1 The vision(A) concerning Judah and Jerusalem(B) that Isaiah son of Amoz saw(C) during the reigns of Uzziah,(D) Jotham,(E) Ahaz(F) and Hezekiah,(G) kings of Judah.
A Rebellious Nation
2 Hear me, you heavens! Listen, earth!(H)
For the Lord has spoken:(I)
“I reared children(J) and brought them up,
but they have rebelled(K) against me.
3 The ox knows(L) its master,
the donkey its owner’s manger,(M)
but Israel does not know,(N)
my people do not understand.(O)”
4 Woe to the sinful nation,
a people whose guilt is great,(P)
a brood of evildoers,(Q)
children given to corruption!(R)
They have forsaken(S) the Lord;
they have spurned the Holy One(T) of Israel
and turned their backs(U) on him.
5 Why should you be beaten(V) anymore?
Why do you persist(W) in rebellion?(X)
Your whole head is injured,
your whole heart(Y) afflicted.(Z)
6 From the sole of your foot to the top of your head(AA)
there is no soundness(AB)—
only wounds and welts(AC)
and open sores,
not cleansed or bandaged(AD)
or soothed with olive oil.(AE)
7 Your country is desolate,(AF)
your cities burned with fire;(AG)
your fields are being stripped by foreigners(AH)
right before you,
laid waste as when overthrown by strangers.(AI)
8 Daughter Zion(AJ) is left(AK)
like a shelter in a vineyard,
like a hut(AL) in a cucumber field,
like a city under siege.
9 Unless the Lord Almighty
had left us some survivors,(AM)
we would have become like Sodom,
we would have been like Gomorrah.(AN)
10 Hear the word of the Lord,(AO)
you rulers of Sodom;(AP)
listen to the instruction(AQ) of our God,
you people of Gomorrah!(AR)
11 “The multitude of your sacrifices—
what are they to me?” says the Lord.
“I have more than enough of burnt offerings,
of rams and the fat of fattened animals;(AS)
I have no pleasure(AT)
in the blood of bulls(AU) and lambs and goats.(AV)
12 When you come to appear before me,
who has asked this of you,(AW)
this trampling of my courts?
13 Stop bringing meaningless offerings!(AX)
Your incense(AY) is detestable(AZ) to me.
New Moons,(BA) Sabbaths and convocations(BB)—
I cannot bear your worthless assemblies.
14 Your New Moon(BC) feasts and your appointed festivals(BD)
I hate with all my being.(BE)
They have become a burden to me;(BF)
I am weary(BG) of bearing them.
15 When you spread out your hands(BH) in prayer,
I hide(BI) my eyes from you;
even when you offer many prayers,
I am not listening.(BJ)
16 Wash(BM) and make yourselves clean.
Take your evil deeds out of my sight;(BN)
stop doing wrong.(BO)
17 Learn to do right;(BP) seek justice.(BQ)
Defend the oppressed.[a](BR)
Take up the cause of the fatherless;(BS)
plead the case of the widow.(BT)
18 “Come now, let us settle the matter,”(BU)
says the Lord.
“Though your sins are like scarlet,
they shall be as white as snow;(BV)
though they are red as crimson,
they shall be like wool.(BW)
19 If you are willing and obedient,(BX)
you will eat the good things of the land;(BY)
20 but if you resist and rebel,(BZ)
you will be devoured by the sword.”(CA)
For the mouth of the Lord has spoken.(CB)
21 See how the faithful city
has become a prostitute!(CC)
She once was full of justice;
righteousness(CD) used to dwell in her—
but now murderers!(CE)
22 Your silver has become dross,(CF)
your choice wine is diluted with water.
23 Your rulers are rebels,(CG)
partners with thieves;(CH)
they all love bribes(CI)
and chase after gifts.
They do not defend the cause of the fatherless;
the widow’s case does not come before them.(CJ)
24 Therefore the Lord, the Lord Almighty,
the Mighty One(CK) of Israel, declares:
“Ah! I will vent my wrath on my foes
and avenge(CL) myself on my enemies.(CM)
25 I will turn my hand against you;[b](CN)
I will thoroughly purge(CO) away your dross(CP)
and remove all your impurities.(CQ)
26 I will restore your leaders as in days of old,(CR)
your rulers as at the beginning.
Afterward you will be called(CS)
the City of Righteousness,(CT)
the Faithful City.(CU)”
27 Zion will be delivered with justice,
her penitent(CV) ones with righteousness.(CW)
28 But rebels and sinners(CX) will both be broken,
and those who forsake(CY) the Lord will perish.(CZ)
29 “You will be ashamed(DA) because of the sacred oaks(DB)
in which you have delighted;
you will be disgraced because of the gardens(DC)
that you have chosen.
30 You will be like an oak with fading leaves,(DD)
like a garden without water.
31 The mighty man will become tinder
and his work a spark;
both will burn together,
with no one to quench the fire.(DE)”

1 A vision of Isaiah, the son of Amoz, which he saw concerning Judah and Jerusalem, in the days of Uzziah, Jotham, Ahaz, and Hezekiah, kings of Judah.
