God’s Grace to Unfaithful Jerusalem

16 Then the word of the Lord came to me, saying, 2 “Son of man, (A)make known to Jerusalem her abominations, 3 and say, ‘This is what the Lord [a]God says to Jerusalem: “Your origin and your birth are from the land of the Canaanite; your father was an Amorite and your mother a Hittite. 4 As for your birth, (B)on the day you were born your navel cord was not cut, nor were you washed with water for cleansing; you were not rubbed with salt or even wrapped in cloths. 5 No eye looked with pity on you to do any of these things for you, to have compassion on you. Rather you were thrown out into the [b](C)open field, [c]for you were abhorred on the day you were born.

6 “When I passed by you and saw you squirming in your blood, I said to you while you were in your blood, ‘Live!’ Yes, I said to you while you were in your blood, ‘Live!’ 7 I (D)made you [d]very numerous, like plants of the field. Then you grew up, became tall and reached the age for fine jewelry; your breasts were formed and your hair had grown. Yet you were naked and bare.

8 “Then I passed by you and saw you, and behold, [e]you were at the time for love; so I (E)spread My [f]garment over you and covered your nakedness. I also (F)swore an oath to you and (G)entered into a covenant with you so that you (H)became Mine,” declares the Lord God. 9 “Then I bathed you with water, washed off your blood from you, and (I)anointed you with oil. 10 I also clothed you with (J)colorfully woven cloth and put sandals of [g]fine leather on your feet; and I wrapped you with fine linen and covered you with silk. 11 I adorned you with jewelry, put (K)bracelets on your wrists, and a (L)necklace around your neck. 12 I also put a (M)ring in your nose, earrings in your ears, and a (N)beautiful crown on your head. 13 So you were adorned with (O)gold and silver, and your dress was of fine linen, silk, and colorfully woven cloth. You ate fine flour, honey, and oil; so you were exceedingly beautiful and advanced to (P)royalty. 14 Then your (Q)fame spread among the nations on account of your beauty, for it was (R)perfect because of My splendor which I bestowed on you,” declares the Lord God.

15 “But you (S)trusted in your beauty and (T)became unfaithful because of your fame, and you poured out your [h]obscene practices on every passer-by to whom it might be tempting. 16 You took some of your clothes, made for yourself [i]high places of various colors, and committed prostitution on them, which should not come about nor happen. 17 You also took your beautiful [j](U)jewels made of My gold and of My silver, which I had given you, and made for yourself male images so that you might commit prostitution with them. 18 Then you took your colorfully woven cloth and covered them, and offered My oil and My incense before them. 19 Also (V)My bread which I gave you, fine flour, oil, and honey with which I fed you, [k]you would offer before them for a soothing aroma; so it happened,” declares the Lord God. 20 “Furthermore, you took your sons and daughters whom you had borne to (W)Me and (X)sacrificed them to [l]idols to be devoured. Were your obscene practices a trivial matter? 21 You slaughtered (Y)My children and offered them to [m]idols by (Z)making them pass through the fire. 22 And besides all your abominations and obscene practices, you did not remember the days of (AA)your youth, when you were naked and bare and squirming in your blood.

23 “Then it came about after all your wickedness (‘Woe, woe to you!’ declares the Lord God), 24 that you built yourself a (AB)shrine and made yourself a (AC)high place in every public square. 25 You built yourself a high place at the beginning of (AD)every street and made your beauty abominable, and you spread your legs to every passer-by and multiplied your obscene practice. 26 You also committed prostitution with the Egyptians, your [n]lustful neighbors, and multiplied your obscene practice to (AE)provoke Me to anger. 27 So behold, I have stretched out My hand against you and cut back your rations. And I turned you over to the desire of those who hate you, the (AF)daughters of the Philistines, who are ashamed of your outrageous conduct. 28 Moreover, you committed prostitution with the (AG)Assyrians because you were not satisfied; you committed prostitution with them and still were not satisfied. 29 You also multiplied your obscene practice with the land of merchants, Chaldea; yet even with this you were not satisfied.”’”

