Making Bricks Without Straw

5 Afterward Moses and Aaron went and said to Pharaoh, “Thus says the Lord, the God of Israel, ‘Let my people go, that they may hold ^(A)a feast to me in the wilderness.’”

⁹ Moses said, “We will go with our young and our old. We will go with our sons and daughters and with our flocks and herds, for ^(A)we must hold a feast to the Lord.”

²⁹ And now, Lord, ^(A)look upon their threats and grant to your servants to continue to speak your word with all ^(B)boldness,

⁸ Let us therefore celebrate the festival, ^(A)not with the old leaven, ^(B)the leaven of malice and evil, but with the unleavened bread of sincerity and truth.

²⁸ And ^(A)do not fear those who kill the body but cannot kill the soul. Rather fear him ^(B)who can destroy both soul and body in hell.^[a]

^18 (A)and you will be dragged before governors and kings for my sake, ^(B)to bear witness before them and the Gentiles.

³ So Jonah arose and went to Nineveh, according to the word of the Lord. Now ^(A)Nineveh was an exceedingly great city,^[a] three days' journey in breadth.^{[b] 4} Jonah began to go into the city, going a day's journey. And he called out, “Yet forty days, and Nineveh shall be overthrown!”

⁶ And you, son of man, ^(A)be not afraid of them, nor be afraid of their words, ^(B)though briers and thorns are with you and you sit on ^(C)scorpions.^[a] Be not afraid of their words, nor be dismayed at their looks, for they are a rebellious house.
