22 Now the feast of unleavened bread drew nigh, which is called the Passover.
2 And the chief priests and scribes sought how they might kill him; for they feared the people.
3 Then entered Satan into Judas surnamed Iscariot, being of the number of the twelve.
4 And he went his way, and communed with the chief priests and captains, how he might betray him unto them.
5 And they were glad, and covenanted to give him money.
6 And he promised, and sought opportunity to betray him unto them in the absence of the multitude.
7 Then came the day of unleavened bread, when the passover must be killed.
8 And he sent Peter and John, saying, Go and prepare us the passover, that we may eat.
9 And they said unto him, Where wilt thou that we prepare?
10 And he said unto them, Behold, when ye are entered into the city, there shall a man meet you, bearing a pitcher of water; follow him into the house where he entereth in.
11 And ye shall say unto the goodman of the house, The Master saith unto thee, Where is the guestchamber, where I shall eat the passover with my disciples?
12 And he shall shew you a large upper room furnished: there make ready.
13 And they went, and found as he had said unto them: and they made ready the passover.
14 And when the hour was come, he sat down, and the twelve apostles with him.
15 And he said unto them, With desire I have desired to eat this passover with you before I suffer:
16 For I say unto you, I will not any more eat thereof, until it be fulfilled in the kingdom of God.
17 And he took the cup, and gave thanks, and said, Take this, and divide it among yourselves:
18 For I say unto you, I will not drink of the fruit of the vine, until the kingdom of God shall come.
19 And he took bread, and gave thanks, and brake it, and gave unto them, saying, This is my body which is given for you: this do in remembrance of me.
20 Likewise also the cup after supper, saying, This cup is the new testament in my blood, which is shed for you.
21 But, behold, the hand of him that betrayeth me is with me on the table.
22 And truly the Son of man goeth, as it was determined: but woe unto that man by whom he is betrayed!
23 And they began to enquire among themselves, which of them it was that should do this thing.
24 And there was also a strife among them, which of them should be accounted the greatest.
25 And he said unto them, The kings of the Gentiles exercise lordship over them; and they that exercise authority upon them are called benefactors.
26 But ye shall not be so: but he that is greatest among you, let him be as the younger; and he that is chief, as he that doth serve.
27 For whether is greater, he that sitteth at meat, or he that serveth? is not he that sitteth at meat? but I am among you as he that serveth.
28 Ye are they which have continued with me in my temptations.
29 And I appoint unto you a kingdom, as my Father hath appointed unto me;
30 That ye may eat and drink at my table in my kingdom, and sit on thrones judging the twelve tribes of Israel.
31 And the Lord said, Simon, Simon, behold, Satan hath desired to have you, that he may sift you as wheat:
32 But I have prayed for thee, that thy faith fail not: and when thou art converted, strengthen thy brethren.
33 And he said unto him, Lord, I am ready to go with thee, both into prison, and to death.
34 And he said, I tell thee, Peter, the cock shall not crow this day, before that thou shalt thrice deny that thou knowest me.
35 And he said unto them, When I sent you without purse, and scrip, and shoes, lacked ye any thing? And they said, Nothing.
36 Then said he unto them, But now, he that hath a purse, let him take it, and likewise his scrip: and he that hath no sword, let him sell his garment, and buy one.
37 For I say unto you, that this that is written must yet be accomplished in me, And he was reckoned among the transgressors: for the things concerning me have an end.
38 And they said, Lord, behold, here are two swords. And he said unto them, It is enough.
39 And he came out, and went, as he was wont, to the mount of Olives; and his disciples also followed him.
40 And when he was at the place, he said unto them, Pray that ye enter not into temptation.
41 And he was withdrawn from them about a stone's cast, and kneeled down, and prayed,
42 Saying, Father, if thou be willing, remove this cup from me: nevertheless not my will, but thine, be done.
43 And there appeared an angel unto him from heaven, strengthening him.
44 And being in an agony he prayed more earnestly: and his sweat was as it were great drops of blood falling down to the ground.
45 And when he rose up from prayer, and was come to his disciples, he found them sleeping for sorrow,
46 And said unto them, Why sleep ye? rise and pray, lest ye enter into temptation.
47 And while he yet spake, behold a multitude, and he that was called Judas, one of the twelve, went before them, and drew near unto Jesus to kiss him.
