Ang Pulong Sang Dios
Nag-upod si Timoteo kay Pablo kag kay Silas
16 Nagpadayon sila ni Pablo sa paglakat sa Derbe kag sa Lystra. May sumulunod ni Jesus didto sa Lystra nga si Timoteo. Ang iya iloy Judio kag tumuluo man, pero ang iya amay Griego. 2 Suno sa mga tumuluo didto sa Lystra kag sa Iconium, si Timoteo maayo nga tawo. 3 Gusto ni Pablo dal-on si Timoteo, gani gintuli niya siya agod wala sing reklamo ang mga Judio kontra kay Timoteo, kay ang tanan nga Judio nga nagaestar sa amo nga mga lugar nakahibalo nga Griego ang amay ni Timoteo. 4 Pagkatapos nagkadto sila sa mga banwa kag ginsaysay nila sa mga tumuluo ang mga pagsulundan nga ginkasugtan sang mga apostoles kag sang mga manugdumala sang iglesya didto sa Jerusalem. Ang Lalaki nga Taga-Macedonia
6 Dayon nagkadto sila sa mga lugar nga sakop sang Frigia kag Galacia, kay wala sila pagtuguti sang Espiritu Santo nga magwali sang pulong sang Dios didto sa probinsya sang Asia. 7 Pag-abot nila sa dulunan sang Mysia, gusto nila kuntani nga magkadto sa Bitinia, pero ang Espiritu ni Jesus wala nagtugot sa ila. 8 Gani nag-agi na lang sila sa Mysia kag nagdulhog sa Troas. 9 Sadto nga gab-i may ginpakita ang Dios kay Pablo. Nakita niya ang isa ka tawo nga taga-Macedonia nga nagatindog kag nagapakitluoy sa iya. Siling sang tawo, “Tabok ka diri sa Macedonia kag buligi kami.” 10 Gani nanghimos kami dayon sa pagkadto sa Macedonia, tungod nga nabatyagan namon nga ginatawag kami sang Dios sa pagwali sang Maayong Balita sa mga tawo didto.
Nagtuo si Lydia kay Jesus
11 Nagsakay kami sa sakayan halin sa Troas kag nagderetso sa Samotracia, kag sang masunod nga adlaw nag-abot kami didto sa Neapolis. 12 Halin sa Neapolis nagdungka kami sa Filipos nga isa ka siyudad sa nahauna nga distrito sang Macedonia. Madamo sa mga nagaestar didto taga-Roma, pati ang ila mga manugdumala. Nagtiner kami sa Filipos sang pila ka adlaw. 13 Pag-abot sang Adlaw nga Inugpahuway, nagguwa kami sa siyudad kag nagkadto sa higad sang suba tungod nga naghunahuna kami nga may lugar didto nga ginatipunan sang mga Judio agod magpangamuyo. Ginpriso si Pablo kag si Silas sa Filipos
16 Isa ka adlaw, samtang nagapakadto kami sa lugar nga ginatipunan sa pagpangamuyo, ginsugata kami sang isa ka ulipon nga dalagita. Ato nga dalagita ginagamhan sang malaot nga espiritu nga nagahatag sa iya sang abilidad sa pagpakot sang mga matabo sa palaabuton. Paagi sa sining abilidad nakapangwarta sing dako ang iya mga agalon. 17 Karon, ini nga babayi permi lang nagasunod-sunod sa amon ni Pablo, kag amo ini ang iya ginasinggit, “Ini nga mga tawo mga alagad sang Labing Mataas nga Dios! Mga Romanhon kita, gani indi kita makasunod sang ila mga ginatudlo!” 22 Kag nagpuli ang mga tawo didto sa pagsakit sa ila ni Pablo. Pagkatapos ginpabugras sang mga opisyal ang mga bayo ni Pablo kag ni Silas kag ginpahanot sila dayon. 23 Sang natam-an na sila sing hanot, ginsulod nila sila sa prisohan. Ari pa kami tanan!” 29 Nagpakuha sing suga ang guwardya kag nagdali-dali siya sulod didto kag nagluhod sa atubangan nila ni Pablo kag ni Silas nga nagakurog. 30 Dayon, gindala niya sila ni Pablo sa guwa kag nagpamangkot, “Ano ang akon himuon agod maluwas ako?” 31 Nagsabat sila ni Pablo, “Magtuo ka kay Ginoong Jesus kag maluwas ka kag ang imo panimalay.” 32 Dayon gintudlo nila ni Pablo ang pulong sang Ginoo sa iya kag sa tanan nga miyembro sang iya panimalay. 33 Sa sadto gid nga gab-i ginhugasan sang guwardya ang ila mga pilas, kag nagpabautiso siya dayon pati ang bug-os niya nga panimalay. 34 Pagkatapos gindala niya sila ni Pablo sa iya balay kag ginpakaon. Nalipay gid ang guwardya kag ang iya bug-os nga panimalay nga sila nagatuo na sa Dios.
