^47 (A)Because you did not serve the Lord your God with joyfulness and gladness of heart, because of the abundance of all things,

¹¹ And ^(A)you shall rejoice before the Lord your God, you and your son and your daughter, your male servant and your female servant, the Levite who is within your towns, the sojourner, the fatherless, and the widow who are among you, at the place that the Lord your God will choose, to make his name dwell there.

⁷ And ^(A)there you shall eat before the Lord your God, and ^(B)you shall rejoice, you and your households, in all that you undertake, in which the Lord your God has blessed you.

⁸ “You shall not do according to all that we are doing here today, ^(C)everyone doing whatever is right in his own eyes, ⁹ for you have not as yet come to ^(D)the rest and to the inheritance that the Lord your God is giving you. ¹⁰ But when ^(E)you go over the Jordan and live in the land that the Lord your God is giving you to inherit, ^(F)and when he gives you rest from all your enemies around, so that you live in safety, ¹¹ then to ^(G)the place that the Lord your God will choose, to make his name dwell there, there you shall bring all that I command you: your burnt offerings and your sacrifices, ^(H)your tithes and the contribution that you present, and all your finest vow offerings that you vow to the Lord. ¹² And ^(I)you shall rejoice before the Lord your God, you and your sons and your daughters, your male servants and your female servants, and the Levite that is within your towns, since ^(J)he has no portion or inheritance with you.

¹⁷ As for the rich in ^(A)this present age, charge them ^(B)not to be haughty, nor ^(C)to set their hopes on ^(D)the uncertainty of riches, but on God, ^(E)who richly provides us with everything to enjoy. ¹⁸ They are to do good, ^(F)to be rich in good works, to be generous and ^(G)ready to share, ¹⁹ thus ^(H)storing up treasure for themselves as a good foundation for the future, so that they may ^(I)take hold of ^(J)that which is truly life.

³⁵ Even in their own kingdom, ^(A)and amid your great goodness that you gave them, and in the large and ^(B)rich land that you set before them, ^(C)they did not serve you or turn from their wicked works. ³⁶ Behold, ^(D)we are slaves this day; in the land that you gave to our fathers to enjoy its fruit and its good gifts, behold, we are slaves. ^37 (E)And its rich yield goes to the kings whom you have set over us because of our sins. They rule over our bodies and over our livestock as they please, and we are in great distress.
