Jesús es condenado a la muerte
19 Entonces Pilato ordenó que llevaran a Jesús y lo azotaran. 2 Los soldados no sólo cumplieron la orden sino que también hicieron una corona de espinas y se la colocaron en la cabeza. Luego le pusieron un manto de color morado, 3 se acercaban y le decían:
—¡Viva el rey de los judíos!
Y le daban bofetadas.
4 Pilato salió otra vez y les dijo:
—Miren, aquí lo traigo, para que sepan que yo no encuentro ningún delito en este caso.
5 Entonces Jesús salió con la corona de espinas y el manto de color rojo oscuro. Pilato dijo:
—¡Aquí está el hombre!
6 Cuando lo vieron, los jefes de los sacerdotes y los guardias gritaron:
—¡Crucifícalo! ¡Crucifícalo!
Pilato les dijo:
—¡Llévenselo ustedes y crucifíquenlo! Yo no he podido encontrar nada contra él.
7 Los líderes judíos le contestaron:
—Tenemos una ley y según la ley él debe morir porque se ha hecho pasar por Hijo de Dios.
8 Después de escuchar esto, Pilato se asustó más. 9 Entró de nuevo al palacio y le dijo a Jesús:
—¿De dónde eres?
Pero Jesús no le respondió.
10 Entonces Pilato le dijo:
—¿No vas a hablarme? ¿Acaso no sabes que yo tengo la autoridad para dejarte libre o para matarte en una cruz?
11 Jesús le contestó:
—No tienes ninguna autoridad sobre mí a menos que te la haya dado Dios. Por esto, el hombre que me entregó a ti es más culpable que tú.
12 Desde ese momento, Pilato trataba de encontrar una manera de dejarlo en libertad, pero los judíos gritaban:
—¡Si lo dejas libre, no eres amigo del emperador! ¡Todo el que se hace rey, se opone al emperador!
13 Cuando Pilato escuchó estas palabras, sacó a Jesús y se sentó en la silla del juez. El lugar era el Pavimento de Piedra (que en arameo se dice Gabatá). 14 Era casi el mediodía del día de preparación para la Pascua. Pilato les dijo a los judíos:
—¡Aquí está su rey!
15 Entonces gritaban:
—¡Fuera! ¡Fuera! ¡Crucifícalo!
Pilato les dijo:
—¿Crucifico a su rey?
Los jefes de los sacerdotes respondieron:
—¡Nosotros no tenemos más rey que el emperador!
16 Entonces Pilato se lo entregó a ellos para que lo crucificaran.
Crucifixión de Jesús
(Mt 27:32-44; Mr 15:21-32; Lc 23:26-39)
Así que los soldados se hicieron cargo de Jesús. 17 Él cargó su propia cruz hasta llegar al sitio llamado Lugar de la Calavera (que en arameo se dice Gólgota). 18 Allí lo clavaron a una cruz junto a otros dos hombres, uno a cada lado.
19 Pilato les dijo que escribieran un letrero que decía: «Jesús de Nazaret, Rey de los judíos» y lo hizo colocar en la cruz. 20 Muchos de los judíos leyeron el letrero, porque el lugar donde fue crucificado Jesús estaba cerca de la ciudad. Estaba escrito en hebreo, griego y latín. 21 Los jefes de los sacerdotes judíos le decían a Pilato:
—No escribas “Rey de los judíos”, sino más bien: “Este hombre dijo: Yo soy el rey de los judíos”.
22 Pilato contestó:
—Lo escrito, escrito está.
23 Después de que crucificaron a Jesús, los soldados le quitaron la ropa. La repartieron en cuatro partes, una para cada soldado. También tomaron su túnica pero no tenía costura. Era una túnica tejida en una sola pieza de arriba a abajo. 24 (A)Entonces se dijeron unos a otros:
—No la rompamos, más bien echémosla a la suerte para ver quién se queda con ella.
Esto sucedió para que se cumpliera lo que dice en la Escritura:
«Dividieron mi ropa entre ellos
y echaron mi túnica a la suerte».[a]
Eso fue lo que hicieron los soldados.
