The Lord’s Supper
13 Now before the Feast of (A)the Passover, Jesus knowing that (B)His hour had come that He would depart out of this world (C)to the Father, having loved His own who were in the world, He loved them [a]to the end. 2 During supper, (D)the devil having already put into the heart of (E)Judas Iscariot, the son of Simon, to betray Him, 3 Jesus, (F)knowing that the Father had given all things into His hands, and that (G)He had come forth from God and was going back to God, 4 *got up from supper, and *laid aside His garments; and taking a towel, He (H)girded Himself.
Jesus Washes the Disciples’ Feet
5 Then He *poured water into the basin, and began to (I)wash the disciples’ feet and to wipe them with the towel with which He was girded. 6 So He *came to Simon Peter. He *said to Him, “Lord, do You wash my feet?” 7 Jesus answered and said to him, “What I do you do not realize now, but you will understand (J)hereafter.” 8 Peter *said to Him, “Never shall You wash my feet!” Jesus answered him, “(K)If I do not wash you, (L)you have no part with Me.” 9 Simon Peter *said to Him, “Lord, then wash not only my feet, but also my hands and my head.” 10 Jesus *said to him, “He who has bathed needs only to wash his feet, but is completely clean; and (M)you are clean, but not all of you.” 11 For (N)He knew the one who was betraying Him; for this reason He said, “Not all of you are clean.”
12 So when He had washed their feet, and (O)taken His garments and reclined at the table again, He said to them, “Do you know what I have done to you? 13 You call Me (P)Teacher and (Q)Lord; and [b]you are right, for so I am. 14 If I then, (R)the Lord and the Teacher, washed your feet, you also ought to wash one another’s feet. 15 For I gave you (S)an example that you also should do as I did to you. 16 Truly, truly, I say to you, (T)a slave is not greater than his master, nor is (U)one who is sent greater than the one who sent him. 17 If you know these things, you are (V)blessed if you do them. 18 (W)I do not speak of all of you. I know the ones I have (X)chosen; but it is (Y)that the Scripture may be fulfilled, ‘(Z)He who eats My bread has lifted up his heel against Me.’ 19 From now on (AA)I am telling you before it comes to pass, so that when it does occur, you may believe that (AB)I am He. 20 Truly, truly, I say to you, (AC)he who receives whomever I send receives Me; and he who receives Me receives Him who sent Me.”
Jesus Predicts His Betrayal
21 When Jesus had said this, He (AD)became troubled in spirit, and testified and said, “Truly, truly, I say to you, that (AE)one of you will [c]betray Me.” 22 The disciples began looking at one another, (AF)at a loss to know of which one He was speaking. 23 There was reclining on (AG)Jesus’ bosom one of His disciples, (AH)whom Jesus loved. 24 So Simon Peter *gestured to him, and *said to him, “Tell us who it is of whom He is speaking.” 25 He, (AI)leaning back thus on Jesus’ bosom, *said to Him, “Lord, who is it?” 26 Jesus then *answered, “That is the one for whom I shall dip the morsel and give it to him.” So when He had dipped the morsel, He *took and *gave it to Judas, (AJ)the son of Simon Iscariot. 27 After the morsel, (AK)Satan then (AL)entered into him. Therefore Jesus *said to him, “What you do, do quickly.” 28 Now no one of those reclining at the table knew for what purpose He had said this to him. 29 For some were supposing, because Judas (AM)had the money box, that Jesus was saying to him, “Buy the things we have need of (AN)for the feast”; or else, that he should (AO)give something to the poor. 30 So after receiving the morsel he went out immediately; and (AP)it was night.
31 Therefore when he had gone out, Jesus *said, “Now [d]is (AQ)the Son of Man (AR)glorified, and (AS)God [e]is glorified in Him; 32 [f]if God is glorified in Him, (AT)God will also glorify Him in Himself, and will glorify Him immediately. 33 (AU)Little children, I am with you (AV)a little while longer. (AW)You will seek Me; and as I said to the Jews, now I also say to you, ‘Where I am going, you cannot come.’ 34 A (AX)new commandment I give to you, (AY)that you love one another, (AZ)even as I have loved you, that you also love one another. 35 (BA)By this all men will know that you are My disciples, if you have love for one another.”
36 Simon Peter *said to Him, “Lord, where are You going?” Jesus answered, “(BB)Where I go, you cannot follow Me now; but (BC)you will follow later.” 37 Peter *said to Him, “Lord, why can I not follow You right now? (BD)I will lay down my life for You.” 38 Jesus *answered, “Will you lay down your life for Me? Truly, truly, I say to you, (BE)a rooster will not crow until you deny Me three times.
Jesus Comforts His Disciples
14 “(BF)Do not let your heart be troubled; [g]believe in God, believe also in Me. 2 In My Father’s house are many dwelling places; if it were not so, I would have told you; for (BG)I go to prepare a place for you. 3 If I go and prepare a place for you, (BH)I will come again and receive you to Myself, that (BI)where I am, there you may be also. 4 And you know the way where I am going.” 5 (BJ)Thomas *said to Him, “Lord, we do not know where You are going, how do we know the way?” 6 Jesus *said to him, “I am (BK)the way, and (BL)the truth, and (BM)the life; no one comes to the Father but through Me.