30 “How (AH)feverish is your heart,” declares the Lord God, “while you do all these things, the action of a [o](AI)bold prostitute! 31 When you built your shrine at the beginning of every street and made your high place in every public square, in (AJ)spurning a prostitute’s fee, you were not like a prostitute. 32 You adulteress wife, who takes strangers instead of her husband! 33 Men give gifts to all prostitutes, but you (AK)give your gifts to all your lovers and lavish favors on them so that they will come to you from every direction for your obscene practices. 34 So it is the opposite for you from those women in your obscene practices, in that you are not approached for prostitution, and in the fact that you pay a prostitute’s fee, and no fee is paid to you; so you are the opposite.”

35 Therefore, you prostitute, hear the word of the Lord. 36 This is what the Lord God says: “Because your lewdness was poured out and your nakedness uncovered through your obscene practices with your lovers and with all your detestable (AL)idols, and because of the blood of your sons that you gave to [p]idols, 37 therefore, behold, I am going to (AM)gather all your lovers whom you pleased, all those whom you loved as well as all those whom you (AN)hated. So I will gather them against you from every direction and (AO)expose your nakedness to them so that they may see all your nakedness. 38 So I will (AP)judge you as women who commit adultery or shed blood are judged; and I will bring on you the blood of (AQ)wrath and jealousy. 39 I will also hand you over to [q]your lovers, and they will tear down your shrines, demolish your high places, (AR)strip you of your clothing, take away your [r]jewels, and will leave you naked and bare. 40 They will [s]incite a (AS)crowd against you, and they will stone you and cut you to pieces with their swords. 41 And they will (AT)burn your houses with fire and execute judgments against you in the sight of many women. Then I will (AU)put an end to your prostitution, and you will also no longer pay [t]your lovers. 42 So I (AV)will satisfy My fury against you and My jealousy will leave you, and I will be pacified and (AW)no longer be angry. 43 Since you have (AX)not remembered the days of your youth but [u]have (AY)caused Me unrest by all these things, behold, I in turn will (AZ)bring your conduct down on your own head,” declares the Lord God, “so that you will not commit this outrageous sin in addition to all your other abominations.

44 “Behold, everyone who quotes (BA)proverbs will quote this proverb about you, saying, ‘Like [v]mother, like daughter.’ 45 You are the daughter of your mother, who loathed her husband and children. You are also the (BB)sister of your sisters, who (BC)loathed their husbands and children. Your mother was a Hittite and your father an Amorite. 46 Now your (BD)older sister is Samaria, who lives [w]north of you with her [x]daughters; and your younger sister, who lives [y]south of you, is (BE)Sodom with her [z]daughters. 47 Yet you have not merely walked in their ways and [aa]committed their abominations; but, as if that were (BF)too little, you also acted (BG)more corruptly in all your conduct than they. 48 As I live,” declares the Lord God, “Sodom, your sister and her daughters have (BH)not done as you and your daughters have done! 49 Behold, this was the guilt of your sister Sodom: she and her daughters had (BI)arrogance, (BJ)plenty of food, and (BK)carefree ease, but she did not [ab]help the (BL)poor and needy. 50 So they were haughty and committed (BM)abominations before Me. Therefore I (BN)removed them [ac]when I saw it. 51 Furthermore, Samaria did not commit half of your sins, for you have multiplied your abominations more than they. So you have made your sisters appear (BO)innocent by all your abominations which you have committed. 52 Also, bear your disgrace in that you have [ad]made judgment favorable for your sisters. Because of your sins in which you acted (BP)more abominably than they, they are more in the right than you. Yes, be also ashamed and bear your disgrace, in that you made your sisters appear innocent.

53 “Nevertheless, I will restore their fortunes, the fortunes of Sodom and her daughters, the fortunes of Samaria and her daughters, and [ae]along with them your own fortunes, 54 so that you will bear your disgrace and feel (BQ)ashamed for all that you have done when you become (BR)a consolation to them. 55 Your sisters, Sodom with her daughters and Samaria with her daughters, [af]will return to their former state, and you with your daughters will also return to your former state. 56 As the name of your sister Sodom was not heard from your lips in your day of pride, 57 before your (BS)wickedness was uncovered, [ag]so now you have become the (BT)disgrace of the daughters of [ah]Edom and of all who are around her, of the daughters of the Philistines—those surrounding you who despise you. 58 You have (BU)suffered the penalty of your outrageous sin and abominations,” the Lord declares. 59 For this is what the Lord God says: “I will also do with you as you have done, you who have (BV)despised the oath by breaking the covenant.

