The Valley of Dry Bones

37 (A)The hand of the Lord was upon me, and (B)he brought me out in the Spirit of the Lord and set me down in the middle of the valley;[a] it was full of bones. 2 And he led me around among them, and behold, there were very many on the surface of the valley, and behold, they were very dry. 3 And he said to me, (C)“Son of man, (D)can these bones live?” And (E)I answered, “O Lord God, you know.” 4 Then he said to me, (F)“Prophesy over these bones, and say to them, (G)O dry bones, hear the word of the Lord. 5 Thus says the Lord God to these bones: Behold, I will cause (H)breath[b] to enter you, and you shall live. 6 (I)And I will lay sinews upon you, and will cause flesh to come upon you, and (J)cover you with skin, and put breath in you, and you shall live, (K)and you shall know that I am the Lord.”

7 So I prophesied (L)as I was commanded. And as I prophesied, there was a sound, and behold, (M)a rattling,[c] and the bones came together, bone to its bone. 8 And I looked, and behold, there were sinews on them, and flesh had come upon them, and skin had covered them. But (N)there was no breath in them. 9 Then he said to me, (O)“Prophesy to the breath; prophesy, (P)son of man, and say to the breath, Thus says the Lord God: Come from (Q)the four winds, O breath, and breathe on these slain, that they may live.” 10 So I prophesied (R)as he commanded me, and (S)the breath came into them, and they lived and stood on their feet, an exceedingly great army.

11 Then he said to me, (T)“Son of man, these bones are the whole house of Israel. Behold, they say, ‘Our bones are dried up, and (U)our hope is lost; (V)we are indeed cut off.’ 12 Therefore (W)prophesy, and say to them, Thus says the Lord God: Behold, (X)I will open your graves and raise you from your graves, O my people. And (Y)I will bring you into the land of Israel. 13 And (Z)you shall know that I am the Lord, when I open your graves, and raise you from your graves, O my people. 14 And (AA)I will put my Spirit within you, and you shall live, and I will place you in your own land. Then you shall know that I am the Lord; (AB)I have spoken, and I will do it, declares the Lord.”

I Will Be Their God; They Shall Be My People

15 The word of the Lord came to me: 16 (AC)“Son of man, (AD)take a stick[d] and write on it, ‘For (AE)Judah, and (AF)the people of Israel associated with him’; then take another stick and write on it, ‘For (AG)Joseph (the stick of (AH)Ephraim) and all the house of Israel associated with him.’ 17 And (AI)join them one to another into one stick, that (AJ)they may become (AK)one in your hand. 18 And when (AL)your people say to you, (AM)‘Will you not tell us what you mean by these?’ 19 say to them, Thus says the Lord God: Behold, I am about to take (AN)the stick of Joseph (that is in the hand of Ephraim) and the tribes of Israel associated with him. And I will join with it the (AO)stick of Judah,[e] and (AP)make them one stick, (AQ)that they may be one in my hand. 20 When the sticks on which you write are in your hand (AR)before their eyes, 21 then say to them, Thus says the Lord God: Behold, (AS)I will take the people of Israel from the nations among which they have gone, and will gather them from all around, and (AT)bring them to their own land. 22 And (AU)I will make them one nation in the land, on (AV)the mountains of Israel. And (AW)one king shall be king over them all, and they shall be no longer (AX)two nations, and no longer divided into two kingdoms. 23 (AY)They shall not (AZ)defile themselves anymore (BA)with their idols and their detestable things, or with any of their transgressions. But (BB)I will save them from all the backslidings[f] in which they have sinned, and will cleanse them; and (BC)they shall be my people, and I will be their God.

24 “My servant (BD)David (BE)shall be king over them, and they shall all have (BF)one shepherd. (BG)They shall walk in my rules and be careful to obey my statutes. 25 (BH)They shall dwell in the land that I gave to my servant Jacob, where your fathers lived. They and their children and their children's children shall dwell there (BI)forever, and David my servant shall be their prince (BJ)forever. 26 (BK)I will make a covenant of peace with them. It shall be (BL)an everlasting covenant with them. And I will set them in their land[g] and (BM)multiply them, and will (BN)set my sanctuary in their midst forevermore. 27 (BO)My dwelling place shall be with them, (BP)and I will be their God, and they shall be my people. 28 Then (BQ)the nations will know that (BR)I am the Lord who sanctifies Israel, when (BS)my sanctuary is in their midst forevermore.”

Prophecy Against Gog

38 The word of the Lord came to me: 2 (BT)“Son of man, (BU)set your face toward (BV)Gog, of the land of (BW)Magog, the (BX)chief prince of (BY)Meshech[h] and (BZ)Tubal, and (CA)prophesy against him 3 and say, Thus says the Lord God: Behold, (CB)I am against you, O Gog, chief prince of Meshech[i] and Tubal. 4 (CC)And I will turn you about and (CD)put hooks into your jaws, and I will bring you out, and (CE)all your army, horses and horsemen, all of them clothed in full armor, a great host, all of them with buckler and shield, wielding swords. 5 (CF)Persia, (CG)Cush, and (CH)Put are with them, all of them with shield and helmet; 6 (CI)Gomer and all his (CJ)hordes; (CK)Beth-togarmah from (CL)the uttermost parts of the north with all his hordes—(CM)many peoples are with you.

7 (CN)“Be ready and keep ready, you and all your hosts that are assembled about you, and be a guard for them. 8 (CO)After many days you will be mustered. (CP)In the latter years you will go against (CQ)the land that is restored from war, the land whose people (CR)were gathered from many peoples upon (CS)the mountains of Israel, which had been a continual waste. Its people were brought out from the peoples and (CT)now dwell securely, all of them. 9 You will advance, coming on (CU)like a storm. You will be (CV)like a cloud covering the land, you and all your (CW)hordes, and many peoples with you.

10 “Thus says the Lord God: On that day, (CX)thoughts will come into your mind, and you will devise an evil scheme 11 and say, ‘I will go up against (CY)the land of unwalled villages. I will fall upon (CZ)the quiet people who dwell securely, all of them dwelling without walls, and having no bars or gates,’ 12 to seize spoil and carry off plunder, to turn your hand against (DA)the waste places that are now inhabited, and (DB)the people who were gathered from the nations, who have acquired livestock and goods, (DC)who dwell at the center of the earth. 13 (DD)Sheba and (DE)Dedan and the merchants of Tarshish and all (DF)its leaders[j] will say to you, ‘Have you come to seize spoil? Have you assembled your hosts to carry off plunder, to carry away silver and gold, to take away livestock and goods, to seize great spoil?’

