^14 (A)And when in time to come your son asks you, ‘What does this mean?’ you shall say to him, ^(B)‘By a strong hand the Lord brought us out of Egypt, from the house of ^(C)slavery.

⁶ that this may be a sign among you. ^(A)When your children ask in time to come, ‘What do those stones mean to you?’

The Feast of Unleavened Bread

³ Then Moses said to the people, ^(A)“Remember this day in which you came out from Egypt, out of the house of slavery, ^(B)for by a strong hand the Lord brought you out from this place. ^(C)No leavened bread shall be eaten.

^20 (A)“When your son asks you in time to come, ‘What is the meaning of the testimonies and the statutes and the rules that the Lord our God has commanded you?’ ²¹ then you shall say to your son, ^(B)‘We were Pharaoh's slaves in Egypt. And the Lord brought us out of Egypt with a mighty hand. ²² And ^(C)the Lord showed signs and wonders, great and grievous, against Egypt and against Pharaoh and all his household, before our eyes. ²³ And he brought us out from there, that he might bring us in and give us the land that he swore to give to our fathers. ²⁴ And the Lord commanded us to do all these statutes, ^(D)to fear the Lord our God, ^(E)for our good always, that ^(F)he might preserve us alive, as we are this day.

²⁶ And ^(A)when your children say to you, ‘What do you mean by this service?’ ²⁷ you shall say, ^(B)‘It is the sacrifice of the Lord's Passover, for he passed over the houses of the people of Israel in Egypt, when he struck the Egyptians but spared our houses.’” And the people ^(C)bowed their heads and worshiped.

²⁴ No, but we did it from fear that ^(A)in time to come your children might say to our children, ‘What have you to do with the Lord, the God of Israel?

²¹ And he said to the people of Israel, ^(A)“When your children ask their fathers in times to come, ‘What do these stones mean?’ ²² then you shall let your children know, ^(B)‘Israel passed over this Jordan on dry ground.’ ²³ For the Lord your God dried up the waters of the Jordan for you until you passed over, as the Lord your God did to the Red Sea, ^(C)which he dried up for us until we passed over, ^24 (D)so that all the peoples of the earth may know that the hand of the Lord is ^(E)mighty, that you may ^(F)fear the Lord your God forever.”^[a]

⁹ And it shall ^(A)be to you as a sign on your hand and as ^(B)a memorial ^(C)between your eyes, that the law of the Lord may be in your mouth. For with a strong hand the Lord has brought you out of Egypt.