The Covenant Remembered

60 “Nevertheless, I will remember My covenant with you in the days of your youth, and I will establish an (BW)everlasting covenant with you. 61 Then you will (BX)remember your ways and be ashamed when you receive your sisters, both your older and your younger; and I will give them to you as daughters, but not because of your covenant. 62 So I will (BY)establish My covenant with you, and you shall (BZ)know that I am the Lord, 63 so that you may (CA)remember and be ashamed, and (CB)not open your mouth again because of your disgrace, when I have [ai](CC)forgiven you for all that you have done,” the Lord God declares.

16 (A)La parola del Signore mi fu ancora rivolta, in questi termini:

2 «*Figlio d'uomo, fa' conoscere a *Gerusalemme le sue abominazioni 3 e di':
“Cosí parla Dio, il Signore, a Gerusalemme: Per la tua origine e per la tua nascita sei del paese del *Cananeo; tuo padre era un *Amoreo, tua madre un'Ittita. 4 Quanto alla tua nascita, il giorno che nascesti l'ombelico non ti fu tagliato, non fosti lavata con acqua per pulirti, non fosti sfregata con sale, né fosti fasciata. 5 Nessuno ebbe sguardi di pietà per te, per farti una sola di queste cose, mosso a compassione di te; ma fosti gettata nell'aperta campagna, il giorno che nascesti, per il disprezzo che si aveva di te.

6 Io ti passai accanto, vidi che ti dibattevi nel sangue e ti dissi: «Vivi, tu che sei nel sangue!» Ti ripetei: «Vivi, tu che sei nel sangue!» 7 Io ti farò moltiplicare per miriadi, come il germoglio dei campi. Tu ti sviluppasti, crescesti, giungesti al colmo della bellezza, il tuo seno si formò, la tua capigliatura crebbe abbondante, ma tu eri nuda e scoperta. 8 Io ti passai accanto, ti guardai, ed ecco, il tuo tempo era giunto: il tempo degli amori; io stesi su di te il lembo della mia veste e coprii la tua nudità; ti feci un giuramento, entrai in un patto con te, dice Dio, il Signore, e tu fosti mia.

9 Ti lavai con acqua, ti ripulii del sangue che avevi addosso e ti unsi con olio. 10 Ti misi delle vesti ricamate, dei calzari di pelle di delfino, ti cinsi il capo di lino fino, ti ricoprii di seta. 11 Ti fornii d'ornamenti, ti misi dei braccialetti ai polsi e una collana al collo. 12 Ti misi un anello al naso, dei pendenti agli orecchi e una magnifica corona in capo. 13 Cosí fosti adorna d'oro e d'argento; fosti vestita di lino fino, di seta e di ricami; tu mangiasti fior di farina, miele e olio; diventasti bellissima e giungesti fino a regnare. 14 La tua fama si sparse fra le nazioni, per la tua bellezza; essa infatti era perfetta, perché io ti avevo rivestita della mia magnificenza, dice Dio, il Signore.

15 Ma tu, inebriata della tua bellezza, ti prostituisti sfruttando la tua fama e offrendoti a ogni passante, a chi voleva. 16 Tu prendesti delle tue vesti, ti facesti degli alti luoghi ornati di vari colori, e là ti prostituisti: cose tali non ne avvennero mai, e non ne avverranno piú. 17 Prendesti pure i tuoi bei gioielli fatti del mio oro e del mio argento, che io ti avevo dati, te ne facesti delle immagini d'uomo, e ad esse ti prostituisti; 18 prendesti le tue vesti ricamate e ne ricopristi quelle immagini, davanti alle quali tu mettesti il mio olio e il mio profumo. 19 Cosí anche il mio pane che ti avevo dato, il fior di farina, l'olio e il miele con cui ti nutrivo, tu li mettesti davanti a loro, come un profumo di soave odore. Questo si fece! dice Dio, il Signore.

20 Prendesti inoltre i tuoi figli e le tue figlie, che mi avevi partoriti, e li offristi loro in sacrificio, perché li divorassero. Non bastavano dunque le tue prostituzioni, 21 perché tu avessi anche a scannare i miei figli, e a darli loro facendoli passare per il fuoco? 22 In mezzo a tutte le tue abominazioni e alle tue prostituzioni, non ti sei ricordata dei giorni della tua giovinezza, quando eri nuda, scoperta, e ti dibattevi nel sangue.