25 Cerca de la cruz de Jesús estaban su mamá y su tía María, la esposa de Cleofás, y María Magdalena. 26 Cuando Jesús vio que su mamá estaba cerca, junto al seguidor que él tanto quería, le dijo a su mamá:
—Mamá[b], ahí tienes a tu hijo.
27 Después le dijo al seguidor:
—Ahí tienes a tu mamá.
Desde ese momento ese seguidor se la llevó a vivir a su casa.
Muerte de Jesús
(Mt 27:45-56; Mr 15:33-41; Lc 23:44-49)
28 Después de esto, Jesús supo que había hecho todo lo que tenía que hacer. Entonces, para que se cumpliera la Escritura, dijo:
—Tengo sed.[c]
29 Mojaron una esponja en el vinagre de un frasco que había ahí. La colocaron en una rama de hisopo y se la acercaron a la boca.
30 Jesús bebió el vinagre y dijo:
—Todo está cumplido.
Entonces inclinó su cabeza y murió.
31 Era día de preparación para la Pascua, y los cuerpos no debían estar en las cruces en día de descanso. Entonces los líderes de los judíos le pidieron a Pilato que les quebraran las piernas y que quitaran los cuerpos de las cruces. 32 Después llegaron los soldados y les quebraron las piernas al primer hombre y al otro que habían crucificado con él. 33 Pero cuando se acercaron a Jesús vieron que ya estaba muerto, así que a él no le quebraron las piernas, 34 sino que uno de los soldados le abrió el costado con una lanza, y al instante salió sangre y agua. 35 El que lo vio da testimonio de esto y su testimonio es verídico. Sabe que dice la verdad para que ustedes también crean. 36 (B)Esto pasó para que se cumpliera lo que dice la Escritura: «No se romperá ninguno de sus huesos».[d] 37 (C)Y también, otra Escritura dice: «Ellos mirarán al que abrieron con lanza».[e]
Jesús es sepultado
(Mt 27:57-61; Mr 15:42-47; Lc 23:50-56)
38 Después de esto, José de Arimatea le pidió permiso a Pilato para llevarse el cuerpo de Jesús. José era seguidor de Jesús, pero en secreto porque tenía miedo de los líderes de los judíos. Pilato le dio permiso y él fue y se llevó el cuerpo. 39 Vino también Nicodemo, el mismo que antes había visitado a Jesús de noche, trayendo una mezcla de mirra y áloes. La mezcla pesaba unos 30 kilos[f]. 40 Entonces tomaron el cuerpo de Jesús y lo envolvieron en vendas de lino junto con las especias. Era la forma acostumbrada en un entierro judío. 41 En el lugar donde crucificaron a Jesús había un huerto, y allí había un sepulcro nuevo donde todavía no se había enterrado a nadie. 42 Los judíos se preparaban para el día de descanso. Como el sepulcro estaba cerca, pusieron a Jesús ahí.

19 Pagkatapos ay ipinakuha niya si Jesus at ipinahagupit. 2 Gumawa ng koronang tinik ang mga kawal at inilagay ito sa kanyang ulo, at isinuot sa kanya ang isang balabal na kulay ube. 3 Lumapit sila sa kanya at nagsabing, “Mabuhay ang hari ng mga Judio!” at siya'y kanilang pinagsasampal. 4 Muling lumabas si Pilato at sinabi sa kanila, “Tingnan ninyo, ilalabas ko siya sa inyo upang malaman ninyo na wala akong nakitang anumang dahilan laban sa kanya.” 5 Kaya lumabas si Jesus, suot ang koronang tinik at kulay ubeng balabal. Sinabi sa kanila ni Pilato, “Masdan ninyo ang taong ito!” 6 Nang makita siya ng mga punong pari at ng mga kawal, sumigaw sila, “Ipako siya sa krus! Ipako siya sa krus!” Sinabi ni Pilato sa kanila, “Kunin ninyo siya at kayo ang magpako sa kanya; wala akong nakitang anuman laban sa kanya.” 