Oneness with the Father
7 (BN)If you had known Me, you would have known My Father also; from now on you (BO)know Him, and have (BP)seen Him.”
8 (BQ)Philip *said to Him, “Lord, show us the Father, and it is enough for us.” 9 Jesus *said to him, “Have I been so long with you, and yet you have not come to know Me, Philip? (BR)He who has seen Me has seen the Father; how can you say, ‘Show us the Father’? 10 Do you not believe that (BS)I am in the Father, and the Father is in Me? (BT)The words that I say to you I do not speak on My own initiative, but the Father abiding in Me does His works. 11 Believe Me that (BU)I am in the Father and the Father is in Me; otherwise (BV)believe because of the works themselves. 12 Truly, truly, I say to you, he who believes in Me, the works that I do, he will do also; and (BW)greater works than these he will do; because (BX)I go to the Father. 13 (BY)Whatever you ask in My name, that will I do, so that (BZ)the Father may be glorified in the Son. 14 If you ask Me anything (CA)in My name, I will do it.
15 “(CB)If you love Me, you will keep My commandments.
Role of the Spirit
16 I will ask the Father, and He will give you another [h](CC)Helper, that He may be with you forever; 17 that is (CD)the Spirit of truth, (CE)whom the world cannot receive, because it does not see Him or know Him, but you know Him because He abides with you and will be in you.
18 “I will not leave you as orphans; (CF)I will come to you. 19 [i](CG)After a little while (CH)the world will no longer see Me, but you will see Me; (CI)because I live, you will live also. 20 (CJ)In that day you will know that (CK)I am in My Father, and you in Me, and I in you. 21 (CL)He who has My commandments and keeps them is the one who loves Me; and (CM)he who loves Me will be loved by My Father, and I will love him and will (CN)disclose Myself to him.” 22 (CO)Judas (not Iscariot) *said to Him, “Lord, what then has happened (CP)that You are going to disclose Yourself to us and not to the world?” 23 Jesus answered and said to him, “(CQ)If anyone loves Me, he will (CR)keep My word; and (CS)My Father will love him, and We (CT)will come to him and make Our abode with him. 24 He who does not love Me (CU)does not keep My words; and (CV)the word which you hear is not Mine, but the Father’s who sent Me.
25 “These things I have spoken to you while abiding with you. 26 But the (CW)Helper, the Holy Spirit, (CX)whom the Father will send in My name, (CY)He will teach you all things, and (CZ)bring to your remembrance all that I said to you. 27 (DA)Peace I leave with you; My peace I give to you; not as the world gives do I give to you. (DB)Do not let your heart be troubled, nor let it be fearful. 28 (DC)You heard that I said to you, ‘I go away, and (DD)I will come to you.’ If you loved Me, you would have rejoiced because (DE)I go to the Father, for (DF)the Father is greater than I. 29 Now (DG)I have told you before it happens, so that when it happens, you may believe. 30 I will not speak much more with you, for (DH)the ruler of the world is coming, and he has nothing in Me; 31 but so that the world may know that I love the Father, [j]I do exactly as (DI)the Father commanded Me. Jesus Is the Vine—Followers Are Branches
15 “(DK)I am the true vine, and My Father is the (DL)vinedresser. 2 Every branch in Me that does not bear fruit, He takes away; and every branch that bears fruit, He [k]prunes it so that it may bear more fruit. 3 (DM)You are already [l]clean because of the word which I have spoken to you. 4 (DN)Abide in Me, and I in you. As the branch cannot bear fruit [m]of itself unless it abides in the vine, so neither can you unless you abide in Me. 5 I am the vine, you are the branches; he who abides in Me and I in him, he (DO)bears much fruit, for apart from Me you can do nothing. 6 If anyone does not abide in Me, he is (DP)thrown away as a branch and dries up; and they gather them, and cast them into the fire and they are burned. 7 If you abide in Me, and My words abide in you, (DQ)ask whatever you wish, and it will be done for you. 8 My (DR)Father is glorified by this, that you bear much fruit, and so [n](DS)prove to be My disciples. 9 Just as (DT)the Father has loved Me, I have also loved you; abide in My love. 10 (DU)If you keep My commandments, you will abide in My love; just as (DV)I have kept My Father’s commandments and abide in His love. 11 (DW)These things I have spoken to you so that My joy may be in you, and that your (DX)joy may be made full.
Disciples’ Relation to Each Other
12 “This is (DY)My commandment, that you love one another, just as I have loved you. 13 (DZ)Greater love has no one than this, that one (EA)lay down his life for his friends. 14 You are My (EB)friends if (EC)you do what I command you. 15 No longer do I call you slaves, for the slave does not know what his master is doing; but I have called you friends, for (ED)all things that I have heard from My Father I have made known to you. 16 (EE)You did not choose Me but I chose you, and appointed you that you would go and (EF)bear fruit, and that your fruit would remain, so that (EG)whatever you ask of the Father in My name He may give to you. 17 This (EH)I command you, that you love one another.