23 Ora dopo tutta la tua malvagità, guai! guai a te! –dice Dio, il Signore, – 24 ti sei costruita un bordello; ti sei fatta un alto luogo in ogni piazza pubblica: 25 hai costruito un alto luogo a ogni capo di strada, hai reso abominevole la tua bellezza, ti sei offerta a ogni passante; hai moltiplicato le tue prostituzioni. 26 Ti sei prostituita agli Egiziani, tuoi vicini dalle membra vigorose, e hai moltiplicato le tue prostituzioni per provocare la mia ira. 27 Perciò, ecco, io ho steso la mia mano contro di te, ho diminuito la razione che ti avevo fissata, e ti ho abbandonata in balia delle figlie dei *Filistei, che ti odiano e hanno vergogna della tua condotta scellerata. 28 Non sazia ancora, ti sei pure prostituita agli Assiri; ti sei prostituita a loro; ma neppure allora sei stata sazia! 29 Hai moltiplicato le tue prostituzioni con il paese di Canaan fino in *Caldea, ma neppure con questo sei stata sazia. 30 Com'è vile il tuo cuore, dice Dio, il Signore, a ridurti a fare tutte queste cose, da sfacciata prostituta! 31 Quando ti costruivi il bordello a ogni capo di strada e ti facevi gli alti luoghi in ogni pubblica piazza, tu non eri come una prostituta, poiché disprezzavi il salario, 32 ma come una donna adultera, che riceve gli stranieri invece di suo marito. 33 A tutte le prostitute si fanno regali; ma tu hai dato regali a tutti i tuoi amanti, li hai sedotti con i doni, perché venissero a te, da tutte le parti, per le tue prostituzioni. 34 Con te, nelle tue prostituzioni è avvenuto il contrario delle altre donne; poiché non eri tu la sollecitata; in quanto tu pagavi, invece di essere pagata, facevi il contrario delle altre”».

35 (B)«“Perciò, prostituta, ascolta la parola del Signore. 36 Cosí parla Dio, il Signore: Poiché il tuo denaro è stato dilapidato e la tua nudità è stata scoperta nelle tue prostituzioni con i tuoi amanti, a motivo di tutti i tuoi idoli abominevoli e a causa del sangue dei tuoi figli che hai dato loro, 37 ecco, io radunerò tutti i tuoi amanti ai quali ti sei resa gradita, tutti quelli che hai amati e tutti quelli che hai odiati; li radunerò da tutte le parti contro di te, scoprirò davanti a loro la tua nudità ed essi vedranno tutta la tua nudità. 38 Io ti giudicherò alla stregua delle donne che commettono adulterio e spargono il sangue; farò che il tuo sangue sia sparso dal furore e dalla gelosia. 39 Ti darò nelle loro mani ed essi abbatteranno il tuo bordello, distruggeranno i tuoi alti luoghi, ti spoglieranno delle tue vesti, ti prenderanno i bei gioielli e ti lasceranno nuda e scoperta; 40 faranno salire contro di te una moltitudine e ti lapideranno e ti trafiggeranno con le loro spade; 41 daranno alle fiamme le tue case, faranno giustizia di te in presenza di molte donne; io ti farò cessare dal fare la prostituta e tu non pagherai piú nessuno. 42 Cosí io sfogherò il mio furore su di te e la mia gelosia si distoglierà da te; mi calmerò e non sarò piú adirato. 43 Poiché tu non ti sei ricordata dei giorni della tua giovinezza e hai provocato la mia ira con tutte queste cose, ecco, anch'io ti farò ricadere sul capo la tua condotta, dice Dio, il Signore, e tu non aggiungerai altri delitti a tutte le tue abominazioni.