14 “Therefore, (DG)son of man, prophesy, and say to (DH)Gog, Thus says the Lord God: On that day when my people Israel are (DI)dwelling securely, (DJ)will you not know it? 15 You will come from your place out of (DK)the uttermost parts of the north, you and (DL)many peoples with you, (DM)all of them riding on horses, a great host, a mighty army. 16 You will come up against my people Israel, (DN)like a cloud covering the land. (DO)In the latter days I will bring you against my land, that the nations may know me, when through you, O Gog, (DP)I vindicate my holiness before their eyes.

17 “Thus says the Lord God: Are you (DQ)he of whom I spoke in former days by my servants the prophets of Israel, who in those days prophesied for years that I would bring you against them? 18 But on that day, the day that Gog shall come against the land of Israel, declares the Lord God, (DR)my wrath will be roused in my anger. 19 For (DS)in my jealousy and in my blazing wrath I declare, On that day (DT)there shall be a great earthquake in the land of Israel. 20 (DU)The fish of the sea and the birds of the heavens and the beasts of the field and all creeping things that creep on the ground, and all the people who are on the face of the earth, (DV)shall quake at my presence. And (DW)the mountains shall be thrown down, and the cliffs shall fall, and every wall shall tumble to the ground. 21 (DX)I will summon a sword against Gog[k] on all my mountains, declares the Lord God. (DY)Every man's sword will be against his brother. 22 With pestilence and bloodshed (DZ)I will enter into judgment with him, and (EA)I will rain upon him and (EB)his hordes and the many peoples who are with him (EC)torrential rains and hailstones, (ED)fire and sulfur. 23 So I will show my greatness and my (EE)holiness and (EF)make myself known in the eyes of many nations. Then (EG)they will know that I am the Lord.

39 “And you, (EH)son of man, (EI)prophesy against (EJ)Gog and say, Thus says the Lord God: Behold, (EK)I am against you, O Gog, (EL)chief prince of (EM)Meshech[l] and (EN)Tubal. 2 (EO)And I will turn you about and drive you forward,[m] and bring you up from (EP)the uttermost parts of the north, and lead you against the (EQ)mountains of Israel. 3 Then (ER)I will strike your bow from your left hand, and (ES)will make your arrows drop out of your right hand. 4 (ET)You shall fall on (EU)the mountains of Israel, you and all your (EV)hordes and the peoples who are with you. (EW)I will give you to birds of prey of every sort and to the beasts of the field to be devoured. 5 You shall fall in the open field, for (EX)I have spoken, declares the Lord God. 6 (EY)I will send fire on (EZ)Magog and on those (FA)who dwell securely in (FB)the coastlands, and (FC)they shall know that I am the Lord.

7 “And (FD)my holy name I will make known in the midst of my people Israel, and (FE)I will not let my holy name be profaned anymore. And (FF)the nations shall know that I am (FG)the Lord, the Holy One in Israel. 8 (FH)Behold, it is coming and it will be brought about, declares the Lord God. That is the day (FI)of which I have spoken.

9 “Then those who dwell in the cities of Israel will go out and (FJ)make fires of the weapons and burn them, shields and bucklers, bow and arrows, (FK)clubs[n] and spears; and they will make fires of them for seven years, 10 so that they will not need to take wood out of the field or cut down any out of the forests, for (FL)they will make their fires of the weapons. (FM)They will seize the spoil of those who despoiled them, and plunder those who plundered them, declares the Lord God.

11 “On that day I will give to (FN)Gog a place for burial in Israel, the Valley of the Travelers, east of the sea. It will block the travelers, for there Gog and all his multitude will be buried. It will be called the Valley of (FO)Hamon-gog.[o] 12 For (FP)seven months the house of Israel will be burying them, in order (FQ)to cleanse the land. 13 All the people of the land will bury them, and it will bring them renown on the day that (FR)I show my glory, declares the Lord God. 14 They will set apart men to travel through the land regularly and bury those travelers remaining on the face of the land, so as (FS)to cleanse it. At[p] the end of (FT)seven months they will make their search. 15 And when these travel through the land and anyone sees a human bone, then he shall set up a sign by it, till the buriers have buried it in the Valley of (FU)Hamon-gog. 16 (Hamonah[q] is also the name of the city.) Thus shall they cleanse the land.

17 “As for you, (FV)son of man, thus says the Lord God: (FW)Speak to (FX)the birds of every sort and to (FY)all beasts of the field: ‘Assemble and come, gather from all around to (FZ)the sacrificial feast that I am preparing for you, a great sacrificial feast on the mountains of Israel, and you shall eat flesh and drink blood. 18 (GA)You shall eat the flesh of the mighty, and drink the blood of the princes of the earth—of rams, of lambs, and of he-goats, of bulls, all of them (GB)fat beasts of Bashan. 19 And you shall eat fat till you are filled, and drink blood till you are drunk, at the sacrificial feast that I am preparing for you. 20 And you shall be filled at my table with horses and charioteers, with mighty men and all kinds of warriors,’ declares the Lord God.

21 “And (GC)I will set my glory among the nations, and all the nations shall see (GD)my judgment that I have executed, and (GE)my hand that I have laid on them. 22 (GF)The house of Israel shall know that I am the Lord their God, from that day forward. 23 And (GG)the nations shall know that the house of Israel went into captivity for their iniquity, because they dealt so treacherously with me that (GH)I hid my face from them and (GI)gave them into the hand of their adversaries, and they all fell by the sword. 24 I dealt with them (GJ)according to their uncleanness and their transgressions, and hid my face from them.

The Lord Will Restore Israel

25 “Therefore thus says the Lord God: Now (GK)I will restore the fortunes of Jacob and have mercy on (GL)the whole house of Israel, and (GM)I will be jealous for my holy name. 26 They shall (GN)forget their shame and all the treachery they have practiced against me, when (GO)they dwell securely in their land with (GP)none to make them afraid, 27 (GQ)when I have brought them back from the peoples and gathered them from their enemies' lands, (GR)and through them have vindicated my holiness in the sight of many nations. 28 (GS)Then they shall know that I am the Lord their God, because I sent them into exile among the nations and then assembled them into their own land. I will leave none of them remaining among the nations anymore. 29 (GT)And I will not hide my face anymore from them, when (GU)I pour out my Spirit upon the house of Israel, declares the Lord God.”

