³ So the king of Jericho sent this message to Rahab:^(A) “Bring out the men who came to you and entered your house, because they have come to spy out the whole land.”

³ the Ammonite commanders said to Hanun their lord, “Do you think David is honoring your father by sending envoys to you to express sympathy? Hasn’t David sent them to you only to explore the city and spy it out^(A) and overthrow it?”

⁶ The night before Herod was to bring him to trial, Peter was sleeping between two soldiers, bound with two chains,^(A) and sentries stood guard at the entrance.

⁴ After arresting him, he put him in prison, handing him over to be guarded by four squads of four soldiers each. Herod intended to bring him out for public trial after the Passover.^(A)

⁴ Once more Pilate came out and said to the Jews gathered there, “Look, I am bringing him out^(A) to you to let you know that I find no basis for a charge against him.”^(B)

³ the Ammonite commanders said to Hanun, “Do you think David is honoring your father by sending envoys to you to express sympathy? Haven’t his envoys come to you only to explore and spy out^(A) the country and overthrow it?”

²³ So they brought the five kings out of the cave—the kings of Jerusalem, Hebron, Jarmuth, Lachish and Eglon.

¹⁴ “Take the blasphemer outside the camp. All those who heard him are to lay their hands on his head, and the entire assembly is to stone him.^(A)

³¹ But we said to him, ‘We are honest men; we are not spies.^(A)
