²⁰ Very truly, I tell you, you will weep and mourn, but the world will rejoice; you will have pain, but your pain will turn into joy.

Faith and Wisdom

² My brothers and sisters, whenever you face various trials, consider it all joy,^(A)

⁴ “Blessed are those who mourn, for they will be comforted.^(A)

¹⁰ She went out and told those who had been with him, while they were mourning and weeping.

¹⁴ I said to him, “Sir, you are the one who knows.” Then he said to me, “These are they who have come out of the great ordeal; they have washed their robes and made them white in the blood of the Lamb.^(A)

Benediction

²⁴ Now to him who is able to keep you from falling and to make you stand without blemish in the presence of his glory with rejoicing,^(A)

⁶ In this you rejoice,^[a] even if now for a little while you have had to suffer various trials,^{(A) 7} so that the genuineness of your faith—being more precious than gold that, though perishable, is tested by fire—may be found to result in praise and glory and honor when Jesus Christ is revealed.^{(B) 8} Although you have not seen^[b] him, you love him, and even though you do not see him now, you believe in him and rejoice with an indescribable and glorious joy,^(C)

²¹ But we had hoped that he was the one to redeem Israel.^[a] Yes, and besides all this, it is now the third day since these things took place.^(A)

²⁷ A great number of the people followed him, and among them were women who were beating their breasts and wailing for him.^(A)