48 But Jesus said unto him, Judas, betrayest thou the Son of man with a kiss?
49 When they which were about him saw what would follow, they said unto him, Lord, shall we smite with the sword?
50 And one of them smote the servant of the high priest, and cut off his right ear.
51 And Jesus answered and said, Suffer ye thus far. And he touched his ear, and healed him.
52 Then Jesus said unto the chief priests, and captains of the temple, and the elders, which were come to him, Be ye come out, as against a thief, with swords and staves?
53 When I was daily with you in the temple, ye stretched forth no hands against me: but this is your hour, and the power of darkness.
54 Then took they him, and led him, and brought him into the high priest's house. And Peter followed afar off.
55 And when they had kindled a fire in the midst of the hall, and were set down together, Peter sat down among them.
56 But a certain maid beheld him as he sat by the fire, and earnestly looked upon him, and said, This man was also with him.
57 And he denied him, saying, Woman, I know him not.
58 And after a little while another saw him, and said, Thou art also of them. And Peter said, Man, I am not.
59 And about the space of one hour after another confidently affirmed, saying, Of a truth this fellow also was with him: for he is a Galilaean.
60 And Peter said, Man, I know not what thou sayest. And immediately, while he yet spake, the cock crew.
61 And the Lord turned, and looked upon Peter. And Peter remembered the word of the Lord, how he had said unto him, Before the cock crow, thou shalt deny me thrice.
62 And Peter went out, and wept bitterly.
63 And the men that held Jesus mocked him, and smote him.
64 And when they had blindfolded him, they struck him on the face, and asked him, saying, Prophesy, who is it that smote thee?
65 And many other things blasphemously spake they against him.
66 And as soon as it was day, the elders of the people and the chief priests and the scribes came together, and led him into their council, saying,
67 Art thou the Christ? tell us. And he said unto them, If I tell you, ye will not believe:
68 And if I also ask you, ye will not answer me, nor let me go.
69 Hereafter shall the Son of man sit on the right hand of the power of God.
70 Then said they all, Art thou then the Son of God? And he said unto them, Ye say that I am.
71 And they said, What need we any further witness? for we ourselves have heard of his own mouth.

Jesus and His Disciples Prepare the Passover
7 (H)Then came the Day of Unleavened Bread, when the Passover must be [a]killed. 8 And He sent Peter and John, saying, “Go and prepare the Passover for us, that we may eat.”
9 So they said to Him, “Where do You want us to prepare?”
10 And He said to them, “Behold, when you have entered the city, a man will meet you carrying a pitcher of water; follow him into the house which he enters. 11 Then you shall say to the master of the house, ‘The Teacher says to you, “Where is the guest room where I may eat the Passover with My disciples?” ’ 12 Then he will show you a large, furnished upper room; there make ready.”
13 So they went and (I)found it just as He had said to them, and they prepared the Passover.
Jesus Institutes the Lord’s Supper
14 (J)When the hour had come, He sat down, and the [b]twelve apostles with Him. 15 Then He said to them, “With fervent desire I have desired to eat this Passover with you before I suffer; 16 for I say to you, I will no longer eat of it (K)until it is fulfilled in the kingdom of God.”
17 Then He took the cup, and gave thanks, and said, “Take this and divide it among yourselves; 18 for (L)I say to you, [c]I will not drink of the fruit of the vine until the kingdom of God comes.”
19 (M)And He took bread, gave thanks and broke it, and gave it to them, saying, “This is My (N)body which is given for you; (O)do this in remembrance of Me.”
20 Likewise He also took the cup after supper, saying, (P)“This cup is the new covenant in My blood, which is shed for you. 21 (Q)But behold, the hand of My betrayer is with Me on the table. 22 (R)And truly the Son of Man goes (S)as it has been determined, but woe to that man by whom He is betrayed!”
23 (T)Then they began to question among themselves, which of them it was who would do this thing.