7 Sumagot ang mga Judio sa kanya, “Mayroon kaming batas, at ayon sa batas na iyon kailangan siyang mamatay sapagkat inaangkin niyang siya ay Anak ng Diyos.” 8 Nang marinig ito ni Pilato, lalo siyang natakot. 9 Pumasok muli siya ng punong-himpilan at tinanong si Jesus, “Tagasaan ka ba?” Ngunit hindi sumagot si Jesus. 10 Kaya sinabi sa kanya ni Pilato, “Ayaw mo ba akong kausapin? Hindi mo ba alam na ako'y may kapangyarihang palayain ka at ipapako sa krus?” 11 (A)Sumagot si Jesus, “Hindi ako saklaw ng iyong kapangyarihan malibang ibigay ito sa iyo mula sa itaas. Dahil dito, mas mabigat ang kasalanan ng nagdala sa akin sa iyo.” 12 Mula noon, humanap ng paraan si Pilato na palayain siya, ngunit nagsisigaw ang mga Judio, “Kung palalayain mo ang taong ito, hindi ka kakampi ng Emperador.[a] Sinumang nag-aangking siya'y hari ay kumakalaban sa Emperador.” 13 Nang marinig ito ni Pilato, dinala niya si Jesus sa labas at naupo siya sa upuan ng hukom, sa lugar na tinatawag na Platapormang Bato, na sa Hebreo ay Gabbatha. 14 Araw noon ng Paghahanda para sa Paskuwa, at magtatanghaling tapat na. Sinabi ni Pilato sa mga Judio, “Masdan ninyo ang inyong hari!” 15 Kaya sumigaw sila, “Alisin! Alisin ang taong iyan! Ipako siya sa krus!” Tinanong sila ni Pilato, “Ipapako ko ba sa krus ang inyong hari?” Sumagot ang mga punong pari, “Wala kaming hari kundi ang Emperador.” 16 Kaya ibinigay ni Pilato si Jesus sa kanila upang ipako sa krus.
Ang Pagpako kay Jesus sa Krus
Kinuha nga nila si Jesus. 17 Habang pasan ni Jesus ang krus, lumabas siya tungo sa Lugar ng Bungo, na sa Hebreo ay tinatawag na Golgotha. 18 Ipinako nila roon si Jesus, kasama ang dalawa pa, ang isa ay nasa kanan niya, at ang isa ay sa kaliwa. 19 Sumulat si Pilato ng ganitong pahayag at inilagay sa krus: “Si Jesus na taga-Nazareth, ang Hari ng mga Judio.” 20 Nakasulat ito sa wikang Hebreo, Latin at Griyego. Maraming Judio ang nakabasa sa pahayag na ito sapagkat malapit sa lungsod ang lugar na pinagpakuan kay Jesus. 21 Kaya sinabi ng mga punong pari kay Pilato, “Huwag mong isulat, ‘Ang Hari ng mga Judio,’ kundi, ‘Sinabi ng taong ito, “Ako ang Hari ng mga Judio.” ’ ” 22 Sumagot si Pilato, “Ang naisulat ko ay naisulat ko na.” 23 Pagkatapos ipako ng mga kawal si Jesus, kinuha nila ang damit niya at hinati ito sa apat na bahagi, isa para sa bawat kawal. Kinuha rin nila ang kanyang damit-panloob; wala itong tahi at hinabi nang buo mula sa itaas. 24 (B)Kaya sinabi nila sa isa't isa, “Huwag natin itong punitin; magpalabunutan na lang tayo kung kanino ito mapupunta.” Naganap ito upang matupad ang sinasabi ng Kasulatan,
“Pinaghati-hatian nila ang aking kasuotan, at para sa aking damit sila'y nagpalabunutan.”
Gayon nga ang ginawa ng mga kawal. 25 Samantala, nakatayong malapit sa krus ni Jesus ang kanyang ina, ang kapatid nitong si Maria na asawa ni Cleopas, at si Maria Magdalena. 26 Nang makita ni Jesus ang kanyang ina at ang alagad na kanyang minamahal na nakatayo sa tabi nito, sinabi niya sa kanyang ina, “Ginang, narito ang iyong anak.” 27 At sinabi niya sa alagad, “Narito ang iyong ina.” At mula noon, kinupkop na ng alagad si Maria sa kanyang tahanan.