2 Hear, O heavens, and listen, O Earth! For the LORD has said, “I have nourished and brought up children, but they have rebelled against Me.
3 “The ox knows his owner, and the donkey his master’s crib. Israel has not known. My people have not understood.”
4 Ah, sinful nation! A people laden with iniquity! A seed of the wicked! Corrupt children! They have forsaken the LORD. They have provoked the Holy One of Israel to anger. They have gone backward.
5 Why should you be stricken anymore? For you fall away more and more. The whole head is sick and the whole heart is heavy.
6 From the sole of the foot to the head, there is nothing whole therein. Wounds and swelling and sores full of corruption, they have not been wrapped or bound up or softened with oil.
7 Your land is desolate, your cities burnt with fire. Strangers devour your land in your presence and devastate it, as is the overthrow of strangers.
8 And the Daughter of Zion shall remain like a cottage in a vineyard, like a lodge in a garden of cucumbers, like a besieged city.
9 Except the LORD of Hosts had reserved to us even a small remnant, we would have been as Sodom, would have been like Gomorrah.
10 Hear the Word of the LORD, O princes of Sodom! Listen to the Law of our God, O people of Gomorrah!
11 “What have I to do with the multitude of your sacrifices?” says the LORD. “I am full of the Burnt Offerings of rams, and of the fat of fed beasts. And I do not desire the blood of bullocks, or of lambs, or of goats.
12 “When you come to appear before Me, who required this of your hands, to trample upon My courts?
13 “Bring no more oblations in vain. Incense is an abomination to Me. I cannot abide iniquitous new moons, or Sabbath, solemn days or solemn assemblies.
14 “My soul hates your new moons and your appointed feasts. They are a burden to Me. I am weary of bearing them.
15 “And when you shall stretch out your hands, I will hide My Eyes from you. And though you make many prayers, I will not hear. Your hands are full of blood.
16 “Wash yourself and make yourself clean. Take away the evil of your works from before My Eyes. Cease to do evil.
17 “Learn to do well. Seek judgment. Relieve the oppressed. Govern the fatherless. Defend the widow.
18 “Come now, and let us reason together,” says the LORD. “Though your sins were as crimson, they shall be made white as snow. Though they were red like scarlet, they shall be as wool.
19 “If you consent and obey, you shall eat the goods of the land.
20 “But if you refuse and are rebellious, you shall be devoured with the sword.” For the Mouth of the LORD has spoken it.
21 How has the faithful city become a harlot? It was full of judgment. Justice lodged therein—but now, murderers.
22 Your silver has become dross. Your wine is mixed with water.
23 Your princes are rebellious and companions of thieves. Everyone loves gifts and follows after rewards. They do not govern the fatherless. Nor does the widow’s cause come before them.
24 “Therefore,” says the LORD God of Hosts, the Mighty One of Israel, “Ah, I will relieve Myself of My adversaries and avenge Myself of My enemies.
25 “Then I will turn My Hand upon you and burn out your dross until it is pure and take away all your tin.
26 “And I will restore your Judges, as at the first, and your counselors, as at the beginning. Afterward, you shall be called a City of Righteousness, a faithful city.”
27 Zion shall be redeemed in judgment, and those who return in her, in justice.
28 And the destruction of the transgressors and of the sinners shall be together. And those who forsake the LORD shall be consumed.
29 For they shall be ashamed of the oaks, which you have desired. And you shall be confounded for the gardens that you have chosen.
30 For you shall be as an oak whose leaf fades, and as a garden that has no water.
31 And the strong shall be as tinder, and their work as a spark. And they shall both burn together. And no one shall quench them.

2 Hear, O heavens, and give ear, O earth: for the Lord hath spoken, I have nourished and brought up children, and they have rebelled against me.
3 The ox knoweth his owner, and the ass his master's crib: but Israel doth not know, my people doth not consider.
4 Ah sinful nation, a people laden with iniquity, a seed of evildoers, children that are corrupters: they have forsaken the Lord, they have provoked the Holy One of Israel unto anger, they are gone away backward.
5 Why should ye be stricken any more? ye will revolt more and more: the whole head is sick, and the whole heart faint.
6 From the sole of the foot even unto the head there is no soundness in it; but wounds, and bruises, and putrifying sores: they have not been closed, neither bound up, neither mollified with ointment.
7 Your country is desolate, your cities are burned with fire: your land, strangers devour it in your presence, and it is desolate, as overthrown by strangers.
8 And the daughter of Zion is left as a cottage in a vineyard, as a lodge in a garden of cucumbers, as a besieged city.

15 And when ye spread forth your hands, I will hide mine eyes from you: yea, when ye make many prayers, I will not hear: your hands are full of blood.
16 Wash you, make you clean; put away the evil of your doings from before mine eyes; cease to do evil;

1 Dies ist die Geschichte Jesaja's, des Sohnes des Amoz, welches er sah von Juda und Jerusalem zur Zeit Usias, Jothams, des Ahas und Hiskia, der Könige Juda's.
