⁷ It has laid waste my vine
    and splintered my ^(A)fig tree;
it has stripped off their bark and thrown it down;
    their branches are made white.

⁶ I will make it a waste;
    it shall not be pruned or hoed,
    and ^(A)briers and thorns shall grow up;
^(B)I will also command the clouds
    that they rain no rain upon it.

¹² The vine dries up;
    ^(A)the fig tree languishes.
Pomegranate, palm, and apple,
    all the trees of the field are dried up,
and ^(B)gladness dries up
    from the children of man.

¹⁷ Though the fig tree should not blossom,
    nor fruit be on the vines,
the produce of the olive fail
    and the fields yield no food,
the flock be cut off from the fold
    and there be no herd in the stalls,

¹² And ^(A)I will lay waste her vines and her fig trees,
    ^(B)of which she said,
‘These are ^(C)my wages,
    which my lovers have given me.’
I will make them a forest,
    ^(D)and the beasts of the field shall devour them.

¹³ When I would gather them, declares the Lord,
    there are ^(A)no grapes on the vine,
    ^(B)nor figs on the fig tree;
^(C)even the leaves are withered,
    and what I gave them has passed away from them.”^[a]

^7 (A)The wine mourns,
    the vine languishes,
    all the merry-hearted sigh.

³³ He struck down their vines and fig trees,
    and ^(A)shattered the trees of their country.
