Parabola del fattore infedele
16 (A)Gesú diceva ancora ai suoi discepoli: «Un uomo ricco aveva un fattore, il quale fu accusato davanti a lui di sperperare i suoi beni. 2 Egli lo chiamò e gli disse: “Che cos'è questo che sento dire di te? Rendi conto della tua amministrazione, perché tu non puoi piú essere mio fattore”. 3 Il fattore disse fra sé: “Che farò, ora che il padrone mi toglie l'amministrazione? Di zappare non sono capace; di mendicare mi vergogno. 4 So quello che farò, perché qualcuno mi riceva in casa sua quando dovrò lasciare l'amministrazione”. 5 Fece venire uno per uno i debitori del suo padrone, e disse al primo: 6 “Quanto devi al mio padrone?” Quello rispose: “Cento *bati d'olio”. Egli disse: “Prendi la tua scritta, siedi, e scrivi presto: cinquanta”. 7 Poi disse a un altro: “E tu, quanto devi?” Quello rispose: “Cento *cori di grano”. Egli disse: “Prendi la tua scritta, e scrivi: ottanta”. 8 E il padrone lodò il fattore disonesto perché aveva agito con avvedutezza; poiché i figli di questo mondo, nelle relazioni con quelli della loro generazione, sono piú avveduti dei figli della luce.
9 E io vi dico: fatevi degli amici con le ricchezze ingiuste; perché quando esse verranno a mancare, quelli vi ricevano nelle dimore eterne. 10 Chi è fedele nelle cose minime, è fedele anche nelle grandi; e chi è ingiusto nelle cose minime, è ingiusto anche nelle grandi. 11 Se dunque non siete stati fedeli nelle ricchezze ingiuste, chi vi affiderà quelle vere? 12 E, se non siete stati fedeli nei beni altrui, chi vi darà i vostri? 13 Nessun domestico può servire due padroni; perché o odierà l'uno e amerà l'altro, o avrà riguardo per l'uno e disprezzo per l'altro. Voi non potete servire Dio e Mammona».
Gesú condanna l'avarizia
14 (B)I *farisei, che amavano il denaro, udivano tutte queste cose e si beffavano di lui. 15 Ed egli disse loro: «Voi vi proclamate giusti davanti agli uomini; ma Dio conosce i vostri cuori; perché quello che è eccelso tra gli uomini, è abominevole davanti a Dio.
16 La legge e i *profeti hanno durato fino a *Giovanni; da quel tempo è annunziata la buona notizia del regno di Dio, e ciascuno vi entra a forza. 17 È piú facile che passino cielo e terra, anziché cada un solo apice[a] della legge.

18 (C)«Chiunque manda via la moglie e ne sposa un'altra, commette adulterio; e chiunque sposa una donna mandata via dal marito, commette adulterio.
Il ricco e Lazzaro
19 (D)«C'era un uomo ricco, che si vestiva di porpora e di bisso, e ogni giorno si divertiva splendidamente; 20 e c'era un mendicante, chiamato *Lazzaro, che stava alla porta di lui, pieno di ulceri, 21 e bramoso di sfamarsi con quello che cadeva dalla tavola del ricco; e perfino i cani venivano a leccargli le ulceri. 22 Avvenne che il povero morí e fu portato dagli angeli nel seno di *Abraamo[b]; morí anche il ricco, e fu sepolto. 23 E nell'Ades[c], essendo nei tormenti, alzò gli occhi e vide da lontano Abraamo, e Lazzaro nel suo seno; 24 ed esclamò: “Padre Abraamo, abbi pietà di me, e manda Lazzaro a intingere la punta del dito nell'acqua per rinfrescarmi la lingua, perché sono tormentato in questa fiamma”. 25 Ma Abraamo disse: “Figlio, ricòrdati che tu nella tua vita hai ricevuto i tuoi beni e che Lazzaro similmente ricevette i mali; ma ora qui egli è consolato, e tu sei tormentato. 26 Oltre a tutto questo, fra noi e voi è posta una grande voragine, perché quelli che vorrebbero passare di qui a voi non possano, né di là si passi da noi”. 27 Ed egli disse: “Ti prego, dunque, o padre, che tu lo mandi a casa di mio padre, 28 perché ho cinque fratelli, affinché attesti loro queste cose, e non vengano anche loro in questo luogo di tormento”. 29 Abraamo disse: “Hanno *Mosè e i profeti; ascoltino quelli”. 30 Ed egli: “No, padre Abraamo; ma se qualcuno dai morti va a loro, si ravvedranno”. 31 Abraamo rispose: “Se non ascoltano Mosè e i profeti, non si lasceranno persuadere neppure se uno dei morti risuscita”».

