¹⁷ Because of his sinful greed I was angry,^(A)
so I struck him; I was angry and hid;
but he went on turning back to the desires of his heart.

¹⁸ I have seen his ways, but I will heal him;
I will lead him and restore comfort
to him and his mourners,^(A)

¹³ And I will punish her for the days of the Baals,^(A)
to which she burned incense.^(B)
She put on her rings and her jewellery^(C)
and followed her lovers,
but she forgot me.^(D)
This is the Lord’s declaration.

¹⁴ Therefore, I am going to persuade her,
lead her to the wilderness,^(A)
and speak tenderly to her.^[a]