The Disciples Argue About Greatness
24 (U)Now there was also a dispute among them, as to which of them should be considered the greatest. 25 (V)And He said to them, “The kings of the Gentiles exercise lordship over them, and those who exercise authority over them are called ‘benefactors.’ 26 (W)But not so among you; on the contrary, (X)he who is greatest among you, let him be as the younger, and he who governs as he who serves. 27 (Y)For who is greater, he who sits at the table, or he who serves? Is it not he who sits at the table? Yet (Z)I am among you as the One who serves.
28 “But you are those who have continued with Me in (AA)My trials. 29 And (AB)I bestow upon you a kingdom, just as My Father bestowed one upon Me, 30 that (AC)you may eat and drink at My table in My kingdom, (AD)and sit on thrones judging the twelve tribes of Israel.”
Jesus Predicts Peter’s Denial(AE)
31 [d]And the Lord said, “Simon, Simon! Indeed, (AF)Satan has asked for you, that he may (AG)sift you as wheat. 32 But (AH)I have prayed for you, that your faith should not fail; and when you have returned to Me, (AI)strengthen your brethren.”
33 But he said to Him, “Lord, I am ready to go with You, both to prison and to death.”
34 (AJ)Then He said, “I tell you, Peter, the rooster shall not crow this day before you will deny three times that you know Me.”
Supplies for the Road
35 (AK)And He said to them, “When I sent you without money bag, knapsack, and sandals, did you lack anything?”
So they said, “Nothing.”
36 Then He said to them, “But now, he who has a money bag, let him take it, and likewise a knapsack; and he who has no sword, let him sell his garment and buy one. 37 For I say to you that this which is written must still be [e]accomplished in Me: (AL)‘And He was numbered with the transgressors.’ For the things concerning Me have an end.”
38 So they said, “Lord, look, here are two swords.”
And He said to them, “It is enough.”

Betrayal and Arrest in Gethsemane(AW)

Peter Denies Jesus, and Weeps Bitterly(BF)
54 (BG)Having arrested Him, they led Him and brought Him into the high priest’s house. (BH)But Peter followed at a distance. 55 (BI)Now when they had kindled a fire in the midst of the courtyard and sat down together, Peter sat among them. 56 And a certain servant girl, seeing him as he sat by the fire, looked intently at him and said, “This man was also with Him.”
57 But he denied [g]Him, saying, “Woman, I do not know Him.”

But Peter said, “Man, I am not!”

Judas Agrees to Betray Jesus(A)
22 Now the Festival of Unleavened Bread, called the Passover, was approaching,(B) 2 and the chief priests and the teachers of the law were looking for some way to get rid of Jesus,(C) for they were afraid of the people. 3 Then Satan(D) entered Judas, called Iscariot,(E) one of the Twelve. 4 And Judas went to the chief priests and the officers of the temple guard(F) and discussed with them how he might betray Jesus. 5 They were delighted and agreed to give him money.(G) 6 He consented, and watched for an opportunity to hand Jesus over to them when no crowd was present.

7 Then came the day of Unleavened Bread on which the Passover lamb had to be sacrificed.(M) 8 Jesus sent Peter and John,(N) saying, “Go and make preparations for us to eat the Passover.”
9 “Where do you want us to prepare for it?” they asked.
10 He replied, “As you enter the city, a man carrying a jar of water will meet you. Jesus Prays on the Mount of Olives(AM)
39 Jesus went out as usual(AN) to the Mount of Olives,(AO) and his disciples followed him. 40 On reaching the place, he said to them, “Pray that you will not fall into temptation.”(AP) 41 He withdrew about a stone’s throw beyond them, knelt down(AQ) and prayed, 42 “Father, if you are willing, take this cup(AR) from me; yet not my will, but yours be done.”(AS) 43 An angel from heaven appeared to him and strengthened him.(AT) 44 And being in anguish, he prayed more earnestly, and his sweat was like drops of blood falling to the ground.[c]
45 When he rose from prayer and went back to the disciples, he found them asleep, exhausted from sorrow. 46 “Why are you sleeping?” he asked them. “Get up and pray so that you will not fall into temptation.”(AU)
Jesus Arrested(AV)
47 While he was still speaking a crowd came up, and the man who was called Judas, one of the Twelve, was leading them. He approached Jesus to kiss him, 48 but Jesus asked him, “Judas, are you betraying the Son of Man with a kiss?”
