¹⁴ Soldiers also asked him, “And we, ^(A)what shall we do?” And he said to them, ^(B)“Do not extort money from anyone by threats or by false accusation, and be content with your ^(C)wages.”

^16 (A)“You shall not bear false witness against your neighbor.

⁵ Keep your life ^(A)free from love of money, and ^(B)be content with what you have, for he has said, ^(C)“I will never leave you nor forsake you.” ⁶ So we can confidently say,

¹¹ Not that I am speaking of being in need, for I have learned in whatever situation I am to be ^(A)content.

^11 (A)“You shall not steal; ^(B)you shall not deal falsely; you shall not lie to one another.

23 ^(A)“You shall not spread a false report. You shall not join hands with a wicked man to be a ^(B)malicious witness.

⁸ But ^(A)if we have food and clothing, with these we will be content. ⁹ But ^(B)those who desire to be rich fall into temptation, ^(C)into a snare, into many senseless and harmful desires that ^(D)plunge people into ruin and destruction. ¹⁰ For the love of money is a root of ^(E)all kinds of evils. It is through this craving that some have wandered away from the faith and pierced themselves with many pangs.

⁹ For the commandments, ^(A)“You shall not commit adultery, You shall not murder, You shall not steal, You shall not covet,” and any other commandment, are summed up in this word: ^(B)“You shall love your neighbor as yourself.” ¹⁰ Love does no wrong to a neighbor; therefore ^(C)love is the fulfilling of the law.

⁸ And Zacchaeus stood and said to the Lord, “Behold, Lord, the half of my goods ^(A)I give to the poor. And if I have ^(B)defrauded anyone of anything, I restore it ^(C)fourfold.”
