El mensaje a Sardis

3 Escribe al ángel de la iglesia en Sardis: El que tiene los siete espíritus de Dios, y las siete estrellas, dice esto:

Yo conozco tus obras, que tienes nombre de que vives, y estás muerto. ²Sé vigilante, y afirma las otras cosas que están para morir; porque no he hallado tus obras perfectas delante de Dios. ³Acuérdate, pues, de lo que has recibido y oído; y guárdalo, y arrepiéntete. Pues si no velas, vendré sobre ti como ladrón, y no sabrás a qué hora vendré sobre ti.^(A) ⁴Pero tienes unas pocas personas en Sardis que no han manchado sus vestiduras; y andarán conmigo en vestiduras blancas, porque son dignas. ⁵El que venciere será vestido de vestiduras blancas; y no borraré su nombre del libro de la vida,^(B) y confesaré su nombre delante de mi Padre, y delante de sus ángeles.^(C) ⁶El que tiene oído, oiga lo que el Espíritu dice a las iglesias.

El mensaje a Filadelfia

⁷Escribe al ángel de la iglesia en Filadelfia: Esto dice el Santo, el Verdadero, el que tiene la llave de David, el que abre y ninguno cierra, y cierra y ninguno abre:^(D)

⁸Yo conozco tus obras; he aquí, he puesto delante de ti una puerta abierta, la cual nadie puede cerrar; porque aunque tienes poca fuerza, has guardado mi palabra, y no has negado mi nombre. ⁹He aquí, yo entrego de la sinagoga de Satanás a los que se dicen ser judíos y no lo son, sino que mienten; he aquí, yo haré que vengan y se postren a tus pies,^(E) y reconozcan que yo te he amado. ¹⁰Por cuanto has guardado la palabra de mi paciencia, yo también te guardaré de la hora de la prueba que ha de venir sobre el mundo entero, para probar a los que moran sobre la tierra. ¹¹He aquí, yo vengo pronto; retén lo que tienes, para que ninguno tome tu corona. ¹²Al que venciere, yo lo haré columna en el templo de mi Dios, y nunca más saldrá de allí; y escribiré sobre él el nombre de mi Dios, y el nombre de la ciudad de mi Dios, la nueva Jerusalén, la cual desciende del cielo,^(F) de mi Dios, y mi nombre nuevo. ¹³El que tiene oído, oiga lo que el Espíritu dice a las iglesias.

El mensaje a Laodicea

¹⁴Y escribe al ángel de la iglesia en Laodicea: He aquí el Amén, el testigo fiel y verdadero, el principio de la creación de Dios,^(G) dice esto:

¹⁵Yo conozco tus obras, que ni eres frío ni caliente. ¡Ojalá fueses frío o caliente! ¹⁶Pero por cuanto eres tibio, y no frío ni caliente, te vomitaré de mi boca. ¹⁷Porque tú dices: Yo soy rico, y me he enriquecido, y de ninguna cosa tengo necesidad; y no sabes que tú eres un desventurado, miserable, pobre, ciego y desnudo. ¹⁸Por tanto, yo te aconsejo que de mí compres oro refinado en fuego, para que seas rico, y vestiduras blancas para vestirte, y que no se descubra la vergüenza de tu desnudez; y unge tus ojos con colirio, para que veas. ¹⁹Yo reprendo y castigo a todos los que amo;^(H) sé, pues, celoso, y arrepiéntete. ²⁰He aquí, yo estoy a la puerta y llamo; si alguno oye mi voz y abre la puerta, entraré a él, y cenaré con él, y él conmigo. ²¹Al que venciere, le daré que se siente conmigo en mi trono, así como yo he vencido, y me he sentado con mi Padre en su trono. ²²El que tiene oído, oiga lo que el Espíritu dice a las iglesias.

To the Church in Sardis

3 “And to the angel of the church in Sardis write: ‘The words of him ^(A)who has the seven spirits of God and the seven stars.

