I Am the Bread of Life

²² On the next day the crowd that remained on the other side of the sea saw that there had been only ^(A)one boat there, and that Jesus had not entered the boat with his disciples, but that his disciples had gone away alone. ²³ Other boats from Tiberias came near the place where they had eaten the bread after the Lord ^(B)had given thanks. ^24 (C)So when the crowd saw that Jesus was not there, nor his disciples, they themselves got into the boats and ^(D)went to Capernaum, seeking Jesus.

²⁵ When they found him on the other side of the sea, they said to him, ^(E)“Rabbi, when did you come here?” ²⁶ Jesus answered them, “Truly, truly, I say to you, ^(F)you are seeking me, not because you saw ^(G)signs, but because you ate your fill of the loaves. ^27 (H)Do not work for the food that perishes, but for ^(I)the food that endures to eternal life, which ^(J)the Son of Man will give to you. For on ^(K)him God the Father has ^(L)set his seal.” ²⁸ Then they said to him, “What must we do, to be doing ^(M)the works of God?” ²⁹ Jesus answered them, “This is the work of God, ^(N)that you believe in him whom ^(O)he has sent.” ³⁰ So they said to him, ^(P)“Then what sign do you do, that we may see and believe you? What work do you perform? ^31 (Q)Our fathers ate the manna in the wilderness; as it is written, ^(R)‘He gave them bread from heaven to eat.’” ³² Jesus then said to them, “Truly, truly, I say to you, it was not Moses who gave you the bread from heaven, but my Father gives you the true bread from heaven. ³³ For the bread of God is ^(S)he who comes down from heaven and gives life to the world.” ³⁴ They said to him, ^(T)“Sir, give us this bread always.”

³⁵ Jesus said to them, ^(U)“I am the bread of life; ^(V)whoever comes to me shall not hunger, and whoever believes in me shall never thirst. ³⁶ But I said to you that you have seen me and yet do not believe. ^37 (W)All that ^(X)the Father gives me will come to me, and ^(Y)whoever comes to me I will never cast out. ³⁸ For ^(Z)I have come down from heaven, not to do ^(AA)my own will but ^(AB)the will of him ^(AC)who sent me. ³⁹ And ^(AD)this is the will of him who sent me, ^(AE)that I should lose nothing of ^(AF)all that he has given me, but ^(AG)raise it up on the last day. ⁴⁰ For this is the will of my Father, that everyone who ^(AH)looks on the Son and ^(AI)believes in him ^(AJ)should have eternal life, and I will raise him up on the last day.”

^28 (A)I give them eternal life, and ^(B)they will never perish, and ^(C)no one will snatch them out of my hand. ²⁹ My Father, ^(D)who has given them to me,^{[a] (E)}is greater than all, and no one is able to snatch them out of ^(F)the Father's hand.

^6 (A)“I have manifested your name to the people ^(B)whom you gave me out of the world. ^(C)Yours they were, and you gave them to me, and they have kept your word. ⁷ Now they know that everything ^(D)that you have given me is from you. ⁸ For I have given them ^(E)the words that you gave me, and they have received them and have come to know in truth that ^(F)I came from you; and ^(G)they have believed that you sent me. ⁹ I am praying for them. ^(H)I am not praying for the world but for those ^(I)whom you have given me, for ^(J)they are yours. ^10 (K)All mine are yours, and yours are mine, and ^(L)I am glorified in them. ¹¹ And I am no longer in the world, but ^(M)they are in the world, and ^(N)I am coming to you. ^(O)Holy Father, ^(P)keep them in your name, ^(Q)which you have given me, ^(R)that they may be one, ^(S)even as we are one. ^12 (T)While I was with them, I kept them in your name, which you have given me. I have ^(U)guarded them, and ^(V)not one of them has been lost except ^(W)the son of destruction, ^(X)that the Scripture might be fulfilled.

^22 (A)The glory that you have given me ^(B)I have given to them, ^(C)that they may be one even as we are one, ^23 (D)I in them and you in me, ^(E)that they may become perfectly one, ^(F)so that the world may know that you sent me and ^(G)loved them even as ^(H)you loved me. ²⁴ Father, I desire that they also, whom you have given me, may be ^(I)with me ^(J)where I am, ^(K)to see my glory that you have given me because you loved me ^(L)before the foundation of the world.

³⁸ For I am sure that neither death nor life, nor angels nor rulers, nor things present nor things to come, nor powers, ³⁹ nor height nor depth, nor anything else in all creation, will be able to separate us from the love of God in Christ Jesus our Lord.

¹³ In him you also, when you heard ^(A)the word of truth, the gospel of your salvation, and believed in him, ^(B)were sealed with the ^(C)promised Holy Spirit, ¹⁴ who is ^(D)the guarantee^[a] of our ^(E)inheritance until ^(F)we acquire ^(G)possession of it,^{[b] (H)}to the praise of his glory.

²⁸ Then they said to him, “What must we do, to be doing ^(A)the works of God?” ²⁹ Jesus answered them, “This is the work of God, ^(B)that you believe in him whom ^(C)he has sent.”

⁸ For ^(A)by grace you have been saved ^(B)through faith. And this is ^(C)not your own doing; ^(D)it is the gift of God, ^9 (E)not a result of works, ^(F)so that no one may boast. ¹⁰ For ^(G)we are his workmanship, ^(H)created in Christ Jesus ^(I)for good works, ^(J)which God prepared beforehand, ^(K)that we should walk in them.
