³ So watch yourselves.

“If your brother or sister^[a] sins against you, rebuke them;^(A) and if they repent, forgive them.^(B)

¹⁷ “‘Do not hate a fellow Israelite in your heart.^(A) Rebuke your neighbor frankly^(B) so you will not share in their guilt.

The Parable of the Unmerciful Servant

²¹ Then Peter came to Jesus and asked, “Lord, how many times shall I forgive my brother or sister who sins against me?^(A) Up to seven times?”^(B)

Dealing With Sin in the Church

¹⁵ “If your brother or sister^[a] sins,^[b] go and point out their fault,^(A) just between the two of you. If they listen to you, you have won them over. ¹⁶ But if they will not listen, take one or two others along, so that ‘every matter may be established by the testimony of two or three witnesses.’^{[c](B) 17} If they still refuse to listen, tell it to the church;^(C) and if they refuse to listen even to the church, treat them as you would a pagan or a tax collector.^(D)

⁶ He told them, “Consider carefully what you do,^(A) because you are not judging for mere mortals^(B) but for the Lord, who is with you whenever you give a verdict. ⁷ Now let the fear of the Lord be on you. Judge carefully, for with the Lord our God there is no injustice^(C) or partiality^(D) or bribery.”

¹⁹ My brothers and sisters, if one of you should wander from the truth^(A) and someone should bring that person back,^(B)

²³ Be careful not to forget the covenant^(A) of the Lord your God that he made with you; do not make for yourselves an idol^(B) in the form of anything the Lord your God has forbidden.