49 When Jesus’ followers saw what was going to happen, they said, “Lord, should we strike with our swords?”(AW) 50 And one of them struck the servant of the high priest, cutting off his right ear.
51 But Jesus answered, “No more of this!” And he touched the man’s ear and healed him.
52 Then Jesus said to the chief priests, the officers of the temple guard,(AX) and the elders, who had come for him, “Am I leading a rebellion, that you have come with swords and clubs? 53 Every day I was with you in the temple courts,(AY) and you did not lay a hand on me. But this is your hour(AZ)—when darkness reigns.”(BA)
Peter Disowns Jesus(BB)
54 Then seizing him, they led him away and took him into the house of the high priest.(BC) Peter followed at a distance.(BD) 55 And when some there had kindled a fire in the middle of the courtyard and had sat down together, Peter sat down with them. 56 A servant girl saw him seated there in the firelight. She looked closely at him and said, “This man was with him.”
57 But he denied it. “Woman, I don’t know him,” he said.
58 A little later someone else saw him and said, “You also are one of them.”
“Man, I am not!” Peter replied.
59 About an hour later another asserted, “Certainly this fellow was with him, for he is a Galilean.”(BE)
60 Peter replied, “Man, I don’t know what you’re talking about!” Just as he was speaking, the rooster crowed. 61 The Lord(BF) turned and looked straight at Peter. Then Peter remembered the word the Lord had spoken to him: “Before the rooster crows today, you will disown me three times.”(BG) 62 And he went outside and wept bitterly.
The Guards Mock Jesus(BH)
63 The men who were guarding Jesus began mocking and beating him. 64 They blindfolded him and demanded, “Prophesy! Who hit you?” 65 And they said many other insulting things to him.(BI)

66 At daybreak the council(BM) of the elders of the people, both the chief priests and the teachers of the law, met together,(BN) and Jesus was led before them. 67 “If you are the Messiah,” they said, “tell us.”
Jesus answered, “If I tell you, you will not believe me, 68 and if I asked you, you would not answer.(BO) 69 But from now on, the Son of Man will be seated at the right hand of the mighty God.”(BP)
70 They all asked, “Are you then the Son of God?”(BQ)
He replied, “You say that I am.”(BR)
71 Then they said, “Why do we need any more testimony? We have heard it from his own lips.”

22 Das Fest der ungesäuerten Brote, das auch Passahfest genannt wird, stand kurz bevor. 2 Die obersten Priester und die Schriftgelehrten suchten nach einer günstigen Gelegenheit, bei der sie Jesus umbringen lassen könnten; sie fürchteten aber, im Volk einen Aufruhr auszulösen.
Der Verrat (Matthäus 26,14‒16; Markus 14,10‒11)
3 Zu der Zeit ergriff der Satan Besitz von Judas Iskariot, einem der zwölf Jünger von Jesus. 4 Judas ging zu den obersten Priestern und den Offizieren der Tempelwache und beriet mit ihnen, wie er Jesus an sie ausliefern könnte. 5 Hocherfreut versprachen die obersten Priester ihm eine Belohnung. 6 Sie wurden sich einig, und Judas suchte nach einer Gelegenheit, Jesus ohne Aufsehen zu verraten.
Vorbereitungen für das Passahfest (Matthäus 26,17‒19; Markus 14,12‒16)
7 Dann kam der erste Tag des Festes der ungesäuerten Brote, an dem das Passahlamm geschlachtet werden musste. 8 Jesus gab seinen Jüngern Petrus und Johannes den Auftrag: »Geht und bereitet alles vor, damit wir gemeinsam das Passahmahl feiern können.« 9 »Wo sollen wir denn das Fest vorbereiten?«, fragten sie.