Vision of the New Temple

40 (GV)In the twenty-fifth year (GW)of our exile, at the beginning of the year, on the tenth day of the month, (GX)in the fourteenth year after the city was struck down, on that very day, (GY)the hand of the Lord was upon me, and he brought me to the city.[r] 2 In (GZ)visions of God he brought me to the land of Israel, and set me down on (HA)a very high mountain, on which was a structure like a city to the south. 3 When he brought me there, behold, there was (HB)a man whose appearance was (HC)like bronze, with (HD)a linen cord and (HE)a measuring reed in his hand. And he was standing in the gateway. 4 And the man said to me, (HF)“Son of man, (HG)look with your eyes, and (HH)hear with your ears, and set your heart upon all that I shall show you, for you were brought here in order that I might show it to you. (HI)Declare all that you see to the house of Israel.”

The East Gate to the Outer Court

5 And behold, there was (HJ)a wall all around the outside of the temple area, and the length of the measuring reed in the man's hand was six long cubits, (HK)each being a cubit and a handbreadth[s] in length. So he measured the thickness of the wall, one reed; and the height, one reed. 6 Then he went into (HL)the gateway facing east, (HM)going up its steps, and measured the threshold of the gate, one reed deep.[t] 7 And (HN)the side rooms, one reed long and one reed broad; and the space between the side rooms, five cubits; and the threshold of the gate by the vestibule of the gate at the inner end, one reed. 8 Then he measured the vestibule of the gateway, on the inside, one reed. 9 Then he measured the vestibule of the gateway, eight cubits; (HO)and its jambs, two cubits; and the vestibule of the gate was at the inner end. 10 And there were three side rooms on either side of the east gate. (HP)The three were of the same size, and the jambs on either side were of the same size. 11 Then he measured the width of the opening of the gateway, ten cubits; and the length of the gateway, thirteen cubits. 12 There was a barrier before the side rooms, one cubit on either side. And the side rooms were six cubits on either side. 13 Then he measured the gate from the ceiling of the one side room to the ceiling of the other, a breadth of twenty-five cubits; the openings faced each other. 14 He measured also (HQ)the vestibule, sixty cubits. And around the vestibule of the gateway was the court.[u] 15 From the front of the gate at the entrance to the front of the inner vestibule of the gate was fifty cubits. 16 And the gateway had (HR)windows all around, narrowing inwards toward the side rooms and toward their (HS)jambs, and likewise the vestibule had windows all around inside, and on the jambs were (HT)palm trees.

The Outer Court

17 Then he brought me into (HU)the outer court. And behold, there were (HV)chambers and a (HW)pavement, all around the court. (HX)Thirty chambers faced the pavement. 18 And the pavement ran along the side of the gates, corresponding to the length of the gates. This was the lower pavement. 19 Then he measured the distance from the inner front of the lower gate to the outer front of the inner court,[v] a hundred cubits on the east side and on the north side.[w]

The North Gate

20 As for (HY)the gate that faced toward the north, belonging to (HZ)the outer court, he measured its length and its breadth. 21 Its (IA)side rooms, three on either side, and its jambs and its vestibule were of the same size as those of (IB)the first gate. Its length was (IC)fifty cubits, and its breadth (ID)twenty-five cubits. 22 And (IE)its windows, its vestibule, and (IF)its palm trees were of the same size as those of the gate that faced toward the east. And by seven steps (IG)people would go up to it, and find its vestibule before them. 23 And opposite the gate on the north, as on the east, was a gate to (IH)the inner court. And (II)he measured from gate to gate, a hundred cubits.

The South Gate

24 And he led me toward the south, and behold, there was a gate on the south. And (IJ)he measured its jambs and its vestibule; they had the same size as the others. 25 Both it and its vestibule (IK)had windows all around, like the windows of the others. Its length was fifty cubits, and its breadth twenty-five cubits. 26 And there were seven steps leading up to it, and its vestibule was before them, and it had (IL)palm trees on its jambs, one on either side. 27 And there was a gate on the south of (IM)the inner court. And he measured from gate to gate toward the south, a hundred cubits.

The Inner Court

28 Then he brought me to (IN)the inner court through the south gate, and (IO)he measured the south gate. It was of the same size as the others. 29 Its (IP)side rooms, its jambs, and its vestibule were of the same size as the others, and both it and its vestibule (IQ)had windows all around. (IR)Its length was fifty cubits, and its breadth twenty-five cubits. 30 And there were vestibules all around, twenty-five cubits long and five cubits broad. 31 Its vestibule faced the outer court, and (IS)palm trees were on its jambs, and (IT)its stairway had eight steps.

32 Then he brought me to the inner court on the east side, and (IU)he measured the gate. It was of the same size as the others. 33 Its side rooms, its jambs, and its vestibule were of the same size as the others, and both it and its vestibule had windows all around. Its length was fifty cubits, and its breadth twenty-five cubits. 34 (IV)Its vestibule faced the outer court, and it had palm trees on its jambs, on either side, and its stairway had eight steps.

35 Then he brought me to (IW)the north gate, and (IX)he measured it. It had the same size as the others. 36 Its side rooms, its jambs, and its vestibule were of the same size as the others,[x] and it had windows all around. Its length was fifty cubits, and its breadth twenty-five cubits. 37 Its vestibule[y] faced the outer court, and it had palm trees on its jambs, on either side, and its stairway had eight steps.

38 There was (IY)a chamber with its door in the vestibule of the gate,[z] (IZ)where the burnt offering was to be washed. 39 And in the vestibule of the gate were two (JA)tables on either side, on which the (JB)burnt offering and the (JC)sin offering and the (JD)guilt offering were to be slaughtered. 40 And off to the side, on the outside as one goes up to the entrance of the north gate, were two tables; and off to the other side of the vestibule of the gate were two tables. 41 (JE)Four tables were on either side of the gate, eight tables, (JF)on which to slaughter. 42 And there were four tables (JG)of hewn stone for the burnt offering, a cubit and a half long, and a cubit and a half broad, and one cubit high, on which the instruments were to be laid with which the (JH)burnt offerings and the sacrifices were slaughtered. 43 And hooks,[aa] a handbreadth long, were fastened all around within. And on the tables the flesh of the offering was to be laid.

