¹⁷ And as for these four youths, ^(A)God gave them knowledge and insight in every branch of ^[a]literature and wisdom; Daniel even understood all kinds of ^(B)visions and dreams.

Nebuchadnezzar’s Troubling Dream

2 Now in the second year of the reign of Nebuchadnezzar, Nebuchadnezzar ^[a](A)had dreams; and his spirit was troubled, and his ^(B)sleep ^[b]left him.

²⁶ The king answered and said to Daniel, whose name was ^(A)Belteshazzar, “Are you able to make known to me the dream which I have seen and its interpretation?” ²⁷ Daniel answered before the king and said, “As for the mystery about which the king is asking, neither ^(B)wise men, conjurers, ^[a]magicians, nor diviners are able to declare it to the king. ²⁸ However, there is a ^(C)God in heaven who reveals mysteries, and He has made known to King Nebuchadnezzar what will take place in the ^[b](D)last days. This was your dream and the ^(E)visions of your head while on your bed.

⁵ I saw a ^(A)dream, and it made me fearful; and these fantasies as I lay on my bed and the ^(B)visions in my head kept alarming me. ⁶ So I gave a decree to ^(C)bring into my presence all the wise men of Babylon, that they might make known to me the interpretation of the dream. ⁷ Then the ^[a](D)magicians, the conjurers, the ^[b]Chaldeans, and the diviners came in, and I said the dream ^[c]to them, but they could not make its ^(E)interpretation known to me. ⁸ But at last Daniel came in before me, whose name is ^(F)Belteshazzar according to the name of my god, and in whom is ^[d](G)a spirit of the holy gods; and I said the dream ^[e]to him: ⁹ ‘O Belteshazzar, ^(H)chief of the magicians, since I know that ^(I)a spirit of the holy gods is in you, and ^(J)no mystery is difficult for you, ^(K)say to me the visions of my dream which I have seen, along with its interpretation.