44 (C)«“Ecco, tutti quelli che usano proverbi faranno di te un proverbio, e diranno: `Quale la madre, tale la figlia´. 45 Tu sei figlia di tua madre, che ebbe a sdegno suo marito e i suoi figli; sei sorella delle tue sorelle, che ebbero a sdegno i loro mariti e i loro figli. Vostra madre era un'Ittita, e vostro padre un Amoreo. 46 Tua sorella maggiore, che ti sta a sinistra, è *Samaria, con le sue figlie; tua sorella minore, che ti sta a destra, è *Sodoma, con le sue figlie. 47 Tu, non soltanto hai camminato nelle loro vie e commesso le stesse loro abominazioni; era troppo poco! ma in tutte le tue vie ti sei corrotta piú di loro. 48 Com'è vero che io vivo, dice Dio, il Signore, tua sorella Sodoma e le sue figlie non hanno fatto ciò che avete fatto tu e le figlie tue. 49 Ecco, questa fu l'iniquità di Sodoma, tua sorella: lei e le sue figlie vivevano nell'orgoglio, nell'abbondanza del pane, e nell'ozio indolente; ma non sostenevano la mano dell'afflitto e del povero. 50 Erano superbe e commettevano abominazioni in mia presenza; perciò le feci sparire, quando vidi ciò. 51 Samaria non ha commesso la metà dei tuoi peccati; tu hai moltiplicato le tue abominazioni piú dell'una e dell'altra; hai giustificato le tue sorelle, con tutte le abominazioni che hai commesse. 52 Anche tu, che difendevi le tue sorelle, subisci il disonore a causa dei tuoi peccati con cui ti sei resa piú abominevole di loro! Esse sono piú giuste di te. Tu, dunque, verg¢gnati e subisci il disonore, poiché tu hai fatto apparire giuste le tue sorelle! 53 Ma io farò tornare dalla deportazione quanti di Sodoma e delle sue figlie[a] si trovano là, quanti di Samaria e delle sue figlie, e anche dei tuoi sono in mezzo a essi, 54 affinché tu subisca il disonore e porti la vergogna di quanto hai fatto, e sia cosí loro di conforto. 55 Tua sorella Sodoma e le sue figlie torneranno nella loro condizione di prima, Samaria e le sue figlie torneranno nella loro condizione di prima, e tu e le tue figlie tornerete nella vostra condizione di prima. 56 Sodoma, tua sorella, non era neppure nominata dalla tua bocca, nei giorni della tua superbia, 57 prima che la tua malvagità fosse messa a nudo, come avvenne quando fosti disprezzata dalle figlie della Siria e da tutti i paesi circostanti, dalle figlie dei Filistei, che t'insultavano da tutte le parti. 58 Tu porti a tua volta il peso della tua scelleratezza e delle tue abominazioni, dice il Signore.

59 (D)«“Poiché, cosí parla Dio, il Signore: Io farò a te come hai fatto tu, che hai disprezzato il giuramento, infrangendo il patto. 60 Tuttavia mi ricorderò del patto che feci con te nei giorni della tua giovinezza e stabilirò per te un patto eterno. 61 Tu ti ricorderai della tua condotta e ne avrai vergogna, quando riceverai le tue sorelle, quelle che sono piú grandi e quelle che sono piú piccole di te; io te le darò per figlie, ma non in virtú del tuo patto. 62 Io stabilirò il mio patto con te e tu conoscerai che io sono il Signore, 63 affinché tu ricordi, tu arrossisca e tu non possa piú aprir la bocca dalla vergogna, quando ti avrò perdonato tutto quello che hai fatto, dice Dio, il Signore”».

16 Opet sam čuo BOGA kako mi govori: 2 »Čovječe, trebaš govoriti ljudima u gradu Jeruzalemu o svim njezinim[a] gadostima. 3 Reci da joj Gospodar BOG poručuje: ‘Jeruzaleme, porijeklom i rođenjem si iz zemlje Kanaan. Otac ti je bio Amorejac, a majka Hetitkinja. 4 Na dan kad si rođena, nitko ti nije presjekao pupčanu vrpcu. Nisu te okupali vodom niti očistili. Nisu te istrljali solju niti povili u čiste tkanine. 5 Nitko ti se nije smilovao niti učinio išta od toga. Izbacili su te van, na polje. Nitko te nije htio na dan tvog rođenja.

6 No ja sam prošao onuda, vidio te kako se valjaš u vlastitoj krvi i rekao ti: Živi! 7 Pomogao sam ti da izrasteš kao biljka u polju. Narasla si i sazrela u lijepu, mladu ženu. Počela ti je mjesečnica, zaoblile se grudi i narasle ti dlake po tijelu. Ali još uvijek si bila gola i bosa. 8 Kada sam te ponovo ugledao, bila si već dorasla za ljubav. Prebacio sam svoj ogrtač preko tebe i pokrio tvoju golotinju. Obećao sam ti brak. Sklopio sam savez s tobom i postala si moja.’« Tako je govorio Gospodar BOG.