16 Or egli disse ancora ai suoi discepoli: «Vi era un uomo ricco che aveva un fattore; e questi fu accusato davanti a lui di dissipare i suoi beni.
2 Allora egli lo chiamò e gli disse: "Che cosa è questo che sento dire di te? Rendi ragione della tua amministrazione, perché tu non puoi piú essere mio fattore".
3 E il fattore disse fra se stesso: "Che farò ora, dato che il mio padrone mi toglie l'amministrazione? A zappare non son capace, e a mendicare mi vergogno.
4 Io so cosa fare affinché, quando io sarò rimosso dall'amministrazione, mi accolgano nelle loro case
5 Chiamati dunque ad uno ad uno i debitori del suo padrone, disse al primo: "Quanto devi al mio padrone?
6 Quello rispose: "Cento bati di olio". Allora egli gli disse: "Prendi la tua ricevuta, siedi e scrivi subito cinquanta".
7 Poi disse ad un altro: "e tu quanto devi". Ed egli disse: "Cento cori di grano". Allora egli gli disse: "Prendi la tua ricevuta e scrivi ottanta".
8 Il padrone lodò il fattore disonesto, perché aveva agito con avvedutezza, poiché i figli di questo mondo, nella loro generazione, sono piú avveduti dei figli della luce.
9 Or io vi dico: Fatevi degli amici con le ricchezze ingiuste perché, quando esse verranno a mancare, vi ricevano nelle dimore eterne.
10 Chi è fedele nel poco, è fedele anche nel molto; e chi è ingiusto nel poco, è ingiusto anche nel molto.
11 Se dunque voi non siete stati fedeli nelle ricchezze ingiuste, chi vi affiderà le vere?
12 E se non siete stati fedeli nelle ricchezze altrui, chi vi darà le vostre?
13 Nessun servo può servire a due padroni; perché o odierà l'uno e amerà l'altro, o si affezionerà all'uno e disprezzerà l'altro; voi non potete servire a Dio e a mammona».
14 Or i farisei, che erano amanti del denaro, udivano tutte queste cose e si beffavano di lui.
15 Ed egli disse loro: «Voi siete quelli che giustificate voi stessi davanti agli uomini, ma Dio conosce i vostri cuori; poiché ciò che è grandemente stimato tra gli uomini è cosa abominevole davanti a Dio.
16 La legge e i profeti arrivano fino a Giovanni; da allora in poi il regno di Dio è annunziato e ognuno si sforza di entrarvi.
17 Ma è piú facile che passino il cielo e la terra, piuttosto che cada un sol apice della legge.

21 e desiderava saziarsi delle briciole che cadevano dalla tavola del ricco, e perfino i cani venivano a leccare le sue piaghe.
22 Or avvenne che il mendicante morí e fu portato dagli angeli nel seno di Abrahamo; morí anche il ricco e fu sepolto.
23 E, essendo tra i tormenti nell'inferno, alzò gli occhi e vide da lontano Abrahamo e Lazzaro nel suo seno.
24 Allora, gridando, disse: "Padre Abrahamo, abbi pietà di me, e manda Lazzaro a intingere nell'acqua la punta del dito per rinfrescarmi la lingua, perché soffro terribilmente in questa fiamma
25 Ma Abrahamo disse: "Figlio, ricordati che tu hai ricevuto i tuoi beni durante la tua vita e Lazzaro similmente i mali; ora invece egli è consolato e tu soffri.