Disciples’ Relation to the World
18 “(EI)If the world hates you, [o]you know that it has hated Me before it hated you. 19 If you were of the world, the world would love its own; but because you are not of the world, but (EJ)I chose you out of the world, (EK)because of this the world hates you. 20 Remember the word that I said to you, ‘(EL)A slave is not greater than his master.’ If they persecuted Me, (EM)they will also persecute you; if they (EN)kept My word, they will keep yours also. 21 But all these things they will do to you (EO)for My name’s sake, (EP)because they do not know the One who sent Me. 22 (EQ)If I had not come and spoken to them, they would not have [p]sin, but now they have no excuse for their sin. 23 He who hates Me hates My Father also. 24 (ER)If I had not done among them (ES)the works which no one else did, they would not have [q]sin; but now they have both seen and hated Me and My Father as well. 25 But they have done this to fulfill the word that is written in their (ET)Law, ‘(EU)They hated Me without a cause.’
26 “When the [r](EV)Helper comes, (EW)whom I will send to you from the Father, that is (EX)the Spirit of truth who proceeds from the Father, (EY)He will testify about Me, 27 [s]and (EZ)you will testify also, because you have been with Me (FA)from the beginning.
Jesus’ Warning
16 “(FB)These things I have spoken to you so that you may be kept from (FC)stumbling. 2 [t]They will (FD)make you outcasts from the synagogue, but (FE)an hour is coming for everyone (FF)who kills you to think that he is offering service to God. 3 These things they will do (FG)because they have not known the Father or Me. 4 But these things I have spoken to you, (FH)so that when their hour comes, you [u]may remember that I told you of them. These things I did not say to you (FI)at the beginning, because I was with you.
The Holy Spirit Promised
5 “But now (FJ)I am going to Him who sent Me; and none of you asks Me, ‘(FK)Where are You going?’ 6 But because I have said these things to you, (FL)sorrow has filled your heart. 7 But I tell you the truth, it is to your advantage that I go away; for if I do not go away, the [v](FM)Helper will not come to you; but if I go, (FN)I will send Him to you. 8 And He, when He comes, will convict the world concerning sin and righteousness and judgment; 9 concerning sin, (FO)because they do not believe in Me; 10 and concerning (FP)righteousness, because (FQ)I go to the Father and you no longer see Me; 11 (FR)and concerning judgment, because the ruler of this world has been judged.
12 “I have many more things to say to you, but you cannot bear them now. 13 But when He, (FS)the Spirit of truth, comes, He will (FT)guide you into all the truth; for He will not speak on His own initiative, but whatever He hears, He will speak; and He will disclose to you what is to come. 14 He will (FU)glorify Me, for He will take of Mine and will disclose it to you. 15 (FV)All things that the Father has are Mine; therefore I said that He takes of Mine and will disclose it to you.
Jesus’ Death and Resurrection Foretold
16 “(FW)A little while, and (FX)you will no longer see Me; and again a little while, and (FY)you will see Me.” 17 Some of His disciples then said to one another, “What is this thing He is telling us, ‘(FZ)A little while, and you will not see Me; and again a little while, and you will see Me’; and, ‘because (GA)I go to the Father’?” 18 So they were saying, “What is this that He says, ‘A little while’? We do not know what He is talking about.” 19 (GB)Jesus knew that they wished to question Him, and He said to them, “Are you deliberating together about this, that I said, ‘A little while, and you will not see Me, and again a little while, and you will see Me’? 20 Truly, truly, I say to you, that (GC)you will weep and lament, but the world will rejoice; you will grieve, but (GD)your grief will be turned into joy. 21 (GE)Whenever a woman is in labor she has [w]pain, because her hour has come; but when she gives birth to the child, she no longer remembers the anguish because of the joy that a [x]child has been born into the world. 22 Therefore (GF)you too have grief now; but (GG)I will see you again, and your heart will rejoice, and no one will take your joy away from you.
Prayer Promises
23 (GH)In that day (GI)you will not question Me about anything. Truly, truly, I say to you, (GJ)if you ask the Father for anything in My name, He will give it to you. 24 (GK)Until now you have asked for nothing in My name; ask and you will receive, so that your (GL)joy may be made full.
25 “These things I have spoken to you in [y](GM)figurative language; (GN)an hour is coming when I will no longer speak to you in [z]figurative language, but will tell you plainly of the Father. 26 (GO)In that day (GP)you will ask in My name, and I do not say to you that I will request of the Father on your behalf; 27 for (GQ)the Father Himself loves you, because you have loved Me and (GR)have believed that (GS)I came forth from the Father. 28 (GT)I came forth from the Father and have come into the world; I am leaving the world again and (GU)going to the Father.”
29 His disciples *said, “Lo, now You are speaking plainly and are not [aa]using (GV)a figure of speech. 30 Now we know that You know all things, and have no need for anyone to question You; by this we (GW)believe that You (GX)came from God.” 31 Jesus answered them, “Do you now believe? 32 Behold, (GY)an hour is coming, and has already come, for (GZ)you to be scattered, each to (HA)his own home, and to leave Me alone; and yet (HB)I am not alone, because the Father is with Me. 33 These things I have spoken to you, so that (HC)in Me you may have peace. (HD)In the world you have tribulation, but (HE)take courage; (HF)I have overcome the world.”