10 Er antwortete: »Wenn ihr nach Jerusalem kommt, wird euch ein Mann begegnen, der einen Wasserkrug trägt. Folgt ihm in das Haus, das er betritt. 11 Dem Besitzer des Hauses sollt ihr sagen: ›Der Lehrer lässt dich fragen: Wo ist der Raum, in dem ich mit meinen Jüngern das Passahmahl feiern kann?‹ 12 Er wird euch ein großes Zimmer im Obergeschoss zeigen, das mit Polstern ausgestattet ist. Bereitet dort alles Weitere vor.« 13 Die beiden Jünger gingen in die Stadt und trafen alles so an, wie Jesus es ihnen gesagt hatte. Dann bereiteten sie das Passahmahl vor.

14 Als die Stunde für das Passahmahl gekommen war, nahm Jesus mit den Aposteln an der Festtafel Platz. 15 »Wie sehr habe ich mich danach gesehnt, mit euch dieses Passahmahl zu essen, bevor ich leiden muss«, sagte er. 16 »Ihr sollt wissen: Ich werde das Passahmahl erst wieder in Gottes Reich mit euch feiern. Dann hat sich erfüllt, wofür das Fest jetzt nur ein Zeichen ist.«
17 Jesus nahm einen Becher mit Wein, sprach das Dankgebet und sagte: »Nehmt diesen Becher und trinkt alle daraus! 18 Ich sage euch: Von jetzt an werde ich keinen Wein mehr trinken, bis Gottes Reich gekommen ist.«
19 Dann nahm er ein Brot. Er dankte Gott dafür, brach es in Stücke und gab es ihnen mit den Worten: »Das ist mein Leib, der für euch hingegeben wird. Feiert dieses Mahl immer wieder und denkt daran, was ich für euch getan habe, sooft ihr dieses Brot esst!«
20 Ebenso nahm er nach dem Essen den Becher mit Wein, reichte ihn den Jüngern und sagte: »Dieser Becher ist der neue Bund zwischen Gott und euch, der durch mein Blut besiegelt wird. Es wird zur Vergebung eurer Sünden vergossen. 21 Aber euch muss klar sein: Hier mit mir am Tisch ist der Mann, der mich verrät. 22 Der Menschensohn muss zwar sterben, wie es ihm von Gott bestimmt ist. Aber wehe seinem Verräter!« 23 Bestürzt fragte einer den anderen: »Wer von uns könnte so etwas tun?«
Wer ist der Wichtigste? (Matthäus 20,25‒28; Markus 10,42‒45)
24 Unter den Jüngern kam es zu einem Streit darüber, wer von ihnen wohl der Wichtigste sei. 25 Da sagte ihnen Jesus: »In dieser Welt unterdrücken die Herrscher ihre Völker, und rücksichtslose Machthaber lassen sich als Wohltäter feiern. 26 Aber bei euch soll es nicht so sein. Im Gegenteil: Der Erste unter euch soll sich allen anderen unterordnen, und wer euch führen will, muss allen dienen. 27 Wer ist denn bedeutender? Wer am Tisch sitzt und sich bedienen lässt oder wer bedient? Doch wohl derjenige, der sich bedienen lässt. Ich aber bin unter euch wie ein Diener.
28 Ihr seid mir in diesen Tagen der Gefahr und der Versuchung treu geblieben. 29 Deshalb verspreche ich euch: Ihr werdet mit mir zusammen in meinem Reich herrschen, das mein Vater mir übergeben hat. 30 Mit mir sollt ihr am selben Tisch essen und trinken. Ihr werdet auf Thronen sitzen und mit mir die zwölf Stämme Israels richten.«
Jesus kündigt seine Verleugnung durch Petrus an (Matthäus 26,31‒35; Markus 14,27‒31; Johannes 13,36‒38)
31 Zu Petrus gewandt sagte Jesus: »Simon, Simon, pass auf! Der Satan ist hinter euch her, und Gott hat ihm erlaubt, die Spreu vom Weizen zu trennen. 32 Aber ich habe für dich gebetet, dass du den Glauben nicht verlierst. Wenn du dann zu mir zurückgekehrt bist, so stärke den Glauben deiner Brüder!«
33 »Herr«, fuhr Petrus auf, »ich bin bereit, mit dir ins Gefängnis und sogar in den Tod zu gehen.« 34 Doch Jesus erwiderte: »Petrus, ich sage dir: Heute Nacht, noch ehe der Hahn kräht, wirst du dreimal geleugnet haben, mich zu kennen.«
Wie wird es weitergehen?
