Jesus Prays for Himself
17 Jesus spoke these things, looked up to heaven, and said, “Father, the hour has come. Glorify your Son so that the Son(A) may glorify you,(B) 2 since you gave him authority over all people,[a](C) so that he may give eternal life(D) to everyone you have given him.(E) 3 This is eternal life: that they may know you, the only(F) true(G) God, and the one you have sent(H) —Jesus Christ.(I) 4 I have glorified you on the earth by completing the work you gave me to do. 5 Now, Father,(J) glorify me in your presence with that glory(K) I had with you before the world existed.(L)

6 “I have revealed your name(M) to the people you gave me(N) from the world.(O) They were yours, you gave them to me,(P) and they have kept your word.(Q) 7 Now they know that everything you have given me is from you, 8 because I have given them the words you gave me.(R) They have received them and have known for certain that I came from you.(S) They have believed that you sent me.
9 “I pray[b] for them. I am not praying for the world but for those you have given me,(T) because they are yours. 10 Everything I have is yours, and everything you have is mine,(U) and I am glorified in them. 11 I am no longer in the world, but they are in the world, and I am coming to you.(V) Holy(W) Father, protect[c] them by your name(X) that you have given me, so that they may be one(Y) as we are(Z) one. 12 While I was with them, I was protecting them by your name that you have given me. I guarded(AA) them and not one of them is lost, except the son of destruction,[d] so that the Scripture(AB) may be fulfilled.(AC) 13 Now I am coming to you, and I speak these things in the world so that they may have my joy completed in them. 14 I have given them your word. The world hated(AD) them because they are not of the world,(AE) just as I am not of the world.(AF) 15 I am not praying that you take them out of the world but that you protect them from the evil one.(AG) 16 They are not of the world, just as I am not of the world.(AH) 17 Sanctify(AI) them by the truth; (AJ) your word is truth. 18 As you sent me into the world,(AK) I also have sent them into the world. 19 I sanctify myself for them, so that they also may be sanctified by the truth.

20 “I pray not only for these, but also for those who believe in me through their word. 21 May they all be one,(AL) as you, Father, are in me and I am in you.(AM) May they also be[e] in us, so that the world may believe you sent me. 22 I have given them the glory(AN) you have given me, so that they may be one as we are one. 23 I am in them and you are in me,(AO) so that they may be made completely one, that the world may know you have sent me and have loved(AP) them as you have loved me.(AQ)
24 “Father, I want those you have given me to be with me where I am,(AR) so that they will see my glory, which you have given me because you loved me before the world’s foundation. 25 Righteous Father, the world has not known you. However, I have known you,(AS) and they have known that you sent me. 26 I made your name(AT) known to them and will continue to make it known, so that the love you have loved me with may be in them and I may be in them.”(AU)

The High Priestly Prayer
17 When Jesus had spoken these words, (A)he lifted up his eyes to heaven, and said, “Father, (B)the hour has come; (C)glorify your Son that the Son may (D)glorify you, 2 since (E)you have given him authority over all flesh, (F)to give eternal life to all (G)whom you have given him. 3 (H)And this is eternal life, (I)that they know you, (J)the only (K)true God, and (L)Jesus Christ whom you have sent. 4 I (M)glorified you on earth, (N)having accomplished the work that you gave me to do. 5 And now, Father, (O)glorify me in your own presence with the glory (P)that I had with you (Q)before the world existed.
6 (R)“I have manifested your name to the people (S)whom you gave me out of the world. (T)Yours they were, and you gave them to me, and they have kept your word. 7 Now they know that everything (U)that you have given me is from you. 8 For I have given them (V)the words that you gave me, and they have received them and have come to know in truth that (W)I came from you; and (X)they have believed that you sent me. 9 I am praying for them. 20 “I do not (BG)ask for these only, but also for those (BH)who will believe in me through their word, 21 (BI)that they may all be one, just as you, Father, are in me, and I in you, that (BJ)they also may be in (BK)us, so that the world (BL)may believe that you have sent me. 22 (BM)The glory that you have given me (BN)I have given to them, (BO)that they may be one even as we are one, 23 (BP)I in them and you in me, (BQ)that they may become perfectly one, (BR)so that the world may know that you sent me and (BS)loved them even as (BT)you loved me. 24 Father, I desire that they also, whom you have given me, may be (BU)with me (BV)where I am, (BW)to see my glory that you have given me because you loved me (BX)before the foundation of the world. 25 (BY)O righteous Father, even though (BZ)the world does not know you, I know you, and these know that you have sent me. 26 (CA)I made known to them your name, and I will continue to make it known, that the love (CB)with which you have loved me may be in them, and (CC)I in them.”

17 When Jesus finished saying these things, he looked up to heaven and said, “Father, the time has come. Glorify your Son, so that the Son can glorify you. 2 You gave him authority over everyone so that he could give eternal life to everyone you gave him. 3 This is eternal life: to know you, the only true God, and Jesus Christ whom you sent. 4 I have glorified you on earth by finishing the work you gave me to do. 5 Now, Father, glorify me in your presence with the glory I shared with you before the world was created.
6 “I have revealed your name to the people you gave me from this world. They were yours and you gave them to me, and they have kept your word. 7 Now they know that everything you have given me comes from you. 8 This is because I gave them the words that you gave me, and they received them. They truly understood that I came from you, and they believed that you sent me.
9 “I’m praying for them. I’m not praying for the world but for those you gave me, because they are yours. 10 Everything that is mine is yours and everything that is yours is mine; I have been glorified in them. 11 I’m no longer in the world, but they are in the world, even as I’m coming to you. Holy Father, watch over them in your name, the name you gave me, that they will be one just as we are one. 12 When I was with them, I watched over them in your name, the name you gave to me, and I kept them safe. None of them were lost, except the one who was destined for destruction, so that scripture would be fulfilled. 13 Now I’m coming to you and I say these things while I’m in the world so that they can share completely in my joy. 14 I gave your word to them and the world hated them, because they don’t belong to this world, just as I don’t belong to this world. 15 I’m not asking that you take them out of this world but that you keep them safe from the evil one. 16 They don’t belong to this world, just as I don’t belong to this world. 17 Make them holy in the truth; your word is truth. 18 As you sent me into the world, so I have sent them into the world. 19 I made myself holy on their behalf so that they also would be made holy in the truth.
20 “I’m not praying only for them but also for those who believe in me because of their word. 21 I pray they will be one, Father, just as you are in me and I am in you. I pray that they also will be in us, so that the world will believe that you sent me. 22 I’ve given them the glory that you gave me so that they can be one just as we are one. 23 I’m in them and you are in me so that they will be made perfectly one. Then the world will know that you sent me and that you have loved them just as you loved me.
24 “Father, I want those you gave me to be with me where I am. Then they can see my glory, which you gave me because you loved me before the creation of the world.
25 “Righteous Father, even the world didn’t know you, but I’ve known you, and these believers know that you sent me. 26 I’ve made your name known to them and will continue to make it known so that your love for me will be in them, and I myself will be in them.”