Chambers for the Priests

44 On the outside of the inner gateway there were two (JI)chambers[ab] in the (JJ)inner court, one[ac] at the side of the north gate facing south, the other at the side of the south[ad] gate facing north. 45 And he said to me, “This chamber that faces south is for the priests (JK)who have charge of the temple, 46 and the chamber that faces north is for the priests (JL)who have charge of the altar. These are (JM)the sons of Zadok, who alone[ae] among the sons of Levi may come (JN)near to the Lord to minister to him.” 47 And he measured the court, (JO)a hundred cubits long and (JP)a hundred cubits broad, a square. And (JQ)the altar was in front of the temple.

The Vestibule of the Temple

48 Then he brought me to (JR)the vestibule of the temple and measured the (JS)jambs of the vestibule, five cubits on either side. And the breadth of the gate was fourteen cubits, and the sidewalls of the gate[af] were three cubits on either side. 49 (JT)The length of the vestibule was twenty cubits, and the breadth twelve[ag] cubits, and people would go up to it by ten steps.[ah] And there were pillars beside the jambs, one on either side.

The Inner Temple

41 Then he brought me to (JU)the nave and measured the (JV)jambs. On each side six cubits[ai] was the breadth of the jambs.[aj] 2 And the breadth of the entrance was ten cubits, and the sidewalls of the entrance were five cubits on either side. And he measured the length of the nave,[ak] (JW)forty cubits, and its breadth, (JX)twenty cubits. 3 Then he went (JY)into the inner room and measured the jambs of the entrance, two cubits; and the entrance, six cubits; and the sidewalls on either side[al] of the entrance, seven cubits. 4 And he measured (JZ)the length of the room, twenty cubits, and its breadth, twenty cubits, across (KA)the nave. And he said to me, “This is (KB)the Most Holy Place.”

5 Then he measured the wall of the temple, six cubits thick, and the breadth of (KC)the side chambers, four cubits, (KD)all around the temple. 6 And the side chambers were in three stories, one over another, (KE)thirty in each story. There were offsets[am] all around the wall of the temple to serve as supports for the side chambers, (KF)so that they should not be supported by the wall of the temple. 7 And it became broader as it wound upward to the side chambers, because the temple was enclosed upward all around the temple. Thus the temple had a broad area upward, and (KG)so one went up from the lowest story to the top story through the middle story. 8 I saw also that the temple had a raised platform all around; the foundations of the side chambers measured a full reed of (KH)six long cubits. 9 The thickness of the outer wall of the side chambers was five cubits. (KI)The free space between the side chambers of the temple and the 10 (KJ)other chambers was a breadth of (KK)twenty cubits all around the temple on every side. 11 And the doors of the (KL)side chambers opened on (KM)the free space, one door toward the north, and another door toward the south. And the breadth of the free space was five cubits all around.

12 The building that was facing (KN)the separate yard on the west side was seventy cubits broad, and the wall of the building was five cubits thick all around, and its length ninety cubits.

13 Then he measured the temple, (KO)a hundred cubits long; and the yard and the building with its walls, a hundred cubits long; 14 also the breadth of the east front of the temple and the yard, a hundred cubits.

15 Then he measured the length of (KP)the building facing the yard that was at the back and (KQ)its galleries[an] on either side, a hundred cubits.

The inside of the nave and the vestibules of the court, 16 (KR)the thresholds and (KS)the narrow windows and the galleries all around the three of them, opposite the threshold, were paneled with wood all around, from the floor up to the windows (now the windows were covered), 17 to the space above the door, even to the inner room, and on the outside. And on all the walls all around, inside and outside, was a measured pattern.[ao] 18 It was carved of (KT)cherubim and (KU)palm trees, a palm tree between cherub and cherub. Every cherub had two faces: 19 (KV)a human face toward the palm tree on the one side, and the face of a young lion toward the palm tree on the other side. They were carved on the whole temple all around. 20 From the floor to above the door, cherubim and palm trees were carved; similarly the wall of the nave.

21 The doorposts of (KW)the nave were squared, and in front of (KX)the Holy Place was something resembling 22 (KY)an altar of wood, three cubits high, two cubits long, and two cubits broad.[ap] Its corners, its base,[aq] and its walls were of wood. He said to me, “This is (KZ)the table that is before the Lord.” 23 The nave and the Holy Place had each (LA)a double door. 24 The double doors had two leaves apiece, (LB)two swinging leaves for each door. 25 And on the doors of the nave were carved cherubim and palm trees, (LC)such as were carved on the walls. And there was (LD)a canopy[ar] of wood in front of (LE)the vestibule outside. 26 And there were (LF)narrow windows and palm trees on either side, on the sidewalls of the vestibule, (LG)the side chambers of the temple, and the (LH)canopies.

The Temple's Chambers

42 Then he led me out into (LI)the outer court, (LJ)toward the north, and he brought me to (LK)the chambers that were opposite (LL)the separate yard and opposite (LM)the building on the north. 2 The length of the building whose door faced north was (LN)a hundred cubits,[as] and (LO)the breadth fifty cubits. 3 Facing (LP)the twenty cubits that belonged to the inner court, and facing (LQ)the pavement that belonged to the outer court, was (LR)gallery[at] against gallery in three stories. 4 And (LS)before the chambers was a passage inward, ten cubits wide and (LT)a hundred cubits long,[au] and (LU)their doors were on the north. 5 Now the upper chambers were narrower, for the galleries took more away from them than from the lower and middle chambers of the building. 6 For they were in three stories, and they had no pillars like the pillars of the courts. Thus the upper chambers were set back from the ground more than the lower and the middle ones. 7 And (LV)there was a wall outside parallel to the chambers, toward the outer court, opposite the chambers, (LW)fifty cubits long. 8 For the chambers on the outer court were fifty cubits long, while those opposite (LX)the nave[av] were (LY)a hundred cubits long. 9 Below these chambers was (LZ)an entrance on the east side, as one enters them from the outer court.

10 In the thickness of (MA)the wall of the court, on the south[aw] also, opposite (MB)the yard and opposite (MC)the building, there were (MD)chambers 11 with (ME)a passage in front of them. They were similar to the chambers on the north, of the same length and breadth, with the same exits[ax] and arrangements and (MF)doors, 12 as were the entrances of the chambers on the south. There was an entrance at the beginning of the passage, the passage before (MG)the corresponding wall on the east as one enters them.[ay]

13 Then he said to me, “The north chambers and the south chambers opposite (MH)the yard are the holy chambers, (MI)where the priests who approach the Lord (MJ)shall eat the (MK)most holy offerings. There they shall put the most holy offerings—(ML)the grain offering, (MM)the sin offering, and (MN)the guilt offering—for the place is holy. 14 When the priests enter the Holy Place, they shall not go out of it into the outer court (MO)without laying there the garments in which they minister, for these are holy. (MP)They shall put on other garments before they go near to that which is for the people.”

