યારે તે છોડ કરમાઇ ગયો હતો. તે અંતે સુકાઇ ગયો. કારણ કે તેને ઊંડા મૂળિયાં ન હતા. 7 બીજા કેટલાંક બી કાંટાળા જાળાંમા પડ્યાં. કાંટાના જાળાંએ સારા છોડને ઉગતાં અટકાવ્યા. તેથી તે છોડોએ ફળ ન આપ્યું. 8 કેટલાંક બીજા બી સારી જમાન પર પડ્યાં. સારી જમીનમાં તે બી ઊગવા માંડ્યાં. તે ઊગ્યા અને ફળ આપ્યાં. કેટલાક છોડે ત્રીસગણાં, કેટલાક છોડોએ સાઠગણાં અને કેટલાક છોડોએ સોગણાં ફળ આપ્યાં.”
9 પછી ઈસુએ કહ્યું, “તમે લોકો જે મને સાંભળો છો, ધ્યાનથી સાંભળો!”
ઈસુ કહે છે તે શા માટે વાર્તાઓનો ઉપયોગ કરે છે

10 જ્યારે ઈસુ એકાંતમાં હતો ત્યારે બાર પ્રેરિતો અને ઈસુના બીજા શિષ્યોએ તેને વાર્તાઓ વિષે પૂછયું.
11 ઈસુએ કહ્યું, “તમે ફક્ત દેવના રાજ્ય વિષેનું સાચું રહસ્ય સમજી શકો. પણ બીજા લોકોનું હું બધી વસ્તુઓ વાર્તાઓનો ઉપયોગ કરી કહું છું. 12 હું આ કરું છું તેથી,
‘તેઓ જોશે અને જોયા કરશે પરંતુ કદાપિ જોઈ શકશે નહિ;
તેઓ સાંભળશે અને સાંભળ્યાં કરશે, પણ કદાપિ સમજશે નહિ.
જો તેઓએ જોયું હોય અને સમજ્યા હોય તો, તેઓ પસ્તાવો કરે, ને તેઓને (પાપની) માફી મળે.’(A)”
બી વાવનારની વાર્તા ઈસુ સમજાવે છે

13 પછી ઈસુએ શિષ્યોને કહ્યું, “તમે આ વાર્તા સમજ્યા? જો તમે ના સમજ્યા હોય તો પછી તમે બીજી કઈ વાર્તા સમજી શકશો? 14 ખેડૂત એ એક વ્યક્તિ છે જે લોકોમાં દેવના વચનને વાવે છે. 15 કેટલીક વાર તે વચન રસ્તા પર પડે છે. આ કેટલાક લોકો જેવું છે. તે લોકો દેવનું વચન સાંભળે છે. પરંતુ શેતાન આવે છે અને વચન લઈ જાય છે જે તેઓનામાં વવાયેલું હતું.
16 “બીજા લોકો પથ્થરવાળી જમીનમાં વાવેલાં બીજ જેવા છે. તેઓ વચન સાંભળે છે અને તેનો આનંદથી તરત જ સ્વીકાર કરે છે. 17 પણ આ લોકો વચનને તેમના જીવનમાં ઊંડા ઉતરવા દેતા નથી. તેઓ આ વચનને ફક્ત થોડી વાર માટે રાખે છે. જ્યારે મુશ્કેલી અથવા સતાવણી વચનને કારણે આવે છે ત્યારે તેઓ તરત ઠોકર ખાય છે.
18 “બીજા કેટલાંક લોકો કાંટાળા જાળામાં વાવેલાં બીજ જેવા છે. આ લોકો વચન સાંભળે છે. 19 પણ પછી તેમના જીવનમાં આવી બાબતો આવે છે. જેવી કે આ જીવનની ચિંતાઓ, ખૂબ પૈસાનો ખોટો મોહ, અને બીજી બધીજ જાતની વસ્તુઓની કામના. આ વસ્તુઓ વચનના વિકાસને અટકાવે છે. તેથી તે વચન તે લોકોના જીવનમાં ફળદાયી થતું નથી.
20 “બીજા લોકો સારી જમાનમાં વાવેલાં બીજ જેવા છે. તેઓ ઉપદેશ સાંભળે છે, સ્વીકારે છે અને ફળ આપે છે. કેટલીક વાર ત્રીસગણાં, કેટલીક વાર સાઠગણાં અને કેટલીક વાર સોગણાં ફળ આપે છે.”
