Morte di Mosè

34 (A)Poi Mosè salì dalle pianure di Moab sul monte Nebo, in vetta al Pisga, che è di fronte a Gerico. E il Signore gli fece vedere tutto il paese: Galaad fino a Dan, tutto Neftali, il paese di Efraim e di Manasse, tutto il paese di Giuda fino al mare occidentale[a], la regione meridionale, il bacino del Giordano e la valle di Gerico, città delle palme, fino a Soar. Il Signore gli disse: «Questo è il paese riguardo al quale io feci ad Abraamo, a Isacco e a Giacobbe, questo giuramento: “Io lo darò ai tuoi discendenti”. Te l’ho fatto vedere con i tuoi occhi, ma tu non vi entrerai». Mosè, servo del Signore, morì là nel paese di Moab, come il Signore aveva comandato. E il Signore lo seppellì nella valle, nel paese di Moab, di fronte a Bet-Peor; e nessuno fino a oggi ha mai saputo dov’è la sua tomba. Mosè aveva centovent’anni quando morì; la vista non gli si era indebolita e il vigore non gli era venuto meno. I figli d’Israele lo piansero nelle pianure di Moab per trenta giorni; si compirono così i giorni del pianto per il lutto per Mosè.

Giosuè, figlio di Nun, fu pieno dello Spirito di sapienza, perché Mosè aveva imposto le mani sul suo capo; e i figli d’Israele gli ubbidirono e fecero quello che il Signore aveva comandato a Mosè.

10 Non c’è mai più stato in Israele un profeta simile a Mosè, con il quale il Signore abbia trattato[b] faccia a faccia. 11 Nessuno è stato simile a lui in tutti quei segni e miracoli che il Signore lo mandò a fare nel paese d’Egitto contro il faraone, contro tutti i suoi servi e contro tutto il suo paese; 12 né simile a lui in quegli atti potenti e in tutte quelle grandi cose tremende che Mosè fece davanti agli occhi di tutto Israele.

The Death of Moses

34 Then Moses climbed Mount Nebo(A) from the plains of Moab to the top of Pisgah,(B) across from Jericho.(C) There the Lord showed(D) him the whole land—from Gilead to Dan,(E) all of Naphtali, the territory of Ephraim and Manasseh, all the land of Judah as far as the Mediterranean Sea,(F) the Negev(G) and the whole region from the Valley of Jericho, the City of Palms,(H) as far as Zoar.(I) Then the Lord said to him, “This is the land I promised on oath(J) to Abraham, Isaac and Jacob(K) when I said, ‘I will give it(L) to your descendants.’ I have let you see it with your eyes, but you will not cross(M) over into it.”

And Moses the servant of the Lord(N) died(O) there in Moab, as the Lord had said. He buried him[a] in Moab, in the valley opposite Beth Peor,(P) but to this day no one knows where his grave is.(Q) Moses was a hundred and twenty years old(R) when he died, yet his eyes were not weak(S) nor his strength gone.(T) The Israelites grieved for Moses in the plains of Moab(U) thirty days,(V) until the time of weeping and mourning(W) was over.

Now Joshua son of Nun was filled with the spirit[b] of wisdom(X) because Moses had laid his hands on him.(Y) So the Israelites listened to him and did what the Lord had commanded Moses.

10 Since then, no prophet(Z) has risen in Israel like Moses,(AA) whom the Lord knew face to face,(AB) 11 who did all those signs and wonders(AC) the Lord sent him to do in Egypt—to Pharaoh and to all his officials(AD) and to his whole land. 12 For no one has(AE) ever shown the mighty power or performed the awesome deeds(AF) that Moses did in the sight of all Israel.

The Death of Moses

34 Then Moses went up from the plains of Moab (A)to Mount Nebo, to the top of Pisgah, which is opposite Jericho. And the Lord showed him all the land, Gilead as far as Dan, all Naphtali, the land of Ephraim and Manasseh, all the land of Judah (B)as far as the western sea, (C)the Negeb, and (D)the Plain, that is, the Valley of Jericho (E)the city of palm trees, as far as (F)Zoar. And the Lord said to him, (G)“This is the land of which I swore to Abraham, to Isaac, and to Jacob, ‘I will give it to your offspring.’ (H)I have let you see it with your eyes, but (I)you shall not go over there.” So Moses the servant of the Lord died there in the land of Moab, according to the word of the Lord, and he buried him in the valley in the land of Moab opposite Beth-peor; but (J)no one knows the place of his burial to this day. (K)Moses was 120 years old when he died. (L)His eye was undimmed, and his vigor unabated. And the people of Israel (M)wept for Moses in the plains of Moab thirty days. Then the days of weeping and mourning for Moses were ended.

And Joshua the son of Nun was full of (N)the spirit of wisdom, for (O)Moses had laid his hands on him. So (P)the people of Israel obeyed him and did as the Lord had commanded Moses. 10 And there has not (Q)arisen a prophet since in Israel like Moses, (R)whom the Lord knew face to face, 11 none like him for all (S)the signs and the wonders that the Lord sent him to do in the land of Egypt, to Pharaoh and to all his servants and to all his land, 12 and for all the mighty power and all the great deeds of terror that Moses did in the sight of all Israel.