The High Priestly Prayer
17 Jesus spoke these things; and (HG)lifting up His eyes to heaven, He said, “Father, the hour has come; (HH)glorify Your Son, that the Son may glorify You, 2 even as (HI)You gave Him authority over all flesh, that (HJ)to [ab]all whom You have given Him, (HK)He may give eternal life. 3 This is eternal life, that they may know You, (HL)the only true God, and Jesus Christ whom (HM)You have sent. 4 (HN)I glorified You on the earth, [ac](HO)having accomplished the work which You have given Me to do. 5 Now, Father, (HP)glorify Me together with Yourself, with the glory which I had (HQ)with You before the world was.
6 “(HR)I have manifested Your name to the men whom (HS)You gave Me out of the world; they were (HT)Yours and You gave them to Me, and they have (HU)kept Your word. 7 Now they have come to know that everything You have given Me is from You; 8 for (HV)the words which You gave Me (HW)I have given to them; and they received them and truly understood that (HX)I came forth from You, and they believed that (HY)You sent Me. 9 (HZ)I ask on their behalf; (IA)I do not ask on behalf of the world, but of those whom (IB)You have given Me; for (IC)they are Yours; 10 and (ID)all things that are Mine are Yours, and Yours are Mine; and I have been glorified in them. 11 I am no longer in the world; and yet (IE)they themselves are in the world, and (IF)I come to You. (IG)Holy Father, keep them in Your name, the name (IH)which You have given Me, that (II)they may be one even as We are. 12 While I was with them, I was keeping them in Your name (IJ)which You have given Me; and I guarded them and (IK)not one of them perished but (IL)the [ad]son of perdition, so that the (IM)Scripture would be fulfilled.
The Disciples in the World
13 But now (IN)I come to You; and (IO)these things I speak in the world so that they may have My (IP)joy made full in themselves. 14 I have given them Your word; and (IQ)the world has hated them, because (IR)they are not of the world, even as I am not of the world. 15 I do not ask You to take them out of the world, but to keep them [ae]from [af](IS)the evil one. 16 (IT)They are not of the world, even as I am not of the world. 17 (IU)Sanctify them in the truth; Your word is truth. 18 As (IV)You sent Me into the world, (IW)I also have sent them into the world. 19 For their sakes I (IX)sanctify Myself, that they themselves also may be (IY)sanctified (IZ)in truth.
20 “I do not ask on behalf of these alone, but for those also who believe in Me through their word; 21 that they may all be one; (JA)even as You, Father, are in Me and I in You, that they also may be in Us, (JB)so that the world may [ag]believe that (JC)You sent Me.
Their Future Glory
22 The (JD)glory which You have given Me I have given to them, that they may be one, just as We are one; 23 (JE)I in them and You in Me, that they may be perfected [ah]in unity, so that the world may [ai]know that (JF)You sent Me, and (JG)loved them, even as You have loved Me. 24 Father, I desire that (JH)they also, whom You have given Me, (JI)be with Me where I am, so that they may see My (JJ)glory which You have given Me, for You loved Me before (JK)the foundation of the world.
25 “O (JL)righteous Father, [aj]although (JM)the world has not known You, yet I have known You; and these have known that (JN)You sent Me; 26 and (JO)I have made Your name known to them, and will make it known, so that (JP)the love with which You loved Me may be in them, and I in them.”

13 Now before the feast of the passover, when Jesus knew that his hour was come that he should depart out of this world unto the Father, having loved his own which were in the world, he loved them unto the end.
2 And supper being ended, the devil having now put into the heart of Judas Iscariot, Simon's son, to betray him;
3 Jesus knowing that the Father had given all things into his hands, and that he was come from God, and went to God;
4 He riseth from supper, and laid aside his garments; and took a towel, and girded himself.
5 After that he poureth water into a bason, and began to wash the disciples' feet, and to wipe them with the towel wherewith he was girded.
6 Then cometh he to Simon Peter: and Peter saith unto him, Lord, dost thou wash my feet?
7 Jesus answered and said unto him, What I do thou knowest not now; but thou shalt know hereafter.
8 Peter saith unto him, Thou shalt never wash my feet. Jesus answered him, If I wash thee not, thou hast no part with me.
9 Simon Peter saith unto him, Lord, not my feet only, but also my hands and my head.
10 Jesus saith to him, He that is washed needeth not save to wash his feet, but is clean every whit: and ye are clean, but not all.
11 For he knew who should betray him; therefore said he, Ye are not all clean.
12 So after he had washed their feet, and had taken his garments, and was set down again, he said unto them, Know ye what I have done to you?
13 Ye call me Master and Lord: and ye say well; for so I am.
14 If I then, your Lord and Master, have washed your feet; ye also ought to wash one another's feet.
15 For I have given you an example, that ye should do as I have done to you.
16 Verily, verily, I say unto you, The servant is not greater than his lord; neither he that is sent greater than he that sent him.
17 If ye know these things, happy are ye if ye do them.
18 I speak not of you all: I know whom I have chosen: but that the scripture may be fulfilled, He that eateth bread with me hath lifted up his heel against me.
