³⁵ The people of Israel ^(A)ate the manna forty years, till they came to a habitable land. They ate the manna till ^(B)they came to the border of the land of Canaan.

^20 (A)You gave your good Spirit to instruct them ^(B)and did not withhold your manna from their mouth and gave them water for their thirst. ^21 (C)Forty years you sustained them in the wilderness, and they lacked nothing. Their clothes did not wear out and their feet did not swell.

¹² And ^(A)the manna ceased the day after they ate of the produce of the land. And there was no longer manna for the people of Israel, but they ate of the fruit of the land of Canaan that year.

² And you shall remember the whole way that the Lord your God has led you ^(A)these forty years in the wilderness, that he might humble you, ^(B)testing you ^(C)to know what was in your heart, ^(D)whether you would keep his commandments or not. ³ And he humbled you and ^(E)let you hunger and ^(F)fed you with manna, which you did not know, nor did your fathers know, that he might make you know that ^(G)man does not live by bread alone, but man lives by every word^[a] that comes from the mouth of the Lord.

³⁰ So they said to him, ^(A)“Then what sign do you do, that we may see and believe you? What work do you perform? ^31 (B)Our fathers ate the manna in the wilderness; as it is written, ^(C)‘He gave them bread from heaven to eat.’” ³² Jesus then said to them, “Truly, truly, I say to you, it was not Moses who gave you the bread from heaven, but my Father gives you the true bread from heaven. ³³ For the bread of God is ^(D)he who comes down from heaven and gives life to the world.” ³⁴ They said to him, ^(E)“Sir, give us this bread always.”

³⁵ Jesus said to them, ^(F)“I am the bread of life; ^(G)whoever comes to me shall not hunger, and whoever believes in me shall never thirst. ³⁶ But I said to you that you have seen me and yet do not believe. ^37 (H)All that ^(I)the Father gives me will come to me, and ^(J)whoever comes to me I will never cast out. ³⁸ For ^(K)I have come down from heaven, not to do ^(L)my own will but ^(M)the will of him ^(N)who sent me. ³⁹ And ^(O)this is the will of him who sent me, ^(P)that I should lose nothing of ^(Q)all that he has given me, but ^(R)raise it up on the last day. ⁴⁰ For this is the will of my Father, that everyone who ^(S)looks on the Son and ^(T)believes in him ^(U)should have eternal life, and I will raise him up on the last day.”

⁴¹ So the Jews grumbled about him, because he said, ^(V)“I am the bread that came down from heaven.” ⁴² They said, ^(W)“Is not this Jesus, ^(X)the son of Joseph, whose father and mother ^(Y)we know? How does he now say, ‘I have come down from heaven’?” ⁴³ Jesus answered them, “Do not grumble among yourselves. ⁴⁴ No one can come to me unless the Father who sent me ^(Z)draws him. And ^(AA)I will raise him up on the last day. ⁴⁵ It is written in the Prophets, ^(AB)‘And they will all be ^(AC)taught by God.’ ^(AD)Everyone who has heard and learned from the Father comes to me— ^46 (AE)not that anyone has seen the Father except ^(AF)he who is from God; he ^(AG)has seen the Father. ⁴⁷ Truly, truly, I say to you, ^(AH)whoever believes has eternal life. ^48 (AI)I am the bread of life. ^49 (AJ)Your fathers ate the manna in the wilderness, and ^(AK)they died. ^50 (AL)This is the bread that comes down from heaven, so that one may eat of it ^(AM)and not die. ⁵¹ I am the living bread ^(AN)that came down from heaven. If anyone eats of this bread, he will live forever. And the bread that I will give ^(AO)for the life of the world is ^(AP)my flesh.”

⁵² The Jews then ^(AQ)disputed among themselves, saying, ^(AR)“How can this man give us his flesh to eat?” ⁵³ So Jesus said to them, “Truly, truly, I say to you, unless you eat the flesh of ^(AS)the Son of Man and drink his blood, you ^(AT)have no life in you. ⁵⁴ Whoever feeds on my flesh and drinks my blood ^(AU)has eternal life, and ^(AV)I will raise him up on the last day. ⁵⁵ For my flesh is true food, and my blood is true drink. ⁵⁶ Whoever feeds on my flesh and drinks my blood ^(AW)abides in me, and I in him. ⁵⁷ As ^(AX)the living Father ^(AY)sent me, and ^(AZ)I live because of the Father, so whoever feeds on me, he also will live because of me. ^58 (BA)This is the bread that came down from heaven, not like the bread^[a] the fathers ate, and died. Whoever feeds on this bread will live forever.”

⁸ See, I have set the land before you. Go in and take possession of the land that the Lord swore to your fathers, ^(A)to Abraham, to Isaac, and to Jacob, to give to them and to their offspring after them.’

^15 (A)You gave them bread from heaven for their hunger and ^(B)brought water for them out of the rock for their thirst, and you ^(C)told them to go in to possess the land that you had sworn to give them.

The Death of Moses

34 Then Moses went up from the plains of Moab ^(A)to Mount Nebo, to the top of Pisgah, which is opposite Jericho. And the Lord showed him all the land, Gilead as far as Dan, ² all Naphtali, the land of Ephraim and Manasseh, all the land of Judah ^(B)as far as the western sea, ^3 (C)the Negeb, and ^(D)the Plain, that is, the Valley of Jericho ^(E)the city of palm trees, as far as ^(F)Zoar. ⁴ And the Lord said to him, ^(G)“This is the land of which I swore to Abraham, to Isaac, and to Jacob, ‘I will give it to your offspring.’ ^(H)I have let you see it with your eyes, but ^(I)you shall not go over there.”
