¹⁷ And he ^(A)shall not acquire many wives for himself, lest his heart turn away, ^(B)nor shall he acquire for himself excessive silver and gold.

^26 (A)Did not Solomon king of Israel sin on account of such women? ^(B)Among the many nations there was no king like him, and he was ^(C)beloved by his God, and God made him king over all Israel. Nevertheless, foreign women made even him to sin.

⁵ and said, ^(A)‘Therefore a man shall leave his father and his mother and hold fast to his wife, and ^(B)the two shall become one flesh’?

Solomon Turns from the Lord

11 Now ^(A)King Solomon loved many foreign women, along with the daughter of Pharaoh: Moabite, Ammonite, Edomite, Sidonian, and Hittite women, ² from the nations concerning which the Lord had said to the people of Israel, ^(B)“You shall not enter into marriage with them, neither shall they with you, for surely they will turn away your heart after their gods.” Solomon clung to these in love. ³ He had 700 wives, who were princesses, and 300 concubines. And his wives turned away his heart. ⁴ For when Solomon was old his wives turned away his heart after other gods, and ^(C)his heart was not wholly true to the Lord his God, ^(D)as was the heart of David his father.

^24 (A)Therefore a man shall leave his father and his mother and hold fast to his wife, and they shall become one flesh.

^15 (A)Did he not make them one, with a portion of the Spirit in their union?^[a] And what was the one God^[b] seeking?^{[c] (B)}Godly offspring. So guard yourselves^[d] in your spirit, and let none of you be ^(C)faithless to the wife of your youth.

¹⁷ As for the rich in ^(A)this present age, charge them ^(B)not to be haughty, nor ^(C)to set their hopes on ^(D)the uncertainty of riches, but on God, ^(E)who richly provides us with everything to enjoy.
