⁹ Though we speak in this way, yet in your case, beloved, we feel sure of better things—things that belong to salvation.

³⁹ But we are not of those who shrink back and are destroyed, but of those who have faith and preserve their souls.

⁴ For it is impossible, in the case of those ^(A)who have once been enlightened, who have tasted ^(B)the heavenly gift, and ^(C)have shared in the Holy Spirit, ⁵ and ^(D)have tasted the goodness of the word of God and the powers of the age to come, ⁶ and ^(E)then have fallen away, to restore them again to repentance, since ^(F)they are crucifying once again the Son of God to their own harm and holding him up to contempt.

^3 (A)how shall we escape if we ^(B)neglect such a great salvation? It was ^(C)declared at first by the Lord, and it was ^(D)attested to us ^(E)by those who heard,

¹⁰ For ^(A)godly grief produces a repentance that leads to salvation without regret, whereas ^(B)worldly grief produces death.

³⁴ For ^(A)you had compassion on those in prison, and ^(B)you joyfully accepted the plundering of your property, since you knew that you yourselves had ^(C)a better possession and an abiding one.

⁹ And ^(A)being made perfect, he became the source of eternal salvation to all who obey him,

¹¹ For ^(A)the grace of God ^(B)has appeared, bringing salvation ^(C)for all people, ¹² training us to renounce ungodliness and ^(D)worldly passions, and ^(E)to live self-controlled, upright, and godly lives in ^(F)the present age, ^13 (G)waiting for our blessed ^(H)hope, the ^(I)appearing of the glory of our great ^(J)God and Savior Jesus Christ, ^14 (K)who gave himself for us to ^(L)redeem us from all lawlessness and ^(M)to purify for himself ^(N)a people for his own possession who are ^(O)zealous for good works.

³ remembering before ^(A)our God and Father ^(B)your work of faith and labor of ^(C)love and ^(D)steadfastness of hope in our Lord Jesus Christ. ⁴ For we know, ^(E)brothers^[a] loved by God, ^(F)that he has chosen you,