તમારી પાસે જે હોય તેનો ઉપયોગ કરવો જોઈએ
(લૂ. 8:16-18)
21 પછી ઈસુએ તેઓને કહ્યું, “શું માપ તળે અથવા ખાટલા તળે મૂકવા સારું કોઈ દીવો રાખે છે? શું દીવી પર મૂકવા નહિ? 22 જે બધું સંતાડેલું છે તે સ્પષ્ટ થશે. દરેક ગુપ્ત વસ્તુ પ્રગટ કરવામાં આવશે. 23 તમે લોકો જે મને સાંભળો છો, ધ્યાનથી સાંભળો! 24 તમે જે સાંભળો તે વિષે કાળજીપૂર્વક વિચારો. તમે જે માપથી આપશો તે માપથી દેવ તમને આપશે. પણ દેવ તમને, તમે જેટલું આપશો તેનાથી વધુ આપશે. 25 જે વ્યક્તિ પાસે કાંઇક છે તે વધારે પ્રાપ્ત કરશે. પણ જે કઈ થોડું છે તે પણ ગુમાવશે.”
ઈસુની બીજની વાર્તાનો ઉપયોગ
26 પછી ઈસુએ કહ્યું, “દેવનું રાજ્ય એક માણસ જમીનમાં બીજ વાવે છે તેના જેવું છે. 27 બીજ ઊગવાની શરૂઆત કરે છે. તે રાત અને દિવસ ઊગે છે. તે મહત્વનું નથી કે માણસ ઊંઘે છે કે જાગે છે, છતા પણ બીજ તો ઊગે છે; પણ તે શી રીતે ઊગયું તે જાણતો નથી. 28 કોઈ પણ જાતની મદદ વિના ભોંય અનાજ ઉગાડે છે. પ્રથમ છોડ ઊગે છે. પછી કણસલું અને ત્યાર બાદ કણસલામાં બધા દાણા ભરાય છે. 29 જ્યારે દાણા તૈયાર થાય છે, ત્યારે માણસ તેને કાપે છે. આ સમય કાપણીનો છે.”
દેવનું રાજ્ય રાઈના દાણા જેવું છે
(માથ. 13:31-32, 34-35; લૂ. 13:18-19)
30 પછી ઈસુએ કહ્યું, “દેવનું રાજ્ય શાના જેવું છે એ તમને બતાવવા હું શાનો ઉપયોગ કરી શકું? તે સમજાવવા માટે હું વાર્તાનો ઉપયોગ કરી શકું? 31 દેવનું રાજ્ય એક રાઈના બી જેવું છે જે તમે જમીનમાં વાવો છે. તે સર્વ બી કરતાં નાનામાં નાનું બી છે. 32 પણ જ્યારે તમે આ બી વાવો છો, તે ઊગે છે અને તમારા બાગના બધા જ છોડવાઓમાં સૌથી મોટો છોડ બને છે. તેને ખૂબ મોટી ડાળીઓ હોય છે. ત્યાં આકાશનાં પક્ષીઓ આવી શકે છે અને માળાઓ બનાવી શકે છે અને સૂર્યથી રક્ષણ મેળવી શકે છે.”
33 ઈસુએ તેમને શીખવવા માટે આવી ઘણી વાર્તાઓનો ઉપયોગ કર્યો, જેથી તેઓ દરેક બાબત સમજી શકે. 34 ઈસુ હંમેશા લોકોને શીખવવા માટે વાર્તાઓનો ઉપયોગ કરતો. પણ જ્યારે ઈસુ અને તેના શ્ષ્યો એકલા ભેગા થતા ત્યારે ઈસુ તેઓને દરેક વાતોનો ખુલાસો કરતો.
ઈસુનું તોફાનને અટકાવવું

35 તે દિવસે સાંજે ઈસુએ તેના શિષ્યોને કહ્યું, “ચાલો, આપણે સરોવરને પેલે પાર જઇએ.” 36 ઈસુ અને શિષ્યોએ લોકોને ત્યાં છોડ્યા. ઈસુ જેમાં બેઠો હતો તે જ હોડીમાં તેઓ ગયા. ત્યાં તેની સાથે બીજી હોડીઓ પણ હતી. 37 સરોવરમાં પવનનું મોટું તોફાન થયું. મોજાઓ ઉપરની બાજુઓ પર અને હોડીની અંદર આવવા લાગ્યાં. હોડી લગભગ પાણીથી ભરાઇ ગઈ હતી. 38 ઈસુ હોડીના પાછલા ભાગમા ઓસીકા પર તેનું માથું ટેકવીને ઊંઘતો હતો. શિષ્યો તેની પાસે ગયા અને તેને જગાડીને કહ્યું, “ઉપદેશક, તને અમારી ચિંતા નથી? આપણે ડૂબી જઈશું!”
39 ઈસુ ઊભો થયો અને પવનને અને મોંજાઓને અટકી જવા આજ્ઞા કરી, ઈસુએ કહ્યું, “છાનો રહે, શાંત થા!” પછી પવન અટકી ગયો અને સરોવર શાંત થઈ ગયું.
40 ઈસુએ તેના શિષ્યોને કહ્યું, “તમે શા માટે ડરો છો? શું તમને હજુયે વિશ્વાસ નથી?”