35 Pagkaaga nagsugo ang mga opisyal sa mga pulis nga buy-an na sila ni Pablo. 36 Kag ini ginbalita sang guwardya kay Pablo. Nagsiling siya, “Nagpasugo ang mga opisyal nga buy-an na kamo. Gani magguwa na kamo kag maayo lang nga paglakat.” 37 Pero nagsiling si Pablo sa mga pulis nga ginsugo, “Ginlapas sang mga opisyal ang kasuguan sang Roma tungod nga kami nga mga Romanhon man wala nila anay pag-imbistigara, kundi ginpahanot nila kami sa publiko kag pagkatapos ginsulod nila kami dayon sa prisohan. Pero karon gusto nila nga sa tago lang ang pagpaguwa sa amon? Indi mahimo! Kinahanglan ang mga opisyal mismo amo ang magkadto diri kag sila gid ang magpaguwa sa amon.” 38 Pagsugid sang mga pulis sa mga opisyal sang ginhambal ni Pablo nga sila mga Romanhon, kinulbaan sila. 39 Gani nagkadto ang mga opisyal sa prisohan kag nagpangayo pasensya sa ila ni Pablo. Dayon ginpaguwa nila sila ni Pablo kag ginpangabay nga maghalin na sila sa sadto nga siyudad. 40 Sang nakaguwa na si Pablo kag si Silas sa prisohan, nagkadto sila dayon sa balay ni Lydia. 16 And he came to Derbe and Lystra, and lo, a certain disciple was there, by name Timotheus son of a certain woman, a believing Jewess, but of a father, a Greek,
2 who was well testified to by the brethren in Lystra and Iconium;
3 this one did Paul wish to go forth with him, and having taken [him], he circumcised him, because of the Jews who are in those places, for they all knew his father -- that he was a Greek.
4 And as they were going on through the cities, they were delivering to them the decrees to keep, that have been judged by the apostles and the elders who [are] in Jerusalem,
5 then, indeed, were the assemblies established in the faith, and were abounding in number every day;
6 and having gone through Phrygia and the region of Galatia, having been forbidden by the Holy Spirit to speak the word in Asia,
7 having gone toward Mysia, they were trying to go on toward Bithynia, and the Spirit did not suffer them,
8 and having passed by Mysia, they came down to Troas.
9 And a vision through the night appeared to Paul -- a certain man of Macedonia was standing, calling upon him, and saying, `Having passed through to Macedonia, help us;' --
10 and when he saw the vision, immediately we endeavoured to go forth to Macedonia, assuredly gathering that the Lord hath called us to preach good news to them,
11 having set sail, therefore, from Troas, we came with a straight course to Samothracia, on the morrow also to Neapolis,
12 thence also to Philippi, which is a principal city of the part of Macedonia -- a colony. And we were in this city abiding certain days,
13 on the sabbath-day also we went forth outside of the city, by a river, where there used to be prayer, and having sat down, we were speaking to the women who came together,
14 and a certain woman, by name Lydia, a seller of purple, of the city of Thyatira, worshipping God, was hearing, whose heart the Lord did open to attend to the things spoken by Paul;
15 and when she was baptized, and her household, she did call upon us, saying, `If ye have judged me to be faithful to the Lord, having entered into my house, remain;' and she constrained us.