26 Oltre a tutto ciò, fra noi e voi è posto un grande baratro, in modo tale che coloro che vorrebbero da qui passare a voi non possono; cosí pure nessuno può passare di là a noi
27 Ma quello disse: "Ti prego dunque, o padre, di mandarlo a casa di mio padre,
28 perché io ho cinque fratelli, affinché li avverta severamente, e cosí non vengano anch'essi in questo luogo di tormento.
29 Abrahamo rispose: "hanno Mosé e i profeti, ascoltino quelli".
30 Quello disse: "No, padre Abrahamo, ma se qualcuno dai morti andrà da loro, si ravvederanno".
31 Allora egli gli disse: "se non ascoltano Mosé e i profeti, non crederanno neppure se uno risuscitasse dai morti"».

The Parable of the Unrighteous Steward
16 Now He was also saying to the disciples, “There was a rich man who had a steward, and this steward was [a]reported to him as (A)squandering his possessions. 2 And he called for him and said to him, ‘What is this I hear about you? Give an accounting of your stewardship, for you can no longer be steward.’ 3 And the steward said to himself, ‘What shall I do, since my [b]master is taking the stewardship away from me? I am not strong enough to dig; I am ashamed to beg. 4 I know what I shall do, so that when I am removed from the stewardship people will [c]take me into their homes.’ 5 And he summoned each one of his [d]master’s debtors, and he began saying to the first, ‘How much do you owe my master?’ 6 And he said, ‘One hundred [e]baths of oil.’ And he said to him, ‘Take your bill, and sit down quickly and write fifty.’ 7 Then he said to another, ‘And how much do you owe?’ And he said, ‘One hundred [f]kors of wheat.’ He *said to him, ‘Take your bill, and write eighty.’ 8 And his [g]master praised the unrighteous steward because he had acted shrewdly, for the sons of (B)this age are more shrewd in relation to their own [h]kind than the (C)sons of light. 9 And I say to you, (D)make friends for yourselves from the [i](E)wealth of unrighteousness, so that when it fails, (F)they will [j]take you into the eternal dwellings.
10 “(G)He who is faithful in a very little thing is faithful also in much, and he who is unrighteous in a very little thing is unrighteous also in much. 11 Therefore if you have not been faithful in the use of unrighteous [k](H)wealth, who will entrust the true riches to you? 12 And if you have not been faithful in the use of that which is another’s, who will give you that which is your own? 13 (I)No [l]servant can [m]serve two masters; for either he will hate the one and love the other, or else he will be devoted to one and despise the other. You cannot [n]serve God and [o](J)wealth.”
14 Now the Pharisees, who were (K)lovers of money, were listening to all these things and (L)were scoffing at Him. 15 And He said to them, “You are those who (M)justify yourselves [p]in the sight of men, but (N)God knows your hearts, for that which is highly esteemed among men is detestable [q]in the sight of God.
16 “(O)The Law and the Prophets were until John; [r]since that time (P)the good news of the kingdom of God is proclaimed, and everyone is forcing his way into it. 17 (Q)But it is easier for heaven and earth to pass away than for one [s]stroke of a letter of the Law to fail.
18 “(R)Everyone who [t]divorces his wife and marries another commits adultery, and he who marries a woman who is [u]divorced from a husband commits adultery.