19 Now I tell you before it come, that, when it is come to pass, ye may believe that I am he.
20 Verily, verily, I say unto you, He that receiveth whomsoever I send receiveth me; and he that receiveth me receiveth him that sent me.
21 When Jesus had thus said, he was troubled in spirit, and testified, and said, Verily, verily, I say unto you, that one of you shall betray me.
22 Then the disciples looked one on another, doubting of whom he spake.
23 Now there was leaning on Jesus' bosom one of his disciples, whom Jesus loved.
24 Simon Peter therefore beckoned to him, that he should ask who it should be of whom he spake.
25 He then lying on Jesus' breast saith unto him, Lord, who is it?
26 Jesus answered, He it is, to whom I shall give a sop, when I have dipped it. And when he had dipped the sop, he gave it to Judas Iscariot, the son of Simon.
27 And after the sop Satan entered into him. Then said Jesus unto him, That thou doest, do quickly.
28 Now no man at the table knew for what intent he spake this unto him.
29 For some of them thought, because Judas had the bag, that Jesus had said unto him, Buy those things that we have need of against the feast; or, that he should give something to the poor.
30 He then having received the sop went immediately out: and it was night.
31 Therefore, when he was gone out, Jesus said, Now is the Son of man glorified, and God is glorified in him.
32 If God be glorified in him, God shall also glorify him in himself, and shall straightway glorify him.
33 Little children, yet a little while I am with you. Ye shall seek me: and as I said unto the Jews, Whither I go, ye cannot come; so now I say to you.
34 A new commandment I give unto you, That ye love one another; as I have loved you, that ye also love one another.
35 By this shall all men know that ye are my disciples, if ye have love one to another.
36 Simon Peter said unto him, Lord, whither goest thou? Jesus answered him, Whither I go, thou canst not follow me now; but thou shalt follow me afterwards.
37 Peter said unto him, Lord, why cannot I follow thee now? I will lay down my life for thy sake.
38 Jesus answered him, Wilt thou lay down thy life for my sake? Verily, verily, I say unto thee, The cock shall not crow, till thou hast denied me thrice.
14 Let not your heart be troubled: ye believe in God, believe also in me.
2 In my Father's house are many mansions: if it were not so, I would have told you. I go to prepare a place for you.
3 And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come again, and receive you unto myself; that where I am, there ye may be also.
4 And whither I go ye know, and the way ye know.
5 Thomas saith unto him, Lord, we know not whither thou goest; and how can we know the way?
6 Jesus saith unto him, I am the way, the truth, and the life: no man cometh unto the Father, but by me.
7 If ye had known me, ye should have known my Father also: and from henceforth ye know him, and have seen him.
8 Philip saith unto him, Lord, show us the Father, and it sufficeth us.
9 Jesus saith unto him, Have I been so long time with you, and yet hast thou not known me, Philip? he that hath seen me hath seen the Father; and how sayest thou then, Show us the Father?
10 Believest thou not that I am in the Father, and the Father in me? the words that I speak unto you I speak not of myself: but the Father that dwelleth in me, he doeth the works.
11 Believe me that I am in the Father, and the Father in me: or else believe me for the very works' sake.
12 Verily, verily, I say unto you, He that believeth on me, the works that I do shall he do also; and greater works than these shall he do; because I go unto my Father.
13 And whatsoever ye shall ask in my name, that will I do, that the Father may be glorified in the Son.
14 If ye shall ask any thing in my name, I will do it.
15 If ye love me, keep my commandments.
16 And I will pray the Father, and he shall give you another Comforter, that he may abide with you for ever;
17 Even the Spirit of truth; whom the world cannot receive, because it seeth him not, neither knoweth him: but ye know him; for he dwelleth with you, and shall be in you.
18 I will not leave you comfortless: I will come to you.
19 Yet a little while, and the world seeth me no more; but ye see me: because I live, ye shall live also.
20 At that day ye shall know that I am in my Father, and ye in me, and I in you.
21 He that hath my commandments, and keepeth them, he it is that loveth me: and he that loveth me shall be loved of my Father, and I will love him, and will manifest myself to him.
22 Judas saith unto him, not Iscariot, Lord, how is it that thou wilt manifest thyself unto us, and not unto the world?
23 Jesus answered and said unto him, If a man love me, he will keep my words: and my Father will love him, and we will come unto him, and make our abode with him.
24 He that loveth me not keepeth not my sayings: and the word which ye hear is not mine, but the Father's which sent me.
25 These things have I spoken unto you, being yet present with you.
26 But the Comforter, which is the Holy Ghost, whom the Father will send in my name, he shall teach you all things, and bring all things to your remembrance, whatsoever I have said unto you.
27 Peace I leave with you, my peace I give unto you: not as the world giveth, give I unto you. Let not your heart be troubled, neither let it be afraid.
28 Ye have heard how I said unto you, I go away, and come again unto you. If ye loved me, ye would rejoice, because I said, I go unto the Father: for my Father is greater than I.
29 And now I have told you before it come to pass, that, when it is come to pass, ye might believe.
30 Hereafter I will not talk much with you: for the prince of this world cometh, and hath nothing in me.
31 But that the world may know that I love the Father; and as the Father gave me commandment, even so I do. Arise, let us go hence.