16 And it came to pass in our going on to prayer, a certain maid, having a spirit of Python, did meet us, who brought much employment to her masters by soothsaying,
17 she having followed Paul and us, was crying, saying, `These men are servants of the Most High God, who declare to us a way of salvation;'
18 and this she was doing for many days, but Paul having been grieved, and having turned, said to the spirit, `I command thee, in the name of Jesus Christ, to come forth from her;' and it came forth the same hour.
19 And her masters having seen that the hope of their employment was gone, having caught Paul and Silas, drew [them] to the market-place, unto the rulers,
20 and having brought them to the magistrates, they said, `These men do exceedingly trouble our city, being Jews;
21 and they proclaim customs that are not lawful for us to receive nor to do, being Romans.'
22 And the multitude rose up together against them, and the magistrates having torn their garments from them, were commanding to beat [them] with rods,
23 many blows also having laid upon them, they cast them to prison, having given charge to the jailor to keep them safely,
24 who such a charge having received, did put them to the inner prison, and their feet made fast in the stocks.
25 And at midnight Paul and Silas praying, were singing hymns to God, and the prisoners were hearing them,
26 and suddenly a great earthquake came, so that the foundations of the prison were shaken, opened also presently were all the doors, and of all -- the bands were loosed;
27 and the jailor having come out of sleep, and having seen the doors of the prison open, having drawn a sword, was about to kill himself, supposing the prisoners to be fled,
28 and Paul cried out with a loud voice, saying, `Thou mayest not do thyself any harm, for we are all here.'
29 And, having asked for a light, he sprang in, and trembling he fell down before Paul and Silas,
30 and having brought them forth, said, `Sirs, what must I do -- that I may be saved?'
31 and they said, `Believe on the Lord Jesus Christ, and thou shalt be saved -- thou and thy house;'
32 and they spake to him the word of the Lord, and to all those in his household;
33 and having taken them, in that hour of the night, he did bathe [them] from the blows, and was baptized, himself and all his presently,
34 having brought them also into his house, he set food before [them], and was glad with all the household, he having believed in God.
35 And day having come, the magistrates sent the rod-bearers, saying, `Let those men go;'
36 and the jailor told these words unto Paul -- `The magistrates have sent, that ye may be let go; now, therefore, having gone forth go on in peace;'
37 and Paul said to them, `Having beaten us publicly uncondemned -- men, Romans being -- they did cast [us] to prison, and now privately do they cast us forth! why no! but having come themselves, let them bring us forth.'
38 And the rod-bearers told to the magistrates these sayings, and they were afraid, having heard that they are Romans,
39 and having come, they besought them, and having brought [them] forth, they were asking [them] to go forth from the city;
40 and they, having gone forth out of the prison, entered into [the house of] Lydia, and having seen the brethren, they comforted them, and went forth.

The Macedonian Call

Lydia Baptized at Philippi
11 Therefore, sailing from Troas, we ran a straight course to Samothrace, and the next day came to Neapolis, 12 and from there to (L)Philippi, which is the [c]foremost city of that part of Macedonia, a colony. And we were staying in that city for some days. 13 And on the Sabbath day we went out of the city to the riverside, where prayer was customarily made; and we sat down and spoke to the women who met there. 14 Now a certain woman named Lydia heard us. Paul and Silas Imprisoned
16 Now it happened, as we went to prayer, that a certain slave girl (P)possessed with a spirit of divination met us, who brought her masters (Q)much profit by fortune-telling. 17 This girl followed Paul and us, and cried out, saying, “These men are the servants of the Most High God, who proclaim to us the way of salvation.” 18 And this she did for many days.
But Paul, (R)greatly [d]annoyed, turned and said to the spirit, “I command you in the name of Jesus Christ to come out of her.” (S)And he came out that very hour. 19 But (T)when her masters saw that their hope of profit was gone, they seized Paul and Silas and (U)dragged them into the marketplace to the authorities.

The Philippian Jailer Saved
25 But at midnight Paul and Silas were praying and singing hymns to God, and the prisoners were listening to them. 26 (X)Suddenly there was a great earthquake, so that the foundations of the prison were shaken; and immediately (Y)all the doors were opened and everyone’s chains were loosed. 27 And the keeper of the prison, awaking from sleep and seeing the prison doors open, supposing the prisoners had fled, drew his sword and was about to kill himself. 28 But Paul called with a loud voice, saying, “Do yourself no harm, for we are all here.”