The Rich Man and Lazarus
19 “Now there was a rich man, and he habitually dressed in purple and fine linen, joyously living in splendor every day. 20 But a poor man named Lazarus (S)was laid at his gate, covered with sores, 21 and desiring to be fed with the crumbs which were falling from the rich man’s table; besides, even the dogs were coming and licking his sores. 22 Now it happened that the poor man died and was carried away by the angels to (T)Abraham’s bosom, and the rich man also died and was buried. 23 And in (U)Hades he lifted up his eyes, being in torment, and *saw Abraham far away and Lazarus in his bosom. 24 And he cried out and said, ‘(V)Father Abraham, have mercy on me, and send Lazarus so that he may dip the tip of his finger in water and cool off my tongue, for I am in agony in (W)this flame.’ 25 But Abraham said, ‘Child, remember that (X)during your life you received your good things, and likewise Lazarus bad things. But now he is being comforted here, and you are in agony. 26 And [v]besides all this, between us and you there is a great chasm fixed, so that those who wish to come over from here to you are not able, and none may cross over from there to us.’ 27 And he said, ‘Then I am asking you, father, that you send him to my father’s house— 28 for I have five brothers—in order that he may (Y)warn them, so that they will not also come to this place of torment.’ 29 But Abraham *said, ‘They have (Z)Moses and the Prophets; let them hear them.’ 30 But he said, ‘No, (AA)father Abraham, but if someone goes to them from the dead, they will repent!’ 31 But he said to him, ‘If they do not listen to Moses and the Prophets, they will not be persuaded even if someone rises from the dead.’”

The Parable of the Shrewd Manager
16 Jesus told his disciples: “There was a rich man whose manager was accused of wasting his possessions.(A) 2 So he called him in and asked him, ‘What is this I hear about you? Give an account of your management, because you cannot be manager any longer.’
3 “The manager said to himself, ‘What shall I do now? My master is taking away my job. I’m not strong enough to dig, and I’m ashamed to beg— 4 I know what I’ll do so that, when I lose my job here, people will welcome me into their houses.’
5 “So he called in each one of his master’s debtors. He asked the first, ‘How much do you owe my master?’
6 “‘Nine hundred gallons[a] of olive oil,’ he replied.
“The manager told him, ‘Take your bill, sit down quickly, and make it four hundred and fifty.’
7 “Then he asked the second, ‘And how much do you owe?’
“‘A thousand bushels[b] of wheat,’ he replied.
“He told him, ‘Take your bill and make it eight hundred.’
8 “The master commended the dishonest manager because he had acted shrewdly. For the people of this world(B) are more shrewd(C) in dealing with their own kind than are the people of the light.(D) 9 I tell you, use worldly wealth(E) to gain friends for yourselves, so that when it is gone, you will be welcomed into eternal dwellings.(F)
10 “Whoever can be trusted with very little can also be trusted with much,(G) and whoever is dishonest with very little will also be dishonest with much. 11 So if you have not been trustworthy in handling worldly wealth,(H) who will trust you with true riches? 12 And if you have not been trustworthy with someone else’s property, who will give you property of your own?
13 “No one can serve two masters. Either you will hate the one and love the other, or you will be devoted to the one and despise the other. You cannot serve both God and money.”(I)
14 The Pharisees, who loved money,(J) heard all this and were sneering at Jesus.(K) 15 He said to them, “You are the ones who justify yourselves(L) in the eyes of others, but God knows your hearts.(M) What people value highly is detestable in God’s sight.

25 “But Abraham replied, ‘Son, remember that in your lifetime you received your good things, while Lazarus received bad things,(W) but now he is comforted here and you are in agony.(X) 26 And besides all this, between us and you a great chasm has been set in place, so that those who want to go from here to you cannot, nor can anyone cross over from there to us.’
27 “He answered, ‘Then I beg you, father, send Lazarus to my family, 28 for I have five brothers. Let him warn them,(Y) so that they will not also come to this place of torment.’
29 “Abraham replied, ‘They have Moses(Z) and the Prophets;(AA) let them listen to them.’
30 “‘No, father Abraham,’(AB) he said, ‘but if someone from the dead goes to them, they will repent.’
31 “He said to him, ‘If they do not listen to Moses and the Prophets, they will not be convinced even if someone rises from the dead.’”