Ang Pagkamatay ni Jesus
28 (C)Pagkatapos nito, nang malaman ni Jesus na ang lahat ay naganap na, sinabi niya, upang matupad ang Kasulatan, “Nauuhaw ako.” 29 Isang sisidlang puno ng maasim na alak ang naroon. Kaya isinawsaw nila sa maasim na alak ang isang espongha at inilagay ito sa sanga ng isopo at inilapit sa bibig ni Jesus. 30 Matapos tanggapin ni Jesus ang alak, sinabi niya, “Naganap na.” Pagkatapos, yumuko siya at isinuko ang kanyang espiritu.
Ang Pagtusok sa Tagiliran ni Jesus
31 Dahil araw noon ng Paghahanda, ayaw ng mga Judio na manatili ang mga bangkay sa krus sa araw ng Sabbath, lalo na't ang Sabbath na iyon ay dakila. Kaya hiniling nila kay Pilato na baliin ang mga binti ng mga nakapako sa krus at alisin ang mga bangkay. 32 Kaya dumating ang mga kawal at binali ang mga binti ng una at ng isa pang lalaki na kasama ni Jesus na ipinako. 33 Subalit nang dumating sila kay Jesus at nakitang siya ay patay na, hindi na nila binali ang kanyang mga binti. 34 Tinusok na lang ng sibat ang kanyang tagiliran ng isang kawal, at kaagad na lumabas ang dugo at tubig. 35 (Siya na nakakita nito ay nagpapatotoo upang kayo ay maniwala. Ang kanyang pagpapatunay ay totoo, at alam niya na totoo ang kanyang sinasabi.) 36 (D)Nangyari ang mga ito upang maganap ang Kasulatan, “Wala ni isa man sa kanyang mga buto ang babaliin.” 37 (E)At muli, sinasabi rin ng isa pang bahagi ng Kasulatan, “Pagmamasdan nila ang tinusok nila ng sibat.”
Ang Paglilibing kay Jesus
38 Pagkatapos ng mga ito, hiniling ni Jose na taga-Arimatea na payagan siyang kunin ang katawan ni Jesus. Siya ay isang lihim na alagad ni Jesus dahil sa takot sa mga pinuno ng mga Judio. Pumayag si Pilato, kaya pumunta si Jose at tinanggal ang katawan ni Jesus sa krus. 39 (F)Dumating din si Nicodemo, na nagpunta noon kay Jesus isang gabi. May dala siyang mga pabango, na pinaghalong mira at mga aloe na may isang daang libra ang timbang. 40 Kinuha nila ang katawan ni Jesus at binalot ito ng mga telang may pabango ayon sa kaugalian ng mga Judio sa paglilibing. 41 May halamanan sa lugar na pinagpakuan kay Jesus. Doon ay may isang libingang kailanman ay hindi pa nagagamit. 42 Dahil ang libingan ay di-kalayuan, at noon ay araw ng Paghahanda ng mga Judio, doon nila inilibing si Jesus.

Jesus Sentenced to Be Crucified(A)
19 Then Pilate took Jesus and had him flogged.(B) 2 The soldiers twisted together a crown of thorns and put it on his head. They clothed him in a purple robe 3 and went up to him again and again, saying, “Hail, king of the Jews!”(C) And they slapped him in the face.(D)
4 Once more Pilate came out and said to the Jews gathered there, “Look, I am bringing him out(E) to you to let you know that I find no basis for a charge against him.”(F) 5 When Jesus came out wearing the crown of thorns and the purple robe,(G) Pilate said to them, “Here is the man!”
6 As soon as the chief priests and their officials saw him, they shouted, “Crucify! Crucify!”
But Pilate answered, “You take him and crucify him.(H) As for me, I find no basis for a charge against him.”(I)
7 The Jewish leaders insisted, “We have a law, and according to that law he must die,(J) because he claimed to be the Son of God.”(K)
8 When Pilate heard this, he was even more afraid, 9 and he went back inside the palace.(L) “Where do you come from?” he asked Jesus, but Jesus gave him no answer.(M) 10 “Do you refuse to speak to me?” Pilate said. “Don’t you realize I have power either to free you or to crucify you?”
11 Jesus answered, “You would have no power over me if it were not given to you from above.(N) Therefore the one who handed me over to you(O) is guilty of a greater sin.”
12 From then on, Pilate tried to set Jesus free, but the Jewish leaders kept shouting, “If you let this man go, you are no friend of Caesar. Anyone who claims to be a king(P) opposes Caesar.”
