^3 (A)You shall not do as they do in the land of Egypt, where you lived, and ^(B)you shall not do as they do in the land of Canaan, to which I am bringing you. You shall not walk in their statutes.

^23 (A)And you shall not walk in the customs of the nation that I am driving out before you, for they did all these things, and therefore I detested them.

²⁴ you shall ^(A)not bow down to their gods nor serve them, ^(B)nor do as they do, but ^(C)you shall utterly overthrow them and break their ^(D)pillars in pieces.

⁷ And I said to them, ^(A)‘Cast away the detestable things ^(B)your eyes feast on, every one of you, and do not defile yourselves with ^(C)the idols of Egypt; ^(D)I am the Lord your God.’ ^8 (E)But they rebelled against me and were not willing to listen to me. ^(F)None of them cast away the detestable things their eyes feasted on, nor did they forsake the idols of Egypt.

“Then I said I would pour out my wrath upon them ^(G)and spend my anger against them in the midst of the land of Egypt.

^2 (A)so as to live for ^(B)the rest of the time in the flesh ^(C)no longer for human passions but ^(D)for the will of God. ³ For the time that is past ^(E)suffices ^(F)for doing what the Gentiles want to do, living in sensuality, passions, drunkenness, orgies, drinking parties, and lawless idolatry. ⁴ With respect to this they are surprised when you do not join them in the same flood of ^(G)debauchery, and ^(H)they malign you;

⁸ She did not give up her whoring ^(A)that she had begun in Egypt; for in her youth men had lain with her and handled her virgin bosom and poured out their whoring lust upon her.

³⁰ take care ^(A)that you be not ensnared to follow them, after they have been destroyed before you, and that you do not inquire about their gods, saying, ‘How did these nations serve their gods?—that I also may do the same.’ ^31 (B)You shall not worship the Lord your God in that way, for every ^(C)abominable thing that the Lord hates they have done for their gods, for ^(D)they even burn their sons and their daughters in the fire to their gods.

⁷ Therefore ^(A)do not become partners with them; ⁸ for ^(B)at one time you were ^(C)darkness, but now you are light in the Lord. ^(D)Walk as children of light ⁹ (for ^(E)the fruit of light is found in all that is good and right and true), ¹⁰ and ^(F)try to discern what is pleasing to the Lord. ^11 (G)Take no part in the ^(H)unfruitful ^(I)works of darkness, but instead ^(J)expose them.

^2 (A)Do not be conformed to this world,^[a] but be transformed by ^(B)the renewal of your mind, that by testing you may ^(C)discern what is the will of God, what is good and acceptable and perfect.^[b]