15 Now when he had finished measuring the interior of the temple area, he led me out by (MQ)the gate that faced east, and measured the temple area all around. 16 He measured the east side with (MR)the measuring reed, 500 cubits by the measuring reed all around. 17 He measured the north side, 500 cubits by the measuring reed all around. 18 He measured the south side, 500 cubits by the measuring reed. 19 Then he turned to the west side and measured, 500 cubits by the measuring reed. 20 He measured it on the four sides. It had (MS)a wall around it, (MT)500 cubits long and (MU)500 cubits broad, (MV)to make a separation between the holy and the common.

The Valley of Dry Bones

37 The hand of the Lord was on me,(A) and he brought me out by the Spirit(B) of the Lord and set me in the middle of a valley;(C) it was full of bones.(D) 2 He led me back and forth among them, and I saw a great many bones on the floor of the valley, bones that were very dry. 3 He asked me, “Son of man, can these bones live?”

I said, “Sovereign Lord, you alone know.(E)”

4 Then he said to me, “Prophesy to these bones and say to them, ‘Dry bones, hear the word of the Lord!(F) 5 This is what the Sovereign Lord says to these bones: I will make breath[a] enter you, and you will come to life.(G) 6 I will attach tendons to you and make flesh come upon you and cover you with skin; I will put breath in you, and you will come to life. Then you will know that I am the Lord.(H)’”

7 So I prophesied as I was commanded. And as I was prophesying, there was a noise, a rattling sound, and the bones came together, bone to bone. 8 I looked, and tendons and flesh appeared on them and skin covered them, but there was no breath in them.

9 Then he said to me, “Prophesy to the breath;(I) prophesy, son of man, and say to it, ‘This is what the Sovereign Lord says: Come, breath, from the four winds(J) and breathe into these slain, that they may live.’” 10 So I prophesied as he commanded(K) me, and breath entered them; they came to life and stood up on their feet—a vast army.(L)

11 Then he said to me: “Son of man, these bones are the people of Israel. They say, ‘Our bones are dried up and our hope is gone; we are cut off.’(M) 12 Therefore prophesy and say to them: ‘This is what the Sovereign Lord says: My people, I am going to open your graves and bring you up from them; I will bring you back to the land of Israel.(N) 13 Then you, my people, will know that I am the Lord,(O) when I open your graves and bring you up from them.(P) 14 I will put my Spirit(Q) in you and you will live, and I will settle(R) you in your own land. Then you will know that I the Lord have spoken, and I have done it, declares the Lord.(S)’”

One Nation Under One King

15 The word of the Lord came to me: 16 “Son of man, take a stick of wood and write on it, ‘Belonging to Judah and the Israelites(T) associated with him.(U)’ Then take another stick of wood, and write on it, ‘Belonging to Joseph (that is, to Ephraim) and all the Israelites associated with him.’ 17 Join them together into one stick so that they will become one in your hand.(V)

18 “When your people ask you, ‘Won’t you tell us what you mean by this?’(W) 19 say to them, ‘This is what the Sovereign Lord says: I am going to take the stick of Joseph—which is in Ephraim’s hand—and of the Israelite tribes associated with him, and join it to Judah’s stick. I will make them into a single stick of wood, and they will become one in my hand.’(X) 20 Hold before their eyes the sticks you have written on 21 and say to them, ‘This is what the Sovereign Lord says: I will take the Israelites out of the nations where they have gone. I will gather them from all around and bring them back into their own land.(Y) 22 I will make them one nation in the land, on the mountains of Israel.(Z) There will be one king over all of them and they will never again be two nations or be divided into two kingdoms.(AA) 23 They will no longer defile(AB) themselves with their idols and vile images or with any of their offenses, for I will save them from all their sinful backsliding,[b](AC) and I will cleanse them. They will be my people, and I will be their God.(AD)

24 “‘My servant David(AE) will be king(AF) over them, and they will all have one shepherd.(AG) They will follow my laws and be careful to keep my decrees.(AH) 25 They will live in the land I gave to my servant Jacob, the land where your ancestors lived.(AI) They and their children and their children’s children will live there forever,(AJ) and David my servant will be their prince forever.(AK) 26 I will make a covenant of peace(AL) with them; it will be an everlasting covenant.(AM) I will establish them and increase their numbers,(AN) and I will put my sanctuary among them(AO) forever.(AP) 27 My dwelling place(AQ) will be with them; I will be their God, and they will be my people.(AR) 28 Then the nations will know that I the Lord make Israel holy,(AS) when my sanctuary is among them forever.(AT)’”

The Lord’s Great Victory Over the Nations

38 The word of the Lord came to me: 2 “Son of man, set your face against Gog,(AU) of the land of Magog,(AV) the chief prince of[c] Meshek and Tubal;(AW) prophesy against him 3 and say: ‘This is what the Sovereign Lord says: I am against you, Gog, chief prince of[d] Meshek and Tubal.(AX) 4 I will turn you around, put hooks(AY) in your jaws and bring you out with your whole army—your horses, your horsemen fully armed, and a great horde with large and small shields, all of them brandishing their swords.(AZ) 5 Persia, Cush[e](BA) and Put(BB) will be with them, all with shields and helmets, 6 also Gomer(BC) with all its troops, and Beth Togarmah(BD) from the far north(BE) with all its troops—the many nations with you.