13 When Pilate heard this, he brought Jesus out and sat down on the judge’s seat(Q) at a place known as the Stone Pavement (which in Aramaic(R) is Gabbatha). 14 It was the day of Preparation(S) of the Passover; it was about noon.(T)
“Here is your king,”(U) Pilate said to the Jews.
15 But they shouted, “Take him away! Take him away! Crucify him!”
“Shall I crucify your king?” Pilate asked.
“We have no king but Caesar,” the chief priests answered.
16 Finally Pilate handed him over to them to be crucified.(V)
The Crucifixion of Jesus(W)
So the soldiers took charge of Jesus. 17 Carrying his own cross,(X) he went out to the place of the Skull(Y) (which in Aramaic(Z) is called Golgotha). 18 There they crucified him, and with him two others(AA)—one on each side and Jesus in the middle.
19 Pilate had a notice prepared and fastened to the cross. It read: jesus of nazareth,(AB) the king of the jews.(AC) 20 Many of the Jews read this sign, for the place where Jesus was crucified was near the city,(AD) and the sign was written in Aramaic, Latin and Greek. 21 The chief priests of the Jews protested to Pilate, “Do not write ‘The King of the Jews,’ but that this man claimed to be king of the Jews.”(AE)
22 Pilate answered, “What I have written, I have written.”
23 When the soldiers crucified Jesus, they took his clothes, dividing them into four shares, one for each of them, with the undergarment remaining. This garment was seamless, woven in one piece from top to bottom.
24 “Let’s not tear it,” they said to one another. “Let’s decide by lot who will get it.”
This happened that the scripture might be fulfilled(AF) that said,
So this is what the soldiers did.
25 Near the cross(AH) of Jesus stood his mother,(AI) his mother’s sister, Mary the wife of Clopas, and Mary Magdalene.(AJ) 26 When Jesus saw his mother(AK) there, and the disciple whom he loved(AL) standing nearby, he said to her, “Woman,[b] here is your son,” 27 and to the disciple, “Here is your mother.” From that time on, this disciple took her into his home.
The Death of Jesus(AM)
28 Later, knowing that everything had now been finished,(AN) and so that Scripture would be fulfilled,(AO) Jesus said, “I am thirsty.” 29 A jar of wine vinegar(AP) was there, so they soaked a sponge in it, put the sponge on a stalk of the hyssop plant, and lifted it to Jesus’ lips. 30 When he had received the drink, Jesus said, “It is finished.”(AQ) With that, he bowed his head and gave up his spirit.
31 Now it was the day of Preparation,(AR) and the next day was to be a special Sabbath. Because the Jewish leaders did not want the bodies left on the crosses(AS) during the Sabbath, they asked Pilate to have the legs broken and the bodies taken down. 32 The soldiers therefore came and broke the legs of the first man who had been crucified with Jesus, and then those of the other.(AT) 33 But when they came to Jesus and found that he was already dead, they did not break his legs. 34 Instead, one of the soldiers pierced(AU) Jesus’ side with a spear, bringing a sudden flow of blood and water.(AV) 35 The man who saw it(AW) has given testimony, and his testimony is true.(AX) He knows that he tells the truth, and he testifies so that you also may believe. 36 These things happened so that the scripture would be fulfilled:(AY) “Not one of his bones will be broken,”[c](AZ) 37 and, as another scripture says, “They will look on the one they have pierced.”[d](BA)
The Burial of Jesus(BB)
38 Later, Joseph of Arimathea asked Pilate for the body of Jesus. Now Joseph was a disciple of Jesus, but secretly because he feared the Jewish leaders.(BC) With Pilate’s permission, he came and took the body away. 39 He was accompanied by Nicodemus,(BD) the man who earlier had visited Jesus at night. Nicodemus brought a mixture of myrrh and aloes, about seventy-five pounds.[e] 40 Taking Jesus’ body, the two of them wrapped it, with the spices, in strips of linen.(BE) This was in accordance with Jewish burial customs.(BF) 41 At the place where Jesus was crucified, there was a garden, and in the garden a new tomb, in which no one had ever been laid. 42 Because it was the Jewish day of Preparation(BG) and since the tomb was nearby,(BH) they laid Jesus there.