9 »Oprao sam te u vodi i sprao krv s tvoga tijela. Namazao sam te uljem. 10 Obukao sam te u izvezenu haljinu i obuo ti kožne sandale. Omotao sam ti glavu tankim lanom i ogrnuo je svilom. 11 Ukrasio sam te nakitom, stavio narukvice na ruke i ogrlicu oko vrata. 12 Dao sam ti ukrasni prsten za nos, naušnice i prekrasnu krunu. 13 Sva si bila okićena zlatom i srebrom. Odjeća ti je bila od tankog lana i svile, bogato izvezena. Hranila si se kruhom od najfinijeg brašna, medom i maslinovim uljem. Bila si prelijepa. Postala si prava kraljica. 14 Svi narodi čuli su o tvojoj ljepoti. Bila si savršena u divoti kojom sam te okružio«, pričao je Gospodar BOG.

Jeruzalem kao nevjerna žena

15 »Ali pouzdala si se u svoju ljepotu, čija te slava zavela u blud. Svoju si ljepotu na uživanje nudila svakom prolazniku. 16 Uzela si svoju odjeću i njome ukrasila svetišta. Ondje si se nudila kao prostitutka. Mogao te imati svatko tko je prolazio. 17 Uzela si svoj lijepi nakit od zlata i srebra, koji sam ti dao, pa si od toga dala napraviti muške kipove s kojima si bludničila[b]. 18 Pokrila si ih svojim izvezenim tkaninama, a pred njih stavila moja mirisna ulja i tamjan. 19 Hranu, koju sam ti davao—fino brašno, med i maslinovo ulje—stavila si pred svoje idole da im fino miriše«, pričao je Gospodar BOG.

20 »Ubila si svoje sinove i kćeri, djecu koju si meni rodila. Žrtvovala si ih kao hranu da bi jeli tvoji idoli. No to su bili samo neki od primjera tvoje nevjere. 21 Zaklala si moju djecu, a njihova tijela spalila kao žrtvu u čast idolima! 22 U svim svojim gadostima i razvratu nisi se sjećala svoje mladosti kad si bila gola i bosa, kad si se valjala u vlastitoj krvi.«

23 »Jao, tebi Jeruzaleme! Jao tebi!« kaže Gospodar BOG. »A onda si još nakon sveg toga zla 24 postavila šatore za prostituciju. Bilo ih je na svakom trgu. 25 Na svakom si uglu sramotno koristila svoju ljepotu. Zaustavljala si svakog prolaznika i širila noge kao prostitutka. Sve si se više prostituirala. 26 Bludničila si s pohotnim Egipćanima i sve većim razvratom izazivala moj gnjev. 27 Zato sam te kaznio i umanjio ti nasljedstvo. Predao sam te Filistejkama koje su te mrzile i zgražavale se nad tobom. 28 Nezasitna, bludničila si i s Asircima. Ali nije ti bilo dosta. 29 Onda si se okrenula Babiloniji, zemlji trgovaca, ali ni to te nije zadovoljilo. 30 Kako sam se razljutio na tebe zbog svega toga! Ponašala si se kao bestidna prostitutka, a to i jesi!« kaže Gospodar BOG.

31 »Postavila si svoje šatore i štandove na svakom uglu i na svakom trgu pa si ondje sa svima bludničila. Ali nisi bila kao druge prostitutke jer nisi uzimala novac. 32 Preljubnice! Radije si imala odnose sa strancima nego s vlastitim mužem. 33 Sve druge prostitutke primaju plaću od svojih mušterija, a ti si plaćala svim svojim ljubavnicima. Podmićivala si ih da bi odasvud došli k tebi. 34 Bila si drugačija od svih prostitutki koje traže novac. Plaćala si drugima da bi s tobom spavali.«

