¹³ Then Ephraim saw his sickness,
And Judah his sore,
So Ephraim went to ^(A)Assyria
And sent to ^[a](B)King Jareb.
But he is ^(C)unable to heal you
Or to cure you of your sore.

⁹ For they have gone up to ^(A)Assyria
Like ^(B)a wild donkey all alone;
Ephraim has ^(C)hired ^[a]lovers.

12 ^[a]Ephraim feeds on ^(A)wind
And pursues the ^(B)east wind continually;
He abounds in falsehood and destruction.
Moreover, ^[b]he cuts a covenant with Assyria,
And oil is carried to Egypt.