15 I am the true vine, and my Father is the husbandman.
2 Every branch in me that beareth not fruit he taketh away: and every branch that beareth fruit, he purgeth it, that it may bring forth more fruit.
3 Now ye are clean through the word which I have spoken unto you.
4 Abide in me, and I in you. As the branch cannot bear fruit of itself, except it abide in the vine; no more can ye, except ye abide in me.
5 I am the vine, ye are the branches: He that abideth in me, and I in him, the same bringeth forth much fruit: for without me ye can do nothing.
6 If a man abide not in me, he is cast forth as a branch, and is withered; and men gather them, and cast them into the fire, and they are burned.
7 If ye abide in me, and my words abide in you, ye shall ask what ye will, and it shall be done unto you.
8 Herein is my Father glorified, that ye bear much fruit; so shall ye be my disciples.
9 As the Father hath loved me, so have I loved you: continue ye in my love.
10 If ye keep my commandments, ye shall abide in my love; even as I have kept my Father's commandments, and abide in his love.
11 These things have I spoken unto you, that my joy might remain in you, and that your joy might be full.
12 This is my commandment, That ye love one another, as I have loved you.
13 Greater love hath no man than this, that a man lay down his life for his friends.
14 Ye are my friends, if ye do whatsoever I command you.
15 Henceforth I call you not servants; for the servant knoweth not what his lord doeth: but I have called you friends; for all things that I have heard of my Father I have made known unto you.
16 Ye have not chosen me, but I have chosen you, and ordained you, that ye should go and bring forth fruit, and that your fruit should remain: that whatsoever ye shall ask of the Father in my name, he may give it you.
17 These things I command you, that ye love one another.
18 If the world hate you, ye know that it hated me before it hated you.
19 If ye were of the world, the world would love his own: but because ye are not of the world, but I have chosen you out of the world, therefore the world hateth you.
20 Remember the word that I said unto you, The servant is not greater than his lord. If they have persecuted me, they will also persecute you; if they have kept my saying, they will keep yours also.
21 But all these things will they do unto you for my name's sake, because they know not him that sent me.
22 If I had not come and spoken unto them, they had not had sin: but now they have no cloak for their sin.
23 He that hateth me hateth my Father also.
24 If I had not done among them the works which none other man did, they had not had sin: but now have they both seen and hated both me and my Father.
25 But this cometh to pass, that the word might be fulfilled that is written in their law, They hated me without a cause.
26 But when the Comforter is come, whom I will send unto you from the Father, even the Spirit of truth, which proceedeth from the Father, he shall testify of me:
27 And ye also shall bear witness, because ye have been with me from the beginning.
16 These things have I spoken unto you, that ye should not be offended.
2 They shall put you out of the synagogues: yea, the time cometh, that whosoever killeth you will think that he doeth God service.
3 And these things will they do unto you, because they have not known the Father, nor me.
4 But these things have I told you, that when the time shall come, ye may remember that I told you of them. And these things I said not unto you at the beginning, because I was with you.
5 But now I go my way to him that sent me; and none of you asketh me, Whither goest thou?
6 But because I have said these things unto you, sorrow hath filled your heart.
7 Nevertheless I tell you the truth; It is expedient for you that I go away: for if I go not away, the Comforter will not come unto you; but if I depart, I will send him unto you.
8 And when he is come, he will reprove the world of sin, and of righteousness, and of judgment:
9 Of sin, because they believe not on me;
10 Of righteousness, because I go to my Father, and ye see me no more;
11 Of judgment, because the prince of this world is judged.
12 I have yet many things to say unto you, but ye cannot bear them now.
13 Howbeit when he, the Spirit of truth, is come, he will guide you into all truth: for he shall not speak of himself; but whatsoever he shall hear, that shall he speak: and he will shew you things to come.
14 He shall glorify me: for he shall receive of mine, and shall shew it unto you.
15 All things that the Father hath are mine: therefore said I, that he shall take of mine, and shall shew it unto you.
16 A little while, and ye shall not see me: and again, a little while, and ye shall see me, because I go to the Father.
17 Then said some of his disciples among themselves, What is this that he saith unto us, A little while, and ye shall not see me: and again, a little while, and ye shall see me: and, Because I go to the Father?
18 They said therefore, What is this that he saith, A little while? we cannot tell what he saith.
19 Now Jesus knew that they were desirous to ask him, and said unto them, Do ye enquire among yourselves of that I said, A little while, and ye shall not see me: and again, a little while, and ye shall see me?
20 Verily, verily, I say unto you, That ye shall weep and lament, but the world shall rejoice: and ye shall be sorrowful, but your sorrow shall be turned into joy.
21 A woman when she is in travail hath sorrow, because her hour is come: but as soon as she is delivered of the child, she remembereth no more the anguish, for joy that a man is born into the world.
22 And ye now therefore have sorrow: but I will see you again, and your heart shall rejoice, and your joy no man taketh from you.
23 And in that day ye shall ask me nothing. Verily, verily, I say unto you, Whatsoever ye shall ask the Father in my name, he will give it you.
