⁵² Therefore, you will see the land only from a distance;^(A) you will not enter^(B) the land I am giving to the people of Israel.”

The Death of Moses

34 Then Moses climbed Mount Nebo^(A) from the plains of Moab to the top of Pisgah,^(B) across from Jericho.^(C) There the Lord showed^(D) him the whole land—from Gilead to Dan,^{(E) 2} all of Naphtali, the territory of Ephraim and Manasseh, all the land of Judah as far as the Mediterranean Sea,^{(F) 3} the Negev^(G) and the whole region from the Valley of Jericho, the City of Palms,^(H) as far as Zoar.^{(I) 4} Then the Lord said to him, “This is the land I promised on oath^(J) to Abraham, Isaac and Jacob^(K) when I said, ‘I will give it^(L) to your descendants.’ I have let you see it with your eyes, but you will not cross^(M) over into it.”

³⁹ These were all commended^(A) for their faith, yet none of them received what had been promised,^(B)

¹³ All these people were still living by faith when they died. They did not receive the things promised;^(A) they only saw them and welcomed them from a distance,^(B) admitting that they were foreigners and strangers on earth.^(C)

⁴⁹ “Go up into the Abarim^(A) Range to Mount Nebo^(B) in Moab, across from Jericho,^(C) and view Canaan,^(D) the land I am giving the Israelites as their own possession.

²⁷ Go up to the top of Pisgah^(A) and look west and north and south and east.^(B) Look at the land with your own eyes, since you are not going to cross^(C) this Jordan.^(D)

³⁷ Because of you the Lord became angry^(A) with me also and said, “You shall not enter^(B) it, either.

Joshua to Succeed Moses

¹² Then the Lord said to Moses, “Go up this mountain^(A) in the Abarim Range^(B) and see the land^(C) I have given the Israelites.^(D)
