⁴ Then the officials said to the king, ^(A)“Let this man be put to death, ^(B)for he is weakening the hands of the soldiers who are left in this city, and the hands of all the people, by speaking such words to them. For this man is not seeking ^(C)the welfare of this people, but their harm.”

¹¹ Then ^(A)the priests and the prophets said to the officials and to all the people, ^(B)“This man deserves the sentence of death, because he has prophesied against this city, as you have heard with your own ears.”

²⁰ And when they had brought them to the magistrates, they said, “These men are Jews, and they are disturbing our city.

Amos Accused

¹⁰ Then Amaziah ^(A)the priest of Bethel sent to ^(B)Jeroboam king of Israel, saying, “Amos has ^(C)conspired against you in the midst of the house of Israel. The land is not able to bear all his words.

⁷ But seek the welfare of the city where I have sent you into exile, and ^(A)pray to the Lord on its behalf, for in its welfare you will find your welfare.

⁹ For they all wanted to frighten us, thinking, “Their hands will drop from the work, and it will not be done.” But now, O God,^[a] strengthen my hands.

²⁰ Ahab said to Elijah, ^(A)“Have you found me, O my enemy?” He answered, “I have found you, because ^(B)you have sold yourself to do what is evil in the sight of the Lord.

¹⁷ When Ahab saw Elijah, Ahab said to him, ^(A)“Is it you, you ^(B)troubler of Israel?” ¹⁸ And he answered, “I have not troubled Israel, but you have, and your father's house, because you have ^(C)abandoned the commandments of the Lord and ^(D)followed the Baals.

⁴ But the king of Egypt said to them, “Moses and Aaron, why do you take the people away from their work? Get back to your ^(A)burdens.”

²² But we desire to hear from you what your views are, for with regard to this ^(A)sect we know that everywhere ^(B)it is spoken against.”
