¹⁴ Joseph said to them, “It is just as I told you: You are spies!^(A)

¹⁶ Send one of your number to get your brother;^(A) the rest of you will be kept in prison,^(B) so that your words may be tested to see if you are telling the truth.^(C) If you are not, then as surely as Pharaoh lives, you are spies!^(D)”

³⁰ “The man who is lord over the land spoke harshly to us^(A) and treated us as though we were spying on the land.^(B)

²² Then all of you came to me and said, “Let us send men ahead to spy^(A) out the land^(B) for us and bring back a report about the route we are to take and the towns we will come to.”

Rahab and the Spies

2 Then Joshua son of Nun secretly sent two spies^(A) from Shittim.^(B) “Go, look over^(C) the land,” he said, “especially Jericho.^(D)” So they went and entered the house of a prostitute named Rahab^(E) and stayed there.

²² Joshua said to the two men^(A) who had spied out^(B) the land, “Go into the prostitute’s house and bring her out and all who belong to her, in accordance with your oath to her.^(C)”