7 “‘Get ready; be prepared,(BF) you and all the hordes gathered about you, and take command of them. 8 After many days(BG) you will be called to arms. In future years you will invade a land that has recovered from war, whose people were gathered from many nations(BH) to the mountains of Israel, which had long been desolate. They had been brought out from the nations, and now all of them live in safety.(BI) 9 You and all your troops and the many nations with you will go up, advancing like a storm;(BJ) you will be like a cloud(BK) covering the land.(BL)

10 “‘This is what the Sovereign Lord says: On that day thoughts will come into your mind(BM) and you will devise an evil scheme.(BN) 11 You will say, “I will invade a land of unwalled villages; I will attack a peaceful and unsuspecting people(BO)—all of them living without walls and without gates and bars.(BP) 12 I will plunder and loot and turn my hand against the resettled ruins and the people gathered from the nations, rich in livestock and goods, living at the center of the land.[f]” 13 Sheba(BQ) and Dedan(BR) and the merchants of Tarshish(BS) and all her villages[g] will say to you, “Have you come to plunder? Have you gathered your hordes to loot, to carry off silver and gold, to take away livestock and goods and to seize much plunder?(BT)”’

14 “Therefore, son of man, prophesy and say to Gog: ‘This is what the Sovereign Lord says: In that day, when my people Israel are living in safety,(BU) will you not take notice of it? 15 You will come from your place in the far north,(BV) you and many nations with you, all of them riding on horses, a great horde, a mighty army.(BW) 16 You will advance against my people Israel like a cloud(BX) that covers the land.(BY) In days to come, Gog, I will bring you against my land, so that the nations may know me when I am proved holy(BZ) through you before their eyes.(CA)

17 “‘This is what the Sovereign Lord says: You are the one I spoke of in former days by my servants the prophets of Israel. At that time they prophesied for years that I would bring you against them. 18 This is what will happen in that day: When Gog attacks the land of Israel, my hot anger will be aroused, declares the Sovereign Lord. 19 In my zeal and fiery wrath I declare that at that time there shall be a great earthquake(CB) in the land of Israel.(CC) 20 The fish in the sea, the birds in the sky, the beasts of the field, every creature that moves along the ground, and all the people on the face of the earth will tremble(CD) at my presence. The mountains will be overturned,(CE) the cliffs will crumble(CF) and every wall will fall to the ground.(CG) 21 I will summon a sword(CH) against Gog on all my mountains, declares the Sovereign Lord. Every man’s sword will be against his brother.(CI) 22 I will execute judgment(CJ) on him with plague and bloodshed;(CK) I will pour down torrents of rain, hailstones(CL) and burning sulfur(CM) on him and on his troops and on the many nations with him.(CN) 23 And so I will show my greatness and my holiness, and I will make myself known in the sight of many nations. 39 “Son of man, prophesy against Gog(CP) and say: ‘This is what the Sovereign Lord says: I am against you, Gog, chief prince of[h] Meshek(CQ) and Tubal.(CR) 2 I will turn you around and drag you along. I will bring you from the far north(CS) and send you against the mountains of Israel.(CT) 3 Then I will strike your bow(CU) from your left hand and make your arrows(CV) drop from your right hand. 4 On the mountains of Israel you will fall, you and all your troops and the nations with you. I will give you as food to all kinds of carrion birds(CW) and to the wild animals.(CX) 5 You will fall in the open field, for I have spoken, declares the Sovereign Lord.(CY) 6 I will send fire(CZ) on Magog(DA) and on those who live in safety in the coastlands,(DB) and they will know(DC) that I am the Lord.

7 “‘I will make known my holy name among my people Israel. I will no longer let my holy name be profaned,(DD) and the nations will know(DE) that I the Lord am the Holy One in Israel.(DF) 8 It is coming! It will surely take place, declares the Sovereign Lord. This is the day(DG) I have spoken of.

9 “‘Then those who live in the towns of Israel will go out and use the weapons for fuel and burn them up—the small and large shields, the bows and arrows,(DH) the war clubs and spears. For seven years they will use them for fuel.(DI) 10 They will not need to gather wood from the fields or cut it from the forests, because they will use the weapons for fuel. And they will plunder(DJ) those who plundered them and loot those who looted them, declares the Sovereign Lord.(DK)

11 “‘On that day I will give Gog a burial place in Israel, in the valley of those who travel east of the Sea. It will block the way of travelers, because Gog and all his hordes will be buried(DL) there. So it will be called the Valley of Hamon Gog.[i](DM)

12 “‘For seven months the Israelites will be burying them in order to cleanse the land.(DN) 13 All the people of the land will bury them, and the day I display my glory(DO) will be a memorable day for them, declares the Sovereign Lord. 14 People will be continually employed in cleansing the land. They will spread out across the land and, along with others, they will bury any bodies that are lying on the ground.

“‘After the seven months they will carry out a more detailed search. 15 As they go through the land, anyone who sees a human bone will leave a marker beside it until the gravediggers bury it in the Valley of Hamon Gog, 16 near a town called Hamonah.[j] And so they will cleanse the land.’

17 “Son of man, this is what the Sovereign Lord says: Call out to every kind of bird(DP) and all the wild animals: ‘Assemble and come together from all around to the sacrifice I am preparing for you, the great sacrifice on the mountains of Israel. There you will eat flesh and drink blood.(DQ) 18 You will eat the flesh of mighty men and drink the blood of the princes of the earth as if they were rams and lambs, goats and bulls—all of them fattened animals from Bashan.(DR) 19 At the sacrifice(DS) I am preparing for you, you will eat fat till you are glutted and drink blood till you are drunk. 20 At my table you will eat your fill of horses and riders, mighty men and soldiers of every kind,’ declares the Sovereign Lord.(DT)

21 “I will display my glory among the nations, and all the nations will see the punishment I inflict and the hand I lay on them.(DU) 22 From that day forward the people of Israel will know that I am the Lord their God. 23 And the nations will know that the people of Israel went into exile for their sin, because they were unfaithful to me. So I hid my face from them and handed them over to their enemies, and they all fell by the sword.(DV) 24 I dealt with them according to their uncleanness and their offenses, and I hid my face from them.(DW)

25 “Therefore this is what the Sovereign Lord says: I will now restore the fortunes of Jacob[k](DX) and will have compassion(DY) on all the people of Israel, and I will be zealous for my holy name.(DZ) 26 They will forget their shame and all the unfaithfulness they showed toward me when they lived in safety(EA) in their land with no one to make them afraid.(EB) 27 When I have brought them back from the nations and have gathered them from the countries of their enemies, I will be proved holy through them in the sight of many nations.(EC) 28 Then they will know that I am the Lord their God, for though I sent them into exile among the nations, I will gather them(ED) to their own land, not leaving any behind.(EE) 29 I will no longer hide my face(EF) from them, for I will pour out my Spirit(EG) on the people of Israel, declares the Sovereign Lord.(EH)”

The Temple Area Restored

40 In the twenty-fifth year of our exile, at the beginning of the year, on the tenth of the month, in the fourteenth year after the fall of the city(EI)—on that very day the hand of the Lord was on me(EJ) and he took me there. 2 In visions(EK) of God he took me to the land of Israel and set me on a very high mountain,(EL) on whose south side were some buildings that looked like a city. 3 He took me there, and I saw a man whose appearance was like bronze;(EM) he was standing in the gateway with a linen cord and a measuring rod(EN) in his hand. 4 The man said to me, “Son of man, look carefully and listen closely and pay attention to everything I am going to show you,(EO) for that is why you have been brought here. Tell(EP) the people of Israel everything you see.(EQ)”

The East Gate to the Outer Court

5 I saw a wall completely surrounding the temple area. The length of the measuring rod in the man’s hand was six long cubits,[l] each of which was a cubit and a handbreadth. He measured(ER) the wall; it was one measuring rod thick and one rod high.

