¹² The vine dries up;
    ^(A)the fig tree languishes.
Pomegranate, palm, and apple,
    all the trees of the field are dried up,
and ^(B)gladness dries up
    from the children of man.

^11 (A)There is an outcry in the streets for lack of wine;
    ^(B)all joy has grown dark;
    the gladness of the earth is banished.

^10 (A)And joy and gladness are taken away from ^(B)the fruitful field,
and in the vineyards no ^(C)songs are sung,
    no cheers are raised;
no ^(D)treader treads out wine ^(E)in the presses;
    I have put an end to the shouting.

¹⁷ Though the fig tree should not blossom,
    nor fruit be on the vines,
the produce of the olive fail
    and the fields yield no food,
the flock be cut off from the fold
    and there be no herd in the stalls,
^18 (A)yet I will rejoice in the Lord;
    ^(B)I will take joy in the God of my salvation.

¹⁶ Is not the food cut off
    before our eyes,
^(A)joy and gladness
    from the house of our God?