29 Then he called for a light, ran in, and fell down trembling before Paul and Silas. 30 And he brought them out and said, (Z)“Sirs, what must I do to be saved?”
31 So they said, (AA)“Believe on the Lord Jesus Christ, and you will be saved, you and your household.” 32 Then they spoke the word of the Lord to him and to all who were in his house. 33 And he took them the same hour of the night and washed their stripes. And immediately he and all his family were baptized. 34 Now when he had brought them into his house, (AB)he set food before them; and he rejoiced, having believed in God with all his household.
Paul Refuses to Depart Secretly
35 And when it was day, the magistrates sent the [e]officers, saying, “Let those men go.”
36 So the keeper of the prison reported these words to Paul, saying, “The magistrates have sent to let you go. Now therefore depart, and go in peace.”
37 But Paul said to them, “They have beaten us openly, uncondemned (AC)Romans, and have thrown us into prison. And now do they put us out secretly? No indeed! Let them come themselves and get us out.”
38 And the officers told these words to the magistrates, and they were afraid when they heard that they were Romans. 39 Then they came and pleaded with them and brought them out, and (AD)asked them to depart from the city. 40 So they went out of the prison (AE)and entered the house of Lydia; and when they had seen the brethren, they encouraged them and departed.

Timothy Goes with Paul
16 Paul came to Derbe and Lystra [14:6], where a ·follower [disciple] named Timothy lived. Timothy’s mother was Jewish [C her name was Eunice (2 Tim. 1:5; 3:15)] and a believer, but his father was a Greek.
2 The ·believers [L brothers (and sisters)] in Lystra and Iconium [13:51] ·respected Timothy and ·said good things about [spoke well of; L testified about] him. 3 Paul wanted Timothy to travel with him, but all the people living in that area knew that Timothy’s father was Greek. So Paul circumcised Timothy ·to please his mother’s people [L because of the Jews in those places]. 4 ·Paul and those with him [L They] traveled from town to town and ·gave [delivered; passed on] the ·decisions [decrees] made by the apostles and elders in Jerusalem for the people to obey. 5 So the churches became stronger in the faith and grew larger every day.
Paul Is Called to Macedonia
6 ·Paul and those with him [L They] went through the areas of Phrygia [C a region in north central Asia Minor; 18:23] and Galatia [C either the Roman province of Galatia or the old kingdom of Galatia in its north] since the Holy Spirit ·did not let them [prohibited them to; C either through circumstances or divine revelation] ·preach the Good News [L speak the word] in Asia [C a Roman province, in present-day Turkey]. 7 When they came ·near [or opposite] the country of Mysia [C the northwest section of Asia Minor, present-day Turkey], they tried to go into Bithynia [C northern Asia Minor further east than Mysia], but the Spirit of Jesus did not let them. 8 So they passed by Mysia and went to Troas [C a city in northwest Asia Minor]. 9 That night Paul saw in a vision a man from Macedonia [C an area across the Aegean Sea in mainland Greece]. Lydia Becomes a Christian
11 We ·left [embarked/put out to sea from] Troas and sailed straight to the island of Samothrace [C a mountainous island in the north Aegean]. The next day we sailed to Neapolis [C city in Macedonia, the first city Paul visited on the continent of Europe]. 12 Then we went by land to Philippi, a Roman colony [C a town begun by Romans with Roman laws, customs, and privileges] and ·the leading city in that part [or one of the leading cities in that district; or a city in the first district] of Macedonia. We stayed there for several days.
13 On the Sabbath day we went outside the city gate to the river where we ·thought [expected] we would find a special place for prayer [C Philippi evidently had no synagogue because of its small Jewish population]. Some women had gathered there, so we sat down and talked with them. 14 One of the listeners was a woman named Lydia from the city of Thyatira [C in western Asia Minor] ·whose job was selling [who was a dealer/merchant in] purple cloth [C the most expensive type of material]. She was a worshiper of God [C a God-fearing Gentile; 10:2], and the Lord opened her ·mind [L heart] to pay attention to what Paul was saying. 15 She and ·all the people in her house [her household] were baptized. Then she ·invited us to her home [L urged us], saying, “If you ·think I am truly [L have judged me to be] ·a believer in [or faithful to] the Lord, then come stay in my house.” And she ·persuaded us [urged us strongly] to stay with her.