35 Dann fragte Jesus seine Jünger: »Als ich euch damals ohne Geld, Tasche und Schuhe aussandte,[a] hat euch da etwas gefehlt?« »Nein, gar nichts!«, beteuerten sie.
36 »Aber ab jetzt gilt etwas anderes: Nehmt euer Geld und Gepäck«, forderte er sie auf. »Wer kein Schwert besitzt, soll seinen Mantel verkaufen und sich eins beschaffen. 37 Denn jetzt ist die Zeit da, in der sich auch dieses Wort an mir erfüllen muss: ›Er wurde wie ein Verbrecher behandelt.‹[b] Alles, was in der Heiligen Schrift von mir geschrieben steht, geht nun in Erfüllung.« 38 »Herr«, riefen die Jünger, »wir haben hier zwei Schwerter.« Doch Jesus unterbrach sie: »Hört auf damit!«
Im Garten Gethsemane (Matthäus 26,30.36‒46; Markus 14,26.32‒42)
39 Dann verließ Jesus die Stadt und ging wie gewohnt zum Ölberg hinaus. Seine Jünger begleiteten ihn. 40 Dort angekommen sagte er zu ihnen: »Betet darum, dass ihr der kommenden Versuchung widerstehen könnt!« 41 Er entfernte sich ein kleines Stück von ihnen, kniete nieder 42 und betete: »Vater, wenn es dein Wille ist, dann lass diesen bitteren Kelch des Leidens an mir vorübergehen. Aber nicht was ich will, sondern was du willst, soll geschehen.«
43 Da erschien ein Engel vom Himmel und gab ihm neue Kraft. 44 Jesus litt Todesängste und betete so eindringlich, dass sein Schweiß wie Blut auf die Erde tropfte.
45 Als er nach dem Gebet aufstand und zu seinen Jüngern zurückkehrte, sah er, dass sie eingeschlafen waren, erschöpft von ihren Sorgen und ihrer Trauer. 46 Jesus weckte sie auf und rief: »Warum schlaft ihr? Steht auf und betet, damit ihr der Versuchung widerstehen könnt!«
Verrat und Verhaftung (Matthäus 26,47‒56; Markus 14,43‒49; Johannes 18,2‒11)
47 Noch während Jesus sprach, kam eine große Gruppe Männer. Sie wurden von Judas, einem der zwölf Jünger, angeführt. Judas ging auf Jesus zu, um ihn mit einem Kuss zu begrüßen.[c] 48 Aber Jesus fragte ihn: »Judas, willst du den Menschensohn mit einem Kuss verraten?«
49 Jetzt hatten auch die anderen Jünger begriffen, was vor sich ging. Aufgeregt riefen sie: »Herr, sollen wir dich mit dem Schwert verteidigen?« 50 Einer von ihnen zog gleich das Schwert, schlug auf den Diener des Hohenpriesters ein und hieb ihm das rechte Ohr ab. 51 Aber Jesus befahl: »Hört auf damit!« Er berührte das Ohr des Mannes und heilte ihn.
52 Dann fragte Jesus die obersten Priester, die Offiziere der Tempelwache und die führenden Männer des Volkes, die gekommen waren, um ihn festzunehmen: »Bin ich denn ein Verbrecher, dass ihr euch mit Schwertern und Knüppeln bewaffnen musstet? 53 Jeden Tag war ich im Tempel. Warum habt ihr mich nicht dort festgenommen? Aber jetzt ist eure Stunde da. Jetzt hat die Finsternis Macht.«
Petrus behauptet, Jesus nicht zu kennen (Matthäus 26,57‒58.69‒75; Markus 14,53‒54.66‒72; Johannes 18,12‒18.25‒27)
54 Die Männer verhafteten Jesus und führten ihn zum Palast des Hohenpriesters. Petrus folgte ihnen in sicherem Abstand. 55 Im Hof des Palastes zündeten sie ein Feuer an, um sich zu wärmen. Petrus setzte sich zu ihnen. 56 Im Schein des Feuers bemerkte ihn eine Dienerin und sah ihn prüfend an. »Der Mann da war auch mit Jesus zusammen!«, rief sie. 57 Doch Petrus widersprach: »Das ist unmöglich! Ich kenne ihn überhaupt nicht!«
58 Kurz darauf sah ihn ein anderer und meinte: »Du bist doch einer von seinen Freunden!« »Ausgeschlossen! Ich doch nicht!«, wehrte Petrus ab. 59 Nach etwa einer Stunde behauptete wieder einer: »Natürlich gehörte der hier zu Jesus; er kommt doch auch aus Galiläa!« 60 Aber Petrus stieß aufgebracht hervor: »Ich weiß nicht, wovon du redest.« In diesem Augenblick – noch während er das sagte – krähte ein Hahn.
