Grace to you and peace from God our Father and the Lord Jesus Christ.

Spiritual Blessings in Christ

Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, who has blessed us in Christ with every spiritual blessing in the heavenly places, just as he chose us in Christ[a] before the foundation of the world to be holy and blameless before him in love. He destined us for adoption as his children through Jesus Christ, according to the good pleasure of his will, to the praise of his glorious grace that he freely bestowed on us in the Beloved. In him we have redemption through his blood, the forgiveness of our trespasses, according to the riches of his grace that he lavished on us. With all wisdom and insight he has made known to us the mystery of his will, according to his good pleasure that he set forth in Christ, 10 as a plan for the fullness of time, to gather up all things in him, things in heaven and things on earth. 11 In Christ we have also obtained an inheritance,[b] having been destined according to the purpose of him who accomplishes all things according to his counsel and will, 12 so that we, who were the first to set our hope on Christ, might live for the praise of his glory. 13 In him you also, when you had heard the word of truth, the gospel of your salvation, and had believed in him, were marked with the seal of the promised Holy Spirit; 14 this[c] is the pledge of our inheritance toward redemption as God’s own people, to the praise of his glory.

Paul’s Prayer

15 I have heard of your faith in the Lord Jesus and your love[d] toward all the saints, and for this reason 16 I do not cease to give thanks for you as I remember you in my prayers. 17 I pray that the God of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of glory, may give you a spirit of wisdom and revelation as you come to know him, 18 so that, with the eyes of your heart enlightened, you may know what is the hope to which he has called you, what are the riches of his glorious inheritance among the saints, 19 and what is the immeasurable greatness of his power for us who believe, according to the working of his great power. 20 God[e] put this power to work in Christ when he raised him from the dead and seated him at his right hand in the heavenly places, 21 far above all rule and authority and power and dominion, and above every name that is named, not only in this age but also in the age to come. 22 And he has put all things under his feet and has made him the head over all things for the church, 23 which is his body, the fullness of him who fills all in all.

Praise for Spiritual Blessings in Christ

Praise be to the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ,(B) who has blessed us in the heavenly realms(C) with every spiritual blessing in Christ. For he chose us(D) in him before the creation of the world(E) to be holy and blameless(F) in his sight. In love(G) he[a] predestined(H) us for adoption to sonship[b](I) through Jesus Christ, in accordance with his pleasure(J) and will— to the praise of his glorious grace,(K) which he has freely given us in the One he loves.(L) In him we have redemption(M) through his blood,(N) the forgiveness of sins, in accordance with the riches(O) of God’s grace that he lavished on us. With all wisdom and understanding, he[c] made known to us the mystery(P) of his will according to his good pleasure, which he purposed(Q) in Christ, 10 to be put into effect when the times reach their fulfillment(R)—to bring unity to all things in heaven and on earth under Christ.(S)

11 In him we were also chosen,[d] having been predestined(T) according to the plan of him who works out everything in conformity with the purpose(U) of his will, 12 in order that we, who were the first to put our hope in Christ, might be for the praise of his glory.(V) 13 And you also were included in Christ(W) when you heard the message of truth,(X) the gospel of your salvation. When you believed, you were marked in him with a seal,(Y) the promised Holy Spirit,(Z) 14 who is a deposit guaranteeing our inheritance(AA) until the redemption(AB) of those who are God’s possession—to the praise of his glory.(AC)

Thanksgiving and Prayer

15 For this reason, ever since I heard about your faith in the Lord Jesus(AD) and your love for all God’s people,(AE) 16 I have not stopped giving thanks for you,(AF) remembering you in my prayers.(AG) 17 I keep asking that the God of our Lord Jesus Christ, the glorious Father,(AH) may give you the Spirit[e] of wisdom(AI) and revelation, so that you may know him better. 18 I pray that the eyes of your heart may be enlightened(AJ) in order that you may know the hope to which he has called(AK) you, the riches(AL) of his glorious inheritance(AM) in his holy people,(AN) 19 and his incomparably great power for us who believe. That power(AO) is the same as the mighty strength(AP) 20 he exerted when he raised Christ from the dead(AQ) and seated him at his right hand(AR) in the heavenly realms,(AS) 21 far above all rule and authority, power and dominion,(AT) and every name(AU) that is invoked, not only in the present age but also in the one to come.(AV) 22 And God placed all things under his feet(AW) and appointed him to be head(AX) over everything for the church, 23 which is his body,(AY) the fullness of him(AZ) who fills everything in every way.(BA)
