¹⁵ When they had ^(A)finished breakfast, Jesus said to Simon Peter, ^(B)“Simon, ^(C)son of John, ^(D)do you love me more than these?” He said to him, “Yes, Lord; you know that I love you.” He said to him, “Feed ^(E)my lambs.” ¹⁶ He said to him a second time, “Simon, son of John, do you love me?” He said to him, “Yes, Lord; you know that I love you.” He said to him, ^(F)“Tend ^(G)my sheep.” ¹⁷ He said to him the third time, “Simon, son of John, do you love me?” Peter was grieved because he said to him ^(H)the third time, “Do you love me?” and he said to him, “Lord, ^(I)you know everything; you know that I love you.” Jesus said to him, “Feed ^(J)my sheep.

^8 (A)Be sober-minded; ^(B)be watchful. Your ^(C)adversary the devil ^(D)prowls around ^(E)like a roaring lion, seeking someone to devour. ^9 (F)Resist him, ^(G)firm in your faith, knowing that ^(H)the same kinds of suffering are being experienced by your brotherhood throughout the world. ¹⁰ And ^(I)after you have suffered a little while, the God of all grace, ^(J)who has called you to his ^(K)eternal glory in Christ, will himself ^(L)restore, ^(M)confirm, strengthen, and establish you.

^34 (A)Who is to condemn? Christ Jesus is the one who died—more than that, who was raised—^(B)who is at the right hand of God, ^(C)who indeed is interceding for us.^[a]

⁹ I am praying for them. ^(A)I am not praying for the world but for those ^(B)whom you have given me, for ^(C)they are yours. ^10 (D)All mine are yours, and yours are mine, and ^(E)I am glorified in them. ¹¹ And I am no longer in the world, but ^(F)they are in the world, and ^(G)I am coming to you. ^(H)Holy Father, ^(I)keep them in your name, ^(J)which you have given me, ^(K)that they may be one, ^(L)even as we are one.

^4 (A)who comforts us in all our affliction, so that we may be able to comfort those who are in any affliction, with the comfort with which we ourselves are comforted by God. ⁵ For as we share abundantly in ^(B)Christ's sufferings, so through Christ we share abundantly in comfort too.^{[a] 6 (C)}If we are afflicted, it is for your comfort and salvation; and if we are comforted, it is for your comfort, which you experience when you patiently endure the same sufferings that we suffer.

²⁵ Consequently, he is able to save to the uttermost^{[a] (A)}those who draw near to God ^(B)through him, since he always lives ^(C)to make intercession for them.

Christ Our Advocate

2 My little children, I am writing these things to you so that you may not sin. But if anyone does sin, ^(A)we have an advocate with the Father, Jesus Christ the righteous. ^2 (B)He is the propitiation for our sins, and not for ours only but ^(C)also for the sins of the whole world.