Paul and Silas in Jail
16 Once, while we were going to the place for prayer, a ·servant [slave] girl met us. She had a ·special spirit [spirit/demon of divination/prediction; L Python spirit; C Python was the serpent god that guarded the Delphic oracle; the term came to be used of the ability to predict the future] in her, and she earned a lot of money for her owners by telling fortunes. 17 This girl followed Paul and us, shouting, “These men are ·servants [slaves] of the Most High God. They are telling you ·how you can be saved [L the way/path of salvation].”
18 She kept this up for many days. This ·bothered [annoyed; exasperated] Paul, so he turned and said to the spirit, “By the ·power [L name] of Jesus Christ, I command you to come out of her!” ·Immediately, [L That very hour] the spirit came out.
19 When the owners of the ·servant [slave] girl saw that their ·source for making money [hope of profit] was gone, they grabbed Paul and Silas and dragged them before the ·city rulers [leaders; authorities] in the marketplace. 20 They brought Paul and Silas to the ·Roman rulers [magistrates] and said, “These men are Jews and are ·making trouble in [disturbing] our city. 21 They are ·teaching things [advocating customs] that are not ·right [permitted; lawful] for us as Romans to [L adopt/accept or to] do.”
22 The crowd joined the attack against them. The ·Roman officers [magistrates] ·tore [stripped off] the clothes of Paul and Silas and ·had [ordered] them beaten with rods [2 Cor. 11:25]. 23 After ·being severely beaten [L many blows were laid on them], ·Paul and Silas [L they] were thrown into ·jail [prison], and the jailer was ordered to guard them ·carefully [securely]. 24 When he heard this order, he put them far inside the ·jail [prison] and ·pinned [secured; fastened] their feet ·down between large blocks of wood [in stocks; L in wood].

Then all the doors of the ·jail [prison] broke open, and all the prisoners were freed from their chains. 27 The jailer woke up and saw that the ·jail [prison] doors were open. Thinking that the prisoners had already escaped, he got his sword and was about to kill himself [C being responsible, he would suffer punishment and shame for their escape]. 28 But [L with a great/loud voice] Paul shouted, “Don’t hurt yourself! We are all here.”
29 The jailer ·told someone to bring a light [L asked for lights]. Then he ·ran [rushed] inside and, shaking with fear, fell down before Paul and Silas. 30 He brought them outside and said, “·Men [L Lords; Sirs], what must I do to be saved?”
31 They said to him, “Believe in the Lord Jesus and you will be saved—you and ·all the people in your house [your household].” 32 So ·Paul and Silas [L they] told the ·message [word] of the Lord to the jailer and all the people in his ·house [household]. 33 At that hour of the night the jailer took Paul and Silas and washed their wounds. Then he and all his ·people [or family; household] were baptized immediately. 34 After this the jailer took Paul and Silas home and gave them food. He and his ·family [L household] ·were very happy [rejoiced; celebrated] because they now believed in God.
35 The next morning, the ·Roman officers [magistrates] sent the police to tell the jailer, “Let these men go free.”
36 The jailer ·said [L reported these words] to Paul, “The ·officers [magistrates] have sent an order to let you go free. You can leave now. Go in peace.”
37 But Paul said to ·the police [L them], “They beat us in public ·without a trial [L uncondemned], even though we are Roman citizens [C Roman law stated that citizens could not be beaten without a trial]. And they threw us in ·jail [prison]. Now they want to ·make us go away [get rid of us; throw us out] ·quietly [in secret]. No! Let them come themselves and bring us out.”
38 The police ·told [reported to] the ·Roman officers [magistrates] what Paul said. When ·the officers [L they] heard that ·Paul and Silas [L they] were Roman citizens, they were afraid. 39 So they came and ·told Paul and Silas they were sorry [apologized to them; appeased them] and took them out of ·jail [prison] and asked them to leave the city. 40 So when they came out of the ·jail [prison], they went to Lydia’s house where they saw some of the ·believers [L brothers (and sisters)] and encouraged them. Then they left.