6 Then he went to the east gate.(ES) He climbed its steps and measured the threshold of the gate; it was one rod deep. 7 The alcoves(ET) for the guards were one rod long and one rod wide, and the projecting walls between the alcoves were five cubits[m] thick. And the threshold of the gate next to the portico facing the temple was one rod deep.

8 Then he measured the portico of the gateway; 9 it[n] was eight cubits[o] deep and its jambs were two cubits[p] thick. The portico of the gateway faced the temple.

10 Inside the east gate were three alcoves on each side; the three had the same measurements, and the faces of the projecting walls on each side had the same measurements. 11 Then he measured the width of the entrance of the gateway; it was ten cubits and its length was thirteen cubits.[q] 12 In front of each alcove was a wall one cubit high, and the alcoves were six cubits square. 13 Then he measured the gateway from the top of the rear wall of one alcove to the top of the opposite one; the distance was twenty-five cubits[r] from one parapet opening to the opposite one. 14 He measured along the faces of the projecting walls all around the inside of the gateway—sixty cubits.[s] The measurement was up to the portico[t] facing the courtyard.[u](EU) 15 The distance from the entrance of the gateway to the far end of its portico was fifty cubits.[v] 16 The alcoves and the projecting walls inside the gateway were surmounted by narrow parapet openings all around, as was the portico; the openings all around faced inward. The faces of the projecting walls were decorated with palm trees.(EV)

The Outer Court

17 Then he brought me into the outer court.(EW) There I saw some rooms and a pavement that had been constructed all around the court; there were thirty rooms(EX) along the pavement.(EY) 18 It abutted the sides of the gateways and was as wide as they were long; this was the lower pavement. 19 Then he measured the distance from the inside of the lower gateway to the outside of the inner court;(EZ) it was a hundred cubits[w](FA) on the east side as well as on the north.

The North Gate

20 Then he measured the length and width of the north gate, leading into the outer court. 21 Its alcoves(FB)—three on each side—its projecting walls and its portico(FC) had the same measurements as those of the first gateway. It was fifty cubits long and twenty-five cubits wide. 22 Its openings, its portico(FD) and its palm tree decorations had the same measurements as those of the gate facing east. Seven steps led up to it, with its portico opposite them.(FE) 23 There was a gate to the inner court facing the north gate, just as there was on the east. He measured from one gate to the opposite one; it was a hundred cubits.(FF)

The South Gate

24 Then he led me to the south side and I saw the south gate. He measured its jambs and its portico, and they had the same measurements(FG) as the others. 25 The gateway and its portico had narrow openings all around, like the openings of the others. It was fifty cubits long and twenty-five cubits wide.(FH) 26 Seven steps led up to it, with its portico opposite them; it had palm tree decorations on the faces of the projecting walls on each side.(FI) 27 The inner court(FJ) also had a gate facing south, and he measured from this gate to the outer gate on the south side; it was a hundred cubits.(FK)

The Gates to the Inner Court

28 Then he brought me into the inner court through the south gate, and he measured the south gate; it had the same measurements(FL) as the others. 29 Its alcoves,(FM) its projecting walls and its portico had the same measurements as the others. The gateway and its portico had openings all around. It was fifty cubits long and twenty-five cubits wide.(FN) 30 (The porticoes(FO) of the gateways around the inner court were twenty-five cubits wide and five cubits deep.) 31 Its portico(FP) faced the outer court; palm trees decorated its jambs, and eight steps led up to it.(FQ)

32 Then he brought me to the inner court on the east side, and he measured the gateway; it had the same measurements(FR) as the others. 33 Its alcoves,(FS) its projecting walls and its portico had the same measurements as the others. The gateway and its portico had openings all around. It was fifty cubits long and twenty-five cubits wide. 34 Its portico(FT) faced the outer court; palm trees decorated the jambs on either side, and eight steps led up to it.

35 Then he brought me to the north gate(FU) and measured it. It had the same measurements(FV) as the others, 36 as did its alcoves,(FW) its projecting walls and its portico, and it had openings all around. It was fifty cubits long and twenty-five cubits wide. 37 Its portico[x](FX) faced the outer court; palm trees decorated the jambs on either side, and eight steps led up to it.(FY)

The Rooms for Preparing Sacrifices

38 A room with a doorway was by the portico in each of the inner gateways, where the burnt offerings(FZ) were washed. 39 In the portico of the gateway were two tables on each side, on which the burnt offerings,(GA) sin offerings[y](GB) and guilt offerings(GC) were slaughtered.(GD) 40 By the outside wall of the portico of the gateway, near the steps at the entrance of the north gateway were two tables, and on the other side of the steps were two tables. 41 So there were four tables on one side of the gateway and four on the other—eight tables in all—on which the sacrifices were slaughtered. 42 There were also four tables of dressed stone(GE) for the burnt offerings, each a cubit and a half long, a cubit and a half wide and a cubit high.[z] On them were placed the utensils for slaughtering the burnt offerings and the other sacrifices.(GF) 43 And double-pronged hooks, each a handbreadth[aa] long, were attached to the wall all around. The tables were for the flesh of the offerings.

The Rooms for the Priests

44 Outside the inner gate, within the inner court, were two rooms, one[ab] at the side of the north gate and facing south, and another at the side of the south[ac] gate and facing north. 45 He said to me, “The room facing south is for the priests who guard the temple,(GG) 46 and the room facing north(GH) is for the priests who guard the altar.(GI) These are the sons of Zadok,(GJ) who are the only Levites who may draw near to the Lord to minister before him.(GK)”

47 Then he measured the court: It was square—a hundred cubits long and a hundred cubits wide. And the altar was in front of the temple.(GL)

The New Temple

48 He brought me to the portico of the temple(GM) and measured the jambs of the portico; they were five cubits wide on either side. The width of the entrance was fourteen cubits[ad] and its projecting walls were[ae] three cubits[af] wide on either side. 49 The portico(GN) was twenty cubits[ag] wide, and twelve[ah] cubits[ai] from front to back. It was reached by a flight of stairs,[aj] and there were pillars(GO) on each side of the jambs.