24 Hitherto have ye asked nothing in my name: ask, and ye shall receive, that your joy may be full.
25 These things have I spoken unto you in proverbs: but the time cometh, when I shall no more speak unto you in proverbs, but I shall shew you plainly of the Father.
26 At that day ye shall ask in my name: and I say not unto you, that I will pray the Father for you:
27 For the Father himself loveth you, because ye have loved me, and have believed that I came out from God.
28 I came forth from the Father, and am come into the world: again, I leave the world, and go to the Father.
29 His disciples said unto him, Lo, now speakest thou plainly, and speakest no proverb.
30 Now are we sure that thou knowest all things, and needest not that any man should ask thee: by this we believe that thou camest forth from God.
31 Jesus answered them, Do ye now believe?
32 Behold, the hour cometh, yea, is now come, that ye shall be scattered, every man to his own, and shall leave me alone: and yet I am not alone, because the Father is with me.
33 These things I have spoken unto you, that in me ye might have peace. In the world ye shall have tribulation: but be of good cheer; I have overcome the world.
17 These words spake Jesus, and lifted up his eyes to heaven, and said, Father, the hour is come; glorify thy Son, that thy Son also may glorify thee:
2 As thou hast given him power over all flesh, that he should give eternal life to as many as thou hast given him.
3 And this is life eternal, that they might know thee the only true God, and Jesus Christ, whom thou hast sent.
4 I have glorified thee on the earth: I have finished the work which thou gavest me to do.
5 And now, O Father, glorify thou me with thine own self with the glory which I had with thee before the world was.
6 I have manifested thy name unto the men which thou gavest me out of the world: thine they were, and thou gavest them me; and they have kept thy word.
7 Now they have known that all things whatsoever thou hast given me are of thee.
8 For I have given unto them the words which thou gavest me; and they have received them, and have known surely that I came out from thee, and they have believed that thou didst send me.
9 I pray for them: I pray not for the world, but for them which thou hast given me; for they are thine.
10 And all mine are thine, and thine are mine; and I am glorified in them.
11 And now I am no more in the world, but these are in the world, and I come to thee. Holy Father, keep through thine own name those whom thou hast given me, that they may be one, as we are.
12 While I was with them in the world, I kept them in thy name: those that thou gavest me I have kept, and none of them is lost, but the son of perdition; that the scripture might be fulfilled.
13 And now come I to thee; and these things I speak in the world, that they might have my joy fulfilled in themselves.
14 I have given them thy word; and the world hath hated them, because they are not of the world, even as I am not of the world.
15 I pray not that thou shouldest take them out of the world, but that thou shouldest keep them from the evil.
16 They are not of the world, even as I am not of the world.
17 Sanctify them through thy truth: thy word is truth.
18 As thou hast sent me into the world, even so have I also sent them into the world.
19 And for their sakes I sanctify myself, that they also might be sanctified through the truth.
20 Neither pray I for these alone, but for them also which shall believe on me through their word;
21 That they all may be one; as thou, Father, art in me, and I in thee, that they also may be one in us: that the world may believe that thou hast sent me.
22 And the glory which thou gavest me I have given them; that they may be one, even as we are one:
23 I in them, and thou in me, that they may be made perfect in one; and that the world may know that thou hast sent me, and hast loved them, as thou hast loved me.
24 Father, I will that they also, whom thou hast given me, be with me where I am; that they may behold my glory, which thou hast given me: for thou lovedst me before the foundation of the world.
25 O righteous Father, the world hath not known thee: but I have known thee, and these have known that thou hast sent me.

2 And supper being come, the devil already having put [it] into the heart of Judas of Simon, Iscariot, that he may deliver him up,
3 Jesus knowing that all things the Father hath given to him -- into [his] hands, and that from God he came forth, and unto God he goeth,
4 doth rise from the supper, and doth lay down his garments, and having taken a towel, he girded himself;
5 afterward he putteth water into the basin, and began to wash the feet of his disciples, and to wipe with the towel with which he was being girded.
6 He cometh, therefore, unto Simon Peter, and that one saith to him, `Sir, thou -- dost thou wash my feet?'
7 Jesus answered and said to him, `That which I do thou hast not known now, but thou shalt know after these things;'
8 Peter saith to him, `Thou mayest not wash my feet -- to the age.' Jesus answered him, `If I may not wash thee, thou hast no part with me;'
9 Simon Peter saith to him, `Sir, not my feet only, but also the hands and the head.'
10 Jesus saith to him, `He who hath been bathed hath no need save to wash his feet, but he is clean altogether; and ye are clean, but not all;'
11 for he knew him who is delivering him up; because of this he said, `Ye are not all clean.'
12 When, therefore, he washed their feet, and took his garments, having reclined (at meat) again, he said to them, `Do ye know what I have done to you?
13 ye call me, The Teacher and The Lord, and ye say well, for I am;
14 if then I did wash your feet -- the Lord and the Teacher -- ye also ought to wash one another's feet.
15 `For an example I gave to you, that, according as I did to you, ye also may do;
16 verily, verily, I say to you, a servant is not greater than his lord, nor an apostle greater than he who sent him;
17 if these things ye have known, happy are ye, if ye may do them;
18 not concerning you all do I speak; I have known whom I chose for myself; but that the Writing may be fulfilled: He who is eating the bread with me, did lift up against me his heel.