61 Jesus drehte sich um und sah Petrus an. Da fielen Petrus die Worte ein, die der Herr zu ihm gesagt hatte: »Ehe der Hahn heute Nacht kräht, wirst du dreimal geleugnet haben, mich zu kennen.«
62 Er ging hinaus und weinte voller Verzweiflung.
Die Soldaten misshandeln Jesus (Matthäus 26,67‒68; Markus 14,65)
63 Die Männer, die Jesus bewachten, verhöhnten und schlugen ihn. 64 Sie verbanden ihm die Augen und spotteten: »Na, du Prophet! Sag uns, wer hat dich vorhin gerade geschlagen?« 65 Und noch viele andere Beleidigungen musste er über sich ergehen lassen.
Jesus vor Gericht (Matthäus 26,59‒66; Markus 14,55‒64; Johannes 18,19‒24)
66 Bei Tagesanbruch kamen die Mitglieder des Hohen Rates zusammen: die führenden Männer des Volkes, die obersten Priester und die Schriftgelehrten. Sie ließen Jesus vorführen 67 und forderten ihn auf: »Wenn du der Christus bist, der von Gott erwählte Retter, dann sag es uns!« Er erwiderte: »Wenn ich es euch sage, werdet ihr mir nicht glauben, 68 und wenn ich euch etwas frage, dann werdet ihr keine Antwort geben. 69 Doch von nun an wird der Menschensohn an der rechten Seite des allmächtigen Gottes sitzen.« 70 Empört schrien alle: »Willst du damit etwa sagen, dass du der Sohn Gottes bist?« Jesus antwortete: »Ihr habt recht, ich bin es!« 71 »Wozu brauchen wir da noch weitere Zeugen?«, riefen jetzt die Ankläger einstimmig. »Wir haben die Gotteslästerung doch aus seinem Mund gehört!«

Judas to Betray Jesus
3 (D)Then (E)Satan entered into (F)Judas called Iscariot, who was of the number of the twelve. 4 He went away and conferred with the chief priests and (G)officers how he might betray him to them. 5 And they were glad, and agreed to give him money. 6 So he consented and sought an opportunity to (H)betray him to them in the absence of a crowd.
The Passover with the Disciples
7 (I)Then came (J)the day of Unleavened Bread, on which the Passover lamb had to be sacrificed. 8 So Jesus[a] sent Peter and John, saying, “Go and prepare the Passover for us, that we may eat it.” 9 They said to him, “Where will you have us prepare it?” 10 He said to them, “Behold, when you have entered the city, a man carrying a jar of water will meet you. Institution of the Lord's Supper

Who Is the Greatest?
24 (AC)A dispute also arose among them, as to which of them was to be regarded as the greatest. 25 (AD)And he said to them, “The kings of the Gentiles (AE)exercise lordship over them, and those in authority over them are called benefactors. 26 (AF)But not so with you. Rather, let (AG)the greatest among you become as the youngest, and the leader as one who serves. 27 For who is the greater, (AH)one who reclines at table or one who serves? Is it not the one who reclines at table? But (AI)I am among you as the one who serves.
28 “You are those who have stayed with me (AJ)in my trials, 29 and (AK)I assign to you, as my Father assigned to me, a kingdom, 30 (AL)that you may eat and drink at my table in my kingdom and (AM)sit on thrones judging (AN)the twelve tribes of Israel.