41 Then the man brought me to the main hall(GP) and measured the jambs; the width of the jambs was six cubits[ak] on each side.[al] 2 The entrance was ten cubits[am] wide, and the projecting walls on each side of it were five cubits[an] wide. He also measured the main hall; it was forty cubits long and twenty cubits wide.[ao](GQ)

3 Then he went into the inner sanctuary and measured the jambs of the entrance; each was two cubits[ap] wide. The entrance was six cubits wide, and the projecting walls on each side of it were seven cubits[aq] wide. 4 And he measured the length of the inner sanctuary; it was twenty cubits, and its width was twenty cubits across the end of the main hall.(GR) He said to me, “This is the Most Holy Place.(GS)”

5 Then he measured the wall of the temple; it was six cubits thick, and each side room around the temple was four cubits[ar] wide. 6 The side rooms were on three levels, one above another, thirty(GT) on each level. There were ledges all around the wall of the temple to serve as supports for the side rooms, so that the supports were not inserted into the wall of the temple.(GU) 7 The side rooms all around the temple were wider at each successive level. The structure surrounding the temple was built in ascending stages, so that the rooms widened as one went upward. A stairway(GV) went up from the lowest floor to the top floor through the middle floor.

8 I saw that the temple had a raised base all around it, forming the foundation of the side rooms. It was the length of the rod, six long cubits. 9 The outer wall of the side rooms was five cubits thick. The open area between the side rooms of the temple 10 and the priests’ rooms was twenty cubits wide all around the temple. 11 There were entrances to the side rooms from the open area, one on the north and another on the south; and the base adjoining the open area was five cubits wide all around.

12 The building facing the temple courtyard on the west side was seventy cubits[as] wide. The wall of the building was five cubits thick all around, and its length was ninety cubits.[at]

13 Then he measured the temple; it was a hundred cubits[au] long, and the temple courtyard and the building with its walls were also a hundred cubits long. 14 The width of the temple courtyard on the east, including the front of the temple, was a hundred cubits.(GW)

15 Then he measured the length of the building facing the courtyard at the rear of the temple, including its galleries(GX) on each side; it was a hundred cubits.

The main hall, the inner sanctuary and the portico facing the court, 16 as well as the thresholds and the narrow windows(GY) and galleries around the three of them—everything beyond and including the threshold was covered with wood. The floor, the wall up to the windows, and the windows were covered.(GZ) 17 In the space above the outside of the entrance to the inner sanctuary and on the walls at regular intervals all around the inner and outer sanctuary 18 were carved(HA) cherubim(HB) and palm trees.(HC) Palm trees alternated with cherubim. Each cherub had two faces:(HD) 19 the face of a human being toward the palm tree on one side and the face of a lion toward the palm tree on the other. They were carved all around the whole temple.(HE) 20 From the floor to the area above the entrance, cherubim and palm trees were carved on the wall of the main hall.

21 The main hall(HF) had a rectangular doorframe, and the one at the front of the Most Holy Place was similar. 22 There was a wooden altar(HG) three cubits[av] high and two cubits square[aw]; its corners, its base[ax] and its sides were of wood. The man said to me, “This is the table(HH) that is before the Lord.” 23 Both the main hall(HI) and the Most Holy Place had double doors.(HJ) 24 Each door had two leaves—two hinged leaves(HK) for each door. 25 And on the doors of the main hall were carved cherubim and palm trees like those carved on the walls, and there was a wooden overhang on the front of the portico. 26 On the sidewalls of the portico were narrow windows with palm trees carved on each side. The side rooms of the temple also had overhangs.(HL)

The Rooms for the Priests

42 Then the man led me northward into the outer court and brought me to the rooms(HM) opposite the temple courtyard(HN) and opposite the outer wall on the north side.(HO) 2 The building whose door faced north was a hundred cubits long and fifty cubits wide.[ay] 3 Both in the section twenty cubits[az] from the inner court and in the section opposite the pavement of the outer court, gallery(HP) faced gallery at the three levels.(HQ) 4 In front of the rooms was an inner passageway ten cubits wide and a hundred cubits[ba] long.[bb] Their doors were on the north.(HR) 5 Now the upper rooms were narrower, for the galleries took more space from them than from the rooms on the lower and middle floors of the building. 6 The rooms on the top floor had no pillars, as the courts had; so they were smaller in floor space than those on the lower and middle floors. 7 There was an outer wall parallel to the rooms and the outer court; it extended in front of the rooms for fifty cubits. 8 While the row of rooms on the side next to the outer court was fifty cubits long, the row on the side nearest the sanctuary was a hundred cubits long. 9 The lower rooms had an entrance(HS) on the east side as one enters them from the outer court.

10 On the south side[bc] along the length of the wall of the outer court, adjoining the temple courtyard(HT) and opposite the outer wall, were rooms(HU) 11 with a passageway in front of them. These were like the rooms on the north; they had the same length and width, with similar exits and dimensions. Similar to the doorways on the north 12 were the doorways of the rooms on the south. There was a doorway at the beginning of the passageway that was parallel to the corresponding wall extending eastward, by which one enters the rooms.

13 Then he said to me, “The north(HV) and south rooms(HW) facing the temple courtyard(HX) are the priests’ rooms, where the priests who approach the Lord will eat the most holy offerings. There they will put the most holy offerings—the grain offerings,(HY) the sin offerings[bd](HZ) and the guilt offerings(IA)—for the place is holy.(IB) 14 Once the priests enter the holy precincts, they are not to go into the outer court until they leave behind the garments(IC) in which they minister, for these are holy. They are to put on other clothes before they go near the places that are for the people.(ID)”

15 When he had finished measuring what was inside the temple area, he led me out by the east gate(IE) and measured the area all around: 16 He measured the east side with the measuring rod; it was five hundred cubits.[be][bf] 17 He measured the north side; it was five hundred cubits[bg] by the measuring rod. 18 He measured the south side; it was five hundred cubits by the measuring rod. 19 Then he turned to the west side and measured; it was five hundred cubits by the measuring rod. 20 So he measured(IF) the area(IG) on all four sides. It had a wall around it,(IH) five hundred cubits long and five hundred cubits wide,(II) to separate the holy from the common.(IJ)