2 Höret, ihr Himmel! und Erde, nimm zu Ohren! denn der HERR redet: Ich habe Kinder auferzogen und erhöht, und sie sind von mir abgefallen.
3 Ein Ochse kennt seinen Herrn und ein Esel die Krippe seines Herrn; aber Israel kennt's nicht, und mein Volk vernimmt's nicht.
4 O weh des sündigen Volks, des Volks von großer Missetat, des boshaften Samens, der verderbten Kinder, die den HERRN verlassen, den Heiligen in Israel lästern, zurückweichen!
5 Was soll man weiter euch schlagen, so ihr des Abweichens nur desto mehr macht? Das ganze Haupt ist krank, das ganze Herz ist matt.
6 Von der Fußsohle bis aufs Haupt ist nichts Gesundes an ihm, sondern Wunden und Striemen und Eiterbeulen, die nicht geheftet noch verbunden noch mit Öl gelindert sind.
7 Euer Land ist wüst, eure Städte sind mit Feuer verbrannt; Fremde verzehren eure Äcker vor euren Augen, und es ist wüst wie das, so durch Fremde verheert ist.
8 Was noch übrig ist von der Tochter Zion, ist wie ein Häuslein im Weinberge, wie die Nachthütte in den Kürbisgärten, wie eine verheerte Stadt.
9 Wenn uns der HERR Zebaoth nicht ein weniges ließe übrigbleiben, so wären wir wie Sodom und gleich wie Gomorra.
10 Höret des HERRN Wort, ihr Fürsten von Sodom! Nimm zu Ohren unsers Gottes Gesetz, du Volk von Gomorra!
11 Was soll mir die Menge eurer Opfer? spricht der HERR. Ich bin satt der Brandopfer von Widdern und des Fetten von den Gemästeten und habe keine Lust zum Blut der Farren, der Lämmer und Böcke.
12 Wenn ihr hereinkommt, zu erscheinen vor mir, wer fordert solches von euren Händen, daß ihr auf meinen Vorhof tretet?
13 Bringt nicht mehr Speisopfer so vergeblich! das Räuchwerk ist mir ein Greuel! Neumonde und Sabbate, da ihr zusammenkommt, Frevel und Festfeier mag ich nicht!
14 Meine Seele ist feind euren Neumonden und Jahrfesten; ich bin ihrer überdrüssig, ich bin's müde zu leiden.
15 Und wenn ihr schon eure Hände ausbreitet, verberge ich doch meine Augen vor euch; und ob ihr schon viel betet, höre ich euch doch nicht; denn eure Hände sind voll Blut.
16 Waschet, reiniget euch, tut euer böses Wesen von meinen Augen, laßt ab vom Bösen;
17 lernet Gutes tun, trachtet nach Recht, helfet dem Unterdrückten, schaffet dem Waisen Recht, führet der Witwe Sache.
18 So kommt denn und laßt uns miteinander rechten, spricht der HERR. Wenn eure Sünde gleich blutrot ist, soll sie doch schneeweiß werden; und wenn sie gleich ist wie Scharlach, soll sie doch wie Wolle werden.
19 Wollt ihr mir gehorchen, so sollt ihr des Landes Gut genießen.
20 Weigert ihr euch aber und seid ungehorsam, so sollt ihr vom Schwert gefressen werden; denn der Mund des HERRN sagt es.
21 Wie geht das zu, daß die fromme Stadt zur Hure geworden ist? Sie war voll Rechts, Gerechtigkeit wohnte darin, nun aber Mörder.
22 Dein Silber ist Schaum geworden und dein Getränk mit Wasser vermischt.
23 Deine Fürsten sind Abtrünnige und Diebsgesellen; sie nehmen alle gern Geschenke und trachten nach Gaben; dem Waisen schaffen sie nicht Recht, und der Witwe Sache kommt nicht vor sie.
24 Darum spricht der HERR HERR Zebaoth, der Mächtige in Israel: O weh! Ich werde mich trösten an meinen Feinden und mich rächen an meinen Widersachern;
25 und muß meine Hand gegen dich kehren und deinen Schaum aufs lauterste ausfegen und all dein Blei ausscheiden
26 und dir wieder Richter geben, wie zuvor waren, und Ratsherren wie im Anfang. Alsdann wirst du eine Stadt der Gerechtigkeit und eine fromme Stadt heißen.
27 Zion muß durch Recht erlöst werden und ihre Gefangenen durch Gerechtigkeit,
28 daß die Übertreter und Sünder miteinander zerbrochen werden, und die den HERRN verlassen, umkommen.
29 Denn sie müssen zu Schanden werden über den Eichen, daran ihr Lust habt, und schamrot werden über den Gärten, die ihr erwählt,
30 wenn ihr sein werdet wie eine Eiche mit dürren Blättern und wie ein Garten ohne Wasser,
31 wenn der Gewaltige wird sein wie Werg und sein Tun wie ein Funke und beides miteinander angezündet wird, daß niemand lösche.