41 શિષ્યો ઘણા ડરી ગયા હતા અને એકબીજાને પૂછતા હતા કે, “આ માણસ કેવા પ્રકારનો છે કે પવન તથા સમુદ્ર પણ તેનું માને છે?”

The Parable of the Sower(A)
4 And (B)again He began to teach by the sea. And a great multitude was gathered to Him, so that He got into a boat and sat in it on the sea; and the whole multitude was on the land facing the sea. 2 Then He taught them many things by parables, (C)and said to them in His teaching:
3 “Listen! Behold, a sower went out to sow. 4 And it happened, as he sowed, that some seed fell by the wayside; and the birds [a]of the air came and devoured it. 5 Some fell on stony ground, where it did not have much earth; and immediately it sprang up because it had no depth of earth. 6 But when the sun was up it was scorched, and because it had no root it withered away. 7 And some seed fell among thorns; and the thorns grew up and choked it, and it yielded no [b]crop. 8 But other seed fell on good ground and yielded a crop that sprang up, increased and produced: some thirtyfold, some sixty, and some a hundred.”
9 And He said [c]to them, “He who has ears to hear, let him hear!”
The Purpose of Parables(D)
10 (E)But when He was alone, those around Him with the twelve asked Him about the parable. 11 And He said to them, “To you it has been given to (F)know the [d]mystery of the kingdom of God; but to (G)those who are outside, all things come in parables, 12 so that
(H)‘Seeing they may see and not perceive,
And hearing they may hear and not understand;
Lest they should turn,
And their sins be forgiven them.’ ”
The Parable of the Sower Explained(I)
13 And He said to them, “Do you not understand this parable? How then will you understand all the parables? 14 (J)The sower sows the word. 15 And these are the ones by the wayside where the word is sown. When they hear, Satan comes immediately and takes away the word that was sown in their hearts. 16 These likewise are the ones sown on stony ground who, when they hear the word, immediately receive it with gladness; 17 and they have no root in themselves, and so endure only for a time. Afterward, when tribulation or persecution arises for the word’s sake, immediately they stumble. 18 Now these are the ones sown among thorns; they are the ones who hear the word, 19 and the (K)cares of this world, (L)the deceitfulness of riches, and the desires for other things entering in choke the word, and it becomes unfruitful. 20 But these are the ones sown on good ground, those who hear the word, [e]accept it, and bear (M)fruit: some thirtyfold, some sixty, and some a hundred.”
Light Under a Basket(N)
21 (O)Also He said to them, “Is a lamp brought to be put under a basket or under a bed? Is it not to be set on a lampstand? 22 (P)For there is nothing hidden which will not be revealed, nor has anything been kept secret but that it should come to light. 23 (Q)If anyone has ears to hear, let him hear.”
24 Then He said to them, “Take heed what you hear. (R)With the same measure you use, it will be measured to you; and to you who hear, more will be given. 25 (S)For whoever has, to him more will be given; but whoever does not have, even what he has will be taken away from him.”
The Parable of the Growing Seed
26 And He said, (T)“The kingdom of God is as if a man should [f]scatter seed on the ground, 27 and should sleep by night and rise by day, and the seed should sprout and (U)grow, he himself does not know how. 28 For the earth (V)yields crops by itself: first the blade, then the head, after that the full grain in the head. 29 But when the grain ripens, immediately (W)he puts in the sickle, because the harvest has come.”
The Parable of the Mustard Seed(X)
30 Then He said, (Y)“To what shall we liken the kingdom of God? Or with what parable shall we picture it? 31 It is like a mustard seed which, when it is sown on the ground, is smaller than all the seeds on earth; 32 but when it is sown, it grows up and becomes greater than all herbs, and shoots out large branches, so that the birds of the air may nest under its shade.”
Jesus’ Use of Parables
33 (Z)And with many such parables He spoke the word to them as they were able to hear it. 34 But without a parable He did not speak to them. And when they were alone, (AA)He explained all things to His disciples.
Wind and Wave Obey Jesus(AB)
35 (AC)On the same day, when evening had come, He said to them, “Let us cross over to the other side.” 36 Now when they had left the multitude, they took Him along in the boat as He was. And other little boats were also with Him. 37 And a great windstorm arose, and the waves beat into the boat, so that it was already filling. 38 But He was in the stern, asleep on a pillow. And they awoke Him and said to Him, (AD)“Teacher, (AE)do You not care that we are perishing?”
39 Then He arose and (AF)rebuked the wind, and said to the sea, (AG)“Peace,[g] be still!” And the wind ceased and there was a great calm. 40 But He said to them, “Why are you so fearful? (AH)How[h] is it that you have no faith?” 41 And they feared exceedingly, and said to one another, “Who can this be, that even the wind and the sea obey Him!”