“‘I know your works. You have the reputation ^(B)of being alive, ^(C)but you are dead. ²Wake up, and strengthen what remains and is about to die, for I have not found your works ^(D)complete in the sight of my God. ³^(E)Remember, then, what you received and heard. Keep it, and repent. If you will not wake up, ^(F)I will come ^(G)like a thief, and you will not know at what hour I will come against you. ⁴Yet you have still a few names in Sardis, people who have not ^(H)soiled their garments, and they will walk with me ^(I)in white, for they are ^(J)worthy. ⁵^(K)The one who conquers will be clothed thus in white garments, and I will never ^(L)blot his name out of ^(M)the book of life. ^(N)I will confess his name before my Father and before his angels. ⁶^(O)He who has an ear, let him hear what the Spirit says to the churches.’

To the Church in Philadelphia

⁷“And to the angel of the church in Philadelphia write: ‘The words of ^(P)the holy one, ^(Q)the true one, ^(R)who has the key of David, ^(S)who opens and no one will shut, who shuts and no one opens.

⁸“‘I know your works. Behold, I have set before you ^(T)an open door, which no one is able to shut. I know that you have but little power, and yet you have kept my word and have not denied my name. ⁹Behold, I will make those of ^(U)the synagogue of Satan who say that they are Jews and are not, but lie—behold, ^(V)I will make them come and bow down before your feet, and they will learn that ^(W)I have loved you. ¹⁰^(X)Because you have kept my word about patient endurance, I will keep you from the hour of trial that is coming on the whole world, to try ^(Y)those who dwell on the earth. ¹¹^(Z)I am coming soon. ^(AA)Hold fast what you have, so that no one may seize ^(AB)your crown. ¹²^(AC)The one who conquers, I will make him ^(AD)a pillar in the temple of my God. Never shall he go out of it, and I will write on him ^(AE)the name of my God, and ^(AF)the name of the city of my God, ^(AG)the new Jerusalem, ^(AH)which comes down from my God out of heaven, and my own ^(AI)new name. ¹³^(AJ)He who has an ear, let him hear what the Spirit says to the churches.’

¹⁵“‘I know your works: you are neither cold nor hot. ^(AN)Would that you were either cold or hot! ¹⁶So, because you are lukewarm, and neither hot nor cold, I will spit you out of my mouth. ¹⁷^(AO)For you say, “I am rich, I have prospered, and I need nothing,” not realizing that you are wretched, pitiable, poor, ^(AP)blind, and naked. ¹⁸I counsel you ^(AQ)to buy from me gold refined by fire, so that you may be rich, and ^(AR)white garments so that you may clothe yourself and ^(AS)the shame of your nakedness may not be seen, and salve to anoint your eyes, ^(AT)so that you may see. ¹⁹^(AU)Those whom I love, I reprove and discipline, so be zealous and repent. ²⁰Behold, I stand at the door and ^(AV)knock. ^(AW)If anyone hears my voice and opens the door, ^(AX)I will come in to him and eat with him, and he with me. ²¹^(AY)The one who conquers, ^(AZ)I will grant him to sit with me on my throne, as ^(BA)I also conquered and sat down with my Father on his throne. ²²^(BB)He who has an ear, let him hear what the Spirit says to the churches.’”

‘These things says He who ^(A)has the seven Spirits of God and the seven stars: “I know your works, that you have a name that you are alive, but you are dead. ²Be watchful, and strengthen the things which remain, that are ready to die, for I have not found your works perfect before ^[b]God. ³^(B)Remember therefore how you have received and heard; hold fast and ^(C)repent. ^(D)Therefore if you will not watch, I will come upon you ^(E)as a thief, and you will not know what hour I will come upon you. ⁴^[c]You have ^(F)a few names ^[d]even in Sardis who have not ^(G)defiled their garments; and they shall walk with Me ^(H)in white, for they are worthy. ⁵He who overcomes ^(I)shall be clothed in white garments, and I will not ^(J)blot out his name from the ^(K)Book of Life; but ^(L)I will confess his name before My Father and before His angels.

