¹⁴ And ^(A)as Moses lifted up the serpent in the wilderness, so must the Son of Man ^(B)be lifted up,

^7 (A)And the people came to Moses and said, “We have sinned, for we have spoken against the Lord and against you. ^(B)Pray to the Lord, that he take away the serpents from us.” So Moses prayed for the people. ⁸ And the Lord said to Moses, “Make a fiery serpent and set it on a pole, and everyone who is bitten, when he sees it, shall live.” ⁹ So ^(C)Moses made a bronze^[a] serpent and set it on a pole. And if a serpent bit anyone, he would look at the bronze serpent and live.

²⁸ So Jesus said to them, “When you have ^(A)lifted up the Son of Man, ^(B)then you will know that ^(C)I am he, and that ^(D)I do nothing on my own authority, but ^(E)speak just as the Father taught me.

³² And I, ^(A)when I am lifted up from the earth, ^(B)will draw ^(C)all people to myself.” ³³ He said this ^(D)to show by what kind of death he was going to die. ³⁴ So the crowd answered him, “We have heard from the Law that ^(E)the Christ remains forever. How can you say that ^(F)the Son of Man must be lifted up? Who is this Son of Man?”

^26 (A)Was it not necessary that ^(B)the Christ should suffer these things and enter into ^(C)his glory?” ²⁷ And ^(D)beginning with ^(E)Moses and ^(F)all the Prophets, he interpreted to them in all the Scriptures the things concerning himself.

⁴⁴ Then he said to them, ^(A)“These are my words that I spoke to you while I was still with you, ^(B)that everything written about me in the Law of Moses and the Prophets and the Psalms must be fulfilled.” ⁴⁵ Then ^(C)he opened their minds to understand the Scriptures, ⁴⁶ and said to them, “Thus ^(D)it is written, ^(E)that the Christ should suffer and on the third day ^(F)rise from the dead,

^54 (A)But how then should the Scriptures be fulfilled, that it must be so?”

²³ this Jesus,^{[a] (A)}delivered up according to ^(B)the definite plan and ^(C)foreknowledge of God, ^(D)you crucified and killed by the hands of lawless men.