35 Zato sada, Jeruzaleme, prostitutko, slušaj što ti poručuje BOG! 36 Gospodar BOG kaže: »Izložila si svoju požudu. Razvratno si se razotkrivala i imala seksualne odnose s mnogim ljubavnicima. Štovala si odvratne idole. Žrtvovala si im živote[c] svoje djece. 37 Stoga, sad ću okupiti sve tvoje ljubavnike s kojima si uživala, sve one koje si jednom voljela ili mrzila. Skupit ću ih sa svih strana i pred njima razotkriti tvoju golotinju.[d] Vidjet će te potpuno golu. 38 Osudit ću te kao ženu koja je prekršila bračni savez i kao ubojicu. Kaznit ću te smrću, kao bijesni ljubomorni muž. 39 Predat ću te u ruke tvojim ljubavnicima. Oni će razoriti tvoje šatore i štandove, strgnuti s tebe odjeću i tvoj lijepi nakit. Ostavit će te potpuno golu. 40 Pustit će na tebe razjarenu rulju koja će te kamenovati i sasjeći mačevima na komade. 41 Spalit će tvoje kuće i kazniti te pred svim drugim ženama. Učinit ću da prestane tvoj razvratni život. Više nećeš plaćati svojim ljubavnicima. 42 A onda će se stišati moj gnjev i prestat će moja ljubomora prema tebi. Smirit ću se i više neću biti bijesan. 43 Nisi se sjećala svoje mladosti i svojim si ponašanjem izazivala moj bijes. Zato ću te sada kazniti za sve što si učinila«, rekao je Gospodar BOG.

»Povrh svih gadosti, dodala si i razvrat. 44 Ljudi će o tebi govoriti izreku: ‘Kakva majka, takva kći.’ 45 Prava si kći svoje majke. Odbacila si svog muža i svoju djecu. Prava si sestra svojih sestara. I one su odbacile svoje muževe i djecu. Majka ti je bila Hetitkinja, a otac Amorejac. 46 Sjeverno od tebe, živjela je tvoja starija sestra Samarija sa svojim kćerima. Južno od tebe, bila je tvoja mlađa sestra Sodoma sa svojim kćerima[e]. 47 Ne samo što si pošla njihovim putem i povela se za njihovim gadostima, već si ubrzo postala gora od njih. 48 Zaklinjem se samim sobom«, kaže Gospodar BOG, »tvoja sestra Sodoma i njezine kćeri nikad nisu činile toliko zla kao ti i tvoje kćeri.

49 Tvoja sestra Sodoma i njezine kćeri bile su krive za oholost i proždrljivost. Bile su krive su za lagodan život u kojem nisu pomagale siromašnima ni jadnima. 50 Bile su uobražene i činile su gadosti preda mnom. Kad sam to vidio, uništio sam ih. 51 Samarija nije počinila ni pola tvojih grijeha. Ti si napravila više gadosti od obje svoje sestre zajedno. One se još doimaju dobre u usporedbi s tobom. 52 Podnesi sada svoju sramotu. Učinila si da se tvoje sestre doimaju dobrima jer su tvoji grijesi odvratniji od njihovih. Sada se crveni i srami, jer si učinila da tvoje sestre izgledaju nedužno.«

53 »No obnovit ću Samariju i Sodomu, kao i sve gradove i sela oko njih[f]. Obnovit ću i tebe, Jeruzaleme. 54 Tada ćeš se svega sjećati i morat ćeš nositi svoju sramotu i ruglo. A zbog tvoje sramote, tvoje sestre Sodoma i Samarija osjećat će se bolje. 55 Tvoje sestre Sodoma i Samarija, s gradovima i selima oko njih, bit će ponovo izgrađene, a tako će biti s tobom i tvojom okolicom, Jeruzaleme.

56 Prije si bila ponosna i izrugivala se svojoj sestri Sodomi. 57 Bilo je to prije nego što se otkrila tvoja zloća. Sada i tebe svi preziru. Gradovi Edoma[g] i Filisteje, rugaju ti se. 58 Sada patiš zbog razvrata i gadosti koje si činila«, kaže BOG.

Bog ostaje vjeran

59 Stoga, Gospodar BOG kaže: »Postupit ću s tobom kao što zaslužuješ. Prezrela si naš zavjet i raskinula naš savez. 60 No ja ću se sjećati svog saveza s tobom dok si bila mlada. Održat ću s tobom savez koji će trajati zauvijek. 61 Dovest ću tvoju stariju i mlađu sestru. One će ti sada biti kao kćeri. Učinit ću to za tebe iako ti to nisam obećao. Tada ćeš se sjetiti svega što si učinila i bit će te sram. 62 Održat ću svoj savez s tobom, a ti ćeš znati da sam ja BOG. 63 Sjećat ćeš se svega i sramiti se. Od srama nećeš reći ni riječ nakon što ti sve oprostim.« Tako je rekao Gospodar BOG.