The Faithful Church

⁷“And to the ^[e]angel of the church in Philadelphia write,

‘These things says ^(N)He who is holy, ^(O)He who is true, ^(P)“He who has the key of David, ^(Q)He who opens and no one shuts, and ^(R)shuts and no one opens”: ⁸^(S)“I know your works. See, I have set before you ^(T)an open door, ^[f]and no one can shut it; for you have a little strength, have kept My word, and have not denied My name. ⁹Indeed I will make ^(U)those of the synagogue of Satan, who say they are Jews and are not, but lie—indeed ^(V)I will make them come and worship before your feet, and to know that I have loved you. ¹⁰Because you have kept ^[g]My command to persevere, ^(W)I also will keep you from the hour of trial which shall come upon ^(X)the whole world, to test those who dwell ^(Y)on the earth. ¹¹^[h]Behold, ^(Z)I am coming quickly! ^(AA)Hold fast what you have, that no one may take ^(AB)your crown. ¹²He who overcomes, I will make him ^(AC)a pillar in the temple of My God, and he shall ^(AD)go out no more. ^(AE)I will write on him the name of My God and the name of the city of My God, the ^(AF)New Jerusalem, which ^(AG)comes down out of heaven from My God. ^(AH)And I will write on him My new name.

¹⁴“And to the ^[i]angel of the church ^[j]of the Laodiceans write,

^(AJ)‘These things says the Amen, ^(AK)the Faithful and True Witness, ^(AL)the Beginning of the creation of God: ¹⁵^(AM)“I know your works, that you are neither cold nor hot. I could wish you were cold or hot. ¹⁶So then, because you are lukewarm, and neither ^[k]cold nor hot, I will vomit you out of My mouth. ¹⁷Because you say, ^(AN)‘I am rich, have become wealthy, and have need of nothing’—and do not know that you are wretched, miserable, poor, blind, and naked— ¹⁸I counsel you ^(AO)to buy from Me gold refined in the fire, that you may be rich; and ^(AP)white garments, that you may be clothed, that the shame of your nakedness may not be revealed; and anoint your eyes with eye salve, that you may see. ¹⁹^(AQ)As many as I love, I rebuke and ^(AR)chasten.^[l] Therefore be ^[m]zealous and repent. ²⁰Behold, ^(AS)I stand at the door and knock. ^(AT)If anyone hears My voice and opens the door, ^(AU)I will come in to him and dine with him, and he with Me. ²¹To him who overcomes ^(AV)I will grant to sit with Me on My throne, as I also overcame and sat down with My Father on His throne.

3 “To the angel^[a] of the church in Sardis^(A) write:

These are the words of him who holds the seven spirits^[b]^(B) of God and the seven stars.^(C) I know your deeds;^(D) you have a reputation of being alive, but you are dead.^(E) ²Wake up! Strengthen what remains and is about to die, for I have found your deeds unfinished in the sight of my God. ³Remember, therefore, what you have received and heard; hold it fast, and repent.^(F) But if you do not wake up, I will come like a thief,^(G) and you will not know at what time^(H) I will come to you.

⁴Yet you have a few people in Sardis who have not soiled their clothes.^(I) They will walk with me, dressed in white,^(J) for they are worthy. ⁵The one who is victorious^(K) will, like them, be dressed in white.^(L) I will never blot out the name of that person from the book of life,^(M) but will acknowledge that name before my Father^(N) and his angels. ⁶Whoever has ears, let them hear^(O) what the Spirit says to the churches.

¹⁹Those whom I love I rebuke and discipline.^(AX) So be earnest and repent.^(AY) ²⁰Here I am! I stand at the door^(AZ) and knock. If anyone hears my voice and opens the door,^(BA) I will come in^(BB) and eat with that person, and they with me.
