² Then ^(A)Zerubbabel the son of Shealtiel and Jeshua the son of Jozadak arose and began to rebuild the house of God which is in Jerusalem; and ^(B)the prophets of God were with them supporting them.

The Commission to Rebuild the Temple

1 In the ^(A)second year of Darius the king, on the first day of the sixth month, the word of ^[a]Yahweh came by the hand of ^(B)Haggai the prophet to ^(C)Zerubbabel the son of Shealtiel, ^(D)governor of Judah, and to ^(E)Joshua the son of Jehozadak, the high priest, saying,

¹² Then ^(A)Zerubbabel the son of Shealtiel, and ^(B)Joshua the son of Jehozadak, the high priest, with all the remnant of the people, ^(C)listened to the voice of Yahweh their God and the words of Haggai the prophet, as Yahweh their God had sent him. And the people ^(D)feared Yahweh.

⁴ But now, ^(A)be strong, Zerubbabel,’ declares Yahweh, ‘be strong also, Joshua son of Jehozadak, the high priest, and all you people of the land, be strong,’ declares Yahweh, ‘and work; for ^(B)I am with you,’ declares Yahweh of hosts.

The High Priest and a Branch

3 Then he showed me ^(A)Joshua the high priest standing before the angel of Yahweh, and ^[a](B)Satan standing at his right hand to accuse him.

¹¹ And take silver and gold, make an ornate ^(A)crown, and set it on the head of ^(B)Joshua the son of Jehozadak, the high priest.