Jesus Foretells Peter's Denial
31 “Simon, Simon, behold, (AO)Satan demanded to have you,[d] (AP)that he might sift you like wheat, 32 but (AQ)I have prayed for you that your faith may not fail. And when you have turned again, (AR)strengthen your brothers.” 33 Peter[e] said to him, “Lord, I am ready to go with you both (AS)to prison and (AT)to death.” 34 (AU)Jesus[f] said, “I tell you, Peter, the rooster will not crow this day, until you deny three times that you know me.”
Scripture Must Be Fulfilled in Jesus
35 And he said to them, (AV)“When I sent you out with no moneybag or knapsack or sandals, did you lack anything?” They said, “Nothing.” 36 He said to them, “But now let the one who has a moneybag take it, and likewise a knapsack. Jesus Prays on the Mount of Olives
39 (BB)And he came out and went, (BC)as was his custom, to (BD)the Mount of Olives, and the disciples followed him. 40 (BE)And when he came to (BF)the place, he said to them, (BG)“Pray that you may not (BH)enter into temptation.” 41 And he withdrew from them about a stone's throw, and (BI)knelt down and prayed, 42 saying, (BJ)“Father, if you are willing, remove (BK)this cup from me. (BL)Nevertheless, not my will, but yours, be done.” 43 And there appeared to him (BM)an angel from heaven, strengthening him. 44 And (BN)being in agony he prayed more earnestly; and his sweat became like great drops of blood falling down to the ground.[g] 45 And when he rose from prayer, he came to the disciples and found them sleeping for sorrow, 46 and he said to them, “Why are you sleeping? Betrayal and Arrest of Jesus
47 (BP)While he was still speaking, there came a crowd, and the man called (BQ)Judas, one of the twelve, was leading them. He drew near to Jesus to kiss him, 48 but Jesus said to him, “Judas, would you betray the Son of Man with a kiss?” 49 And when those who were around him saw what would follow, they said, “Lord, shall we strike (BR)with the sword?” 50 And one of them struck the servant[h] of the high priest and cut off his right ear. 51 But Jesus said, “No more of this!” And he touched his ear and healed him. 52 Then Jesus said to the chief priests and (BS)officers of the temple and elders, who had come out against him, “Have you come out as against a robber, with swords and clubs? 53 When (BT)I was with you day after day in the temple, you did not lay hands on me. But this is (BU)your hour, and (BV)the power of darkness.”
Peter Denies Jesus
54 (BW)Then they seized him and led him away, bringing him into the high priest's house, (BX)and Peter was following at a distance. 55 (BY)And when they had kindled a fire in the middle of (BZ)the courtyard and sat down together, Peter sat down among them. 56 Then a servant girl, seeing him as he sat in the light and looking closely at him, said, “This man also was with him.” 57 But he denied it, saying, “Woman, I do not know him.” 58 And a little later someone else saw him and said, “You also are one of them.” But Peter said, “Man, I am not.” 59 And after an interval of about an hour still another (CA)insisted, saying, “Certainly this man also was with him, for he too is a Galilean.” 60 But Peter said, “Man, I do not know what you are talking about.” And immediately, while he was still speaking, the rooster crowed. 61 And the Lord turned and (CB)looked at Peter. And Peter remembered the saying of the Lord, how he had said to him, (CC)“Before the rooster crows today, you will (CD)deny me three times.” 62 And he went out and wept bitterly.
Jesus Is Mocked
63 (CE)Now the men who were holding Jesus in custody were mocking him as they beat him. 64 (CF)They also blindfolded him and kept asking him, (CG)“Prophesy! (CH)Who is it that struck you?” 65 And they said many other things against him, (CI)blaspheming him.
Jesus Before the Council
66 (CJ)When day came, (CK)the assembly of the elders of the people gathered together, both chief priests and scribes. And they led him away to their (CL)council, and they (CM)said, 67 (CN)“If you are (CO)the Christ, tell us.” But he said to them, “If I tell you, you will not believe, 68 and if I ask you, you will not answer. 69 But from now on the Son of Man shall be seated (CP)at the right hand of the power of God.” 70 So they all said, “Are you (CQ)the Son of God, then?” And he said to them, (CR)“You say that I am.” 71 Then they said, “What further testimony do we need? We have heard it ourselves from his own lips.”