19 `From this time I tell you, before its coming to pass, that, when it may come to pass, ye may believe that I am [he];
20 verily, verily, I say to you, he who is receiving whomsoever I may send, doth receive me; and he who is receiving me, doth receive Him who sent me.'
21 These things having said, Jesus was troubled in the spirit, and did testify, and said, `Verily, verily, I say to you, that one of you will deliver me up;'
22 the disciples were looking, therefore, one at another, doubting concerning whom he speaketh.
23 And there was one of his disciples reclining (at meat) in the bosom of Jesus, whom Jesus was loving;
24 Simon Peter, then, doth beckon to this one, to inquire who he may be concerning whom he speaketh,
25 and that one having leant back on the breast of Jesus, respondeth to him, `Sir, who is it?'
26 Jesus answereth, `That one it is to whom I, having dipped the morsel, shall give it;' and having dipped the morsel, he giveth [it] to Judas of Simon, Iscariot.

30 having received, therefore, the morsel, that one immediately went forth, and it was night.
31 When, therefore, he went forth, Jesus saith, `Now was the Son of Man glorified, and God was glorified in him;
32 if God was glorified in him, God also will glorify him in Himself; yea, immediately He will glorify him.
33 `Little children, yet a little am I with you; ye will seek me, and, according as I said to the Jews -- Whither I go away, ye are not able to come, to you also I do say [it] now.
34 `A new commandment I give to you, that ye love one another; according as I did love you, that ye also love one another;

2 in the house of my Father are many mansions; and if not, I would have told you; I go on to prepare a place for you;
3 and if I go on and prepare for you a place, again do I come, and will receive you unto myself, that where I am ye also may be;
4 and whither I go away ye have known, and the way ye have known.'
5 Thomas saith to him, `Sir, we have not known whither thou goest away, and how are we able to know the way?'
6 Jesus saith to him, `I am the way, and the truth, and the life, no one doth come unto the Father, if not through me;
7 if ye had known me, my Father also ye would have known, and from this time ye have known Him, and have seen Him.'
8 Philip saith to him, `Sir, shew to us the Father, and it is enough for us;'

20 verily, verily, I say to you, that ye shall weep and lament, and the world will rejoice; and ye shall be sorrowful, but your sorrow joy will become.
21 `The woman, when she may bear, hath sorrow, because her hour did come, and when she may bear the child, no more doth she remember the anguish, because of the joy that a man was born to the world.
22 `And ye, therefore, now, indeed, have sorrow; and again I will see you, and your heart shall rejoice, and your joy no one doth take from you,
23 and in that day ye will question me nothing; verily, verily, I say to you, as many things as ye may ask of the Father in my name, He will give you;
24 till now ye did ask nothing in my name; ask, and ye shall receive, that your joy may be full.
25 `These things in similitudes I have spoken to you, but there cometh an hour when no more in similitudes will I speak to you, but freely of the Father, will tell you.
26 `In that day, in my name ye will make request, and I do not say to you that I will ask the Father for you,
27 for the Father himself doth love you, because me ye have loved, and ye have believed that I from God came forth;
28 I came forth from the Father, and have come to the world; again I leave the world, and go on unto the Father.'
29 His disciples say to him, `Lo, now freely thou dost speak, and no similitude speakest thou;
30 now we have known that thou hast known all things, and hast no need that any one do question thee; in this we believe that from God thou didst come forth.'

11 and no more am I in the world, and these are in the world, and I come unto Thee. Holy Father, keep them in Thy name, whom Thou hast given to me, that they may be one as we;
12 when I was with them in the world, I was keeping them in Thy name; those whom Thou hast given to me I did guard, and none of them was destroyed, except the son of the destruction, that the Writing may be fulfilled.
13 `And now unto Thee I come, and these things I speak in the world, that they may have my joy fulfilled in themselves;
14 I have given to them Thy word, and the world did hate them, because they are not of the world, as I am not of the world;
15 I do not ask that Thou mayest take them out of the world, but that Thou mayest keep them out of the evil.
16 `Of the world they are not, as I of the world am not;
17 sanctify them in Thy truth, Thy word is truth;
18 as Thou didst send me to the world, I also did send them to the world;
19 and for them do I sanctify myself, that they also themselves may be sanctified in truth.
20 `And not in regard to these alone do I ask, but also in regard to those who shall be believing, through their word, in me;
21 that they all may be one, as Thou Father [art] in me, and I in Thee; that they also in us may be one, that the world may believe that Thou didst send me.
22 `And I, the glory that thou hast given to me, have given to them, that they may be one as we are one;
23 I in them, and Thou in me, that they may be perfected into one, and that the world may know that Thou didst send me, and didst love them as Thou didst love me.
24 `Father, those whom Thou hast given to me, I will that where I am they also may be with me, that they may behold my glory that Thou didst give to me, because Thou didst love me before the foundation of the world.
25 `Righteous Father, also the world did not know Thee, and I knew Thee, and these have known that Thou didst send me,
26 and I made known to them Thy name, and will make known, that the love with which Thou lovedst me in them may be, and I in them.'
